Surprising Eco Holidays - Tenerife Posted By: Henry Ashworth

It has an image of package holidays, a rowdy nightlife and last minute bargains to fill the large hotels in man-made resorts, but the image of Tenerife for many and the reality are two different things.

Far from being a mecca for teenagers on their first holiday without their parents, the island is increasingly become a destination for those who like their holidays to be green, and the environmentally aware tourist is just as likely to be looking at what the weather in Tenerife is like as those after a last minute bargain where anywhere will do.

The clue as to why it has a poor image for some but is a delight to others is beacuse there are two distinct parts, although both have the same renowned weather in Tenerife the south is made up of holiday resorts, while the north has forests and is largely undeveloped with traditional villages still there.

The authorities have actively pushed a green agenda for tourism, seeing it as a future market that will help Tenerife maintain her position as one of Europe's leading holiday destinations, and has just won an environment award from the UK's Independent Travel Association.green holidays carbon footprint weather in Tenerife carbon free renewable energy

Why Air Travel Is Now Even Safer Than Ever. Posted By: Brendan Wilde

Without wishing to tempt providence, it is interesting to reflect how much safer commercial air travel has become over the last quarter of a century. Anyone who was alive in the 1970s will surely have noticed how rare aircraft accidents have become in recent years. Barring terrorist outrages, it seems that fatal incidents, particularly in Europe, have been reduced to a trickle. In fact, many newer airlines like Virgin have never suffered any major accidents at all. What is even more remarkable is that this huge progress has been achieved during a period of unprecedented growth in passenger numbers and aircraft movements.

It seems light years away from the 1970s when the West was stricken by 3 dreadful crashes involving some 1,200 passengers and crew. In 1974, 346 souls, mainly British, were lost when a Turkish Airlines DC-10 crashed near Paris following a detached cargo door. Then, in 1977 came the terrible disaster when 2 jumbo jets collided on the tarmac at Tenerife airport with 583 casualties, the highest toll of any aircraft accident in history.aviation vacancies

Tenerife Beats The European Recession Posted By: Henry Ashworth

It's well known as an ideal winter holiday island for those who like to get away from Northern Europe to some warm weather and sunshine in the dark and cold months either side of the New Year, but Tenerife is more than just that as recent figures show that it's very firmly on the map for tourists year round.

And not only is it attracting tourists year round, it's managing to increase her visitor numbers while other popular holiday destinations see theirs fall.

Overall in Europe - though not worldwide - the number of people taking holidays is declining due to the current economic circumstances and reduced disposable household income.

In late 2011 Thomas Cook - one of the best known holiday firms in the world - saw their share price plunge as it approached its bankers for further funding - a sure sign that the holidays industry overall is experiencing difficult times.

Which makes it even more surprising that the number of people looking at a Tenerife map when deciding where to take their week or two away in the last year has increased, with visitor numbers in 2012 expected to be good as well.Tenerife map for tourists disposable household income Thomas Cook Tenerife map holidays industry civil unrest activity holidays

Villa Owners Face 2012 Holidays Squeeze Posted By: Henry Ashworth

Villa holidays have become part of the travel scene over the last quarter of a century, and offer holidaymakers an alternative to longer established hotel based trips.

And while not as popular as hotels, there's a good demand and villa holidays are available both through specialist companies and direct from owners who advertise them on themed internet sites.

Typically both companies and owners will show photographs of the accommodation inside and of the gardens and pool, availability, prices and reputable ones will also have reviews from previous renters.

Other information will include whether it's advised to hire a car or if the local amenities and beaches are within walking distance, how far it is to the nearest main airport along with offers of flights which can be included at the time of booking.

And the system works well, with private companies providing reps in the resorts and many private owners publishing a telephone number as a contact point in case of any problems that arise during a trip, and the choice is wide and varied - just look in a search engine for example for Tenerife villa holidays.villa holidays Tenerife villa holidays themed internet sites villa holiday owners full occupancy rates hotel holidays

Internet Service Keeps Tenerife Travel Industry Honest Posted By: Henry Ashworth

Your Tenerife travel itinerary can start with a street-level view of the island before you leave home, thanks to new technology holidaymakers can see where they're going before they even pick up a Tenerife map.

Tenerife is one of the seven islands that make up the Canaries. The Canaries belong to Spain, but are located much closer to Africa, just off the coast of the Sahara Desert.

Their southern location makes them an ideal place for those looking for year-round sunshine. Inviting beaches are always just a few minutes to a couple hours' drive from any location on the island.

The most populated and frequently traveled areas are along the coastline. This is where most of the island's hotels and resorts are located.

Much of the central part of the island is set aside as national parkland. Its 73 square kilometers is home to Mount Teide, the world's third highest volcano. Many parts of this UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site are closed to vehicles of any type in order to preserve its ecology.

Between the near-endless sunshine and the island's ecological wonders, the Tenerife travel industry typically draws over five million visitors per year.Tenerife map Tenerife map blog

Hinduism In A Catholic Country Posted By: Bobby Castro

Spain is acknowledged as one of the paragons of the Christian religion in the European Union. There is a percentage of the population that practices other religions in the country and amongst them is the Indian community.

Only about 30,000 Indians are currently found in the country and nearly all of them practice Hinduism. As travelers from Africa, they were traders and shopkeepers thriving in free ports of the Canary Islands and Tenerife as Spain was blockaded for allying with the Axis powers under Mussolini. When Ceuta and Melilla were declared as free ports, Indian businessmen set up trading houses and retail shops for the tourist trade of the area.

With the growing business influence in Spain, the religious practices of Indians continued to flourish. Spain for its part has an estimated 25,000 Hindus practicing one of the three Hinduism sects in the country. Because of business, the Ceuta and Melilla business moved more to the urban centers of the country, such as the port cities of Malaga and Barcelona. Another major hub for Indian business was Madrid and other burgeoning urban areas in Spain.Hinduism religion Catholicism Spain Indian

Key Facts To Know Relating To The Bichon Frise Posted By: Brent McCoy

The Bichon Frise (sometimes called the "Tenerife Dog" or "Bichon Tenerife" after the Canary Island they were first introduced to) is much like their French name suggests - a "curly white lap dog" - and is a popular pet that resembles a larger version of the Maltese. The breed first appeared in the 13th century, and was initially valued as items of trade and companions for Spanish sailors.

A number of their most distinguishing traits usually include their high level of friendliness, cheerful spirit and non-shedding coat that necessitates a high amount of grooming attention - which essentially make the Bichon Frise a frequent companion dog for families, allergy sufferers or apartment dwellers who are willing to commit to a high level of grooming.

The Bichon Frise is well-known for their playful, cheerful and affectionate character. They are generally friendly with strangers, which along with their small size often makes them unsuitable as a guard dog.

The Bichon Frise is also accepted to be quite intelligent - placing equal 45th in comparison with other dogs when considering their capacity to learn obedience instructions.Bichon Frise facts Bichon Frise information Bichon Frise info

British Tourists Find Home Comforts Abroad Posted By: Henry Ashworth

Spending a week or two abroad on a holiday is something many families look forward to throughout the year, and a break from the norm can help adults recharge their batteries while children discover somewhere new, or re-visit somewhere that has happy memories from the year before.

Relaxing, exploring, good weather, the beach and time as a family are some of the benefits of a holiday in popular destinations such as Tenerife, Lanzarote, France, Portugal and mainland Spain for many Europeans.

But there is another benefit of the family holiday - experiencing a different culture and language that can help younger members of the family discover that there is a different world from their homeland, and often it can help them to appreciate differences in culture that can be enjoyed, and for the diversity of different countries to be understood.

But is this being underminded for British families by the expansion of retail chains that are on every High Street back home opening up abroad?

For years now British, German and Irish bars and restaurants means a family can visit the popular holiday destinations such as Majorca, Lanzarote, Tenerife, the Costa del Sol, etc.shopping food Marks And Spencer Tesco Champs Elysees Lanzarote Weather forecast

Getaway To Sunny Tenerife Posted By: Ross L Marchant

For a cheap holiday that offers so much, you would struggle to find a better location in Europe than Tenerife.

As part of the Canary Islands, Tenerife boasts sun all year-round and has an abundance of luscious green landscapes and all important sandy beaches that come complete with crystal clear seas. The interior of the island is dominated by rocky, volcanic sights providing a startling geographical contrast to the outskirts of the island.

Whatever you are looking for, Tenerife is sure to have something that appeals to you. Popular with those looking for world-class night-life as well as a those looking for a quiet week away, there is an abundance of excellent options for all.

If you're looking for a lively resort, head for hard-partying Playa de Las Americas. Here you will find an abundance of cheaply priced bars and clubs offering cocktails that are perfect for cheap holiday thrills. Similarly, Los Cristianos is a part of the island that offers a party atmosphere with plenty of clubbing options.Tenerife Holidays All inclusive holidays

Tenerife - Great For Family Holidays - Now Good For Luxury Too Posted By: Henry Ashworth

A top destination for family holidays, somewhere that's cheap and cheerful, and an island where if you want to go drinking all night you'd feel at home.

All these descriptions could accurately describe a few holiday destinations when you look at a map of Europe, and one of the destinations many people might name would be Tenerife.

But while some of the stereotypes might still apply to Tenerife, it is possible to go upmarket and have a luxury holiday that would be on a level associated with more glamourous locations such as Monaco and the French Riveria.

When you look at a map of Tenerife it shows there are two airports, and most airlines include the island in their schedules, often year round due to the good weather it's well known for, and it's the accommodation that is going to cost more than the flights which are available via many regional airports in Europe.map of Tenerife luxury holidays Monaco French Riviera Dallas
