General Position In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Posted By: Paul Halme

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a ground fighting martial art that emphasizes the use of diverse submissions, sweeps, attacks and defenses from definite positions. The positions discussed in this article are exceptionally accepted in the BJJ and MMA worlds and should be focused on by all practitioners. It is very essential to be relaxed both on top, and on the bottom of all of these positions and have a few techniques that can be applied to either hit your challenger with a choke or submission, or switch your place to a good turn for yourself. Either way, these positions are basic in BJJ and should become very familiar when you do advancement through your BJJ training.

Side Control/Cross-body
Once the top play effectively passes the security of his/her opponent and the player on the bottom has no control of the top player's body they are in side control. Side control is one the top player is controlling the upper body of his/her challenger and their bodies are perpendicular to each other. This is a dominant position for the top player and can work for several submissions and chokes such as a kimura, arm bar, and head arm choke.brazilian jiu jitsu MMA BJJ Muay Thai Kids Martial Arts

All About Jujitsu Kimonos Posted By: Max Plank

Equipment is carefully considered by present day martial artists, just like the warriors of the older days used to do: their life depended on it. The jujitsu kimono of today is as important to its owner as armor was to the ancient warriors. These kimonos are highly important for people who perform this martial art as it requires better flexibility and agility. A wide range of manufacturers and vendors are now vying for the attention of the jiu jitsu Practitioners. Both men and women in ancient Japan used to wear two-piece outfits that consisted of tops that resembled jackets and short pants. The sophisticated outfit of today is a modern adaptation of the ancient dresses.

The jujitsu kimonos are usually available with a top along with a pair of pants. The top of the uniform is also known as a "gi" jacket and is the main component of the entire jiu jitsu outfit. These dresses are strictly made for the practitioners of jiu jitsu. They are more durable and heavier than the costumes used in other martial arts. The weight of these kimonos ranges between two to seven pounds.riofightwear jiujitsu gi jiujitsu kimono bjj gi brazilian kimono jiu-jitsu kimonos riofightwear kimonos keiko raca kimonos gold weave single

That's why it's critical to train hard, but also be clever when doing it. You want to make sure that you are targeting the right things and not leaving anything out. To help you train in the most productive way possible, keep the following suggestions in mind.

When you train for mixed martial arts, it's very important to do workouts that focus on your core. This is where a lot of your power comes from, whether it's punching, kicking, throws or ground fighting. Don't forget about the other core exercises for strength training while you are continuing your situps and back extensions also think about those that could also help you. One very helpful tool for core training is the medicine ball. This is a weighted ball that you can do many different exercises with. One such exercise you can try with the medicine ball is simply a back and forth game of catch with a partner.
Training In Mixed Martial Posted By: Amit

Training in mixed martial arts gives you a full cardio work out. You can expect to greatly increase your strength and stamina and improve your hand eye coordination. Mixed martial arts training is a great way to exercise and strengthen your body and mind. Get started with a training program today and begin feeling and looking better! Training for mixed martial arts will have an impact on your levels of strength, flexibility, stamina, and endurance. Apart from this it will provide you with the ability to defend yourself. This can be very useful in today's world. You might find yourself wondering about where MMA originated. Mixed martial arts were first exhibited in ancient Greece. There were few rules there that were imposed on the people who participated in fighting. Most combat sports focus on only one or the other and are quite limited in what types of attacks are allowed. For example, wrestling allows takedowns and pins, but no submissions. Boxing allows legal punches, but prohibits kicks, knees or elbows. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is originally from Japan and is a Mixed Martial Art that spotlights grappling and ground fighting. This form allows the weaker opponent to overcome the larger opponent.Muay Thai kickboxing Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

What Is Combatives: Part 1 Posted By: Matthew McKernan

What is Combatives? A Brief Study of Hand to Hand Combat, Self Defense, Mixed Martial Arts and Beyond

The root word COMBAT - "to fight in direct contact," "active fighting between enemies," "any fight or struggle".

There are no specific country origins or techniques to define Close Combat, Self Defense, and Hand to Hand maneuvers. Based on historical fact and my 30 plus years experience in training, teaching, and understanding self defense, I present the following.

"The Roots of Close Combat, Self Defense, and Mixed Martial Arts"

There are comprehensive surveys and presentations of armed and unarmed combat. You will find a vast array of skills that deploy a diverse mix of "techniques." One truth remains; where people exist, there is a need for defense against aggression. Every culture has its own form of close combat, both traditional and unconventional, yet all have striking similarities.

In Ancient Greece, Pankration was a combined system of "all powers" combat, the equivalent of what is globally known today as Mixed Martial Arts.

