Dog Breed Profile: The Black And Tan Coonhound Posted By: Gary Walker

The Black and Tan Coonhound, is a distinctive, athletically built dog that excels at hunting and tracking.

These medium-sized dogs stand up to 27 inches at the withers and can weigh as much as 75 pounds. They have a black and tan coat and the appearance of a typical hound dog, with long, hanging ears, loose fitting skin and long legs.

The original Black and Tans were created by crossing Talbot Hounds, Foxhounds, and Bloodhounds. The idea was to create a dog for treeing racoons, but the Black and Tan proved such an able tracker that it was soon being used to hunt larger game, including deer, mountain lions, and even bear.

These are loyal, affectionate and good-natured dogs who form close bonds with humans. The are also intelligent and fast learners which makes them excellent pets for an appropriate owner.

You should be aware though that this dog has very high exercise needs and is likely to develop destructive behavioral problems if not exercised enough. This dog will do best with someone who spends a lot of time outdoors and is prepared to include the dog in lots of activities.dog breeds types of dogs

Eskdale Walk - Stanley Ghyll Posted By: Sally

Short, medium or long? Your choice on these fine circuits of middle Eskdale, with combinations of about one, two, or three hours. There are several holiday cottages in the lake district which would be an ideal base to enjoy this wonderful walk.

Start at Fisherground, and walk down the lane, straight across the road, through the left hand gate, across the field and over the swing bridge to Milkingstead, now owned by the National Trust as their maintenance outpost for the Western valleys. Turn left over the bridge, and set off up the river, following the lane. The path goes through the gate at the field entrance and across to the gate opposite, and then through the ruins of Red Brow farmstead and so on up the side of the river Esk. Judging from the stone foundations of one or two of the sections, and its position, this is almost certainly the remains of the Roman road down the valley from Hard Knott fort (Mediobogdum) to Ravenglass fort, bath-house and port.self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district

HUNTING THE RIGHT HOUND
---------------------------------------------------
A diverse group skilled in a number of disciplines, most working breeds are robust, intelligent and headstrong, often unsuitable for apprentice owners. In true mixed breeds, the dog's ancestry is next to impossible to predict, although many people can't help but try to guess. Because they're all related, all of the 400 or so breeds are capable of interbreeding. The American Kennel Club created this dog group to honour what is one of the oldest of dog professions:herding livestock. A retired racer should be tested with small children or other pets, as some of these dogs make a habit of chasing them as they have chased mechanical rabbits in their earlier career.dogs dog puppy obedience training dog obedience classes dog training dog training equipment

Methods For Hunting Posted By: July Utley

Hunting for subsistence and for outdoor activity can differ greatly along with hunting regulations involving issues of where, when and how it is to be performed. Approaches of hunting may change dependent on on state restrictions, personal ethics of the hunter, local custom of the location, hunting weapon like used guns, and the animal being hunted. At times, a hunter won't only make use of a single approach but a combination of techniques.Beagling is the use of beagles in hunting rabbits, hares and foxes. This is the common past time enjoyed by fox hunters who are retired from work, sustained too many injuries, lost the agility to ride horseback, and enjoy the outdoors and the camaraderie of the hunt. This is also the traditional way for young men to learn how to hunt with the use of gun sale and the use of hounds before going grand on hunting with foxhounds.Blind or stand hunting is patiently waiting for animals from a hidden but elevated position. A hunting blind maybe simple and easy to build while others are complex; and it covers the hunters and is specially made to reduce the chance of detection.guns for sale handguns for sale shotguns for sale pistols for sale archery

The English Foxhound is a large sized dog who can be 21-25 inches tall and weigh around 65-75 lbs, however show dogs tend to be bigger weighing anything up to 100 lbs. They have a wide skull with a long snout, with sweet looking eyes. Their legs should be straight boned and muscular ending with tight cat like feet. They are a mix of greyhounds - this was used for its speed, Fox Terriers - used for their hunting instincts and the bulldog for its determination.english foxhound english foxhounds england dog breed profile dogs puppies

Bluetick Coonhound Dog Breed Posted By: Scott Lipe

Description: The Bluetick Coonhound breed has a broad head with a domed skull. Here we see the muzzle that is square long, deep, broad and has a predominant stop. This breed has round eyes, which are dark brown and widely set.

This breed has low ears, and these are thin. The tail is high, tapering to a beautiful point. The legs are straight, from the elbow; we see feet that are compact, with well arched toes. The hind legs are long and muscular. Their coats are glossy and smooth, dense and short, feeling slightly coarse to the touch.

The colours of this breed are dark blue, with thick mottled body, spotted with shapes of black spots on the back, we see this on the back, sides, and ears. The tricolour coat as a speckled blue to look at, its heavy ticking is in point of fact made up of black coloured hairs on a white background, which creates a blueing effect. Ears and head are principally black.

