Helpful Pointers On Moy Lin-shin - T'ai Chi Innovator, Teacher And Visionary Posted By: Stewart McFarlane

Master Moy Lin-shin is certainly best recognised in the west as being the founding father of The International Taoist T'ai Chi Society in Montreal, Canada.

He created this prospering group after a long period of teaching as well as spreading far and wide the concepts of Taoism and its traditions.

Legend has it that matters failed to start out too well for this young Lin-shin, because he encountered times of ill-health as a child being raised inside China.

The truth is, matters got so awful; he ended up being sent off to the monastery to recuperate. Whilst there, he was in fact schooled in the philosophies of the Earlier Heaven Wu-chi sect from the Hua Shan School of Taoism. During this period, he even learnt the Yang Style T'ai Chi and other martial arts.

Then, prior to the Communist Revolution of 1949, he decided to relocate to Hong Kong, the place where he joined the Yuen Yuen Institute and became a Taoist monk.

The Yuen Yuen Institution was set up during 1950 and has always been dedicated to the study of Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism.master moy moy lin shin

Yang Tai Chi Chuan And The Five Rules Of Making An Energy Body Posted By: Al Case

Tai Chi Chuan constructs a different body that is called an energy body. This is true for Yang Tai Chi Chuan, Chen Tai Chi Chuan, or whatever type of internal art you study. This is assuming you are following a set of rules having to do with the energy anatomy.

First, of course, one must sink the body weight. But, really, it is not just sinking; you must close your eyes and course your awareness down through the feet. This will enable you to connect a tractor beam to the planet.

Second, you must shift the weight, then turn the hips. This is the practice of doing one thing at a time, and therefore focusing all your energies on one thing at a time. This will ensure that you are not split in your intentions.

Third, you must hold unbendable arms throughout all postures. There will be a slight in and out of the arms, a slight wave of the arms, which will pulse energy. Unbendable arms require and build on pure energy.

Fourth thing to do, you must pulse not just the arms, but the whole body.yang tai chi chuan yang style chen style chi body chi energy

Four Significant Masters Who Founded Tai Chi Chuan Posted By: Al Case

The Lineage of the various Tai Chi Chuan systems is sometime murky, sometimes easily traced. What is of high interest, however, is the way Tai Chi Chuan is modified by each generation. One would think that the principles rule, and nothing should ever change, but change is the only constant in this universe.

Mythically, Tai Chi Chuan was invented by a Zhang Sanfeng in the twelfth century. This is probably not true, as history does not support his existence in connection with Tai Chi. He is first mentioned in connection with the martial arts in the 17th century.

Chances are, Tai Chi was probably created in Chen village. Chen Wangting was a retired general after the Ming Dynasty fell, and he is credited with creating the Grand Ultimate Art for the youngsters of the village. Chen village exists to this day, and the idea that an old general would create a slow method for continuing his training in the fighting disciplines rings true.

Yang Lu Chan visited Chen village, and the story goes that he observed the Chen family training in secret, then came forth to save the Chen family during a challenge.tai chi chuan power tai chi chuan chi power chi power

When It Comes To A Martial Arts Bible Several Books Have To Be Considered Posted By: Al Case

I see advertisements for a Martial Arts Bible every once in a while, and it's a clever advertisement. I mean, the idea for a book that answers all questions, it's a good one, and it's necessary. Here are a list of books which I think need to be considered, with the last one really hitting the button.

The first book to be considered would be Karate Do Kyohan: The Master Text, by Gichin Funakoshi. The reason this book has to be considered is because it was the first to really offer a comprehensive look at the eastern fighting disciplines. Of course, it is slanted towards Karate, and it offers techniques and forms without real explanation, but it is a good book.

