Time Management Tips - 3 Straightforward Strategies Guaranteed To Help You Set Time Boundaries Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips are simply tools that require decisive action to be of actual use to you. And the actions needed generally center around establishing boundaries. Setting and then maintaining boundaries safeguards your effectiveness, giving you the space you need to accomplish your goals. Therefore, the more successfully you create and enact boundaries around your time, the more satisfied and productive you will be.

"You always have the right to decide how you use your time." The Finding Time Proactive Bill of Rights

Chances are, you were not taught how to set boundaries in school. And you may not have seen it done well while growing up. But with practice, you can develop proficiency, and enjoy consistent success.

For a strong start, correct a common misconception about boundaries:

When you set a boundary, you're not imposing something upon another person. You are describing a need. This is your assertive right!

Fundamentally, you set a new boundary to change what you do with your time. And that is precisely how you present your time boundary to others.

Here are three simple strategies to help you set a new boundary:

Time Boundary Strategy #1: Own Your Role In Your Problem.Finding Time Paula Eder Time Finder Expert time management tips setting boundaries assertiveness time tips set boundaries assertive boundary setting

Time Management Tips - Convert Perfectionist Paralysis Into Productivity Using 3 Strategies Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management strategies free you from habitual time habits that slow your progress. In many circles, chronic perfectionism is considered the ultimate time goblin. That's because the more of your time you feed it, the larger and more tyrannical it becomes.

Fortunately, perfectionism is a learned behavior. And that means you can unlearn perfectionism, replacing it with a more resilient and self-accepting approach to your work. You were not born a perfectionist! So commit to understanding and overcoming perfectionism. Your reward is that you will learn first-hand just how much more pleasurable and productive your life can become!

Three Strategies to Grow Far Beyond Perfectionism Towards True Productivity:

Beyond Perfectionism Strategy#1: Identify the original source of your perfectionist voice.

Sit back and relax, closing your eyes. Tune into the voice of your perfectionist as if you were tuning in to a radio station from long ago. Whose voices do you hear? Perhaps members of your family urged you to perform. Maybe teachers imposed unrealistic demands upon you. Then again, you may have modeled yourself upon someone who seemed larger-than-life, or whose standards were extreme. Get a sense of who this person was, and then direct your attention to yourself.Paula Eder Finding Time Time Finder Expert productivity Time management tips perfectionism perfectionist time tips time management strategies

Time Management Tips - Using Prochaska's Change Management Model In Tough Times Posted By: Paula Eder

"Not around, but through." Carl Jung

Time management tips can be used as tools to transform your life when the going gets tough. Do you see people around you struggle unsuccessfully? Their efforts may fall short because their understanding of how to weather the storms is incomplete. The secret to meeting profound challenges is embarking upon a journey within. This article explores how to utilize the essential first step of Professor James Prochaska's 6-stage change management model to initiate this voyage.

Developed in 1997 to support people in overhauling their lives, stage #1 of this system grapples directly with the confusion and ambivalence that accompany the early stages of real change.

Emerging through the Pre-Contemplation Stage

It is human nature to plan and act in rhythms and patterns. As change disrupts rhythms, you may feel painfully wrenched from a life you valued. Yet that very discomfort serves as your catalyst to lasting change. Deep down inside, you know that things will never be the same. Any comfort you hope to regain lies on the other side of struggle.

Here is your first step to navigate difficult times:

You must create space to consistently encounter uncomfortable feelings.Finding Time The Time Finder Expert Paula Eder change management transitions time management tips Prochaska crisis management

Time Management Tips - 5 Essential Crisis Management Tips For Tough Times Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips can help you weather crises when things fall apart. Using your time wisely can literally become a lifesaver. Not only will it enable you perform essential tasks; it also provides you with essential breathing space to get your bearings and safeguard your health.

Crisis Tip #1: Attend only to immediate responsibilities.

You may find that you initially shut down emotionally; this helps you remain in coping mode long enough to attend to current demands. Allow this protective shield to remain in force until you can take time for yourself. Your time frame will focus on your immediate situation, which is appropriate. Only deal with the present necessities, and let the big picture emerge before committing yourself further.

Crisis Tip #2: Release emotions in a safe setting.

