Modern Day Cloth Nappies Posted By: Flower Child

Cloth nappies are an eco-friendly and economic option to disposables. Gone would be the days of terry toweling squares with safety pins and pilchers! Modern Cloth Nappies (MCNs) are extremely different- they're just as simple to use (but a lot more appealing!) than disposables, will not leak, and are considerably better for the environment. They're normally made of bamboo, cotton, or natural cotton. There are numerous designs of MCNs to suit your baby as well as your budget.

All in Ones (AIOs) are the simplest kind of cloth nappy to utilize. They are (like their name) all in one particular - there've absorbent, waterproof and stay-dry layers all sewn collectively inside a practical all in 1 nappy.

All in Twos (AI2) are similar to All in Ones, other than the absorbent part from the nappy gets snapped into place with simple to use snaps, making them easier to dry after washing.

Pocket Nappies are like AIO and AI2s, except the cover and liner are sewn collectively to produce a pocket that this absorbent enhancer gets stuffed into.amber teething necklace amber teething necklaces amber bea

Selecting The Right Geomembranes For Your Needs Posted By: Shane Carter

Geomembranes, or liners, are an excellent way to prevent liquid loss or contamination. Selecting the right type of geomembrane for an application can be a confusing process. When searching the market you may come across a wide variety of geomembrane liners. This is due to the unique needs of various industries they are used in.

The type of geomembrane that is suitable for a specific application depends on several different factors. The size of the liner needed; the kind of liquid which is to be stored, whether the area will contains hazardous or non-hazardous liquids; the longevity required, what kind of environment the liner will be exposed to; what guarantees are needed; if the liner requires protection from UV rays; etc. These are just some of the major factors one needs to consider before selecting a geomembrane liner for their needs. These geomembranes are available in different materials such as reinforced polyethylene, reinforced polypropylene, PVC, XR-5, and various geotextiles for protection of the liners or for filtration.

The reason why there are so many variations is because of the wide range of application Geomembrane liners are used for.geomembrane geomembranes vapor barriers

Sump Pump Installation Posted By: Josh Nelson

When a homeowner faces a flooded basement or crawl space, it can be one of the most dreaded problems known. Basements and crawl spaces are below ground and after a heavy rain, they may become flooded. This flooding may damage anything stored there and be quite costly. In such situations, a sump pump installation may be recommended.

A sump pump installation is a sure way to stop that flooding in your basement and the expense of the materials that may be stored there. The sump pump works to pump the water out of your basement or crawl space. Sump pumps will remove the water out and away from the foundation where it will not run back in. Even if you think your home is well sealed against flooding, water can often find a way under a door or other opening you may not be aware of.

A sump pump installation is your best way of defense when it comes to flooding of your basement or crawl space. If your house is in an area lower than the natural ground water table, a sump pump is ideal for your home.Los Angeles Plumber

Pond Liners - The Hole Story Posted By: doughoover

Sometimes I get calls from people who have purchased a new home with an old pond that has a big problem. The number one complaint is that it will not hold water; second is that the water is green; third is that the rock work is ugly - an eyesore!

At that point I ask if their waterfall and pond are constructed with a pond liner, and they are surprised that I knew that. However, eighty percent of all these types of calls pertain to a liner pond and waterfall. We have replaced over $80,000 worth of defective liner ponds. One customer in Rancho Bernardo, California, had spent $14,000 to have a koi pond and waterfall built by a large and well respected local pond liner supply company. They complained of needing to add water daily since the liner pond was constructed over a year ago.

The pond liner installer's response was that the loss of water was from evaporation. The liner pond was fitted with a manual auto fill system and they discovered the solenoid was turning on every 15 minutes to replenish the loss.

Pondless Waterfalls - Concrete Vs. Pond Liner Posted By: doughoover

The get-rich-quick factor in the pond liner industry has forced up the price of pond liner kits to equal the cost of concrete construction. If you search for the truth about concrete ponds and waterfalls from reading the literature of the greed-driven liner pond industry, you will not find it. Why? Because if the truth be known, no one in their right mind would invest good, hard-earned money in a pond liner!

The pond liner track record speaks for itself:

More than 37% of all waterfalls have serious structural damage within 3 years of construction.

57% of homeowners say they are rather unsatisfied with the way their waterfall came out after the project was completed.

One in three waterfalls and ponds are leaking water within nine months of completion.

63% of "do-it-yourselfers" say they wished they had the proper information from the "get go" or that they had hired someone.

These statistics are from the pond liner industry itself (Bob Wilder, 48-Hour Waterfall). I can confirm and attest to these figures myself. I have built over 1,900 concrete and rebar waterfalls and ponds over the past 26 years.pondless waterfalls pond liners liner leaks concrete ponds

How To Build A Pondless Waterfall Posted By: doughoover

Definition: A pondless waterfall or "child-proof waterfall" is a waterfall that cascades into a subterranean catch basin or cistern rather than a pond. The collected water is then returned to the top of the waterfall by means of a pump system.

Why Pondless?