The Samurai original fighting systems, Koryu Bujutsu, included a comprehensive catalog of both armed and unarmed skills.martial arts self defense

What Is Combatives: Part 2 Posted By: Matthew McKernan

The Battle of Britain began in early July, 1940. England was isolated in a war against the axis of evil. The miracle retreat from Dunkirk and the German "Blitzkrieg" across Europe, including the crushing tactical defeat of the famed French "Maginot Line" proved the Third Reich war machine to be virtually unstoppable. Hitler's plan for the invasion of England, named "Operation Sea Lion" was a daily focal point of danger and concern for the British.

Dunkirk had decimated the British forces and moral was at an all time low. Two recently returned veterans of British colonial rule in Shanghai, China approached the War Office and offered their services at this desperate time. William Ewart Fairbairn, retired as a ranking officer of the Shanghai Municipal Police and his partner Eric Anthony Sykes, a private arms dealer who served as a volunteer in the Shanghai Municipal Police and headed the sniper unit of the famed Shanghai Riot Squad, promised the War Office that their training and methods could in short order, make "any one man the equal of ten."

After the debacle at Dunkirk this was a most important and dramatic statement.martial arts self defense

Where To Learn Self Defense Posted By: Jared Lil

Martial arts dojo's in good standing with the community, offer self-defense classes in Boston to individuals wanting a realistic program that helps the new student mentally and physically grow in personal self defense skills.

Proper self defense is about a strong mind filled with self respect, a conditioned body that will just react when put in a bad situation, and a survival spirit from self confidence. From the beginning, the martial arts schools figured out that practitioners needed to train techniques and self awareness as one during the training sessions. They new a weak mind would disable and hinder the results from training and make everything they worked so hard for a waste of time.

You have the right to prevent other individuals from attacking or doing bodily harm to you. You must understand that difference between protecting yourself and becoming the aggressor. Self defense is all about protecting oneself and finding a path of escape from a bad situation.

Benefits Gained

Everyone understands that training Boston self defense will help you protect yourself from getting hurt, but there are many other hidden benefits that come along with self defense training.Boston self defense

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Beginning Posted By: Travis Lutter

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be classified alongside the sports of Judo and Taekwondo, being a martial art and combat sport. As well as being used for the art of self defense, it is great in character building in the young person, giving them a focus and aim in life.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is said to have come about due to a large immigrant population of Japanese in Brazil, its' invention being a relatively new one, in the twentieth century. It is derived form the Japanese martial art of Judo, and although is very similar in many aspects, ranking being gained by stripes and bjj belts, it sets itself aside from Judo by being a sport that is more focused on ground fighting.

The main focus of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the capability to grapple your opponent to the ground, locking them into a position from which they are unable to move, regardless of the weight of the opponents.

The Jiu Jitsu Gi is the formal uniform used when training and fighting Ju Jitsu. Again, it is very similar to that of Judo, but the legs and arms are slightly less loose.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Training Equipment For Mma Posted By: Travis Lutter

Just like football, baseball, and basketball, the sport of MMA is a combat sport and has it's own specific equipment for effectiveness and safety.

The main purpose of MMA gear and equipment is to provide safety for the fighter who is training. This article will cover both the essential MMA equipment as well as the optional MMA equipment you need to get before you start your training.
Essential MMA Equipment

MMA Training gloves: There is a difference between MMA fighting gloves and training gloves. Training gloves have more protection and foam to protect the knuckles and wrists.

Mouthpiece: No fighter should ever get into the ring or octagon without a mouthpiece. This piece of equipment should be required for any type of contact.

Groin Protection: This is very important for the men who are getting into the ring or octagon. You can pickup this up your local sports store.

MMA Headgear: The head gear for Mixed Martial Arts is different than the headgear for sparring head gear for Taekwondo. So, make sure you purchase headgear specifically made for mixed martial arts.
MMA Fighting Gloves:

Most MMA organization typically require between 4oz. and 6oz. MMA gloves.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense

The Differences Of Mma And Karate Posted By: Travis Lutter

I am talking about the differences between the sports MMA and karate.

I have been doing MMA for about a year. It has become my favorite sport, and I think it has a lot of differences from karate. In MMA you learn a variety of techniques. You learn both strikes and how to grapple on the ground. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. It is called this because you use element from Jujitsu, Kick Boxing, Wrestling, Karate, and Taekwondo. Each of these types of combat has their own strengths.
In MMA you try to leverage the best from all of them.

I used to do Taekwondo, but I don't remember much, and I don't think it really helped me with my grappling. Karate means empty hand. I personally think MMA is more useful because I don't know where you could use those karate moves in a fight because if you tried to punch, then somebody would quickly take you down. I think Karate is more like dancing and performing open forms then training for real combat.
I still have respect for people that prefer this kind of sport but think it is much less practical than MMA.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense
