Emergency And Disaster Planning And Management Posted By: datahome

Emergency management is the strategic organizational processes of countering the occurrence or the impacts of hazard risks which are potential of causing catastrophes or disasters on assets. In this case, assets are categorized as economic, cultural, non-living as well as living things. The human society is prone to a wide variety of hazards which are either human-made or natural. It is of great importance to note that, hazards of any nature, either natural or man made, small or huge leads to significant destruction on human wellbeing as well as destruction of property. Some of the hazards like floods, world fires, earthquakes, and train cracks among other accidents lead to severe damages. Visit for more disaster planning

Carter (1992) indicated that emergency management is a strategic process that resides in the executive level of an organization, rather than being a tactical process. In this case, the concept of emergence management entails all process of ensuring integration of emergency plans as well as coordinating all
functions of organizations towards realization of a common goal. With regard to the ideas of Carter (1992), emergency management entails the combination of the efforts of all levels of an organization in realization of the common goals.disaster planning emergency kit survival gear sSurvival k

All About Slurry Walls And Biopolymer Trenches Posted By: William Hauselberg

Slurry walls have been used for decades to impede groundwater flow and to prevent earthen walls from collapsing during the excavation of building foundations and underground structures. More recently, slurry walls and trenches have been used to stabilize dams and levees. They're also used to contain contaminated ground water at designated Superfund sites and landfills, and to stabilize and protect water treatment systems. In all of these examples, slurry walls are used to either divert or impede groundwater flow and contamination.

How Slurry Walls Are Constructed

The first step in building a slurry barrier wall is to create a shallow trench using digging rigs. This trench is then back-filled with a liquid or slurry that temporarily provides support for the trench walls so that they do not collapse. Once the shallow trench has been filled with slurry, the excavation of additional earth can continue and more slurry is then added as needed. When the desired depth is achieved, cement is pumped into the bottom of the trench. This displaces the slurry mixture, which is pumped out and reused as needed.biopolymer mixer biopolymer

Being Prepared As A Family Posted By: Destry Masterson

Remember hurricane Katrina, well according to a report done by American Society of Civil Engineering, some of the flood gates that made up the levees protecting New Orleans were not even closed and 53 of them broke due to multiple failures. So in summation basically all of New Orleans was unprepared.

Not to say they deserved anything that happened to them, but you got to wonder, if they had been less hung-over from all that Mardi Gras they may have been a little more capable of dealing with a stage five hurricane blasting through their city. Then again maybe hurricanes are going to destroy city flood gates no matter what, and instead of saying it is the city's fault for not being prepared you may have to say it was the individuals' fault.

Yes each and every tarot reader, psychic, or voodooist that spent the months before telling tourists that they need to watch out because a storm was coming should have looked in the mirror for a second to give themselves a reading. All though, a word of advice, performing voodoo in a mirror can cause some pretty harmful reflexive magic with severe consequences, so probably, don't do that.Preparedness foods health

The American Dream Of New Homes And Good Living Posted By: Andrew Stratton

Like every person who believes in the American Dream of freshly painted, white-picket fenced yards, shiny automobiles, and swimming pools, we all have some notion for what it might mean to have the best of all possible lives. There's no doubting that new homes have become the symbol of what it means to be fully immersed in the status game, with everyone seeking their own version for success and healthy living. Just the smell of new homes, with their recently laid carpets and perfectly coiffed lawns, is enough to give a person the feeling of comfort and security. Think of the misfortune for what it means to be homeless, and the flipside of that coin would be the fortunate few who have an opportunity to build or purchase a house that has never been occupied. What a great place to begin your life, with the pleasurable comforts and amenities of a uniquely designed and freshly occupied residence, all perfect for the individual who needs, wants, and deserves the best out of life.huntsville new homes

Impacts Of A Switchgear Posted By: mariasandstone

It is not everyday that a person sits inside their home and looks around and everything they own that operates off of an electric outlet. In that way, it is also not every day that once contemplates the way in which these devices are controlled. That is to say, no one exactly wonders how much of our electricity is powered by a single source. One may consult their fuse box from time to time, but they do not think about where their city's fuse box lies, even though that is the true source of energy their house runs from. And without that city power, without that switchgear, there's no telling what could happen.

