Blackberry Playbook Is Getting High Achievements By: XC | - The BlackBerry PlayBook debuted behind some heavy hitters in the tablet world. It was not expected to do very well because the world had already been given great options. However, it has been disappointing its naysayers from day one.
This small light tablet is a force to be reckoned with. At just 0.4 inches thick, 0.9 pounds, and the all black rubberized plastic, it is not really much to take notice of; however, this gadget has been made to be the best in the professional world. ... Server Virtualization - Not Living Up To The Hype? By: Larissa Fair | - A recent article in InfoWorld on underreported tech stories of the year listed server virtualization not living up to the hype as the number two story. Rightfully so! According to the article, overall utilization is still at 18 percent - and utilization of x86 servers is one-third lower at 12 percent. Why? Server virtualization has stalled, and largely in part due to the economy. While virtualization was reaching all-time highs from 2008-2010, some budget constraints forced companies to not use ... Virtualization And Cloud Computing: A Perfect Pair By: Larissa Fair | - We saw back in our government FOSE survey that cloud computing is set to follow a similar path as virtualization has over the past couple years. Both virtualization and cloud computing saw a dramatic increase in planned tools from 2009 to 2010, with a 15% jump for virtualization management and a whopping 20% jump for the cloud. We've known since 2008 that virtualization and cloud computing were the next wave of technological changes for IT operations. The latest Gartner CIO survey lists Virtuali ... Federal Government And Cloud Computing Reach For The Skies By: Larissa Fair | - One cannot read an article in a trade publication or mainstream technology news these days without coming across cloud computing. The promise of the cloud has saturated the market.
We saw in our FOSE survey that the federal government has heard the cloud computing call. Our numbers showed that 58% have seen the light, (that is, the importance of cloud computing), and 32% are planning to implement the cloud this year (a 20% increase from 2009).
Fose Survey Indicates Cloud Computing And Virtualization Top Initiatives By: Larissa Fair | - The votes are in and the results have been counted. Our fourth annual survey at this year's FOSE reveals that federal IT workers are gearing up for building cloud computing solutions. We had lots of great feedback from participants this year, including a visit from (self-proclaimed) Vivek Kundra's biggest fan. He went on and on about how Vivek was not only a forward focused technology guru, but also in general a very cool guy. We definitely can't argue with that, since Vivek has made the federa ... 2010 The Year Of The Service Provider By: Julia Lim | - Finally - the post I promised Valerie I would do 2 months ago when we first used the phrase '2010: The Year of the Service Provider'. She has kindly refrained from getting on my case about this - she's just that nice - but now that we're right around the corner from FOSE where we going to do a 'sneak peek' of the EM7 Integration Server, it's definitely time.
If you've read the posts I write from the Gartner shows, you might notice the increasing frustration I had with their lack of ... Tags:cloud computing monitoring
Interop Wrap-up And On To Cisco Live! By: David Link | - This is my first opportunity since the show to just sit down and get a post out about Interop in general with some hopefully funny (to you) stories.
The boys will do a wrap-up of InteropNet - with status on what EM7 monitored on the show network. They did a great job. As usual, if you didn't hear about a big outage, you know they got the job done. Our own Alejandro won an iPod Shuffle during the Exhibitor Dance-Off but was too naturally shy to go all the way and rip his shirt off ... Fose 2009 Survey - Part Ii - Can't See The Clouds By: David Link | - Well, all the results are in and tabulated, and we finally have some breathing room amidst all the other announcements going on over here (when it rains, it pours) to look at the survey results and what it all means.
This is our third year doing the survey of Government IT at the FOSE show, so we are able to show some trends. Over time, we've switched some topics in and out of the list, but we have always asked two main questions: Which technologies and projects are most important ... Fose 2009 - Transforming Government Technology With Cloud Computing By: David Link | - FOSE definitely saved one of the most interesting sessions for last - I sat in on a panel discussion today on cloud computing, which provided some interesting industry and agency insight on clouds and how they should be used within the federal government.
"Transforming Government Technology with Cloud Computing" was moderated by Dan Mintz, former CIO for the US Department of Transportation, and featured three panelists with a great deal of cloud computing and general IT experienc ... Tags:FOSE, government information technology, IT,
Fose 2009 Keynote - Vivek Kundra And Louis Freeh By: David Link | - Today is the last day of FOSE and things were kicked off with the morning keynote. Louis Freeh, former director of the FBI, was originally scheduled to do the keynote, but it only made sense to add on Vivek Kundra, newly appointed federal government CIO to speak to the mainly federal workers and vendors crowd. The space was packed - 9am, after all, is mid-morning in the federal day - and there was an air of anticipation and excitement that was heightened as Kundra took the stage directly after F ... Fose 2009 - The Virtual Reality: Securely Embracing Virtualization By: David Link | - It's become common knowledge that virtualization has plenty of benefits but plenty of drawbacks as well. Virtual machines can contribute to the "greening" of data centers and lower costs on space, power, cooling and provisioning. As virtualization adoption begins to pick up at the agency level, all potential security risks must be scrutinized to ensure the required level of security.
