Tips And Techniques For A Strong Basketball Offense Posted By: Nir Dotan

Offensive plays in basketball is all about scoring or, in other words, shooting the ball through the hoop in a strategic manner. Offensive moves in basketball consist of a series of continuous actions that may include passes, drives, screens, fakes and cuts that are all intended to set up a shot. Successful offensive plays require a lot of constant practice and the collective effort of the team.

Developing good offense tactics is one of the keys of being a great basketball player and this should start as soon as you begin learning the game. At the same time that there are offense techniques that you should cultivate, there are also certain actions that you should avoid doing inside the court. Here's a quick look at what you should and should not develop in order to gain a strong offense in basketball:

Be a part of the game's action at all times. Don't just stand still and watch the game happen. Unfortunately, many basketball players are guilty of this. However, just moving around will not work either. The key is in acting with a purpose, which will make you harder to guard.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Everything You Need To Know About Basketball Posted By: Nir Dotan

Basketball has been one of the most sought out games that is being played ranging from the youth to the elderly. This team sport is a fast paced game that keeps your adrenaline pumping the entire time you're playing this sport. Many people play this game for recreation and just have fun. But to others this game can be too confusing because of the many rules any regulations. Here is a guide to help you further understand the great game of basketball.

This team sport requires two teams, which have five active players playing on the court, to score points against the opponent under specified and organized rules. Usually, the tallest player on court will be considered as the center or any of the two forwards. The smallest and/or the fastest player would be in the guard positions. By throwing the ball through a 10-foot high hoop points are scored for the team. A successful shot can either be two points or three points. It is only considered a three point shot if you are beyond the three-point arc.

The game is divided into four quarters, ten or twelve minutes each.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

The Palming Violation: The Answer Or The Problem? Posted By: Nir Dotan

Some say that great players are the ones that win championships. Others say that the truly great ones make those around them great as well. Both statements are true. However, it is safe to say that a player is truly great if certain rules that apply to the game of basketball are changed by him, in response to his style of play.

This player is Allen "The Answer" Iverson, and yes, his crossover changed the palming violation rule not only in the NBA, but throughout the whole basketball world. Iverson had such an impressive crossover dribble. He could fake anyone, and score almost at will considering his height. His combination of raw speed, skill, and heart makes him, (put generously at five feet and eleven inches) one of the best basketball players in the history of the sport.

In one of the blogs, Sherman Mazur's in particular, it was mentioned that although Iverson's currently out of the playoffs, his former team, Denver, was the pick to be in the 2009 finals.

As he was building his legend around the league, opposing players and coaches were complaining about his primary weapon: the crossover dribble.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Describing A Perfect Offensive Team Posted By: Nir Dotan

The National Basketball Association Finals 2009 is one of the best showcases of offensive firepower that the world has seen in a long time. Not since the Lakers-Celtics rivalry of Magic and Bird have two offensively superior teams been pitted against each other, exchanging baskets and runs all throughout the ballgame.

Different coaches and different players have varying answers on what kind of offense they would like to play in. Steve Nash, for example, and most of the Phoenix suns like a fast paced style, that is up and down the court with very little half court sets. Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs however, prefer to slow it down and set things up, to call out and execute plays.

Perhaps a question on every basketball fan and players mind is: what kind of team/s is/are the most complete offensively? Of course the answer to that question would depend on so many factors such as players, coaches, team record, and the list goes on. However, a theoretically "perfect" offensive team would be the current roster of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Los Angeles has a player who can create for himself, and for his teammates in Kobe Bryant.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Basketball Superstars, The Team Concept, And Winning Posted By: Nir Dotan

Basketball is a sport of grace and skill. However, it is not just about talent. Being a team sport, the most successful teams are the ones that are able to use each player, and make him play to his strengths in contributing to the team.

Superstars get all the attention, the endorsements, the posters, and the video game covers, but in the end, they are nothing without their teammates. No matter how good you are, what really matters is winning. People care about the winners, and that is why you need teammates who will work well with you.

Teams without superstars, or clear leaders, also have a tough time winning because they do not have any direction on the court. They need someone to follow, someone to call the shots and control the game on the court, not just from the bench.

"One-man teams" achieve some success, because of the sheer talent of their respective stars. But these teams never win the ultimate prize in basketball, which is an NBA championship, because one superstar is at odds versus five players working on the court together for obvious reasons.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

The Stuff Of True Winners Posted By: Nir Dotan

What is it that makes up true winners in the NBA? No, it's not pure heart, because if so, Dwyane Wade and Miami Heat would have made it all the way. It's also not just about having the perfect offense, because then, Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets would have made it passed the conference finals. Not even is it about having arguably the games most dynamic player, because the Cleveland Cavaliers sure would have made it through.