Once you have some breathing space, step back. Find a safe space, either by yourself or with trusted friends or a guide, and give yourself time to let out your feelings about whatever has occurred. You'll notice I didn't say "explore" but "let out." You will be able to take time to explore after your situation has stabilized.Finding Time Paula Eder Time Finder Expert time management tips crisis crisis management crisis management tips

Time Management Tips - 3 Essential Steps To Turn Plans Into Top Products Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips revitalize your projects when you move yourself from resistance to taking action steps. Easier said than done? Absolutely. Always has been and will be, as this ancient saying confirms:

"Talk doesn't cook rice." (Chinese proverb)

Taking time to plan out your activities is important, of course. But it is possible to go overboard on the planning front.

Does translating a plan into action present a challenge for you? Take this quiz to find out:

1. T/F __ Beginning a project is my favorite part.

2. T/F __ I tend to create alternate plans for projects, when all I need to do is proceed with my first plan.

3. T/F __ I often question whether the conditions are right to start in.

4. T/F __ By the time I've "firmed up" my plans, I'm short on time to put them into action.

If you answer, "true" to any of these questions, here are 3 steps to help you mobilize yourself.

Step #1: Beam your plans back down to earth.

By gently shifting your focus from the pie in the sky to the work that sits on your plate, you prepare your energy for taking action.Paula Eder Finding Time Time Finder Expert productivity time tips Time management tips planning

Time Management Tips - Protect Your Priorities With Effective Boundaries In Calm And Chaotic Times Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips help you chart out your time. But what do you do when confronted with a sudden onslaught of outside demands? What about the endless swirl of distractions that call to you, both online and off? This is when you will find that strong boundaries "put teeth" in your plans.

It is helpful to identify when you set boundaries, and how. Some people naturally establish a schedule in advance, but cave in to last-minute appeals. Others may ad lib their way through the day, yet speak up assertively to stay on track.

Is one better than the other? Not really. Your productivity and peace of mind will dramatically increase as you learn to establish boundaries in both calm and chaotic times. These abilities serve different functions, and their benefits create an upward spiral of positive reinforcement.

Boundaries in Chaotic Times

Establishing and maintaining your time boundaries is a challenge anytime. When you are under pressure, it is harder still. In stressful times, set time boundaries to maintain your energy, to find the space to breathe, and to reflect. The more you protect your plans from low-priority distractions, the more confidence you gain.Finding Time Time Finder Expert Paula Eder boundaries time management tips time tips time management strategies boundary setting productivity

Time Management Tips - 3 Simple Steps To Make Your Online Time Work Well For You Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips are of prime importance when technology transforms how you communicate. How can you capitalize on vital new developments while enhancing your life off-line?

The Annenberg Center for the Digital Future, based at the University of Southern California, has pointed out the challenge this presents. Their 2011 Digital Futures Report cites that fully 50 percent of Americans it interviewed last year said they felt ignored by family members who spent too much time online.

Fortunately, tuning into what works best for you personally can help you create a balanced approach. Your important relationships can then continue to flourish, while you progress with online networking.

Where Do You Stand?

It's best to start with your own assessment. Do these findings translate out to your life? If so, where do you appear on the continuum? In the first half of the decade, people reported spending an average of 26 hours per month with their families. By 2008, however, that shared time had dropped to about 18 hours. That's more than a 30 percent decrease!

An easy way to get a quick overview is to roughly track the amount of time you spend with family members and friends.Paula Eder Time Finder Expert Finding Time time management tips social networking blogging

Time Management Tips - How To Use The 2 Column Method To Restore Focus To Your Day Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips can take you far beyond basic schedules and to do lists. The 2 Column Method for Planning AND Review is designed to help you enhance your effectiveness and reduce the disconnect between your deepest value and how you live today.

You can adapt the 2 Column Method to almost any time management tools you use. Column #1 is where you plan out your schedule. In Column #2, you document how your day actually goes.

I recommend filling out Column #1 the night before. The following day, fill out Column #2 as you go along. Note any variations from your initial plan. Over time, you learn to make your advance scheduling increasingly realistic.

