What Is Aspergers Syndrome? Posted By: Dominic Lin

Asperger's Syndrome, also referred to as Aperger's Disorder, is one form of Pervasive Development Disorder, or PDD. PDD's are a category of conditions that are characterized by delays in basic skill development, such as communication and socialization. The condition was named for Hans Asperger, and Austrian doctor who first explained the syndrome in 1944.

While Asperger's Syndrome does have similarities to autism, there are a few key differences.
Children who have been diagnosed with Aperger's Syndrome usually function at a higher level than those with autism. They have a normal level of intelligence, and language skills that are near normal levels. Issues with communication tend to develop as the child ages.
The precise symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome can differ somewhat, and can be classified from mild to severe. These symptoms include the following:

Issues with Socialization: Children with Aperger's Syndrome often have problems interacting normally and appear awkward in social settings. They usually have few or no friends.
Behavior that is Repetitive or Eccentric: Children diagnosed with this condition often have movements that are repetitive, or somewhat unusual. These can include rocking, or twisting of the hands or fingers.aspergers school learning difficulty schools dyslexia boarding school dyslexia schools

Specialist Education Can Help Children Who Are Sufferers Of Autism Posted By: Huy Nguyen

What is Autism?

There are over 500,000 people that suffer from autism in the UK or 1 in 100. The figure of 2 million people is the figure that represents those that are affected by it every single day. Those parents who have children that are subjects of autism may find it hard to understand, but they need to recognise that they are not alone when it comes to this topic. A child who is an autism sufferer, will be fully capable of growing up and having the chance of living a relatively normal childhood. Having said this, it is vitally important that you proceed to consult with the experts to realise what services are available to help you.

Autism is a progressive disorder affecting neural development. It is characterised by impairing social interaction, communication and repetitive behaviour. The information processing in the brain is affected, which is by altering how the nerve cells connect and organise information. Those who suffer from autism will also suffer from other things apart from the usual feats of social interaction for example. This can include over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, smells, tastes, lights and colours.Autism School Aspergers autism specialist schools

Children Who Are Victims Of Autism Can Profit From Specialist Education Posted By: Huy Nguyen

What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability disorder of neural development, which is characterised by impaired social interaction, communication and repetitive behaviour. It affects the information processing in the brain, simply by altering how the nerve cells connect and organise. Some people who have autism will be unable to live a relatively independent life whilst others may have accompanying learning disabilities that will need a lifetime of specialist support. Those people who suffer from autism may also experience over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, lights and colours.

Parents with children who suffer from autism may find this hard to understand, but they need to realise that they are not alone. The research from National Autistic Society suggests that there are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK (1 in 100), and over 2 million people are affected by autism every single day. It is perfectly fine for your child to grow up with the chance of living of relatively normal childhood. At the same time, it is very important to consult with the experts to understand what services are available to help.Autism School Aspergers autism specialist schools

Aspergers Syndrome And Education - What Parents Need To Know About The Iep Process Posted By: Dave Angel

The atmosphere at school can be difficult for children with Aspergers. Education, including academics, physical, and social learning may create a web of insecurity for the child. Even those children who excel in academics can suffer from poor grades due to the stress and anxiety brought on by social and physical deficits. This is why thorough assessments and an individualized education plan, or IEP are so vital.

What is an IEP?

An Individualized Education Plan, most commonly referred to as an IEP, is a legal contract for special education services from the local public school system. This contract specifically indicates service for the child and includes all necessary accommodations, therapies, and academic goals for the current school year. The IEP must indicate the child's educational placement, either in an inclusion classroom or in a special education resource classroom, for example. It must state the percentage of time for all services and who will conduct these services. Each member of the IEP team must agree to the content and must sign the contract.

What is an IEP team?

The IEP team is a group of people assembled in the best interests of the child with Aspergers.aspergers IEP aspergers education

Signs For Developmental Reading Disorder In Children Posted By: Jaimee Riso

Dyslexic problems is a struggle with learning that takes a great many forms. some children who've this problem should show the numerous symptoms for learning disabilities, while additional children will have formed coping tips from an enormously young age and show pretty only a couple, if any signs of Developmental Reading Disorder altogether. It is estimated that just twenty percent of young humans who suffer from this difficulty with learning have been identified, and that is a crying shame. With recognition, and early identification, we can work on educating young individuals in various working mechanisms that will aid them get rid of practically the many problems coming with it.

I invented this list of Dyslexia symptoms primarily from my own journey, but I also drew upon a assortment of multiple opportunities, like the British learning disabilities Association, and a couple countless interviews I held with adult Developmental Reading Disorder sufferers over the course of my research.

The symptoms for Dyslexia that I list here should cross-reference with the ones for different different learning disadvantages, such as ADD, aspergers and more. You might also observe that one or more early signs of depression are listed as well.dyslexia learning disabilities education children parenting family learning school symptoms disease illness reference psychology

What Parents Need To Know About Aspergers Syndrome And Education In Schools Posted By: Dave Angel

There are several unique challenges for parents of children with Aspergers. Education, or academics, may not be an issue at all. However, the technical attributes of Autism and the social aspects of school can create problems. Parents need to be aware of these concerns for the sake of their child's education. Here are four key issues parents need to know about Asperger's Syndrome and education in the school setting.

AND bull; Building a solid relationship with teachers and administrators is important AND mdash;you all are a team brought together by the needs of the child with Aspergers. Education team members include everyone from the principal to the special education coordinator, to the resource and therapy assistants, to the classroom teachers and the parents. Mutual respect within the child's team will result in a better atmosphere for the child while at school.

AND bull; Most schools cannot offer the amount and quality of therapies your child needs. This is why the fight for Autism insurance coverage is so crucial. Public schools are often stretched by staffing and funding problems, allowing for minimal services. They do the best they can in most instances, but parents must realize the necessity of private therapies or home programs.aspergers education

Strips Of Teaching Hours And Days To Calm Autistic Children Posted By: Lise Beverley

Strips of time and day are a great way to get an autistic child to understand what is going on day to day. They are taught the language and can modify their behavior by understanding what is happening.

We met our daughter and other autistic children, one of the main causes of a crisis is when they are confused about what is happening. This is often the case when the routine is to change and do not know, or do not understand why.

By communicating with autistic children, by any means, much earlier, perhaps the day before, what to expect for the day will be exceptionally quiet, even if it's a big change in your routine.

A form of communication to find the child is through images. Most autistic children are highly visual communicators. They see the world in images, mainly because they can not process sounds and written words.

Compics, PECS and Boardmaker were developed to communicate with people who have affected or have no language skills. They can be used for communication and, ultimately, language teaching step by step.Health And Fitness Weight Loss Nutrition Aspergers Test

The Symptoms Of Autism - Top Ten List Of Signs Your Child Has Autism Posted By: Lise Beverley

When symptoms of autism first appear in your child, can be very scary, but with early detection and treatment can be greatly improved. Below are the top ten symptoms of autism that could expose your child that may indicate an autism spectrum disorder.

List of symptoms of autism

These symptoms may indicate not only autism but also Asperger syndrome. Asperger syndrome is a mild form of autism. The symptoms of autism are usually below which we seek in young children, but can be applied to older children as well.

1. Failure to respond to his name. If you call the name of your child, and he or she does not respond, this is not a good thing. At a certain age, your child must recognize and respond ... ... when you call his name.

