The Story Behind The Rnli Posted By: Simon White

In the beginning

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was founded in 1824, but went under the name of The National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck. It was the brainchild of Sir William Hillary, who was very much aware of the dangers of the sea to both crews and vessels, living as he did on the Isle of Man, where many ships were wrecked along the Manx coastline. He had the dream of a national lifeboat service manned by trained crews.

The Admiralty were not too enthusiastic about his idea, but undeterred, he appealed to some more generous philanthropists and enlisted the help of two members of parliament, George Hibbert and Thomas Wilson. At the age of 60 he took part in a rescue, as commander of the lifeboat, which went to the aid of the packet St. George, in the entrance of Douglas Harbour. The whole crew of the lifeboat including Sir William were washed overboard, but fortunately everyone aboard the packet was rescued with no loss of life.

In 1854 the name was changed to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Lionel Lukin was a coachbuilder, living in Westminster.lifeboat RNLI lifesaver boats yachts danger sea lifeboat service

Ships Need Predictive Maintenance Lust Like Cars Do Posted By: Art Gib

Sea going vessels spend their life in the salt water that can corrode the hull of a ship and cause damage to the engines, rudder and propeller. Like any hard working engine the large power plants that drive a ship across the world's oceans require routine predictive maintenance to keep them working as they should. Knowing that from time to time the vessels will need to be inspected and maintained the captain and crew can schedule layovers in ports that provide the dockside servicing to their seafaring transports.

However, even with routine maintenance work being done a ship may need to have other mechanical repairs made to the engines or driveshaft. Condition based maintenance takes place when wear and tear are noticed and repairs or replacement parts installed before a problem gets worse.

Being stranded at sea and having to call out the coastguard for assistance is not something that any captain wants to do so if a mechanical issue is in need of diagnosis it can be done while the freighter is in port.condition based maintenance predictive maintenance ultrasonic leak detection

The Coastguard Service - Then And Now Posted By: Simon White

The coastguard services are national organisations responsible for various services at sea. However, they have widely different responsibilities in different countries, from being heavily armed military forces with customs and security duties, to being volunteer organisations tasked with search and rescue functions and lacking any law enforcement powers.

In the United Kingdom, Her Majesty's Coastguard is mainly concerned with search and rescue. It has no role in the maintenance of seamarks, nor with customs enforcement. HM Coastguard does not possess many of its own lifeboats, but does have several MCA Falcons, which are a type of lifeboat that are used in areas that might not necessarily have a lifeboat provided by the volunteer Royal National Lifeboat Institution. It often leases commercial helicopters and tugs to provide search and rescue cover in certain areas. It does however maintain a number of search, cliff and mud rescue teams, as well as some inshore rescue boats and is a coordinating body and public face for the maritime search and rescue services. It is part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Department for Transport.Yacht Sailing Sea Coastguard Rescue Search

Exploring The Coastal Village Of Hawthorn Posted By: Matt Fay

Located in County Durham in the countryside of northeast England, Hawthorn is a coastal township, village and ecclesiastical parish between the towns of Easington and Seaham. Situated approximately one and half miles northeast of Easington and about three miles away from South Hetton station, this small, rustic, rural village lies on a low rise just north of Easington town.

Situated in an area historically known for agricultural, mining and railway industries, County Durham, which is bordered by North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Cumberland and Cumbria, has recently been revived and regenerated. Promoted as a destination for tourists from within the country, the county retains much of its rustic charms, not just in listed and recognised World Heritage Sites such as County Durham Cathedral and Castle, but also in many of the smaller villages in the county, such as Hawthorn.

The most notable feature of Hawthorn is its proximity to the coast, with the North Sea running along the east of the parish.property real estate estate agents buy house house for sale buy flat business property search to let property

Learn How To Sail A Sailboat Posted By: Ryan Trollip

Learn how to sail a sailboat
Learn How to sail a yacht
How to learn to sail?

