Became A Modern Pilgrimage Destination Posted By: Soldan Tobowski

The need to go on pilgrimages has always been a human characteristic. People have made countless pilgrimages along the ancient paths looking for miracles promised or assigned penance. And it doesn't matter that today claims to be more rational, people will still walk hundreds of miles to attend sacred sites. In the Christian world, you'll not discover a sacred place more famous than Santiago de Compostela. Situated in Galacia, northern Spain pilgrims have traveled walked this route for more than a thousand years. What draws the pilgrims? Pilgrims come to thank the deities, and saints for all the blessing of the walk. The ill an informed are often brought to this site. Perhaps lauders is the only shrine better known.Once known as the path of St James or the oldest pilgrim routes to the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, also called the Way of St James. This is a group of old routes to the shrine leading to Compostela. It's on this site the cathedral has remained here since eight hundred AD. There are few shrines in the world that get so many visitors' from the faithful who come from around the world.Camino de Santiago de Compostela Modern Pilgrimage

Walking The Camino De Santiago Posted By: Robert Hamilton

In 2003 I set out for a trip to the Spanish Pyrenees with two of my good friends.
We set off, each with a back pack stuffed with everything you could possibly need for 4 weeks in the mountains, tents, cookers, boots, sleeping bags etc
After 8 long hours we arrived safely in the industrial city of Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque Country and the capital of the province of Biscay.
We had booked a room in the impressive Albergue Bilbao, which we found without any real trouble. After a whistle stop tour around all the sites, the most notable of which being the Guggenheim Museum, we bedded down for the night in preparation for our trip to the next stop of our journey, San Sebastian.
The next morning after a hearty breakfast we collected our rucksacks from our room and made our way like three over sized snails to the bus depot.
We ordered our tickets with a mixture of bad Spanish and a few nonsensical hand gestures and awaited our bus, which to our surprise turned up bang on time.Camino de Santiago Camino Franc©s Santiago de Compostela