For example, "6 A.M., Get Up" may go in the first column as you sketch out your upcoming day. If that's when you actually get started the following morning, write "Done" in Column #2. If, however, you get up 15 minutes later than that, record "6:15" in your second column. If you plan to exercise for 20 minutes whenever you can fit it in, write, "Exercise, 20 minutes" in the first column.Paula Eder Time Finder Expert Finding Time time management tips productivity time management tools

Time Management Tips - How To Boost Effectiveness Using Delay Of Gratification Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips can empower you to explore your full potential. Your time choices construct your life, one second at a time, ultimately. So every time you make a focused and effective time choice, you actually become more powerful and more positive about your prospects. So it's most rewarding to structure your plans around the excellent guidance offered in The Road Less Traveled.

Scott Peck's first book, The Road Less Traveled, achieved worldwide prominence in 1983. Translated into 20 languages, with over 7 million copies sold, it stayed on the New York Times Best Seller List longer than any other paperback book, before or since.

It remains popular because it helps readers make tough choices to solve profound, often lifelong problems. And each of the 4 disciplines that Peck promotes can translate directly to time management strengths.

How would you like to successfully tackle the biggest problem in your life? You can make a strong start by utilizing the power of the first discipline discussed in The Road Less Traveled: delay of gratification. Which of the following attributes would move you forward?Paula Eder Time Finder Expert Finding Time time management tips productivity delayed gratification

Time Management Tips - For Setting Effective Boundaries Without Backlash, Use 3 Top Strategies Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips will make you more effective, so long as you learn how to relate assertively without lapsing into aggressiveness. The line may be a thin one, but keeping on the right side of it can protect you from painful backlashes.

What is your personal experience with setting boundaries so far? Take a quick quiz to see where you stand:

Will Your Boundaries Be Respected?

T/F __ I resist setting boundaries because I fear backlashes.

T/F __ I don't get mad easily, but when I do, watch out!

T/F __ I count on anger to put teeth in my boundaries.

T/F __ Somehow, my boundaries never seem to stick.

T/F __ I could maintain my boundaries easier if I didn't feel guilty.

Did you answer true to any of these? They serve as valuable signals for common pitfalls that lead to circular efforts and frayed nerves.

1. Do not set boundaries out of anger.

If you are not ready to set a boundary calmly, you are not ready to set it at all. Avoid the temptation to work off of righteous indignation. No matter how you may rationalize an angry ultimatum, others will rightly feel blamed, and resent it.Finding Time Paula Eder Time Finder time management tips time tips setting boundaries assertiveness

Time management strategies for achieving goals require you to make lots of time choices. Some of them are quite difficult. You must also develop good, substantial time boundaries. This takes skill, discipline and knowing your priorities inside out.

To strengthen your resolve, take a moment to picture your day as a basket. This basket holds all the time that you have to work with for the next 24 hours. Each activity that you put into the basket, obviously, takes up space. This limits what you can include.

You probably have a basket that is full, if not overflowing right now!Finding Time The Time Finder Expert Paula Eder change management transitions Priorities

Time Management Tips - 5 Essential Steps To Reduce Stress During Time Crunches Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips really help you manage yourself when you are stressed, rushed, and caught in a time crunch. Those are, after all, the times when it's hardest to make your best time choices.

It's hugely helpful to know your particular stress profile. What are you most likely to do when pressure mounts? Do you freeze, plunge ahead blindly, revert to old work habits that don't work so well? The better you know your patterns, and the more you are prepared to treat yourself with respect and compassion, the sooner you can step in and replace old default settings with a fresh approach. Add these techniques to your mindfulness based stress reduction regimen to broaden your effectiveness.

Here are 5 Stress-Reduction Steps to Take the Crunch Out of Your Time

Stress Reduction Step #1: Work Within Your Limits.

It sounds easy, doesn't it? It is not so easy. You want so much for this project to reflect your full range of talents. Take a deep breath. Recognize the reality: you lack the time to accomplish all that you had hoped to. Straightforward as it sounds, you need to let go of important options!Paula Eder Time Finder Expert Finding Time time management tips stress reduction stress management deadlines personal productivity mindfulness based s

Time Management Tips - How To Powerfully Transition Through Crises Using 5 Resilient Strengths Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips have powerful applications beyond enhancing performance. They can guide you to not only survive but actually grow through serious crises. Emergencies can develop at any time, so cultivate your crisis management skills and time management skills accordingly!