This breed can come with tan or without tan markings. If they appear, they should be on the chest, cheeks, and eyes and below the tail.bluetick coonhound blue tick coon hound dogs puppies profile info

Redbone Coonhound Dog Breed Profile Posted By: Scott Lipe

Description: The Redbone Coonhound is a strong, medium sized dog in the hound group. As might be inferred from its name, the coat of this dog is a fairly bright red. The Redbone Coonhound will be found to be 21 to 27 inches at the shoulder and the weight will vary between 50 and 70 pounds. This is a short-haired dog. The Redbone Coon hound has long legs and a agile, muscular body. The ears are long and pendant and will extend the length of the muzzle. This dog has a lifespan of 11 to 12 years. The Red bone Coon hound likes to bark or howl.

History: As the American continent began to be settled, people from Europe brought their dogs with them. Scottish settlers in the 1800s brought a hound with them that would be the progenitor of the Redbone Coonhound. They needed a robust, hearty hunting dog that would be able to tackle a variety of animals. One of the early breeders of this dog, Peter Redbone, helped perfect the breed. The Bloodhound and Irish Foxhounds were also crossed with the original stock to bring about the Redbone Coonhound.redbone coonhound red bone coon hound dog breed profile info puppies dogs

Dog Sports To Enjoy With Your Dog (part 2) Posted By: Tristan Andrews

Do you enjoy watching Purina's Incredible Dog Challenge? Have you seen the big diving dogs? The name of the sport where the Labrador Retrievers go leaping into the pool is actually called Dock Jumping. You don't have to have a Labrador Retriever to compete. Any water-loving dog can take the leap. This "big splash" is lots of fun for dogs that love the water.

Don't feel bad if your dog can't leap 20 feet after a training dummy. It's all for fun and small dogs can splash, too. There are a number of local and regional clubs for the sport but there doesn't seem to be a national governing body at this time.

If your dog loves to play Frisbee there is a sport for catching the flying disc. Disc Dog is fun and exciting for both dogs and spectators. Dogs have the fun of chasing and catching the disc and on-lookers can oooh and aaah over the spectacular catches. Mixed breeds and purebreds can both play. There are competitive trials for Disc Dog. They can span everything from accuracy and distance to freestyle and team trials.dog dogs canine puppies dog training dog web hosting dog behavior

They are man's best friend, as they say cute and cuddly, intelligent and witty, lean and furry.

HUNTING THE RIGHT HOUND

In true mixed breeds, the dog's ancestry is next to impossible to predict, although many people can't help but try to guess. The sporting group comprises some of the most popular breeds, including pointers, setters, retrievers and spaniels. Unfortunately, the sheer popularity of some of the sporting breeds, most notably cocker spaniels but also Labrador and golden retrievers, has led to a rise in health and behavioural problems. In more modern times, the poodle's intelligence and trainability saw it employed in show business, commonly in circuses. To know more about these canine kinds, here are some areas to consider in selecting what mutt to adopt:

Herding dogs actively round up cattle and sheep with frantic running, eye contact and aggressive barking unlike the livestock guardians that simply stand as a guard. The American Kennel Club created this dog group to honour what is one of the oldest of dog professions:herding livestock. Today the slow, prodding bloodhound is usually used by law enforcement to track renegades or missing persons. Combining the taut muscles and compact power of the bulldog with the tenacity and aggressiveness of the terrier, some controversial bull terrier breeds have been involved in some highly publicized biting incidents, several involving small children. These canine workers can round up both children and adults alike into corners or even tight circles. Often used interchangeably, the terms "mixed breed" and "crossbreed" have slightly different meanings. They are familiar faces from numerous media spots, including the movie Air Bud and the TV Show Full House.dog obedience training dog obedience stop pulling dangerous habit stop jumping obedience training

-----------------------

MAKE THE PUPS KNOW WHO'S IN CHARGE
However, they can be your worst enemy sometimes.

HUNTING THE RIGHT HOUND
But despite what those who breed and sell crossbreeds might try to tell you, these are not, nor will they likely ever be, recognized as purebred dogs. Sporting dogs that are alert, active and intelligent have historically been used by hunters to locate, flush or retrieve game from land or water. That's part of the fun. Its name origins from the Latin terra, meaning "for earth", most terriers were originally bred to "go to ground" after burrowing vermin, larger rodents and even foxes. Children and dogs make potentially blissful partners, but choosing a dog that actually likes to play with children is your best bet in orchestrating a match made in heaven. Scent hounds such as bloodhounds, beagles and foxhounds have historically aided hunters by following the scent trails left by their quarry. The national symbol of England, known for its strength and determination, it has been out of work since bull-baiting went out of fashion in the late 19th century.Dog obedience dog training dog kennels dog training dvd.

All About The American Foxhound Posted By: Gerry Ronson

The foxhound has several wonderful qualities including hunting, tracking, being a watchdog, and a trail dog. They are a hardy breed, which means they have a lot of energy to expend and love to have some type of job or game to play during the day. They have been used as pack dogs as well. You will find they are not good around other pets like cats. Their instincts are to chase and they can end up harming the other pets. They do okay with other dogs, but again this depends on the breed of the other dog. They can do well with the same breed. You will find they are not the best of dogs to have around children or novice owners. However with the proper training in socialization and obedience they can be in family homes. Training will be difficult as they are a stubborn breed. As long as you are firm, but gentle you should have no difficulty in further training after obedience. They are often a barker, so you may need to train them when to bark and when not to bark. They are very friendly, loyal, and energetic pets to have in your home.american foxhound dog breed
