Ferdinand developed the Porsche Type 12 for Zundapp. He preferred the flat-four engine and selected a swing axle rear suspension that was invented by Edmund Rumpler. Zundapp insisted on having a water-cooled five-cylinder radial engine. In 1932, three prototypes were introduced and all these cars were lost during the Second World War, the last in a bombing raid in Stuttgart in 1945.
