More Than We Bargained For - Narconon Looks Into The Club Drug Epidemic Posted By: Becky Winslow

"Club Drugs" are a group of group of psychoactive drugs that allow the user to become less inhibited and more intimate in social settings. They are referred to as "Club Drugs" because they are most often used at clubs and all-night rave parties. Narconon has been aware of the great risks that club drugs pose to users. We have made it a point to educate our youth, as well as community members, of the serious dangers these drugs present.

What Are They?

The term "Club Drugs" is an umbrella name for MDMA ("ecstasy"), GHB ("liquid ecstasy"), Rohypnol ("roofies"), and ketamine ("special K"). GHB, Rohypnol, and Ketamine are all central nervous system depressants, whereas MDMA is a central nervous system stimulant. These drugs are most often used in social settings, such as clubs, bars, parties, concerts, and other places that teens and young adults go.

What Are the Physical Effects?

The exact effects that these drugs will have on the body are not certain, due to the inability of knowing what contaminants may have been used in the manufacturing process. However, it is certain that users will suffer consequences.

In low doses, GHB causes drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances.drugs clubs raves rehab addiction treatment

Drug And Alcohol Addiction Posted By: Narconon Fresh Start

Drug and alcohol addiction is a widespread problem; many people who feel they have their drinking or drug taking under control are actually in the grip of an addiction that they can't or won't even recognise. Luckily for those who are willing to ask for help, there is no shortage of organisations that can provide emotional support, advice and even practical assistance to those addicted to drugs or alcohol.

Rehab clinics, short for rehabilitation, may seem to be the domain of celebrity addicts whose careers have been derailed by too much partying, but ordinary people can be admitted to these institutions too. As with any other methods of dealing with addiction, the addict should want to be helped and has to admit that they have a problem. In some cases, courts have sent people to rehab to try and force them to clean up their act, but this is only a short-term solution. If the addict doesn't want to be helped they will soon find themselves drinking or taking drugs once released from the clinic.

In most addiction cases rehab isn't necessary.Narconon Fresh Start

3 Things You Won't Believe People Did While On Club Drugs Posted By: Becky Winslow

By now, most people are aware that club drugs are illegal, and that they can be dangerous. However, most people are unaware of just how impaired one's judgment can become while under the influence of club drugs. It's not hype, and it's not make-believe. Drugs such as GHB, Ketamine, Ecstasy, Rohypnol, along with LSD and Methamphetamines can severely impact a person's judgment at even a small dose. The following examples and similar stories are becoming more frequent as time goes on. Anyone who thinks club drugs are harmless, or are not responsible for some dangerous and stupid things should read on.

Smuggling Drugs Aboard a Military Plane

Recently, pair of Military men, one a Captain in the United States Military, were found guilty of smuggling in one of the more popular club drugs aboard a military plane. They were charged with not only smuggling, but conspiring to possess and distribute the drug. These are not stupid people, obviously. Yet, their desire to take and sell the drug overcame even common sense. It is quite possible that the decision to do this was done while under the influence of Ecstasy.addiction abuse drugs treatment club drugs raves ecstacy

Several Theories For Reasons For Substance Abuse Posted By: datahome

Read more information about nature of addiction. It's got always fascinated me that people of excellent will, people of letters, qualified people who study and earnestly try to understand the nature of addiction, can frequently completely disagree with one another. Is drug addiction the result of a man response to pain Could it be genetic Is it socio-economic Can it be caused by a shortage of love.

The Mayo Clinic comes with a scientific explanation of when drug addiction occurs, stating, Physical addiction looks to occur when repeated using a drug alters reward pathways on your brain. The addicting drug causes physical changes to some nerve cells (neurons) inside your brain. Neurons use chemicals called neurotransmitters to talk.

Narconon sees the addiction as being caused partially by the selfesteem individuals. Those who have low selfconcepts, who feel bad about themselves, use a higher rate of addiction. Individuals with low selfconcepts use psychoactive substances with the idea to enhance or create pleasure inside their lives, or to decrease the constant emotional pain they live with. Better a person feels about himself, the less likely he'll be to apply or abuse psychoactive substances.nature of addiction big island treatment big island recove

Narconon Investigates The Long Term Health Risks Of Methamphetamine Addiction Posted By: Daniel Manson

Methamphetamine Addiction

Perhaps the most detrimental long-term health problem caused by methamphetamine use is addiction. The risk of becoming addicted to methamphetamine is very high for people who use the drug. Addiction can be described as "the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, such as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma." - dictionary.com. Somebody that uses methamphetamine over a long period of time may find that his or her brain has changed. Doctors and scientists are starting to discover how problematic these changes can be.

Meth and the Brain

Addicts who are chronically addicted to methamphetamine tend to act out in random violence. The long term changes in the brain can manifest as hallucinations - both visual and auditory, paranoia, and dementia. Many long time abusers of methamphetamine have experienced formication, which is the feeling that insects are all over their bodies. More than twenty percent of methamphetamine addicts develop an affliction in their brains that is very similar to schizophrenia. This stays with them even after they stop using the drug and in many cases it cannot be treated.Narconon Health Meth abuse drugs addiction

What Is Meth And Why Is It So Addictive? Posted By: Becky Winslow

Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant that was discovered in 1919 by a Japanese scientist. It was first marketed and sold as a recreational drug, until its side effects became evident. Methamphetamine is still used to treat some diseases, but the necessity of its use for any reason is open to debate. Methamphetamine provides a seemingly limitless supply of energy for the user. Meth users often report feeling superhuman with increased awareness and highly euphoric. It is perhaps these effects which results in a high potential of abuse.