2. Avoid eye contact. This may appear very early, even be one of the symptoms of autism in children recognized. Babies later diagnosed with autism often avoid eye contact with her mother. In addition, many autistic children do not want to be held or cuddled.Health And Fitness Weight Loss Nutrition Aspergers Test

Reasons Asperger Syndrome May Go Undetected For Long Posted By: Lise Beverley

Asperger syndrome is a spectrum of developmental disorder called autism. Asperger syndrome is named after for short. It's a mild case of autism, perhaps the mildest type of autism. Unlike people with PDD-NOS and Williams syndrome, children born with Asperger syndrome usually have some natural gifts, while, for example, mathematics, music or science. Many celebrities have this disorder in history, it is said that former President Bush have it. The only thing that people with Asperger's can not be gifted social capacity. Have difficulty reading expressions, understanding body language. In a word, do not know how to communicate with each other naturally. However, it means that people are not hurt, that's the biggest difference between people with Asperger syndrome and sociopaths.

Sociopaths have the ability to communicate with normal people and can feel what society considers right and wrong, however, have no conscience and can not feel empathy, guilt and remorse, as we often do. Some serial murderers are psychopaths, who disrespect the rights of others, but they have nothing to do with Asperger's.

People with antisocial personality disorder are called sociopaths. In the 1830's this disorder was called "moral insanity.Health And Fitness Weight Loss Nutrition Aspergers Test

Teaching Children With Autism Speaks And Language Posted By: Lise Beverley

Teaching autistic children speech and language can be difficult. Every child in the autism spectrum can vary widely in their ability to learn, but most seem to have difficulty understanding language and communication.

Here is a method my parents taught me to speak, read and write in time. My mother has used this method successfully with other autistic children had no language skills or speech.

Before I was diagnosed with autism, my parents thought I might have had a delayed speech development, and so was seeing a speech therapist when he suggested that I get checked for autism, as in his opinion was showing some of the classic features of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Not long after he was diagnosed with autism, my mother went to America to participate in the program Son-Rise. On his return he set up an intensive care ward and began Early Intervention / ABA style of working with me.

My dad put together a computer for use in the therapy room, as they realized that in the special school he attended a few days a week, I really liked the interactive learning programs and viewing photos on the computer.Health And Fitness Weight Loss Nutrition Aspergers Test

Asperger Syndrome - The Paradox Of An Inability To Change Posted By: Lise Beverley

How would this be defined? Would be defined differently by those with Asperger syndrome compared with Neurotypicals in their lives? Who is someone who wants a change? Who is waiting for the change? Who is he that is conditional on not being able to completely change what it means that any change is impossible? And it is so important for people to realize that not all things considered the need for a change equal to an inability to change. More often, the "impossibility of change" is an illusion because of where they want to change is to address what is a different skill. How do you assess the difference between the change based on a set of rules against a different capacity that brings meaning and a different capacity to function and contribute differently.

Why do you think, is that such a focus on Asperger's syndrome in terms of people diagnosed with it as not being able to change? What is the message drawn from this fact is true, but much or even exclusively focusing on this fact?

It focuses on the reality that people with Asperger syndrome (AS) always have to leave room for hope?Health And Fitness Weight Loss Nutrition Aspergers Test

Disability Employer Awareness Month: Corporations Delivering On The Promise Of Equal Opportunity Posted By: simon kin

One of my previous articles summarized practices shared at the recent US BLN conference in Chicago featuring some corporations effectively using Disability Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to develop Global Diversity strategies and how this tied in to the October National Disability Employment Awareness month.

Although officially there is no national disability employer month, the title of this post uses a slight play on words designed to bring attention to those businesses that realize the world is changing with respect to disability and have boldly embedded this dynamic into their global diversity AND inclusion strategies on a daily basis.

Rather than turn away or look at regulatory loopholes to avoid embracing the OPPRORTUNITY to be a leader, some companies have thoughtfully positioned themselves to coordinate, integrate, and put aside perceived biases about disability in order to engage their entire workforce in building a corporate workplace that enriches them all.

In addition to having established ERGs and Board-level engagement with US BLN, Ernst AND Young (EY) and IBM are showing the way with sustainable, best practices that builds the necessary business confidence in growing their highly skilled workforces of people with disabilities.adhd program

Florida Health Insurance Is Required To Cover Autism Posted By: Wiley Long

Autism is now viewed more as a range of symptoms rather than as a single condition. It is often first recognized through delays in communication and social interaction, which show up in language development and imaginary play. Growing awareness of the extent of the problem increased the need for health insurance. Florida residents can benefit from recent legislation that increased their coverage options.

