Exhibitions At The Irish Museum Of Modern Art - Programme For 2010 Posted By: Monica Cullinane

A series of displays marking important new donations to IMMA, and a special exhibition promoting engagement with the visual arts by those with disabilities are all part of a busy and wide-ranging exhibition programme for 2010 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Plans for the coming year also include solo exhibitions by such leading international artists as Francis Alys, Carlos Garaicoa, Jorge Pardo and Anne Tallentire.

Exhibitions: Temporary Programme

The temporary exhibitions programme got underway with exhibitions by Cuban-American Jorge Pardo and Irish artist Anne Tallentire which continue until 3 May. Widely regarded as one of the most inventive artists of his generation, Pardo follows his participation in IMMA's 2006 Lunar Reggae show with an exploration of the place of art within new media. His highly conceptual virtual retrospective takes the form of photomural wallpaper, covering the entire gallery space and incorporating every aspect of the exhibition. Anne Tallentire, much praised for the originality of her work, presents recent projects and related pieces focusing on how the ordering, or disordering, of things can signify everyday social and cultural determinants. Juxtaposing action, object and image she employs a range of media from text to photography and film.exhibitions exhibitions Ireland modern art modern art exhibitions exhibitions exhibition Irelan

Being Inspired By Chocolate Posted By: Mary Foley

Inspiration is everywhere if we're open to it. Not long ago after several long ten to twelve hour days, I was dragging. I was working hard and had gotten a lot done, but I had more to do. The problem was my mojo was running low. So, I did what so many of us do when we need that temporary jolt of energy. I headed for the chocolate!

This time it was a special box of chocolates that I'd been given a month ago as a gift. I reached into the cupboard for that familiar gold crested box of the divine choc-o-late. You know what I'm talking about: Godiva.

And oh, I had been so good with this box of Godiva. I'd only take one or two pieces at a time to make it last as long as possible. Then I'd make sure that each and every bite was a ceremony of sorts; complete with the Mmmm's and the Ohhhh, so good's. Now, I don't do this with Hershey kisses; I pop those morsels in my mouth without a second thought - not even time for the going, going, gone! But, Godiva, well that's an upgraded chocolate experience.Inspiration chocolate bodacious motivation inspiration

5 Steps To Take Charge Of Your Professional Growth Posted By: Mary Foley

You've heard the adage "If there's one thing that's constant, its change", right? Ain't that the truth, especially when it comes to our professional lives! Just ask area employees of Wachovia Securities or Circuit City. Both companies are predicting or experiencing job loss because of major changes in their business. On the other hand, some area businesses are growing, like the small business Tabitha Geary Company who recently received an influx of venture capital to build a larger local retail show room and then take her memento organizing and archiving business nationwide. There are other businesses experiencing the same success as hers too.

Sometimes change in our professional lives comes at us expectedly and unwanted, sometimes we initiate it. Either way, how we respond to changes to our professional lives is what really counts. I like to think of it as "Change is inevitable, growth is optional. Choose to grow".

I came to this conclusion from lots of "practice", whether I wanted it or not.business womrn women in business bodacious mary foley personal development promotion opportunities career development self-improvement motivat

We Can Do It Again! Posted By: Mary Foley

"We Can Do It!" is the banner across one of the most well-known posters during World War II encouraging women to join the workforce for the war effort. You probably remember it - the image of a woman with a red bandana on her head, rolling up her blue shirt sleeve as she makes a fist. It always communicates to me a woman's strength and determination. Recently I picked up a book titled "Rosie the Riveter" about this amazing workforce shift in American history and came to appreciate just how much this phenomenon set in motion a new level of women's independence.

Women joined the U.S. workforce in never before seen numbers and in never before seen roles during World War II. More than 6 million women became welders, electricians, mechanics, boiler makers, streetcar operators, crane operators, bus drivers, taxicab drivers, chemists, physicists, statisticians, journalists, secretaries, federal government workers, farm managers, and more. They contributed to meeting the military needs called for by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1942 of 60,000 planes, 45,000 tanks and 20,000 antiaircraft guns.self esteem self confidence confidence building women support for women women in business business women bodacious mary foley motivation ins

We All Gotta Little Bodaciousness Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious, is that even a word?" I've been asked. Absolutely! The dictionary definition of bodacious includes descriptors like bold, outstanding, and courageous. I define it as "the courage to be in charge of your life." I love the word bodacious because it captures a positive spirit of freedom, choice and being all you can be.

