American Express Extends Reach To China Posted By: China Briefing

Although China has made it more difficult for foreign investors to enter its e-payment sector over the last year, the potential profits offered by the country"s massive consumer population are proving too attractive to miss. Recently, American Express "" the U.S. financial service provider that has long considered China as its critical strategic market "" established a new partnership with a growing Chinese payment service company, Lianlian Group, by means of equity investment and technology authorization.

AmEx said on January 18 that it will license its digital wallet Serve "" a next-generation commerce technology developed to target lower-end consumers "" to the Zhejiang-based Lianlian Group. The Chinese company will be allowed to apply the technology in its payment services, but will not necessarily use the Serve brand.

In order to provide technical and consulting support to Lianlian, AmEx plans to expand its Chinese presence and open a new office in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province.

In addition, AmEx also made an equity investment of US$125 million in its new partner.China Business Foreign Investment Regulation

Scuba Diving Grand Cayman - Doc Poulson Posted By: swsmeltzer

There are other interesting wrecks in Grand Cayman besides the USS Kittiwake. The Doc Poulson is a purpose sunk shipwreck on the western part of Grand Cayman. The ship was originally a Japanese cable laying ship and was sunk in Grand Cayman in 1981 to create an artificial reef on Seven Mile beach. The wreck site is named for Doc Poulson who helped set up the first hyperbaric chamber on Grand Cayman for the treatment of decompression sickness.

The wreck sits upright in about 50 to 60 feet of water and can be easily explored. However, given the age of the wreck there are many exposed surfaces that can cause harm to a diver. The ship is about 70 feet in length and the cable wenches can still be seen on deck but are heavily encrusted with corals. There are a variety of fish in and around the ship from Goliath grouper, to Queen Conch, to cleaner shrimp, blue tang and many more.

The wreck sits on a sand flatand is about a 5 minute swim away from the reef.Scuba Diving Grand Cayman Underwater Photography

Scuba Diving Grand Cayman - Oro Verde Posted By: swsmeltzer

The Oro Verde shipwreck in Grand Cayman has been a favorite site for divers since she was sunk on May 31, 1980 by the Cayman government. The vessel a 131-foot 692-ton freighter lies in about 50 feet of water just off Grand Cayman's famous Seven Mile Beach. The wreck has deteriorated a lot since her reefing, mainly as a result of several hurricanes that have hit the island in the last 30 years. The debris field today is scattered over a wide area with only the bow section still intact.

You can read about the history and background of the Oro Verde on my blog and view the complete underwater photo gallery on my website.
The Dive
The shipwreck and surrounding reefs are home to a variety of marine life including, fish, turtles, custaceans and corals, making this one of the most popular shallow dives in Grand Cayman, often frequented after a deeper wall dive or on a night dive. Though it was in pristine condition when it was sunk and lying on her starboard in the sand next door to a patch of reef, the wreck's finer details have since given way to the force of time;Scuba Diving Grand Cayman Underwater Photography

Scuba Diving Grand Cayman - Big Tunnels Posted By: swsmeltzer

Big Tunnels is one of the better dives on the west side of Grand Cayman. It has a large passageway, "tunnel" that is wide enough for a couple of buses to pass side by side and dumps out to the wall at about 100 feet. There are a number of spiral routes up through the coral where you can find a wide variety of marine life including a number of Tarpon, usually congregated in one of the passages ways just down from the top of the wall.

You will find Yellow Tube sponges, Spiny Lobsters, several small Bubble-tip Annenome colonies, Schoolmasters, Green Sea turtles as well as Hawksbill in the area and much more. You may also see a Spotted Eagle Ray off the wall, so make sure you take the chance to "peer into the blue" as you are swimming along the wall. The site can have current as it is close to the west end of the island and it can also be fairly turbid at times. However, most of the time you will find good to excellent visibility and a good spot for underwater photography.Scuba Diving Grand Cayman Underwater Photography

One Year On: The Success Story Of The Sinking Of The Kittiwake Posted By: Orly Withmolaw

In January, 2011 the former USS Kittiwake was sunk off the coast of the Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island to create a new diving attraction for divers and snorkelers. Since then, it has become one of the most leading attractions for tourists enjoying scuba diving holidays in the Cayman Islands.

The 252-foot, 2,200-ton ship was sunk to encourage more travellers to take scuba diving holidays in the region, as well as creating an artificial reef that would attract more marine species.

It took seven years to organise but the efforts of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, the government and project leader Nancy Easterbrook finally paid off when the vessel was submerged on Wednesday 5th January, 2011.