There are a few ways to learn to sail, you can go directly to a sailing school and get certified, have a friend teach you the basics or alternatively you can teach yourself. One advantage of sailing is, the smallest of modern sailboats uses the same concepts as the biggest of sail boats. So although the size and complexity of controls and equipment may differ the principals of sailing are exactly the same. You can learn the fundamentals with a small sailing dingy in relatively sheltered waters in light winds and later progress to larger boats, and on into more open waters.

Teach yourself to sail

There are a myriad of good books taking you through most every detail of sailing. More recently there are online sailing courses available on how to sail a sailboat. The key is to progress slowly and be fully aware of the potential dangers and safety procedures.how to sail a sailboat how to sail a yacht how to sail?

Buy A Used Boat At Government Boat Auctions Posted By: Phil Marks

Government boat auctions are big business and included under the general heading are disposals of police and coastguard seizures. The seizures are most often linked to drug running (one of my own was seized by customs with drugs aboard - before I bought her, I hasten to add, and sold through a government boats auction). vessels at auction may also come from the Navy, which has fleets of sail and power boats which they use for training ratings and officers. These vessels may be worked hard but are usually well maintained. When they are replaced they come up on offer at government surplus auctions. You will usually be buying 'sold as seen' and that is a risk unless you really take some care and advice.

Government auctions boats - not a headline you see in the press, as there is an auction somewhere most days, but what are the risks of finding your dream boat at auction?

'Sold as Seen' can be pretty scary. It is not easy to have a full survey and sue the government after the event.boat auctions government boat auctions buy boat at auction how to buy a boat at auction buy boat auction yacht auction government boats auction

There Are Many Fast Routes To Use To Get A Parcel To Southampton Posted By: Cole Rees

Think of Southampton and one of the first things that springs to mind is its association with luxury cruise liners.

Considered probably the premier cruise ship port in the UK, the city has an international flavour which sets it apart from most other British cities.
But aside from the luxury liners which regularly call at the port, it also sees large numbers of freight vessels, and is home to one of the busiest container ports serving the UK. The importance of this industry to the local economy is evidenced by the fact that the area is home to many ancillary and support businesses. Many other companies have also established bases in the Southampton area in order to capitalise on the ease with which they can send their goods abroad from the locality.

It is also a convenient place from which to reach London and most of southern England, with excellent land and air transport connections.parcel delivery courier services send a parcel

Leiston Posted By: David Fisher

For those looking for a strong village community life, whilst being able to enjoy pretty countryside, beach views and excellent amenities, Leiston has it all. Nestling near the attractive Suffolk coast between Felixstowe and Lowestoft, Leiston boasts a rich history that it takes care to promote.

Saxon times saw Leiston as an important village, known then as Lehtun or Leestune. As part of Edric of Laxfield's estate, it held a thriving agricultural community, with meadows, horses, cows, sheep and bees. The village at that time had three churches and three manors, representative of its high standing in the country.

Leiston's historical roots are probably best known for the influence of the Robert Garret Engineering Works, which came to the area in 1778 to make agricultural machinery. The company not only generated huge employment opportunities but improved the town centre with lighting and drainage of the marshland. It also played a major part in manufacturing goods for the military during both world wars and became known throughout the world, putting Leiston firmly on the map.property real estate estate agents buy house house for sale business finance

Led Light Bar Units To Lighting Up First Emergency Vehicles. Posted By: Sunil Punjabi

The range of emergency or first response vehicles is large, police, ambulance, rescue, fire and coastguard vehicles all fall into the emergency first response vehicle list. The range of equipment needed by first responders is vast and diverse but they all have one lot of kit and that is lighting. There is no such thing as a standard LED light bar just as there is no such thing as a standard emergency vehicle. Each emergency service has different requirements from their vehicle lighting with police probably needing the most versatility from their LED light bar units. Emergency vehicle lighting is a big market but that means that there is a wealth of choice out there.