The next book to hit the shores with impact was the George Mattson book on Uechi Ryu. This was huge, offered hows and whys, and even went into some of the legends and real possibilities of the arts. While it was of more depth than Funakoshi's epic, it didn't cover grappling or throwing in much detail.gichin funakoshi the master text karate do kyohan karate bo

What Lies At The End Of The True Path Of The Martial Arts Posted By: Al Case

There are actually three steps when it comes to the evolution of man. These steps are cut and dried, but are unrecognizable in todays martial arts. When you Matrix the martial arts, however, even specific arts, like karate or kung fu, then your evolutionary path opens up before you.

The first step is nothing more than learning how to survive. We are born, and our parents help us and educate us, but at some point we all must enter into the struggle for survival. Making a living, finding out what we really want to do, surviving.

Interestingly, many of our early conflicts have to do with our fellow man. It is not just the struggle for survival of the body, but how to get along with a mankind which, lets face it, is two pygmies short a tribe. If we survive these early conflicts, however, if we do not jump off a cliff or hang ourselves, then we become sane, though this is a relative condition.

Sanity is the second step, and it is marked by the fact that we realize that we are not alone.tai chi karate hsing i ninjitsu kyokushinkai techniques

Matrixing Internal Karate To Build The Most Powerful Punch! Posted By: Al Case

Using methods developed through Matrix Karate, it is possible to generate intrinsic energy literally within days. The actual physics of the matter, the exact technology, is very easy to describe. Of course, there are a couple of things that the student should be wary of.

I'm going to start with the warnings for the simple reason that I don't wish to cause damage to anybody. I found that it was very easy for over exuberant students to hurt the shoulder when developing power in their punches. This destruction of the rotator cuff and associated elements by looking to classical martial arts.

When somebody throws a punch and lets the arm bang against the confines of proper shoulder construction the tendons and ligaments finally give way. If you practice holding the shoulder back, however, as in classical karate, the structure remains intact and is not damaged. I recommend that you search for classical movements which do not hurt the body, but which utilize the whole body (turning the whole body into the motion).

Also, I discovered that as the power builds it is possible to give oneself whiplash.tai chi karate hsing i ninjitsu kyokushinkai techniques

How Instructors Can Improve Their Martial Arts Abilities! Posted By: Al Case

One of the most shocking things in the martial arts is how instructors stop their own training. By this I mean, after a somebody opens up his own school, they never get any more instruction for themselves. The idea that they hold to is that they know everything, and all they have to do now is polish it, perfect it, and time will be their teacher.

This concept, of course, is ridiculous. Yes, time will make a person better, but what will improve a person faster is getting more data. Imagine a computer which never inputs any further data and my case becomes obvious.

So you need more data if you are going to get better, and you need to make mental connections with other arts. For instance, if you've got a black belt in Karate, a course in Aikido is going to open your mind up. At the end of every karate technique, once you understand what Aikido really is, you can make additional techniques.

And, if you've got some good hard Shaolin, the next step is exploring the internal schools of Wudan.tai chi chuan pa kua chang hsing i wudan shaolin chi

The Power Of Belief In Chi In The Martial Arts Posted By: Ken Gullette

Dr. Tom Morris received his Ph.D. in both Philosophy and Religious Studies from Yale University. For more than 15 years, he was a Professor of Philosophy at Notre Dame.

In one of his books, Philosophy for Dummies, he writes about the power of belief and tells the story of when he bought a gas grill. The Sears delivery crew wouldn't hook up the propane tank because of liability concerns. As Tom hooked it up, he held his breath so he wouldn't breathe any propane fumes. Every minute or so he would walk away and breathe fresh air, then he would return to the grill. He accidentally took a few breaths while at the grill and almost got sick from the powerful smell of propane. The fumes began making him light-headed and he began feeling sick, and even when he hooked the tank up, he could still smell the gas.

