  • For Upmarket Party Venues Sydney Residents Are Spoilt For Choice
By: nicsans | - The first thing to consider when arranging what you hope will be a great event, never to be forgotten by all those who attend, is exactly who it is that you would like to be there. The guest list is the foundation of any good party and could even prove to be more important than the next item on any good planners list, the venue. To a large extent, the best place to book will depend on the people that you have invited and both these factors will be influenced by what type of event it is that y ...

  • Translated: The Secret Language Of The Federal Reserve
By: JMcBrennan | - It is not what they say, but how they say it. We've translated the latest musings from the Federal Reserve.

When I was in my early 20s, I worked in the Far East. Part of my job was to take Japanese business material and write it in a way to make it be more palatable to English speakers.

My title was that of translator. As inflated as that description is, what I really did was learn how to convey meaning without ever using the English language in a precise way.

  • Guess Who Is Manipulating The Markets
By: Jlevy | - When we think of market manipulators, names like Bernie Madoff and Mike Milken come to mind. Or perhaps it's Michael Douglas' character Gordon Gekko from the 1987 classic Wall Street.

These guys profited from exploiting investors, causing major losses in the process.

All three of these men went to jail for their crimes, even the fictional Gordon Gekko. But there is blatant market manipulation taking place right now that is sure to go unpunished. The worst part is that i ...

  • Mr. Market Wakes Up To The Jobs And Wages Problem
By: J. Litle | - The credit downgrade and debt ceiling aftermath highlight a much more serious problem -- a jobs and wages problem -- that Mr. Market is finally waking up to.

It's been a violent week on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the United Kingdom, rioters are looting shops and causing mayhem seemingly at random. The worst is in London, but has since spread to five major UK cities. Two Croydon women, who had been drinking all night, told a BBC reporter it was about showing police a ...

  • Is Tim Geithner Now Eating His Words U.s. Won't Be Downgraded?
By: JMcBrennan | - Over the past year we've spent a great deal of time pointing out the lies, called "revisions," from President Obama and our Fed Chief, Big Ben Bernanke. We take no joy in calling your attention to the massive deficit of action from these two.

But when you're right... you're right. In the past two weeks alone:

We've shown you that real unemployment numbers are in excess of 20%.

  • Europe Needs To Print Money To Save The Euro Currency
By: J. Litle | - The eurozone is rapidly running out of choices. If the currency is to be saved, Europe will need a single fiscal authority and a willingness to print money.

With each passing day, markets seem to get wilder and woollier.

This is only natural after a long, calm stretch. Volatility expands and contracts like an accordion. Mildness begets wildness and so on.

The sharp declines are also a function of harsh reality asserting itself. As we have said many times in ...

  • One Easy Way To Protect Your Money
By: JMcBrennan | - Our economy and our money have reached a turning point. The only sure way to survive unscathed is to seek shelter.

When I wrote about the economic disaster, I cited the government's own numbers to support the case we are already in a depression worse than the great one.

I don't write that to scare you.

My single purpose is to alert you to the real conditions in which we must operate. I am quite optimistic that you'll be able to profit in the times ahead.

  • Why Now Is The Time To Invest In Silver
By: Sara Nunnally | - A lot of my friends are having kids right now. Over the weekend, we had some friends over for dinner. One of them brought his eight-year-old daughter. She loves animals, and was great with all our dogs and horses, but we ended the night exhausted! • President Obama Claims 80% Of Americans Want Higher Taxes
By: J. Litle | - As the debt ceiling debate heats up, President Obama claims most Americans are OK with higher taxes. Are you?

As the U.S. debt ceiling deadline moves closer, the bond market takes it in stride. The 10-year U.S. Treasury note trades within spitting distance of eight-month highs.

Investors seem confident a deal will get done, if only because the consequences for a miss would be so dire. Republicans and Democrats are playing a fierce game of "chicken" -- driving their cars ...

By: Sara Nunnally | - The U.S. is in a very scary position right now... We have a real chance of defaulting on our debt. The government is still arguing over what to do about the debt ceiling, and if they can't find a solution we're looking at an economic meltdown.

  • Washington Purposely Destroys Jobs
By: J. Litle | - How will the never-ending eurozone crisis finally end? All roads lead to the printing press...

On Monday we said, "watch the bond market." The action in U.S. Treasury bonds makes for a good risk barometer. If bond prices rise and yields fall, that means "risk off" is back on the menu.

As you can see from the chart, that is what happened this week. The yield on the 10-year note has fallen back below 3%. (When yields are falling, bond prices are rising.)

  • Washington Purposely Destroys Jobs
By: JMcBrennan | - An unemployment rate of 9.2% surprised no one. We've seen it coming for centuries.

I have saved millions of jobs over the past two years. Of the total population employed, nearly half would not have work had I not continued to spend, save and invest.

It sounds nutty, but is my boast any more fanciful than our government saying it saved millions of jobs over the past three years because of economic stimulus?

By: J. Litle | - With the U.S. recovery again in doubt, it's more important than ever to watch the bond market here.

    Via The Wall Street Journal:

The U.S. economy barely added jobs for the second month in a row in June and the unemployment rate rose to the highest level this year, dashing hopes the economic recovery is getting back on track and putting pressure on policymakers to react.

  • Why You Shouldn't Invest Like Warren Buffett
By: Zach Scheidt | - Buy and Hold Investing Is Dead

In my previous position as a hedge fund manager, I had one particular client that I will always remember fondly. George was a retired oil driller who had been lucky enough to make some great energy investments, and smart enough to take some profits off the table.

George had a few million dollars invested in one of our funds, and a large position in a single drilling company that he had fallen in love with. What I really liked (most of the ...

We bought our slice of paradise (8.3 acres with a farmhouse, barn and other buildings on a dead-end road) last Thanksgiving, so I have an interest in how well our new home is holding its value.