The kind of lighting a tow truck will need will be vastly different to what a fire truck needs, and an ambulance will need a completely different set of lights to a police cruiser. As first response vehicles belong to different emergency services and they all carry different types of equipment depending on their line of duty.LED Light bar

Bar Led Lights The Future Of Emergency Vehicle Lighting. Posted By: Sunil Punjabi

A Bar LED light on an emergency vehicle serves many purposes. The absolute main purpose is to advise and warn of hazard and danger. Fire trucks, police cars and medical response vehicles all have some kind of light bar on them and that lightbar will invariably be of the LED variety. Police vehicles need the most versatility from their lights and the lightbar on their vehicles needs to be multi functional. A police vehicle will need hazard warning lights, take down lights, alley lights and possibly traffic advisors depending on their area of operation.

The sizes and huge variety of Bar LED lights is huge, from the largest tiered bank of lights for a fire truck to the smallest dash LED light bar for inside a vehicle. The Bar LED lights are shrinking and that is because the new generation of LED light is incredibly bright. The main benefit other than in light output of using LED light against all other light is that they use minimum power, and when you run your lights from a vehicle battery that's important.Bar LED

What Is Classified As An Emergency Vehicle And What Does It Need To Make It Stand Out. Posted By: Sunil Punjabi

The definition of an emergency vehicle would probably be something like this 'any vehicle that is authorized or designated to respond to an emergency'. That sounds simple enough but all kinds of people would run and operate emergency vehicles on their fleet. The immediate ones that spring to mind are the most obvious such as police, ambulance and fire vehicles. There is however far more vehicles that could be used in emergencies than those few. emergency vehicles could operate on land, sea, high ground or in rough terrain so the range and variety is huge.

A bicycle could be an emergency vehicle and indeed some police departments have officers on bicycles. That may seem a strange mode of emergency transport but they are highly effective in crowded cities where road traffic can be almost at a standstill for hours at a time. A bicycle could get to a scene far quicker than a police cruiser and therefore respond to an emergency situation. A bicycle can maneuver and travel down the narrowest of ally's giving the officer an advantage over other modes of emergency transport.Emergency vehicle

The Symbolism Of Jewelry Posted By: Roberto Sedycias

Way back in ancient Egypt, jewelery was used symbolically to show as persons wealth or place in society. The Pharaohs were dripping in highly ornate jewelry of gold and precious stones, and these were buried with them so if future generations found them they would know that this was the grave of somebody of extremely high importance. The Hellenistic period of ancient Greece also produced many elaborate pieces of jewelry to symbolize importance, as did the Romans. Although their first popular piece of jewelry was also practical as it was a brooch which held their togas in place.

In the UK, the crown jewels are a status symbol. These treasures have been passed down through generations of Monarchy and still have their place in traditional royal occasions.
Utilizing Marine Gps Units, Garmin Fishfinders And Garmin Fish Tracking Devices Posted By: kellyprice1225

Marine GPS units, like normal GPS units help us to locate. Marine GPS helps us to perceive obstructions in water like rocks during our voyage. They were first used by coastguard folks for tracking ships while these ships moved through different coasts. The basic purpose here was to know the direction (in which they were heading) and in indirectly have a rough idea about their speed of travel.

Now coming to some misconceptions related to marine GPS units, it is a common delusion that only users who have good sea knowledge can use these kinds of GPS units effectively. But the fact is that modern marine GPS devices are very easy to use wherein even a lay man can use it efficiently.

There are many types of marine GPS devices so the prices also vary, depending upon the brand, utility and features. The handheld marine GPS is quite convenient but doesn't offer mapping capabilities. For mapping, marine GPS receiver is a better option and it often comes with certain preloaded maps as well.

Using GPS for boating and fishing, it is advised to check if your GPS unit meets the necessary standards.Garmin fishfinders Garmin fish tracking devices
