Feast Of The Drunken Dragon Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

Undoubtedly one of Macau's most unique and extraordinary festivals, the Feast of the Drunken Dragon is celebrated every year on the eighth day of the 4th month, according to the Chinese Lunar calendar. The ancient festival can trace its origins to the Kingdom of Kangxi which was in power during the Qing Dynasty. This celebration is organised by the Fisherman's Association in honour of a heavenly dragon that saved the people of a village from a deadly plague.

According to legend, a village was once ravaged by a plague. Its inhabitants decided to perform a ceremony to get rid of the plague. Praying fervently, they carried a Buddha statue around the village. As they approached the banks of a nearby river, a large python sprang from beneath the waters and attacked them. A Buddhist priest cut the creature into three and threw the pieces back into the river. A thunder storm erupted and the snake disappeared into the sky, and the plague was lifted.

Ever since, the villagers commemorated that day by celebrating the Feast of the Drunken Dragon. The event is marked by the performance of the unique Drunken Dragon Dance.feast of the drunken dragon attractions in macau

Absolutely Psychic Network: Basic Astrology Part3 Posted By: Absolutely Psychic

Saturn. The giver of laws or rules. The prince of time and

the material world. Satan. Laws. Sometimes obstacles,

authority.

Uranus. Insight, invention, breakthrough. Good uses for

Saturn. "To see eternity in a grain of sand."

Neptune. Cherish, solve, compassion. "The dewdrop slips

into the shining sea". Unity, solution, one.

Pluto. Transformation. Sensitivity to the impermanence of

life. Intimations of mortality.

Lunar north node. Vocation or application point.

Right-of-way.

The Lights

The Sun and Moon (or lights, as they are called) are the

two most important bodies. It is sometimes easier to

understand what they represent in astrology if we consider

how they interrelate with the Earth.

A good analogy is the following. Each of us is on Earth.

The bright and shining Sun represents someone older,

someone we look up to -- whether that be a teacher or guru.

The Moon represents someone younger, especially the groups

that we used to belong to. That is the analogy. Here is how

we might think about it:

We can't live either on the Sun or Moon. We have grown out

of and beyond the younger generation (Moon). Out of it we

once came or were born.women interest women issues alternative health wisdom yoga religion faith advice alternative medicine other relationships uncategorized w

Celebrate The Chinese New Year Bangkok Style ! Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

The Chinese New Year is a widely celebrated annual event amongst the varied Chinese communities spread across much of Asia. The event usually falls in January or February based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
Bangkok has a significant population of Chinese and Chinese descendants. Although the Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, most of the country assumes a festive atmosphere and it is an event celebrated by all. There are official performances and activities that centre around the New Year as well. The scene for much of these activities is the celebrated Chinatown also known as Yaowaraj.
As with most things related to Chinese festivals, myths play an important role. A long standing myth tells the story of a beast named Nien who would visit the villages and plunder and destroy them. Each year the villagers lived in fear of this beast who visited them annually. One year a small child happened to be outside the house when the beast visited. However on seeing her, the beast was terrified and ran away never to be seen again.chinese new year celebrations in bangkok

Some Information About Lakes You Never Knew 9 Posted By: Sabina Kucz

Only one world other than Earth is known to harbour lakes, Saturn's largest moon, Titan. Jupiter's small moon Io is volcanically active due to tidal stresses, and as a result sulphur deposits have accumulated on the surface. Some photographs taken during the Galileo mission appear to show lakes of liquid sulphur on the surface.

There are dark basaltic plains on the Moon, similar to lunar maria but smaller, that are called lacus (singular lacus, Latin for "lake") because they were thought by early astronomers to be lakes of water .Lake Michigan Huron is the largest lake by surface area. It also has the longest lake coastline in the world. 8,790 km. If Huron and Michigan are considered two lakes, Lake Superior is the largest lake. However, Huron still has the longest coastline at 6,157 km (2980 km excluding the coastlines of its many inner islands). The world's smallest geological ocean, the Caspian Sea, at 394,299 km squared has a surface area greater than the six largest freshwater lakes combined, and it's frequently cited as the world's largest lake.

The deepest lake is Lake Baikal in Siberia, with a bottom at 1,637 m.Holiday Cottages Lake District Cottages Lake District

Nyepi: Balinese New Year ' Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

In Bali, the old year is sent off with a bang and the new year is ushered in with hardly a whisper. According to the Balinese saka calendar, the Lunar New Year occurs on the first new moon which falls after mid-March. However, actual preparations for the festival start at least three days prior to the New Year. Statues of various deities are removed from their temples and are taken to rivers where they are washed and cleaned, before they are returned back to their respective temples. The day before the New Year, which is known as Tawur Agung Kesanga, is a flurry of activity. Also known as the 'Day of Great Sacrifices', it is a time when tourists will get a chance to witness many ceremonies and processions.

On this day, locals garbed in traditional outfits gather at town squares in the evening to play music and offer flowers and food to the ogoh-ogoh (ogoh-ogoh are giant monster dolls, complete with hideous faces and horrific fingers). This is followed by ngrupuk, a ceremonial procession where the monster dolls are carried on bamboo poles and paraded through the streets to frighten away evil spirits.Bali Hotel Bali Resort Nyepi: Balinese New Year