The sinking of the Kittiwake was recorded by Cayman Free Press reporter, Brian Wright, who stood on a special platform on a Red Sail Sports boat and by February, 2011 his video had attracted more than 56,000 hits on You Tube.

Nancy Easterbrook was awarded by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism at the Stingray Awards ceremony at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, where she received the Special Contribution Award.

"It was an honour," she explained.Scuba diving holidays diving Grand Cayman

Funds And Games Posted By: Revington Charollete

A large number of regulatory changes have taken place or have been proposed in the past two years affecting the financial sector. Of the recent regulatory changes, which has had the greatest impact on the funds industry to date?

Jeffrey Bronheim, general counsel, Cheyne Capital: When the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive [AIFMD] was published certain provisions could have harmed the hedge fund business in Europe. While the final directive is more appropriate it will still require many person-hours to understand and implement. In the past few years we have seen changing, inconsistent and often complex short-selling restrictions imposed by various countries and regulators, occasionally without warning. These appear to have had minimal impact in calming market volatility or slowing the fall in share prices, but they have certainly increased the operational costs of doing business and had a significant impact on trading strategies.

Matthew Cavanagh, general counsel, Christofferson Robb AND Company: Clearly, the AIFMD - not from the perspective of an impact on our day-to-day activities, but rather from that of needing to keep on top of its detailed terms and constantly assess its potential impact as it has moved through its various guises.cheyne capital hedge funds cheyne news

Scuba Diving Grand Cayman - Uss Kittiwake Posted By: swsmeltzer

This is a great scuba diving site that just past the one year anniversary of the reefing of the ship. The following is an overview of the dive, some history and information regarding the ship and an overview of what you will find on the wreck. I have also just added over two dozen new photos to the gallery in honor of the one year anniversary of the reefing. View the complete photo gallery on my website and see my blog entry for the USS Kittiwake for more information on the wreck and a history of the ship.
The Dive:
The ship was sunk January 5, 2011 off the north end of Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman.

There are 5 decks on the 47 foot tall USS Kittiwake. Externally, the crow's nest, mast and large stern a-frame have been cut down and remounted to make her height suitable for Cayman waters. The upper decks accommodate the 2 bridges (both an external and internal bridge to allow operations in heavy seas) along with the radio and navigation room. The sonar has been removed. The Captain and XO's quarters are also on the upper decks.Scuba Diving Grand Cayman

Scuba Diving Grand Cayman - Andes Wall Posted By: swsmeltzer

When you are on your next scuba diving trip to Grand Cayman make a point to dive on Andes Wall, you will certainly not regret it. It is certainly one of my favorite sites on the island and is accessible from the West Side dive boat operators or out of Rum Point. This is a great wall dive and is a premium spot for underwater photography. Andes Wall is located just past Rum Point on the North Wall. Typical conditions are 100+ feet of visibility and there is a sheer drop along the wall of several thousand feet. On this dive you will see Spotted Eagle Rays on almost every dive. There are also other pelagics that can be found here from the elusive Tiger Shark to White Tips, Hammerheads and more.

I went with Red Sail Sports on my last dive at Andes Wall and the day was absolutely perfect for underwater photography. It was one of those extremely rare days when the north wall was absolutely flat. The visibility was over 150, no current, very little particulates in the water and there were only 8 divers on the boat. This must be paradise.Scuba Diving Grand Cayman Andes Wall

Hurricane - The Nightmare That Hounds Man Every Day Posted By: liss

As hurricanes are those deadly monsters that can bring various kinds of disasters to the area which gets affected, it's not a surprise that emergency managers want better calculations related to its commencement. Today, we can track the path of a hurricane, though accuracy regarding its forecast for intensity is not giving better results. As the deadly storm will smash everything on its way, it's important to know the intensity of the storm, duration and course.

Geostationary satellites that track environmental changes measure heat radiations in the upper atmosphere and based on that data scientists calculate the speed of the wind and its direction. With the emergence of two new satellites, the NOAA-15 and NOAA-16, it became easy for hurricane researchers to collect temperature readings from oxygen molecules in the air. As satellites using for these purposes can view invisible winds in the hurricane environment that are crucial to create a big destructive storm, it will alert people dealing with weather forecasting. In weather forecasting centers, they will verify the atmospheric temperatures and the visual light images of the clouds and feed it into prediction models to get a clear picture about the hurricane movement.adt home security system home alarm hurricanes