Do you want feel more bodacious and wonder how? It's easier than you may have thought! My personal experience has convinced me that in the journey of becoming a Bodacious Woman, the place to start is on the inside. And, once you're there, you'll find that you already have a little (and maybe a TON of) bodaciousness to start with.

Being bodacious - I mean really feeling, thinking, and being bodacious - is an inside out process. All the how-to advice in the world about how to get what you want in your life doesn't matter if you're not willing to take it in and let it move you.self help Bodacious personal development inspiration motivation women's inspiration womens issues self confidence self esteem confidence buil

Think Strategically, Act Bodaciously Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious" means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you're on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! After starting as an $8 an hour customer service rep, I rose through the ranks of AOL, accepting four promotions and surviving over six layoffs to become the head of corporate training for 12,000 employees. Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's one of them: Think Strategically, Act Bodaciously.

Thinking strategically is intentionally thinking about the big picture of your career and life. You have to determine where you want to go before you can get there. Otherwise, it's all just happen stance.

It's all too easy to spend 100% of our time on the daily to-do list. There's always something that's demanding our attention. Between our jobs, kids, spouses, parents, finances, community involvement, and anything else in our lives, there's always something that must be addressed...now!Bodacious Mary Foley career business self improvement career skills business women promotion strategy job search corporate ladder

Embrace Office Politics Posted By: Mary Foley

Here's another: Embrace Office Politics

I try not to dwell on this too much. But had I known this sooner, this little bit of intelligence may have prevented a lot of angst and propelled my career to even higher levels: Office politics can be a good thing.

Surprised? Me, too. If I had been a little more savvy about how I could make office politics work for me, I might have avoided the glass ceiling and stayed at AOL a little longer. I might have achieved the title of Director or even VP. But no.bodacious mary foley office politics business business relationships women in business business women women execs business strategy

Self-esteem is the climate control in your life's house. No matter what is raging outside, when your self-esteem is healthy and functioning, you are safe, dry and secure within. Unfortunately, our culture tends to confuse self-esteem with self-absorption, self-centeredness or just plain old selfishness, and we discourage women from putting ourselves first. It's still seen as somehow charming to be modest to the point of self-deprecation ("this old thing?") or to be demur to the point of stepping out of our own spotlight that you worked so hard to create.Bodacious Women in Business Professionalism Job Promotion Career Women Career Work Life Job Change Salary Increase Asking for a raise women

Thrive On Shift & Change Posted By: Mary Foley

Here's number seven: Thrive on Shift and Change.

At AOL, my entire career was about rapid shift and change. For the first seven years, I was totally focused on the call center. I was promoted from customer service rep to trainer to training manager and then to call center manager. Soon other areas of my life namely one last-ditch effort to save my marriage after a year's separation demanded that I make a major change.job change careers bodacious personal development promotion career advancement women in business

Take A Stand Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious" means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you're on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! After starting as an $8 an hour customer service rep, I rose through the ranks of AOL, accepting four promotions and surviving over six layoffs to become the head of corporate training for 12,000 employees. Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's number six: Take a Stand.

It's up to you to decide at what point you're going to put your foot down. No one can tell you exactly how or when. But you'll know where that point is, even if it means facing the possible consequence of putting your relationship with your employer at risk. You'll know when you're feeling violated. You'll know when you're feeling used. You'll know when it's time to push back. It might be just a small moment, but it's the moment when you change forever.women in business career building empowerment bodacious mary foley motivation job satisfaction

Know How You Want To Be Treated Posted By: Mary Foley

Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's number five: Know How You Want to Be Treated.

