Mixed Martial Art- A Great Workout. Posted By: Amit

There are many different sports or activities that we like to do in our spare time. People use the outlet of sports or other recreational activities in order to stay in shape, stay focused, or to get out some stress that is in their lives. What do boxing, wrestling; weight lifting and judo all have in common? The answer is that they all are used in mixed martial arts. Elements of all of these combat sports come together to make up the moves and holds that are used in MMA, the sport that spawned the UFC. Mixed martial arts, has enjoyed a lot of popularity, especially in Westchester, New York. Now before you go on and rave about how amazing and fantastic this idea actually is, the truth is that hybrid martial arts have been around for centuries already!
Mixed martial arts provide a great workout for young kids. In a structured environment, kids get strength training without the use of weights that can be dangerous for younger children. They will be trained in the basics of Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and they will learn the basics of other martial arts as well.Muay Thai kickboxing Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Mixed martial arts training is a great way to exercise and strengthen your body and mind. Get started with a training program today and begin feeling and looking better! Training for mixed martial arts will have an impact on your levels of strength, flexibility, stamina, and endurance. Apart from this it will provide you with the ability to defend yourself. This can be very useful in today's world. You might find yourself wondering about where MMA originated. Mixed martial arts were first exhibited in ancient Greece. There were few rules there that were imposed on the people who participated in fighting. Most combat sports focus on only one or the other and are quite limited in what types of attacks are allowed. For example, wrestling allows takedowns and pins, but no submissions. Boxing allows legal punches, but prohibits kicks, knees or elbows. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is originally from Japan and is a Mixed Martial Art that spotlights grappling and ground fighting. This form allows the weaker opponent to overcome the larger opponent.Muay Thai kickboxing Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Stop The Fisting Posted By: Matthew McKernan

In any military based system, the use of a fist is impractical and dangerous. Any system that advocates using a fist and is taught as self defense or in a military context should be re-examined as to its authenticity in real world situations.

The reason that ko-ryu (old school) systems that were used to train samurai in hand to hand combat never used a fist and relied heavily on grappling and joint locks combined with limited edge of hand and heel of hand strikes when it came to hand to hand combat was because the person they were fighting was most likely wearing armor and the risk of injuring your fist to the point where gripping a weapon was impossible was a risk they did not take. Modern warriors both civilian and professional should do the same.

Even the Okinawa fighting arts known for their development of the first fist in the use of the reverse punch, avoided striking the head. Even though they advocated heavy fist conditioning, punching to hard areas of the body were ill-advised due to risk of severe injury or worse, infection.martial arts self defense

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Beginning Posted By: Travis Lutter

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be classified alongside the sports of Judo and Taekwondo, being a martial art and combat sport. As well as being used for the art of self defense, it is great in character building in the young person, giving them a focus and aim in life.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is said to have come about due to a large immigrant population of Japanese in Brazil, its' invention being a relatively new one, in the twentieth century. It is derived form the Japanese martial art of Judo, and although is very similar in many aspects, ranking being gained by stripes and bjj belts, it sets itself aside from Judo by being a sport that is more focused on ground fighting.

The main focus of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the capability to grapple your opponent to the ground, locking them into a position from which they are unable to move, regardless of the weight of the opponents.

The Jiu Jitsu Gi is the formal uniform used when training and fighting Ju Jitsu. Again, it is very similar to that of Judo, but the legs and arms are slightly less loose.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Training Equipment For Mma Posted By: Travis Lutter

Just like football, baseball, and basketball, the sport of MMA is a combat sport and has it's own specific equipment for effectiveness and safety.

The main purpose of MMA gear and equipment is to provide safety for the fighter who is training. This article will cover both the essential MMA equipment as well as the optional MMA equipment you need to get before you start your training.
Essential MMA Equipment

MMA Training gloves: There is a difference between MMA fighting gloves and training gloves. Training gloves have more protection and foam to protect the knuckles and wrists.

Mouthpiece: No fighter should ever get into the ring or octagon without a mouthpiece. This piece of equipment should be required for any type of contact.

Groin Protection: This is very important for the men who are getting into the ring or octagon. You can pickup this up your local sports store.

MMA Headgear: The head gear for Mixed Martial Arts is different than the headgear for sparring head gear for Taekwondo. So, make sure you purchase headgear specifically made for mixed martial arts.
MMA Fighting Gloves:

Most MMA organization typically require between 4oz. and 6oz. MMA gloves.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense

The Differences Of Mma And Karate Posted By: Travis Lutter

I am talking about the differences between the sports MMA and karate.

I have been doing MMA for about a year. It has become my favorite sport, and I think it has a lot of differences from karate. In MMA you learn a variety of techniques. You learn both strikes and how to grapple on the ground. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. It is called this because you use element from Jujitsu, Kick Boxing, Wrestling, Karate, and Taekwondo. Each of these types of combat has their own strengths.
In MMA you try to leverage the best from all of them.