The effects of Methamphetamine As a stimulant methamphetamine causes a user to stay awake and alert for long periods of time. It was used during war to assist pilots to fly longer missions and ground troops to last longer on the battlefield. Methamphetamine is also known to affect the moral compass of the user. Users often feel little or no emotion when inflicting harm on others. This contributes to its use during war time, as troops become effective killing machines while using the drug. Meth has similar effects to cocaine but is often many times more potent.Meth addiction abuse drugs narconon health kids teens

How To Help A Withdrawing Meth Addict Posted By: Becky Winslow

To help a meth addict with meth withdrawal it is best to get them into a professional program that comprehensively deals with all aspects of meth drug withdrawal, namely a Narconon program.

Meth drug is a psycho stimulant that is also physically addictive. If not professionally supervised, the rebound effects from meth withdrawal will be intense and painful at both a physical and emotional level.

Although withdrawal from stimulant drugs is generally safer than narcotics or alcohol withdrawal, care needs to be taken that the meth addict does not choose to use meth drug again to relieve the symptoms of meth withdrawal.

Although the meth addicts in withdrawal might find themselves to be sleeping to excess, as a result of fatigue, brought on by meth over-stimulation, it is likely meth users will feel depleted, rather than a healthy tiredness. Meth places the body and mind under much tension and pressure. Meth withdrawal can lead to excessive depression, but equally to feelings of tension, irritability and anger. http://www.csam-asam.org/pdf/misc/MethamphetamineWithdrawalMcGregor.pdf

Mood swings will occur, much like the pendulum of a clock arcs back and forth around the point of equilibrium and rest.Narconon Meth Abuse Addiction Rehabilitation Health

Do You Know How To Recognize The Signs Of Methamphetamine Use? Posted By: Becky Winslow

You instinctively know that something is wrong. You think it's drug use but involvement with drugs is denied. But still, something is very wrong.

It could be your spouse or your child, a best friend or even your parent. You could be a boss trying to figure out what's wrong with your employee or an employee wondering what's up with the boss. If you've got someone using something as highly addictive, physically damaging and downright vicious as methamphetamine, you'd better know how to spot it.

The first thing to know is that when a person is addicted, tragically, they usually try to perpetuate the addiction by refusing help and denying any problem. Addicts routinely manipulate anyone around them who might threaten their ability to keep using the drug they feel they need to function - to feel good - to keep cravings and withdrawal sickness away. So the first thing to expect is that you are very unlikely to get a straight answer. You will have to learn the signs, look for evidence of drug use and then make your own decision on the matter.

Next, methamphetamine is a strong stimulant. It can be smoked, ingested or injected.Narconon Drug abuse Rehab Health Meth addiction alcohol rehabilitation

How To Stop Methamphetamine Addiction Posted By: Becky Winslow

Methamphetamine addiction can be prevented but, the process involves critical and strategic planning. Methamphetamine, commonly known as "meth", is a highly addictive stimulant. The effects last longer than other drugs, making it even more potentially dangerous, than drugs whose effects are short lived. The production and use of meth are among the most dangerous of all drugs. It involves a family, a community, a country to help wage an effective war against this deadly drug.

Law enforcement works daily across the country to stop the manufacture and the distribution of methamphetamine. Police, detectives and other law enforcement agencies work consistently with sting operations, raids, and busts to seek out the "meth labs" and bring them down. A lot of research and many observational hours go into finding and then successfully busting a meth cook or dealer. Meth labs are infamously known for their potential danger because of the combination and processing of several highly toxic chemicals. In essence, elimination of the source of meth distribution is the most resourceful method of stopping the meth addiction.

The effects of drug education on America's youth have profound and valuable effects.Narconon Health Meth Addiction Abuse

Ways Teens Can Say No To Alcohol Posted By: Becky Winslow

Many people do not realize the large amount of young adults who are using and abusing alcohol. This abuse has become so significant, that before the age of 18, over 70 percent of teens have had at least one drink. NIDA, The National Institute for Drugs and Alcohol, has also discovered that people are four times more likely to become addicted to alcohol when they start to drink before the legal age limit. Educating our youth on drug and alcohol abuse is very important and helping them to say no is a big part of that.

Talking to your children and informing them about alcohol and the dangers it entails is a good way to prevent alcohol abuse. Letting them know that alcohol is dangerous and that it is the main cause of over 75,000 deaths per year could definitely help them make the right decision. For some kids, they may start just because everyone else is doing it and they want to fit in; this is not how you want to fit in. Let your child know that these are not the friends they want to hang out with on a day to day basis.Narconon Alcohol Teens Rehab Prevention Education

Alcohol's Negative Impact On Athletes Posted By: Becky Winslow

As a popular social drink, the negative impact of alcohol on athletic performance is seriously underestimated. In most countries alcohol advertising in sport is severely limited, or restricted. However, there is still a strong social imperative for people to drink alcohol. Athletes need to be aware of the negative impact of alcohol abuse on athletic performance and make an informed decision not to drink alcohol if they want to achieve optimal athletic results. Athletes know that regulation of sleep, good food intake, and specialized workout routines are crucial to the high level of performance that is demanded of athletes - both as a personal best, and for the good of the team. Athletes and others can be surprised at the many ways in which alcohol drinking impairs athletic performance. A brochure published by Princeton University identifies the main negative impacts that alcohol drinking has on athletes.

Effects of Alcohol after Workout

Athletes might think that a post workout drink is ok - relaxing and restorative - but this is not the case. Alcohol prevents muscle repair and recovery. After a strenuous workout, you need nutrition and a good sleep.Narconon Alcohol Rehab Alcohol treatment Rehabilitation centers
