- Passage To India Part 5 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - My father continues the story
They started getting very abusive and tried to force us to put the machine back as before which of course was impossible, and we had our work cut out to prevent them trying to turn it back again themselves. Our own tempers by now were not too good, but we felt they must be kept at all costs, as after all, the odds of three men, two of them with guns, and all with knives, against us two with nothing but a spanner between us were a bit too much of a goo ... - Passage To India Part 6 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - My father continued the story:
During Saturday afternoon and while we were sittig in the cockpit trying to get a little sleep, an argument arose which eventually we were drawn into as apparently we were the bone of contention. It seemed that a headsman and his relations from another village had arrived and announced that as the ground that we had landed on was his, it so followed that we too were his property, and that in future he and his village would do the guarding of us.

- Passage To India Part 4 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - My Father continued the story:
At first we thought he was merely asking for money, but by degrees, mostly by signs, we gathered that there were bandits, bad men or robbers in the hills around who would come down during the night and cut off our ears and hands (most graphic and realistic signs for all this) if they didn't stay and guard us all night with their guns, and of course we would pay them at the same time.
Our dilemma was to decide how much of this was truth ... Tags: kleeneze, work at home, home business, work from home, work from home jobs, legitimate work from home, part time work from home, work from home opportunities
- Passage To India Part 7 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - My father continued the story: Towards evening several of the ruffians offered themselves as our guards for the night, but we didn't like the look of any of them much - the only one we fancied at all was a small man who had fetched us the milk and water. He seemed cleaner than the rest and not so aggressive in manner and speech, though he like the rest could never stop spitting which got on my nerves more than anything.
However, we chose him and he took our £2 and we spent ... Tags: kleeneze, work at home, home business, work from home, work from home jobs, legitimate work from home, part time work from home, work from home opportunities
- Passage To India Part 3 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - This is the third part of my father's flight to India with Lady Blanche...... My father continued the story as follows:
However, the crowd allowed us no peace and we were for ever jumping up and shooing them away from the machine which seemed to have an irresistible attraction to their hands, their continual touching, pinching and picking at it being our worst trouble with them all the nine days we were forced to stay there.
However, to get back to this, our first day i ... Tags: kleeneze, work at home, home business, work from home, work from home jobs, legitimate work from home, part time work from home, work from home opportunities
- Passage To India Part 2 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - This was Lady Blanche's first real forced landing and told my father, who she called Oggie, that she had such confidence in his ability to bring them safely down in emergency, that she never had a moment's anxiety.
Directly they had landed, my father said they set about looking for the cause of the trouble and putting it right. Having found it was a small pipe connecting the oil to the pressure gauge, he mended it, and it was not till this was done that they looked round and reali ... - Passage To India Part 8 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - My father continued his story
On this Tuesday afternoon our audience became rather excited and started to gaze at a group of newcomers approaching some miles away over the plain. All the people in these parts carried small telescopes in little leather cases slung over their shoulders.
These were trained on the newcomers, and getting more and more excited and with many signs and gesticulations we were given to understand that it was a bad-man bandit who was arriving. ... - Passage To India Part 1 - My Father's Flight To India In 1934
By: Michael Ogden | - In 1934, my father's commission in the RAF ended, and he joined the Bristol & Wessex Flying Club at Whitchurch as an instructor having been a flying instructor in the RAF. His first pupil was Lady Blanche Douglas, the sister of the Duke of Beaufort and the widow of the late George Scott-Douglas. She wanted to learn to fly so she could fly to India in a new Miles Hawk Major she was in the process of buying and wanted my father, Micky, to be her co-pilot.

- Road Safety In Jamaica -is It Working Part 2
By: Michael Ogden | - We spent two weeks in Jamaica in January 2004 . We had thought we might hire a car to do some sightseeing. After the drive from the airport we changed our minds. We are, perhaps, critical passengers (what IAM member isn't?) but we are not normally nervous. By the time we arrived at our hotel after a 90 minute drive with what appeared to be a suicidal driver we were somewhat tense. Why?
The road surfaces in Jamaica have to be seen to be believed. There are more pot holes ... Tags: kleeneze, work at home, home business, work from home, work from home jobs, legitimate work from home, part time work from home, work from home opportunities

- How I Became Mondeo Man!
By: Michael Ogden | - Some years we wrote an article about our dilemma in choosing a new (to us) car. After visiting lots of showrooms and test driving a couple of cars we ended up with a nine month old Peugeot 406 estate with 9000 miles on the clock. It did us very well, doing sterling service towing the caravan, long journeys to the south of France, acted as a load carrier to the tip (sorry, Household Waste Disposal Site or Dechetterie in France), and as delivery van for our business amongst its other roles.< ... - Road Safety In Jamaica -is It Working?
By: Michael Ogden | - With my wife Alison, a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, I often try to write an article for their local magazine about standards of driving in countries we visit. So, we arranged in the past a number of trips to Kingston and elsewhere with Frances, a local taxi driver. I had noticed on the trip from the airport signs exhorting drivers to carry out simple actions to promote their road safety and that of others. I had also noticed that some drivers were reckless. I had my digital cam ... Tags: kleeneze, work at home, home business, work from home, work from home jobs, legitimate work from home, part time work from home, work from home opportunities

- Here Be Dragons
By: Michael Ogden | - Long ago, uncharted territory on maps would bear the legend 'here be dragons'. When I accompanied my mother on a trip to Suffolk back in the early summer I felt I was going into uncharted territory.
Actually, I have been to Suffolk quite recently but only for brief weekend visits for specific purposes. On this occasion, however, we went as tourists to see the sights.

By: Michael Ogden | - We had decided to try the Caribbean as a January destination as it is always warm the whole year, the people speak English, the country is stable economically and otherwise, and it offered scuba diving. We tried destinations closer to home such as Eilat, Hurghada, Lanzarote and Tenerife. I was coming to scuba dive whilst Alison was coming to do some sunbathing at the pool. - My Most Memorable Cars -1968 To 1995
By: Michael Ogden | - My first car was a Mini, which despite it's size was terrific for large people like me. It was passed on to me by my mother in 1968 after she retired from being a Health Visitor. I had it until 1970 when I was sent overseas to work.
On my first overseas assignment in Oman (1970-71), I drove a LWB Mark1 Landrover and it's successor the Mark 2, both of which had plenty of headroom. It was terrific on gravel roads at 60mph. The downside was that it was in the workshop a lot.