He called Sears to report the problem. They asked, "Where did you fill up the tank?" He hadn't filled up the tank, and didn't realize that Sears delivers a new grill with an empty propane tank.chi kung qigong no touch knockout no touch knockdown tai chi martial arts

The Power Of Tai Chi Is Physical, Not Mystical Posted By: Ken Gullette

I settled into a tai chi posture and prepared to do a punch for the man in front of me. It wasn't an ordinary man. Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang is a direct descendant of the creator of tai chi, and he can break an attacker in a heartbeat. He asked me to perform a punch from a Chen tai chi form, and I was preparing for the punch, trying not to be nervous.

Trying to remain relaxed, I shifted my weight from my right to my left leg and my right fist shot out, fast, relaxed, and powerful. At the same time, my left elbow thrust backward and my left hand stopped at my ribcage.

Grandmaster Chen was not impressed. He took my right hand in his left, my left hand in his right and told me to relax. Before I knew what was happening, he jerked the right hand out and pushed the left hand backward. I wasn't quite relaxed enough and almost suffered whiplash in my neck.

Relax, he told me again, and once again he jerked my arms -- hard -- forcing one to punch and the other to return to my ribcage.tai chi taiji tai chi chuan taijiquan Chen Xiaowang chen tai chi kungfu internal arts

Health And Self-defence - What Is Tai Chi? Posted By: Keira Benson

Tai Chi is always viewed as the soft option in the martial arts world in comparison to its harder counterparts like karate. Because it is favoured by the elderly and the less powerful, it is somehow considered a weaker style.

However, if you study Tai Chi to its full extent, then it becomes obvious that this is not the case.

So, What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi Chuan is a holistic martial art using internal energy ('Chi') for good health, self-development and self-defence.

The initial training focuses on relaxed, slow, flowing movement to assist in realising the soft power of internal energy. Its adaptability makes the study possible for people at all levels of health and fitness.

Shifting the weight constantly between the different moves helps to improve day-to-day balance and ease of bodily movement.

Tai Chi increases oxygen uptake, reduces blood pressure, slows the decline in cardiovascular power and increases bone density.

Because it develops strength and flexibility within the joints, the practise can result in greater leg and knee mobility.

Heightened mood states and improved immune function are all direct results of the reduced stress levels that are achieved both during and after a Tai Chi class.tai chi in southend-on-sea tai chi self-defence in southend-on-sea martial arts in southend-on-sea tai chi for health and fitness tai chi in leigh-on-

Don't Be Fooled By Empty Promises Of Easy Tai Chi Posted By: Ken Gullette

The students in the tai chi workshop were standing in a posture, groaning and grunting and shaking as they waited for Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang to look at them. Leg muscles strained from fatigue. A few moments later during a break, a student commented to Grandmaster Chen that tai chi is every difficult.

If you've ever attended a workshop by a member of the Chen family, you understand why the comment would be made. Students hold postures while the instructor walks around the room, correcting each student individually. By the time he gets to you, your legs are often shaking with fatigue, and if he puts you into the correct posture, you may just collapse to the floor.

This is one of the reasons I get annoyed when I see ads that promise "easy tai chi." Those who have studied with the true masters can tell you that there is absolutely no such thing. Fake tai chi might be easy. The health type of tai chi for "moving meditation" might be easy. Tai Chi for senior citizens might be easy.

Real tai chi is a powerful martial art.tai chi taiji tai chi chuan taijiquan Chen Xiaowang chen tai chi kungfu internal arts

Why Your Tai Chi Skills Are So Weak Posted By: Steven Magill

There is an article on the Internet by a tai chi instructor based in Los Angeles. It outlines the 10 most important concepts you should remember when practicing Tai Chi. And it's the reason most Tai Chi being practiced in America is so weak.

The advice is typical of so many Tai Chi students and teachers that I've met who focus on the wrong things, thinking they're doing Tai Chi. They do this because their teacher taught them a weak version of this art. The result -- you meet their students and see quickly that they have no concept of body mechanics.

Here--briefly--is his list of top ten important things to focus on:

Concept 1: Tai Chi is done with an emphasis on every movement. Every movement must be connected to the next.

