<title>The Tendonitis Myth Posted By: Alex Nordach</title>
<description>If you suffer from tendonitis, you are likely the recipient of a lot of bad information -- not the least of it from your doctor. It's really not his (or her) fault; doctors are busy, and they don't have time to keep up with all the latest research in every area. Nonetheless, in this article I'm going to use some recent (within the past ten years or so) scientific papers to show that if you're being told that you're suffering from some sort of inflammation (i.e., "tendonitis"), you're most likely being told wrong.

First, some terminology. Tendonitis, or tendinitis as it appears in most academic papers, can be broken down for our purposes here into two basic categories. One is inflammatory tendonitis, and is comparatively rare. The other is degenerative tendonitis, more properly called tendonosis, and is far more frequent. Since the "itis" suffix in tendonitis itself means "inflammation" in medical parlance, "degenerative tendonitis" is something of a misnomer. So here I'm going to stick to calling it tendonosis. ("Osis" refers to chronic degeneration without inflammation.)
