Get Close To Nature At Udawalawe National Park Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

Udawalawe National Park is considered to be the third most visited national park in Sri Lanka and it is located between the Uva and Sabaragamuwa Districts of the country and thus can be found more towards the Southern part of the island. It is a popular tourist destination and is visited not only by foreigners but also by a large number of local wildlife and nature enthusiasts.

The reserve was established in 1972 as a sanctuary for wild animals, who were displaced during the building of the Udawalawe reservoir. Over the years the farmers cultivating in the area have been gradually removed and provided with alternative areas for farming.

The national park is perhaps the most popular spot in the country to go elephant watching as there are a large number of pachyderms who have made this place their home. For wildlife enthusiasts, it is a perfect place to go watching not just for elephants but also a wide range of birds such as cormorants, painted storks, Sri Lankan hornbills, Sri Lanka jungle fowls, red faced malkohas and a variety of species that are both endemic and migrant.udawalawe national park sri lanka elephant safaris

A Memorable Ride Along The Bentota River Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

Bentota River is located in the Sothern part of Sri Lanka and is an unmistakable landmark for anyone travelling towards the south of the island in search of sun, sand and surf. The waterway is well known amongst both locals and tourists for the many boat safaris that can be enjoyed here. Boat rides along Bentota River are a popular activity amongst not just the locals but also tourists who are fond of nature and experiencing the unspoilt beauty that surrounds the area.

Boat rides commence close to the estuary and lead upstream towards the inland areas. Visitors are sure to spot birds of varying coloured plumage, an odd monkey here and there, giant squirrels on the trees along the river banks and if you are lucky, a crocodile or two or even monitor lizards. The boat trips take travellers through thick mangrove forests. There are also many flowering trees and unique plants to be seen along the way.

In some areas of the river there are also prawn traps and in the evenings these are lit up with candle light in order to attract the prawns and provide a fascinating sight to behold.bentota river bentota attractions

Ratgama Lake ' Posted By: Pushpitha Wijesinghe

Ratgama Lake is a large salt water lagoon in Dodanduwa, Sri Lanka, located roughly two kilometres inland from the coast. The lake is known for its large population of aquatic birds, and even houses a sizeable population of water monitors and mongooses. Bird lovers will enjoy visiting Ratgama Lake and trying to spot the various species of avian fauna. One will be able to find egrets, cormorants, and night heron. While there are a few kite surfing spots in the area, they are not as popular as ones found at places such as Unawatuna beach or Ambalangoda beach.

There are three islands situated in the lagoon. Of the three, Polgasduwa is the most popular. The island contains a large Buddhist monastery. Shrouded in jungle, the monastery was founded in 1911 by the Venerable Nyanatiloka Mahathera. It is a place where monks can meditate and study. Due to its location, the islands can be quite warm and humid. Those interested can make a trip around the lagoon on a traditional Sri Lankan catamaran.Ratgama Lake Hikkaduwa Hotel Beach Hotels in Sri Lanka

Whether you are traveling to Atlanta for the first time, you are going to a business meeting, or you have friends or family in the region, there are lots of attractions that you should make time to see if at all possible. There are a number of Atlanta attractions that interest families, to senior adults, or anyone who would wish to take time to learn more about this vibrant, growing city.

Attractions in Atlanta highlight the city's vivid and appealing history, its place in business and communications lore, highlight its fine art and its natural beauty, and commemorate its heritage. Whether you prefer the animals at Zoo Atlanta or the underwater wildlife of the Georgia Aquarium, the world of Coca-Cola or the CNN Studios, or the Museum of Art or the Museum of Natural History, there is something you'll find to enjoy in Atlanta.

At the top of the list of things to do in Atlanta Georgia is The Georgia Aquarium. It is the earth's biggest aquarium.things to do in atlanta georgia the georgia aquarium

The Northern Blue Tongued Skink Care Sheet Posted By: gregory m Russell

Family and Scientific name:
Scincidae; Tiliqua intermedia

Identifying Features:
They are the largest of the blue tongues, heavy bodied with keeled scales, dark crossbands, often pink to orange colouring on its sides and no ocular stripes. They have a triangular shaped head and long bodies.

Range and Origin:
Northern regions of Australia, found in the grasslands / woodlands. Some are domestically bred, but many are imported for the pet trade from New Guinea breeding farms. I would highly advise people to purchase a captive bred BTS. There is much better chance of getting a healthy, handleable reptile pet. Of course after getting one a reptile vet check up is in order. Including a fecal check for parasites.

Adult size:
They can grow to about 24 inches long.

Life Span:
More than 20 years.

Habitat:
Bigger is always better. A glass Critter cage with a sliding screen locking lid, 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 12 inches tall is acceptable.
Provide a nice big water dish, preferably ceramic, they like to move things around spilling the water.

Substrates:
Variable, as long as the substrate is not wet.Northern Blue Tongued skink Care Sheet

6 Places In Your Home That Attract Pests Posted By: Steve Leidinger

Pests can make your home a living hell if you don't take preventive measures against them. From securing your house, to spraying pesticides you must eliminate all forms of bug habitat in the house. Your main goal should be home pest control which will ensure that your house is clean and safe from diseases and infestations. Here are six places of your house that should be cared for most.

1. The Kitchen Area

The place where you prepare food throughout the day is and could be one of the most infested places in your house. Make sure all drains are covered tightly and fix any loose tiles or covers. Give your kitchen drain a weekly cleansing with chemicals that would prevent grease accumulation and keep the area clean. Spray all dark nooks and corners with pesticide twice or thrice a month. Keep all food particles covered or stored in an air tight shelf. If you don't take care of your kitchen, it can end up being an ideal place for cockroaches.

2. The Attic

This is one of the most favorite spots of rodents, roaches and bugs.Pest control service Charleston SC Pest control service SC

What You Need To Know About Ticks Posted By: Steve Lum

The most frequent questions about ticks that pest control companies are asked is how to identify them. When ticks are found after they have bitten someone or something, they can appear quite different than what they would when lying on the ground. When crawling, ticks will typically appear brown or black with a pattern on their tear-shaped bodies. They are wider than they are thick. While they are large enough to be spotted without magnification they are still quite small - smaller than an apple seed. After biting though, they become engorged with blood rather quickly. At this point, they may appear white or silvery and round. However, males do not grow as much in size when engorged, as compared to the females of the species.

The problematic parasites begin as eggs, which are formed during mating. This will generally occur while the male and female are on the body of the host animal. The female will let go long enough to deposit her eggs elsewhere. A single female can lay up to ten thousand eggs or more at once.

After hatching, the larvae must find a host.pest control companies Lyme disease Slug A Bug

I Love Fishing Posted By: Ed Young Jr

Now most of you if you hang around here very much know that I love to fish. I am into it. A year ago I was fishing with a friend of mine in a little lake which had, nonetheless, some very big bass. Before I went to the lake I went to a tackle shop and bought some plastic lizards. I had to buy these specific lizards because they were called lizards of Uncle Ed. I had never fished with an Uncle Ed before, but I hooked him up. We were floating by a dock and I cast Uncle Ed in that direction. I watched him sink in the coffee black water. Then I saw that little jump in the line and I said to myself, We have got some action. The line kind of moved off to the left and I reeled down and set the hook. It felt like I had hooked a tractor trailer truck. I saw the line slowly rise and to my disbelief a bass jumped out of the water with Uncle Ed embedded in her lips.
