Parents And Teachers - Bridging The Disconnect Posted By: Priya Florence Shah

As a parent, you tend to have a very different approach to your child's education than his teacher has. Your primary focus will be on what kind of knowledge your kid picks up at school - the teacher is more interested in the manner in which that knowledge is acquired.

This is often a major source of parent teacher disconnect, but it is important to understand that the process is as important as the product - if not more so. After all, it is the process that decides how long and how usefully your child retains the knowledge. If you occasionally find yourself thinking that your child's teacher could be helping your child learn faster, remember this vital fact.

Another lacuna in the parent teacher relationship can be the parent's and the teacher's perception of how the child's education is progressing at school. As a parent, you may tend to trust your child's feedback on this more than his teacher's. Not surprising, there is a definite and understandable personal bias involved - a bias that has a lot to do with our perceptions of ourselves.being a parent education parent teacher parent teacher

Parent Teacher Networking - A Child's Decisive Winning Edge Posted By: Priya Florence Shah

Extensive research confirms that a proper parent-teacher relationship will result in a child performing better at school. The connection may not be immediately obvious, but the simple fact is that children who know that their parents take a personal interest in their school life take their studies more seriously.

Among other things, this is because all children seek their parents approval, and seeing a high degree of parental interest in their academic performance clearly shows them that better grades is a good way of getting it. Children of parents who do not take an active interest in their school life tend to view school as a separate and not necessarily important part of life.

By networking with their child's teachers, parents become partners in making their child's dreams come true, and in helping them reach their fullest potential. After all, it is teachers who give children the knowledge tools to help them set things in motion later in life.

When parents fail to recognize this and build amenable relationships with their child's teachers, they are losing out on an incredible opportunity to be part of their children's future.Parent teacher parents websites parent teachers children

Parental Involvement In A Child's Education Posted By: Priya Florence Shah

It is not sufficient for parents to involve themselves in extra-curricular activities at their child's school. Effective child management requires that they play a significant role in the education process, as well.

There are sound parenting principles behind this statement. After all, the bulk of a child's time is spent with the parents at home. This means that parents tend have a far greater say in child management, and also tend to be savvier about which approaches work and which don't with their child.

Moreover, they already have the child's trust - something that teachers can earn only over a long term. While many teachers do manage to strike up a very good rapport with their pupils, the unique parent-child bond cannot be replicated by teachers in a school environment.

Parents should leverage the advantages they have over teachers to bulwark their child's academic performance. This will practically guarantee their child's better grades and greater interest in the learning process.

Parent communication is a powerful tool. The stronger levels of trust and attention that parents command over their children can also be used to assist teachers in child management and imparting education in school.parent communication child management parenting education

Are You Truly Marriage Material? Posted By: Priya Shah

Is marriage becoming an outdated concept in a world of Hollywood-style divorces and disposable spouses? With celebrities filing for divorce almost every other day, and the awful stats on marriage and divorce, it's a wonder that people bother getting hitched in the first place.

But, I think the real reason divorce is hitting an all time high, and belief in marriage as an institution is waning, is that the new generation (and young women, in particular) have far more choices open to them today, than their parents ever had.

And by choices I mean the ability, means, and legal sanction to:

- Leave an abusive relationship. Whereas most women of our parent's generation would have chosen to stay in an abusive relationship (and still do), young women today have much greater support from parents, society and the law, and when faced with that choice, they are more likely to opt out, and with good reason).

- Pursue happiness aggressively. Whether that means choosing to leave an unfulfilling relationship because of irreconcilable differences, growing apart or career choices, young people have greater legal and societal support to end a marriage than their parents did.marriage relationships divorce commitment attract mate Priya Shah

To Be A Champion, Become A Child Posted By: Priya Shah

Have you ever wondered what successful people have that makes them successful? Ever wonder how those champion recruiters in your company manage, month after month, to get the most new recruits, the biggest bonuses, the largest paychecks?

Well let me tell you a secret. No one starts out as a Champion. Most of them started out like you and me. So what is it that makes a Champion different from the rest?

Champions have an attitude, a mindset that sets them apart from the rest. But most of these qualities are not exceptional.

Indeed each and every one of us possesses these qualities when we start out in life. But somewhere along the way we tend to lose them and diminish our own potential. To be a Champion, you must first become a Child! Let me explain:

1. Champions are Willing to Learn.

Children come into this world with an innate desire to learn, to understand the world around them. They are like sponges observing and absorbing every fact, every reaction. Because they know that their very survival depends on it.champion success business attitude mindset learn succeed adapt innovate child

Believe In Yourself And Become A Winner: Lessons From Hollywood Posted By: Priya Shah

A while ago I made it a point to watch the movie "Legally Blonde."