Blogger of NBA action, Sherman Mazur, picked two teams-one with the best offense, the other with the best superstar, to meet in the finals: The Denver Nuggets versus the Cleveland Cavaliers. Both however, were trounced by their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Orlando Magic, respectively.

A lot of people picked the Lakers and Magic to win it all during the season, but both teams faltered along the way. For the most part during the playoffs, their performances were less than convincing, making a lot of people doubters in their ability to go all the way. This is the first characteristic of true winners: resiliency.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Keeping Track Of Time In Basketball Posted By: Nir Dotan

Time is money. In everyday life, it feels as if it is always fleeting, always running away from us as if we need to catch it, like the way Cleveland plays as NBA blogger Sherman Mazur Describes them. In basketball, time is no different. Aside from the five guys on the floor, players always find themselves competing against the clock.

The most obvious is the shot clock violation. The shot clock gives each team exactly twenty four seconds to shoot once any of their five players are in clear possession of the ball, on the basketball court. It will only reset if the ball hits the rim. Should the shot clock expire, ball possession will change and it will be counted as a turnover for the last player holding the basketball.

However, once a team is in possession of the ball, the shot clock is not the only one ticking against them. Even before the shot clock ticks, when a player is still inbounding, the referee is tasked with giving him five seconds only to get the ball to a teammate.

When the ball is finally inbounded, just as the shot clock starts, so does the eight second backcourt rule.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Answers To Satisfy A Foul Inquiry Posted By: Nir Dotan

In every sport, there are times when physical contact is too much, hindering players from making moves they want to make out of force, rather than skill. Basketball is no exception. In basketball, fouls are called when there is unnecessary contact made between opposing players. A defensive foul is called on a defender if he disrupts the offensive player by force and contact, rather than defensive fundamentals. An offensive foul is called when an offensive player clears out his defender using his body first, and not making any offensive move.

Explaining the content in which these fouls are to be called is hard enough, which is why it is all the more difficult to actually call them during ball games. Teams have different styles of play and referees sometimes adjust to such factors. Some games become really physical while others are frustrating because of tight refereeing.

Such a dilemma is being experienced in today's NBA playoffs. With such closely contested victories, predicting winners has been especially challenging even for ardent NBA fans as pointed out by sports bloggers like Sherman Mazur.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Habits To Avoid For A Successful Basketball Offense Posted By: Nir Dotan

If you observe successful basketball players, you would notice that these athletes have developed good playing habits. Every basketball player that is just starting to learn the game should be the same. While cultivating good habits, a player should work on getting rid of the bad ones. It may be seem like too simple an advice but the fact is many players find it a challenge to drop their bad habits on the court.

But change can happen if you make an effort towards it. Whether good or bad, habits are formed through constant repetition. So, the key to eliminating bad playing habits is to keep on doing the good ones instead. But a crucial part to this process is identifying what habits you should avoid that are not helping your game or contributing to the team. Here are some of the things players tend to do that they shouldn't:

Forgetting that basketball is a team sport and concentrating more on delivering a good one-on-one offensive. Players who are more focused on their own game obviously compromise the team's success.

Forgetting that they are part of the game.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Being Safe While Playing Basketball Posted By: Nir Dotan

Like any sport that calls for fast moves, there is always a risk of injury to basketball players. While it is not entirely a contact sport in every sense, if you play basketball or have seen a game, then you know that there is some level of physical contact involved in this sport although not all of it is always within the rules of the game.

One of the ways to reduce injuries in basketball is to make sure the court, whether an indoor sports arena or an outside court, is safe for playing. With an indoor court, the floor should be inspected before a game for any slip hazards like spilled drinks or sweat that need to be cleaned up first. If it's an outside game, you should also make it a point to check whether the court's surface has no potholes, rubbish or anything that players could trip over.basketball sports sports information recreation leisure Sherman Mazur sports blog foul shots bball

Top 3 Reasons Why Birdie Balls Are The Best Golf Practice Aids Posted By: Scott Carter

Top 3 Reasons Why Birdie Balls are the Best Golf Practice Aids
by Scott Carter

1. They provide acurate feedback on shot direction.

For golf practice to be effective, you have to know what your shot is going to do. If your swing is slightly outside-in, the resulting shot should should fade slightly. The more side spin your swing imparts, the greater the arc of the shot. Birdie balls provide excellent feedback on shot direction.

2. They have a feel that closely mimics a real golfball.

For golf practice to be truly effective, it must feel as close as possible to actual course play.
