How Do Radio Controlled Models Work? By: Roy Green There are numerous versions of radio controlled vehicles on the market. Many of them are marketed as toys but some are aimed directly at their most appreciative audience – the middle aged man! These men like to relive their youth by playing with them and are able to spend much more money on the most impressive, lifelike and feature packed versions. However, whether you buy a budget or a top of the range model, you can be sure that the basic principles of the way in which they... Tags: RC cars, boats, planes, helicopters, radio control
Ham Radio By: Harry Klestner Amateur radio (also called ham radio) is a hobby enjoyed by about 3 million people throughout the world and over 600,000 in the USA alone. It is about communications and the multiple ways of communicating through radio waves.
What most people do not know about this hobby and the people that are operators is that they are one of the most used groups as means of emergency communication, when other conventional means of communications fail, in a disaster situation for example... Tags: ham radio, disaster relief
Satellite Radio: Why it is a Great Option For You By: Tymon Hytem In the past decade, technology in the field of music and radio has changed tremendously. Now a days, you are able to hear you favorite music and shows with much less difficulty. In the past, it used to be extremely frustrating to be able to hear your favorite programming while traveling or in certain areas because as soon as you would find what you wanted to listen to, you would have to constantly adjust the tuner to get it to stay in tune. Or even worse, you loose it completely because the radio signal for that station only goes so far and you have driven past that 40 mile radius that would allow you to listen to your program. What the Communications World does not want you to Know: The Advantages of Satellite Radio Communication By: Tymon Hytem Satellite radio communication offers a distinct advantage over conventional communication for long distance service. Satellite links are unaffected by the propagation abnormalities that interfere with high frequency radio, are free from high attenuation of wire or cable facilities and are capable of spanning long distances without the numerous repeater stations required line of sight or troposphere scatter links. Satellite communication can furnish the greater reliability and flexibility of services needed to support worldwide communication systems. Tags: XM Radio, Satellite Radio
The Properties of Radio Waves: The Simple Definition. By: Tymon Hytem There are few properties of radio waves which make it distinct and usable. The first consideration is frequency. The frequency of the wave is the number of the cycles of a sine wave completed in one second. In the case of moving waves, such as radio waves, the frequency can be thought as the number of cycles of the wave that pass a given point in one second. The term hertz was designated for use in lieu of the term cycles per second when referring to the frequency of radio waves. Hertz refer to the number of occurrences that take place in one second. The frequencies falling between three kilohertz to three hundred gigahertz are called radio frequencies since they are commonly used in radio communications. Tags: XM Radio, Satellite Radio
The High Tech Uses of Radio Waves: Not just for listening to Music Anymore. By: Tymon Hytem Mainly radio is practiced to transmit selected data to different geographical points through disjunctive media (aerial, spacial) without cables. As radio is used for channelizing sound and television signals, it is also used for transmitting data in ciphered form. It also sends out signals and pick up their reflections from the bodies in route. Some long ambit radios are used by cosmonauts to interact from other planets on earth and to channel information with them. They have there contact with their bases on different parts of the earth and with the different space ships and even between themselves with the help of the radio waves. Radio Waves: Generating, Sending and Broadcasting By: Tymon Hytem Radio waves are easy to generate, can travel long distances and can penetrate buildings easily, so they are widely used for communication, both indoors and outdoors. These waves also work in heavy wooden terrain, can cross glass walls and even work well in the moving vehicles. Tags: Satellite Radio, XM Radio
Radio Characteristics: A Quick History By: Tymon Hytem In early times messages were sent over the wires by alternately turning electrical currents on and off, producing a series of "dots" and "dashes" in accordance with a telegraph code. There were many drawbacks of this system like it was one to one message delivery method , and was wire dependent or we can say the media was the wires that had a network between the places where the communication was needed. Another was the data transferred in coded form, special training was needed to code and decode the data. Tags: Satellite Radio, XM Radio
Radio Controlled Watches By: Jamie Brown Traditionally watches rely on their own movement to record the time, unfortunately unless the movement is extremely accurate, these watches can loose the accurate time. A range of modern watches are now controlled by an external radio wave or other signal. The original radio controlled watches were expensive and would often have problems obtaining a signal. Recently as the technology powering the radio controlled watches has become more refined the price has fallen significantly, allowing an entry level radio controlled watch to be purchased for under £1000.