In 1984 I built what I called a "childproof" waterfall using reinforced concrete, because building codes state that because of the liability factor, ponds can only be 18" deep or you are required to conform to all of the same building codes and requirements of a swimming pool (6 foot fence perimeter, special gates, door alarms, etc.)." Since this waterfall was located in the front yard, it could not be more than 18" and if it was, there was not enough space for a large enough pond to prevent it from being sucked dry by the time the water returned back to the pond by way of the waterfall. So I installed an electronic water leveler system to insure the collection basin would automatically be replenished with water as needed.how to design pondless waterfall build water gardens

Skimming Off The Top - Profits From Inferior Skimmers Posted By: doughoover

Trading Reliability, Simplicity and Effectiveness For Skimmer Profits

Tom Barthel's article, "Pulling the Envelope," in the May 2007 issue of Water Garden News, has got me going. In it he said, "Technological innovations for skimmers and filter-fall products have leveled off recently. On the rise, instead, are units that use creative features and meet the customer's need for low maintenance, durable products sold at competitive prices."

He is confirming the truth about what I have been preaching for over ten years. The true reason that sales of liner skimmers and fall-filters have leveled off is because their poor performance is coming back to "bite" the skimmer scammers in the bottom line! These skimmers are designed for making profits, not filtering ponds.

The so-called pond experts operate like the pharmaceutical industry. They advise consumers on the so-called benefits of the very products they produce and sell, in this case skimmers. Drug companies sell products which generally mask the actual symptoms of a disease and in the process mess up the body's balance even more. This creates yet a new need for another drug to mask yet another symptom.pondless waterfall biofilter skimmer water garden pond skimm

Selecting A Geomembrane Liner Posted By: Shane Carter

A Geomembrane liner is normallya straight sheet film or reinforced plastic material that isused for containment to prevent liquid or matter from seeping into the ground. Each geomembrane liner has different characteristics depending on the material used for its construction. There is a wide selectionof geomembrane liners available in the market today. Selecting the right geomembrane liner can be a confusing process.

The Key To Pond Liner Longevity Posted By: Shane Carter

There are several factors that can affect how long a pond liner can last. One of the most important factors of course is what the pond contains. Different chemicals can affect how long a liner will last. Giving your pond liner supplier as much information as possible will help you choose the correct pond liner for your specific containment needs. Most ponds though contain just water so this article will mostly discuss those types of pond liners.

For the standard water pond liner, the biggest culprit in destroying a liner, more often than not, is the suns u.v. rays. Although woven coated reinforced polyethylene liners are often an excellent, affordable, choice for a pond liner, these products must be buried if you hope to have your liner last over 15 years or more. These products can often come with a 5 year u.v. warranty but have a difficult time lasting longer than that.

For reinforced liners, a coextruded product is needed for a pond liner that will remain unburied. These products cost more but give you the comfort in knowing that they can last for a very long time in the sun.pond liner large pond liners pondliners pvc liner

Liner Ponds And Pondless Waterfalls - Asset Or Liability? Posted By: doughoover

The first "pondless" waterfall was designed and built in Fallbrook, California in the early 1980's, long before the advent of rubber or PVC pond liners. However, that particular design was referred to as a "childproof waterfall" with its descriptive name lending a better definition of its function and purpose.

This design was the result of solving the enormous liability issues related to small children drowning in bodies of standing water such as swimming pools and ponds. The client wanted a waterfall in his front yard; however, there was no possibility for a pond due to the topography and space restrictions. In addition, building codes restricted pond depths to 18 inches, unless all of the code requirements were satisfied, such as bordering the body of water with a 6 foot fence, a special gate requirement, and door alarms, to name just a few.

The client also stressed to me the importance of low maintenance. A pond, regardless of its depth, becomes a catch basin for blowing leaves and debris. Other maintenance factors included algae growth from the water's exposure to sunlight, and evaporation resulting from larger surface area of the water.leaky ponds leaky liner concrete ponds vs liners lawsuits

Pondless Waterfalls - The History Posted By: doughoover

In the early 1990s, a rubber sheet material, manufactured by Firestone and Goodyear, became a popular construction material used in building ponds and waterfalls. One innovative entrepreneur in Chicago began pre-cutting various configurations of rubber and packaging it with a skimmer, filter, sump pump and tubing, creating a do-it-yourself kit.

It was not long before the word got out on how profitable pond construction was and even professionals were becoming "pond experts". Why not, if in one day you can dig a hole, pile dirt at one end, cover it with a rubber sheet, cover the sheet with rocks, fill it with water, drop in a sump pump, hook up a tube, and presto change-o, $6000 profit in 6 to 8 hours?

Well, the pioneers had a great thing going, but they made a fatal mistake, they started shouting "gold" and "jackpot"! Soon the rush was on. It is called competition and it came from every angle, manufacturer, supplier, retailer, wholesaler and especially installers.

As would be expected, this get-rich-quick fever turned into an epidemic, forcing up the price of pond liner kits to equal the cost of professional concrete construction.leaky ponds leaky liner concrete ponds vs liners lawsuits