Not just for the bright, chirpy and eminently watchable Reese Witherspoon, but also because I loved the message it sent out.

If you didn't see the movie, all you need to know is that it's about a smart, fashion-conscious blonde who's told time and again, by her family and friends, that it'simpossible for someone like her to go to Harvard law school. That she's just not smart enough and doesn't have what it takes.

In the movie, the character played by Witherspoon not only goes to Harvard law, but also through sheer determination and intuition, graduates at the top of her class.

Its just the sort of movie people love. Because it makes us believe that we too are capable of achieving anything we want to.

It reminds us how we often let ourselves, and others, underestimate our own potential. And how we undermine our own sense of self, because of what we look like or where we came from. But why just let it remain a movie, when it can be the story of your life?confidence believe in yourself belief winner Priya Shah

Three Thoughtful Reasons Not To Change A Man Posted By: Priya Shah

This article could have been titled "Three Thoughtful Reasons NOT To Change A Person," because it applies to everyone, man or woman. But since women are usually the ones trying to change men, it seemed more appropriate to address it to you girls.

If there's one thing that all those years of married life have taught me, it's that attempting to change a man is an exercise in futility. But my reasons for not trying to change men have less to do with resigning myself to undesirable behaviour, than with mutual respect and consideration for a man's feelings.

Here's why I think it's not fair to men that we keep trying to change them.

1. He's entitled to his opinions and free will

I'm a big believer in a person's right to exercise his free will. As long as he blames no one but himself and is willing to accept the consequences of his actions, a man should have the right to make his own mistakes and learn from them.

Respect his opinions and let him be. And the next time you try to make him change his ways, imagine how YOU would feel if the tables were turned.change men behaviour respect free will consideration threats control hypnosis self-esteem

The Courage To Be Alive Posted By: Priya Shah

Are you truly alive? Do you feel that you're living the life you've always wanted to lead? How many of us really feel fulfilled in every aspect of our lives?

If we have a happy family life, our careers are not what we hoped they would be. If our careers are soaring, we're often busy getting a divorce or stuck in a dead-end relationship.

Most of us live lives of quiet desperation, knowing that we're more than we have become. That we can do so much more than we're doing. We become dead shells of ourselves, eking out an existence, giving up on the dreams that we had for ourselves, allowing our creativity and potential to languish in the process we call life.

To live fully takes courage. The courage to change. The courage to hurt. The courage to fail. Courage is defined as, "the quality of character which shows itself in facing danger undaunted or in acting despite fear or lack of confidence."

The fear of change keeps us from living our lives to the fullest.courage alive fear change character fulfilled happy creativity potential Priya Shah

Why Independence Is Attractive In A Woman Posted By: Priya Shah

As a woman who's experienced her fair share of personal tragedy and failed relationships, I feel very strongly that a woman should be completely independent of her man.

I don't mean that you should never let a man do anything for you. Independence to me means being able to take care of my own needs in a healthy manner, with or without a man. Independence promotes self-worth and self-esteem. It also gives you the confidence to walk away from an unfulfilling or abusive relationship.

Healthy, secure men are attracted to independent, confident women. Only insecure men like women who are clingy and dependent. And that's definitely not the sort of man you want to attract. If you like being the "damsel in distress", waiting for a man to "rescue" you from your loneliness, you'd better get used to being the doormat or "discard", when he trades you in for another model.

There are five forms of independence I believe every woman should cultivate:

1. Physical Independence:

Many codependent women fake illness (or choose to believe that they're ill) to get attention and get taken care of by their family.relationships independence women men attraction confidence freedom abuse self-esteem Priya

Ahimsa: The Greatest Form Of Self-love Posted By: Priya Shah

When Mahatma Gandhi gave us his philosophy of non-violence, or ahimsa, I believe he was preaching the highest form of self-love.

Self-love not only means accepting myself the way I am, warts and all. It also means never tolerating anything - even from myself - that harms or disempowers me in any way.

In the things that I will not tolerate, I include violence. It's easy to perceive violence from an external source. It's much harder to detect the internal violence we wreak on ourselves all the time.

We harm ourselves everyday by tolerating -

- The negative thoughts we think

- The unhealthy diet and lifestyle we live

- The limiting beliefs we harbour

- The unethical actions we take

To me, ahimsa means loving and respecting myself so that I accept nothing less than being my best self.

Every time I give in to my fears, cheat on my diet, tell a lie, lose faith in myself, blame and judge myself, or do anything to harm my body or mind, I am hurting myself. Every time I allow myself to be less than I am capable of being, I am committing an act of violence on myself.ahimsa non-violence self-love violence Gandhi Priya Shah