A switchgear is nothing more and nothing less than an extremely sophisticated electricity grid, which is used to united a series of fuses and breakers for the better.

There are many reasons why having such a system at your hands is important, and it all begins with a simple idea of convenience.

Instead, when one debates the power of a cityscape, they may think about just the larger buildings at hand. Although, they would be mistaken to do so.switchgear electricity engineering

Inundation Defense: The Answer To Your Deluge Necessities? Posted By: Laura Meneses

When soil can no longer contain floodwater, inundation occur. If you should experience repeated deluges, you should install deluge coverings to avoid damages to your properties and maybe your existence. This can be simply made if you have sufficient funds to start the plan.

Rehabilitating and cleaning the drainage systems in urban areas can be one remedy. It is not an easy job though as you will be dealing with solid wastes and debris to clean up. But once you have done this job, you are certainly assured that water will flow easily into the canals; thus preventing the occurrences of floods.

Waterbeds are typically inclined to alluvions so you can set-up sandbags for added protection. However, the bags must be packed with tons of sands and gravel that takes time. And you will want more workers to install the sandbags near waterbed surface. But these sandbags may never be adequate to absorb floodwaters. As water can leak through the sandbags, there is still the possibility of deluges.

There are a few who want to construct dikes and levees. You will need to search for sufficient funds to purchase solid materials and construct these framework.flood protection

What Is The Role Of An Architect During A City Planning Project? Posted By: Stewart Wrighter

No matter whether a person is an architect or works in any city in the country, he will play an important role when it comes to city planning projects. Architects work with other people involved in city planning to ensure things are efficient, safe and structurally sound. Engineering and architecture jobs are usually in high demand. This is because cities are making the transition from standard buildings and facilities to green buildings and facilities. There are also a lot of efforts being made to renew urban spaces and increase the efficiency of the existing amount of space. It is the job of the architectural expert to plan, design and oversee how much of these projects are handled. They are responsible for aspects concerning the landscape, the road routing and the structures and buildings.

Many of the buildings in the city are intended to house a lot of people or businesses. They also must be attractive, safe for public use, functional and energy efficient. This is a tall order, even for the most experienced architectural specialist. It is possible to plan a building that is each of these things.Cincinnati architects Cincinnati architect

Using Burlap Bags For Your Coffee Cellar Posted By: Morgan Perry

For food romantics, coffee cellar has a fine ring to it. It resonates with the same combined pleasure of connoisseurship and security that motivates people to keep piles of dusty wine bottles piled deep in the hearts of their houses.
Correct storage for green coffees is cool but not cold, dark, dry, and, above all, well vented. Rather than cellar, think pantry. The storage cupboards in the kitchens of older houses, the kind that allow air to circulate among the shelves, represent an ideal situation in which to store green coffee.
Good, high-grown green coffees (Central American, Colombian, East African) kept in such conditions will change very little over two or three years. For the first year or so they will round and sweeten in tone, than become fuller in body but gradually lose brightness and acidity.
Lower-grown, gentler coffees may change in flavor rather drastically. Brazilian Santos, for example, may begin to lose acidity as soon as six months after harvest and after a year or so often develops an additional flat, mildew taste professional cuppers call baggy.
In what kind of container should you store your coffee?Coffee Cellar coffee pantry green coffee beans <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/roasting+coffee

How The Tsunami In Japan And World War 2 Affected Currency Markets And World Business Part 1 Posted By: David Slacozzi

Since early March a lot of the worlds focus has been on the cataclysmic earthquake, tsunami and subsequent radioactive fallout in Japan and the tragic unrest in the Middle East and North Africa. While both here at home and abroad, economists are struggling to predict the tumultuous effects on economies and the future track of business, currencies and investments. Even though it's not an exact comparison there are many similarities between current events and those occurring during and after World War 2. Perhaps if we look at how economies reacted to similar events in the past we can determine where the future will lead.