I used to do Taekwondo, but I don't remember much, and I don't think it really helped me with my grappling. Karate means empty hand. I personally think MMA is more useful because I don't know where you could use those karate moves in a fight because if you tried to punch, then somebody would quickly take you down. I think Karate is more like dancing and performing open forms then training for real combat.
I still have respect for people that prefer this kind of sport but think it is much less practical than MMA.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense

Your Guide To Ufc Undisputed 3 Posted By: Partita Varina

The third video game being launched in the best-selling UFC series will be UFC Undisputed 3. This fighting title will be based upon the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), which is the biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) championship in the world. MMA is a full-contact sport whereby competitors fight using a mix of punching, kicking and wrestling fighting strategies such as judo, boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, karate, wrestling, Taekwondo plus more fighting disciplines.

Quite a few enhancements have been made since UFC Undisputed 2010 (which attained a score of 84 on Metacritic). UFC Undisputed 3 now features a huge roster of over 150 UFC fighters, two new weight classes, a brand-new submission process, fresh finishing moves, enhanced visual appearance as well as easier accessibility for beginners by including 2 control systems - the traditional UFC game controls and a brand-new easier game control scheme.

The game also incorporates a brand-new Pride Mode, which is actually a Japanese Mixed Martial Arts championship with minimal rules, including a tournament trophy as well as boasting an entirely different style of MMA combat.ufc undisputed 3 xbox 360 games ps3 games

I Lift Weights Posted By: Matthew McKernan

I lift weights. I also run and hit things. At 43 I'm just as active now as I ever was. "Active", what an old person term. In your teens, 20's and 30's you worked out, in your 40's you're fucking active. Be careful, when people start calling you "vibrant" or telling you how good you look you're going to take a dirt nap soon. Anyway, there's no reason to slow down. The way I figure, the Spartans were in the active military from 20 to age 60 (sometimes 65) so I'm not slowing down until then. Plus given medical technology today as compared to 1500 years ago, there's no reason why in your 70's you still can't be going strong.

I'm going to ask you to be honest with yourself. Given your overall return on investment, is your time better spent learning katas (forms) or lifting weights? Would you get more benefit practicing esoteric methods of harmonizing your chi or dead-lifting?

Years ago in Tae Kwon Do, the instructor was drilling us while we were practicing blocks in the air.martial arts self defense

Self Defence And Fighting Posted By: Paul Halme

You can be the best fighter in the world. You can have the best grappling, the strongest and fastest punches, kicks that can knock anybody out, and a self belief attitude that can never be shaken. Does this mean that you are an expert in self defense? No. Does it mean that you have a basic level of self defense skills? Maybe.

So what does it mean? Well, simply, it means that you are a great fighter. A combat athlete who has beaten many other fighters. Self defense is so much different to fighting though. Yes, fighting may become a part of self defense, if the worst comes to the worst, but someone trained in the art of self defense will try his very best to not get in a position where fighting is a must.

Self defense skills involve awareness, reasoning, concentration, cunningness, tactics and other attributes. Learning how to disarm a knife wielding maniac is part of self defense but must only be carried out, because the other more important skills failed.

An elderly granny may have more self defense skills than a trained fighter. Think about it.Keller BJJ Keller MMA Keller Muay Thai Keller Kids Martia

Annapolis Mma | Become The Ultimate Athlete Posted By: AnnapolisMMA

There is no doubt that that MMA practitioners are the most conditioned athletes on the planet. They possess attributes of conditioning, speed, stamina, and strength (without lifting weights).

There are many different types of athletes. They will excel in the sport they participate in. But, they will normally lack key aspects that will make them an ultimate athlete. Take a marathon runner for instance. A marathon runner has incredible endurance and stamina. However, they will lack in strength and power. Other sport AND rsquo;s athletes will lack where other athletes are strong. It isn AND rsquo;t impossible to dominate all the major attributes of an extreme athlete such as endurance, speed, power, strength, agility, cardio, balance, and stamina. You will simply need the guidance to accomplish this feat.

To become an ultimate athlete, you must train in MMA. Mixed Martial Arts athletes are the most well rounded athletes on the planet, period! Not only do they possess mental toughness, they also possess all the physical attributes listed above combined with fighting skills. Even the smallest of MMA fighters can subdue a much bigger opponent based on athleticism alone, not even adding fighting skills.

Meet Your Martial Arts Instructor - A Guide To Staying In Control Posted By: Leon

Wondering what martial arts are and how beneficial they can be? The term martial arts refers to the extensive systems of codified practices and all of the various systems of training of combat that have been arranged or systematized. Generally, these different systems or styles are all designed for a variety of reasons and purposes including physically defeating opponents and defending against threats, i.e., self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness, along with the mental and spiritual development.

Generally, Martial Arts can be broken down into five distinct categories: Stand-up or striking styles, grappling styles, low impact styles, weapons based styles, and MMA
(Modern mixed martial arts) which requires a high level of physical fitness. Along with this, the
emergence of MMA (A Hybrid Sports Style) has caused quite a bit of mixing of styles in recent years.

We know that exercise is important for teenagers and sport is an ideal outlet for all that energy. For many of them it is seen as an opportunity to become popular and more attractive.
Regardless of why they decide to participate, there is a range of benefits for them.