Concept 2: Maintain your shoulders dropped so that any tension will be eliminated.

Concept 3: Keep the wrists straight to maintain strength and a good flow of energy.

Concept 4: Learning to move ever more slowly is one path to increased cultivation.

Concept 5: Never let any hindrances stop you from being connected. In case you get disconnected, keep up with the motions.win your boyfriend back how to save a relationship get ex back get boyfriend back

Why Tai Chi In America Is So Weak Posted By: Ken Gullette

I recently read an article on the Internet by a Yang Tai Chi instructor. He outlines 10 important concepts you need to know when practicing this art. If you follow his advice, your Tai Chi will be very weak, just like most Tai Chi in America.

Every pattern must be connected with one another.

Concept 2: Maintain your shoulders dropped so that any tension will be eliminated.

Concept 3: Keep the wrists straight to maintain strength and a good flow of energy.

Concept 4: Learning to move ever more slowly is one path to increased cultivation.

The Secret Of How Real Internal Energy Works! Posted By: Al Case

One of the biggest mysteries of the martial arts is internal energy. Wudan arts, like Tai Chi Chuan and Pa Kua Chang and Hsing i claim it. Supposedly it takes lifetimes to build, but when you get it you can defeat attackers with just a sigh and a brush of the palm.

Well, the truth of the matter is that internal energy is in many arts, and if it is not, it can be put into any art easily. The principles of internal energy, you see, are easy to understand. So if you study kenpo or tae kwon do, or even boxing, then the door is hereby opened for you, this article is going to lay out those principles and shove you through the door.

The most important thing is that you have to have phenomenal basics, not just good, but absolutely phenomenal. What this means is that you must sink your body weight when striking or blocking, and do so with such awareness that you actually create a beam of energy down your leg.karate kung fu aikido tai chi chuan pa kua chang wudan

The Secret Of The Three Essentials Necessary To The Martial Arts Posted By: Al Case

In the martial arts, I don't care if it is mma, Pa Kua Chang, Shotokan, or whatever, there are three key ingredients. These three ingredients are what makes an art an art, and they are why people study the arts. Oddly, one of the ingredients is almost totally ignored.

One of the ingredients is the pursuit of strength. Muscle mags are filled with strength advertisements, and everybody obsesses on strength. Oddly, strength is the least important of the three essential techniques of the martial arts.

The most important of the three essentials is technique. Technique is measured by how little you have to work to make a move work. If you need a lot of strength in your move, then your technique is lacking.

The second most important essential to good martial arts, and the one most people are missing, deals with speed. Interestingly, at least in the beginning, speed is absolutely vital to make a technique work. Yet strength is what everybody obsesses about.

Yes, people try to get fast, a little bit, but it is an individual effort, and usually put aside in the pursuit of strength.martial arts instruction kang duk won tae kwon do kung fu

The Golden And Infinite Truth About Tai Chi Chuan Posted By: Al Case

The absolute truth of the martial art known as Tai Chi Chuan is easily seen in a symbol that nobody understands. If you read to the end of my words here you will understand that symbol, and it will enlighten your practice of the martial arts. I am speaking of that symbol of the grand terminus which we call yin yang.

The Yin Yang symbol is two fishes swimming is night and day is good and evil is...poppycock. The Yin Yang symbol has nothing to do with those poetic but truncated observations possible to our short lived species. The Ying Yang symbol is actually a quite mechanistic approach and empirical observation to our universe.

Everything in the universe can be defined as a motor. A motor can be understood as tension between two objects. Doesn't matter whether the tension lives as push or pull, just that the tension exists, and that is what holds our universe together and...pushes it apart.

An atom, with electron and proton, forever chasing and never catching, is a motor. A cell, with potassium and sodium bubbling their happy little lives away, is a motor.tai chi chuan pa kua chang hsing i wudan shaolin chi