First there are undeniable environmental and political similarities between now and the conditions that existed more than 60 years ago. The massive tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th caused a massive loss of human life and also destroyed much of the Japan's infrastructure including damaging coolant pumps and causing explosions at various nuclear power plants. The damage to the power plants has contaminated surrounding water systems and nearby food sources with radiation 100,000 times above normal levels.economy tsunami Japan forex World War II forex markets.yen

What Is Soil Liquefaction? Mitigation By Deep Soil Mixing Method Posted By: William Hauselberg

What is Soil Liquefaction?

When soil is stressed, it can liquefy, losing its stability and strength. The stress can be caused by extreme force such as an earthquake, or the introduction of too much water to the ground. The resulting soil liquefaction can occur, destabilizing the ground. Different types of soils react differently to stress, for example, soil that is mostly sand can liquefy faster than clay soils.

Liquefaction wreaks havoc on built structures. Foundations can crack and an uneven settling of the building can occur. Damage to the structure itself can occur, as well as complete destruction in severe liquefaction instances. Bridges are affected because the foundation around support posts becomes liquefied. Any sloping ground near water sources, dams and levees tend to liquefy more often, creating fissures and cracks in the ground and in structures. Deep soil mixing methods are used to improve shear strength to improve stability.

Soil Mitigation by Deep Soil Mixing Method

There are different soil treatment technologies available to remedy soil liquefaction. One of the more common treatments is the Deep Soil Mixing Method. Deep soil mixing was begun in Japan and has been developed over many years by engineers and geologists.soil liquefaction Soil liquefaction mitigation

The Search For The Ivory-billed Woodpecker Posted By: John Moxly

Few birds are as steeped in mysticism and controversy as the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The largest bird species in North America, with a length of 20 inches and a wingspan of 30 inches, this woodpecker was thought to have been extinct as early as the 1950s.

However, like an avian Elvis, the Ivory-billed Woodpecker has been allegedly sighted by a number of individuals, including highly-qualified ornithologists. For this reason, the jury is still out on whether or not this magnificent bird still haunts the swamps of the American Southeast.

History of the Ivory-billed woodpecker

The Ivory-billed woodpecker is renowned for its size and exotic appearance and has been nicknamed 'Lord God Bird,' 'Grail Bird' and 'King of Woodpeckers.' Native-Americans valued its bright plumage and large bills, often using the later to transport medicinal bundles; some of these bills were traded as far north as Canada.

Early naturalists and explorers, such as James Audubon and John Abbot ,were entranced by the bird, with Audubon comparing its plumage to a painting by the seventeenth-century Flemish painter Anthony Vandyke. Author William Faulkner referred to the bird in his 1943 short story 'The Bear,' as a symbol of the primordial southern swamp.ivory-billed woodpecker

Water Damage Houston ' Posted By: Robert Llorente

Hurricanes generated in the Atlantic are known to wreak collateral damage in Texas, including Houston. This makes an array of corrective steps, structural as well as non-structural, imperative. Proper approach to the problem would minimize the damage. At the same time, restoration will need to be dealt with at a business or even on a personal level.

Houston is prone to hurricanes forming in the Atlantic Ocean. These massive tropical cyclones can wreak havoc in the region. Experts at several Texas universities are advising that even a moderate hurricane could endanger millions and debilitate the Houston Ship Channel, which is home to about one-quarter of U.S. Refineries. Such a scenario makes it imperative that the region be made more resilient to fierce cyclonic storms.

A study commissioned by Rice University-based Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters Center (SSPEED) in 2009 indicates that

* Prevailing dikes and levees along the Houston Ship Channel are not sturdy enough to protect all refineries from the impact of a powerful storm. A hurricane within a major city in its line would be devastating.