Whether referred to as Pervasive Developmental Disorders or Autism Spectrum Disorders, awareness of and assistance in dealing with autism and related conditions has grown. In recent years, state and federal legislation have been passed to address the issue. Florida health insurance plans are required to cover certain related services now.

It's estimated that one in 110 children experience some form of autism. At the milder end of this spectrum, Aspergers syndrome is often not diagnosed until after puberty or during the adult years. This is common because early development presents no noticeable deviations from the norm and, significantly, accompanies no delay in the development of language skills.

Most of time, people with Aspergers syndrome are aware of certain differences between their experiences and experiences that are common to others.Florida health insurance Florida health insurance plans health insurance for Florida

Benefits Of A Boarding School In Illinois Posted By: Art Gib

In 1744 the United States founded Nottingham Academy in Colora, Maryland which still operates to this day. With this new institution came many others just like it, and within a few decades ten new academies had been founded all of which are still currently functioning as boarding institutes across the east coast. Throughout the years, as pioneers began expanding farther west, boarding schools have been established in nearly every state. A boarding school in Illinois is a choice many people make in the hunt for a better education.

There are many things to think about when choosing an institute for children. Some children have learning disabilities and are unable to maintain an education in a basic public school. Some parents want a better education with fewer distractions. There are many things to consider before deciding on an institution for a child.

Boarding institutions offer children a place to live while receiving an education, allowing them to focus on academics in a home like environment while teaching them about collegiate life. Illinois offers five academies to choose from, each with a completely individualized approach to education.boarding school Illinois

My Aspergers Child Gets Frustrated Easily What Should I Do? Posted By: Dave Angel

Question

I would like ideas on how to deal with my son's frustrations. He will either dig in his heels and refuse to do what he is supposed to, or he shuts down and we give him some space to get himself together and discuss the problem. Its seems he works himself up over things that are not that big a deal.

Answer

Your Aspergers child will experience many frustrations. People with Aspergers tend to overreact in crowds, confusing situations, sensory stimuli and in situations where they have to do something they don't like. Situations or problems that seem minor to most of us are a "big deal" to those with Aspergers because they don't know how to handle them. Removing your son from a stressful situation and giving him time to calm down is an excellent idea. Then, if he is willing to discuss the problem, you may be able to help him learn how to handle a similar situation. His frustration and stubbornness are due to the anxiety he feels and his inability to handle situations; he can't help those feelings.

The anxiety disorders found in the Aspergers child can be approached in several different ways.aspergers frustration aspergers children aspergers child

My Child With Aspergers Has Anxiety And Night Terrors Posted By: Dave Angel

Question

I would love to know how to deal with anxiety in Aspergers Syndrome children. I have a son, 6 year old, who suffers anxiety and night terrors. The anxiety can get so bad at times that my poor son will throw up out of fear.

Answer

Aspergers anxiety contributes to sleep problems. Although sleep problems are not part of the diagnostic criteria for autism, sleep problems seem to go hand in hand with autism. Many parents report that their autistic children suffer from disturbed sleep. A new study from the University La Sapienza in Italy shows children with Aspergers Syndrome have more sleep problems than average children. Dr. Olivero Bruni, the researcher, found that children with Asperger's Syndrome have a high incidence of sleep disorders. They also demonstrate problems like getting to sleep, restlessness and daytime sleepiness. The study, published in the journal SLEEP, November 1, 2007, states that 50% of the children with Aspergers Syndrome didn't want to go to bed, 75% needed a light or television in the bedroom, 87% had difficulty getting to sleep, and 75% fell asleep sweating.

There are many medications available that can help your son with Aspergers anxiety and sleep.aspergers anxiety aspergers night terrors
