Giving Up Smoking Cold Turkey: How To Do It

It is easy enough to claim that there are people out there who are giving up smoking cold turkey. And there are many advantages to this method too. One: this is the least expensive method to kick the tobacco dependence. Two: since there are no medicines or medical procedures to use, it can be the safest method possible for those who wish to give up the cigarette habit. Three: this is the least complicated method to do. All a smoker has to do is to literally stop lighting up. However, quitting cold turkey is the hardest method to start, continue and accomplish - especially with smokers who have had tried to quit before but relapsed several times.

This method for kicking the nicotine habit is doable, but there are ways and means on how to make this a lot easier on the person who is trying to quit smoking cold turkey. Some experts suggest that:

1. The resolve must be there and be strengthened day by day. In order to successfully pull this off, the person must be resolutely conscious of never wanting to light up ever again. Half hearted measures when giving up smoking cold turkey are useless.

Prevention of Memory Loss also Prevents Alzheimer's Disease

It’s a startling fact that more than 5 million people in the U.S. suffer from memory loss. And it’s estimated that about 20% of the 78 million members of the now-graying baby boomer generation could develop heart-breaking and irreversible Alzheimer's disease.

The good news is that the prevention of memory loss and Alzheimer's disease are within your grasp. Through lifestyle changes and anti-aging techniques, it’s possible to actually increase your mental abilities — and maintain them well into your seventh and eight decades.

Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D., President and Medical Director of the non-profit Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation, has studied this dreaded disease for two decades. Dr. Dharma believes the best defense against Alzheimer's disease is to prevent it in the first place.

He has developed a 4-pronged approach to the prevention of deterioration of memory function. Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona has endorsed his work, and The Alzheimer's Association, the Mayo Clinic and UCLA have developed similar programs.

Dr. Dharma’s integrative, holistic medical program for the delay and prevention of memory loss and Alzheimer's disease involves diet and nutritional supplements, physical and mental exercise, stress and relaxation, and the use of prescribed pharmaceuticals.

Don't Let Adrenal Fatigue Happen to You

You may not have even heard of it but Adrenal Fatigue is a health disorder that can affect anyone-even bodybuilders. It is a condition that is marked by persistent or deep fatigue, loss of strength and a decline in endurance. It can also be a contributing factor in a variety of health conditions ranging from allergies to obesity. Adrenal fatigue is not adrenal insufficiency, which is a condition that can result in Addison's disease-the worst degree of adrenal insufficiency that can lead to serious illness or even death.

Adrenal fatigue is thought to be the result of a decline in the function of the adrenal glands, which play a vital role in our bodies' management of stress-physical, emotional and psychological. The adrenal glands secrete a complex array of hormones including cortisol, testosterone and estrogen that regulate a broad range of functions in our bodies. Adrenal fatigue sets in when the adrenal glands become weakened and in turn, their response to stress becomes insufficient.

Adrenal fatigue can be debilitating and can lead to serious health problems. People suffering adrenal fatigue usually find that they have trouble being active.

Does Your Dog Have a Fear of Thunder?

Fear of thunder and other loud noises is a common problem in dogs. No one really knows why some pets become afraid of noises and some do not. Dogs can easily develop these terrible sound sensitivities which tend to get worse the older the dog gets.

Left untreated the fear of loud noises can easily turn into a phobia (an excessive, persistent and irrational fear response to stimuli). The good news is that these fear-related problems can be successfully resolved with the right training and lots of patience.

A small recent study has found that certain dog breeds are more prone to developing noise phobias than other breeds. Many of these dog breeds at risk include breeds such as: German Shepherds, Collies, Beagles, and Basset Hounds.

Please realize that more research needs to be done in the area of fear of thunder since this particular single study was pretty small overall. This study did have another interesting finding: that dogs suffering from separation anxiety were also more likely to have noise and thunderstorm phobias.

What are the typical signs of a noise phobia, such as a fear of thunder?

Recognizing Common Signs of Cancer in Your Pet

Just say the word cancer and any of a host of undesirable thoughts will pop in your mind- and with good reason. Cancer is one of the most common of diseases among pets and increases as the pet ages. In dogs, the frequency of getting cancer is equivalent to that of a human being getting cancer. Additionally, it accounts for close to half the deaths of pets over the age of 10.

Just what is cancer and what causes it? Basically, cancer occurs when cell growth rates go out of control on, or inside, the body. What causes this chaos inside the system of the cell is still unknown-but the results have been well documented and the reputation is well known.

Some cancers such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer or testicular cancer can be largely prevented by spaying or neutering your pet while it is still very young (6-12 months or so). Other types, however, are not as easy to detect, causing difficult preventive methods.

Following are many common types of cancers seen in pets. Skin tumors in dogs should always be checked by a vet. Breast cancers have a high rate of malignancy in dogs- often 50%.

How Dog Pets Cure Senior Ailments!

Dog pets have for countless eons been heralded: "man's best friend!" They're always at the front door to greet their favorite working man or woman when they return from a tedious day's labor.

They patiently endure hours of solitude in an empty house ever listening for the sounds of their special person's return. And lo and behold, when that individual arrives, they lavish him, or her, with a welcome rivaling the adoration bestowed upon imperial rulers of ancient Rome.

Sometimes, the world turns on us for whatever reason, but our loyal dog pet never will. He stands with us no matter what the future brings.

We award them with special, personal names. We lovingly call them Prince, Sheba, Fido or any number of appellations. We create complete personalities and natural attitudes around the names we give them.

It usually doesn't matter what the dog breeds are. We don't care if they are a small dog that we can carry in a purse, coat pocket or in our arms.

They might even be a large dog that requires education with dog etiquette, and how to conduct itself on a leash.

Paralysis Injury: An Overview

People may suffer life-threatening injuries once they get involved in an accident. Typically, a person suffers much when his brain and the spinal cord are damaged, because both are the two of the most important and sensitive parts of the body. And any harm or damaged done to it may lead to serious injuries such as paralysis injury.

Paralysis injury is described as the loss of sensation and muscle function in the affected area of the human body. It can be a complete paralysis or partial paralysis in either one or both sides of the body.

Two most common forms of paralysis injury are paraplegia, which affects the lower half of the body, including legs; and quadriplegia, which affects the arms and legs.

The most common cause of paralysis is spinal cord injury. According to statistics, there are roughly 12, 500 to 15, 000 people who suffer from such injury every year. And more than half of this number is permanently paralyzed.

Chronic disease or illness and serious injury caused by an accident may damage the human spinal cord. Such accident can be sub-categorized as to accidental and intentional.

Cardiovascular disease and micronutrients

Cardiovascular disease is the greatest cause of mortality in developed countries and diet plays an important role in contributing to the development and progression of ischemic heart disease (IHD). The influences of general nutrition and micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals on the progression of IHD are poorly understood and recent studies have done little to clarify the situation. A micronutrient can be regarded as any essential dietary component present in trace amounts. Micronutrients have multiple roles both as participants in many important metabolic processes throughout the body and to counter the oxidative stress resulting from normal metabolism and daily exposure to environmental agents. They can also serve to facilitate communications, aid muscle contraction, and main- tain stable tissue environments. The most common cause of micronutrient deficiency is a consequence of reduced dietary intake and the role of a particular micronutrient is often uncovered when the consequences of dietary deficiencies such as selenium deficiency. However, micronutrient deficiency in cardiovascular disease could also be a product of increased losses resulting from the condition, medical therapy, or increased requirements, for example, due to greater levels of oxidative stress.