Are you clear about how you want people to treat you? Have you experienced your boundaries being crossed or violated? One lesson women typically have a difficult time with is establishing boundaries. As little girls, most of us are never taught how to say, "This is what I want"" If we're particular about anything, say from the shade of our lipstick to how we want our CDs organized, we're criticized for being picky, selfish or spoiled.empowerment women's issues self esteem confidence boundaries personal development bodacious mary foley business promotion entrepreneur women

Actively Market Your Value Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious" means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you're on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's number four: Actively Market Your Value

One day while I was driving north on the interstate to speak at Princeton University, a billboard suddenly caught my attention. Amongst all the other colorful billboards promoting products and services that to this day I can't remember, this billboard was white with some simple black lettering. In large letters it read: Don't Advertise! "Huh?" I thought. Then I read the smaller writing below the alarming statement: Success is Overrated. "What?! No, it's not!" my mind was screaming.Bodacious career marketing self promotion business women women in business female careers careers for women self esteem career building gett

Take The Work Out Of Networking Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious" means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you're on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! After starting as an $8 an hour customer service rep, I rose through the ranks of AOL, accepting four promotions and surviving over six layoffs to become the head of corporate training for 12,000 employees. Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's number three: Take the Work Out of Networking

Networking. I find that women either love it or hate it. When they love it, they truly enjoy meeting others and are great at it. When they hate it, they'd rather go get a mammogram. At least in that situation, no one expects you to do more than stand there. Knowing how to network well can make or break your career.

I'm not keen on the term "networking". The problem is the word "work".Networking Business Women in Business Business Women Bodacious Entrepreneur marketing career

Create Deliberate Relationships Posted By: Mary Foley

"Bodacious" means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you're on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's number two: Create Deliberate Relationships

Bodacious Career builders know that in today's business world value lies in relationships. Everything is introduced, evaluated, negotiated, bought, sold, resolved, ended, and enjoyed based on relationships. The technological advancements that have evolved over recent years serve as both metaphors and evidence of our demand for an infinite ability to make connections through computers, modems, phone lines, and air waves, as well as among people in organizations. Even with all this high-tech stuff, it's still all about people.career entrepreneur women in business business women business leaders management personal development relationship building bodacious mary fo

Don't Take It Personally Posted By: Mary Foley

Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my "cheat sheet" of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here's the first one: Don't Take it Personally.

"Don't take it personally" is my absolute number one favorite Bodacious Way because it comes in handy all the time. We can all remember a time when we took it personally, right? We spent all this time, energy, and emotion on processing how we felt when someone slighted us, what we wished we'd said, and what, if anything, we were going to do about it.Bodacious self improvement selh-help self esteem motivation women in business business coping office politics gossip rumors business women

10 Things You Want Your Reputation To Say About You Posted By: Mary Foley

When it comes to building your business or your career in a company, how people perceive you is often to the difference between more sales, promotions, and certainly your satisfaction. Here are ten things you want your reputation to say about you. Use it for yourself and share it with a friend to help her build her business or career (these tips work for personal relationships, too!).

1. Give credit where it's due. You're nothing without the support of other peoples' contributions, technical know-how, and creative ideas. When it's obvious that you respect others by taking this step more support always shows up.

2. Create a safe place for brainstorming. People need to know you'll receive their ideas in a respectful and kind manner. Remember, you don't have to like or even agree with everything that comes out of a brainstorming session; simply listen with an open mind. The most valuable input will be things you never thought of yourself.

3. Respect yourself and take yourself lightly too. Your ability to laugh at your own moments of foolishness or mistakes will make everyone relax around you.women in business business women self respect self esteem wisdom motivation self help entrepreneur bodacious common sense self improvement

Feeling Secure In An Insecure World Posted By: Mary Foley

If there's nothing else carved on my tombstone, I hope it says: "Here lies a Bodacious Woman who knew how to thrive on shift and change!"

I believe we've just begun to taste the rate of change the world will experience this century. Hold onto your hats, the ride has just begun! We might as well enjoy it (because if nothing else, the alternative really stinks).

We all want security, but my life experience has forced me to come to a conclusion that I resisted for a long time: Security is an illusion. We've all heard that life doesn't come with guarantees, but do we really want to believe it?

Money won't bring security. Sure, it provides some comforts and advantages, but some of the richest people in the world are unhappy and insecure about their future. Relationships don't guarantee security, either. One word proves that: Divorce. A fabulous house may indeed be fabulous, but many people's homes have been damaged or destroyed by hurricanes, tornadoes, and all sorts of disasters. Wonderful kids offer tremendous satisfaction, but they don't always act so wonderfully.Security financial security bodacious women self help self esteem confidence prosperity abundance attraction personal power