Strength Training for Times of Crises - 5 Crisis Tips:

Crisis Tip #1: Cultivate gratitude as a grounding strength.

The more you appreciate everything you have as a temporary gift, the more realistic your expectations become. You accept deep down that life is change, and develop a lower center of gravity. You build resilience and latitude, responding nimbly when challenged. What's more, gratitude helps you respond from a perspective of creative abundance, rather than rigid scarcity. That translates into lowered stress, and problem solving that is both creative and cooperative.

To strengthen your gratitude attitude, try this daily exercise: every morning or evening, write down 3 things you are grateful for. Call these to mind as you drop off to sleep, and when you rise in the morning. See how this energy shift reaches into your subconscious, enhancing your perspective and flexibility when problems arise.

Crisis Tip #2: Activate your awareness.Paula Eder Time Finder Expert Finding Time time management tips crisis management gratitude time tip crisis tip cultivate gratitude time management st

Time Management Tips - How To Simplify Establishing Time Boundaries Using 3 Guaranteed Strategies Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips are great ideas that require action steps to be genuinely effective. And those action steps usually involve setting boundaries. Setting effective boundaries protects your productivity and gives you valuable "breathing room". The more constructively you set and maintain boundaries, the happier and more effective you will be.

Boundary Strategy #1: Own Your Role In Your Problem

Provide the context for your new time boundary by describing your current problem. Readily acknowledge any part you yourself have played in creating that problem.Finding Time Paula Eder Time Finder Expert time management tips setting boundaries assertiveness

Time Management Strategies - 3 Golden Rules Use Incremental Progress To Create Impressive Results! Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management techniques are famous for breaking ambitious projects into workable increments. Indeed, that is the only way to create substantive progress. Why, then, can moving forward seem like some of the most arduous work you've ever engaged in?

The vison that fuels your enthusiasm absolutely must be maintained. Protect it like a sacred flame. You know the adage, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Indeed, our great cities are built brick-by-brick. Imagine the challenge of keeping sight of the goal while stacking bricks for months or even years on end! So it is for us, very often, as we build toward our goals.

Commit to these 3 Golden Rules as you implement the action steps you've so carefully laid out to achieve your dream of success.

First Golden Rule: Begin immediately, and also take all the time you need. A life journey isn't a race!

Beginning immediately and taking all the time you need is no contradiction. When you start out, remember that finding time to reach your goal probably involves many steps, including:

* Changing your time priorities.

* Setting time boundaries.

* Letting go of some old habits around time.Finding Time Time Finder Expert Paula Eder time management tips action steps time management skills golden rule for success personal effectiveness rea

Time Management Tips - 3 Guidelines To Transform Perfectionist Paralysis Into Productivity Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips are intended to change you. They transform you by helping you break time habits that hinder your progress. Are you willing to change how you see yourself to become more effective? For example, think of perfectionism. Habitual perfectionism is the ultimate time goblin. The more of your time you feed it, the larger and more tyrannical it becomes.

Your first step is to let go of dreams of being perfect. Perfectionism is a learned behavior that you can now unlearn. After all, you were not born a perfectionist. So commit to understanding and overcoming perfectionism. Learn first-hand how much more pleasurable and productive your life can become!

Three Strategies to Overcome Perfectionism:

Find the source of your perfectionist voice.

Record the perfectionist messages you give yourself.Finding Time Paula Eder Time Finder Expert time management tips perfectionism perfectionist your best is good enough

Time Management Tips - Prochaska's 6 Essential Stages Of Change To Enhance Effectiveness Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips can prepare you to undergo changes - sometimes, profound ones. Given how tumultuous times can be, the better you understand the process of creating positive change in your life, the more effective your time planning will be.

Consider this 6-stage model of change, initially developed by Professor James Prochaska in 1997 to support people in overhauling their lives. Here is how you can apply this model to effectively manage your time choices:

1) Precontemplation Stage

Many profound journeys to restructure time begin with simple dissatisfaction. You know that "somehow," something isn't quite right. But you may have no idea how your own time choices interfere with your effectiveness.

Perhaps you blame others. Perhaps you feel there is something wrong with yourself that can't be changed. But what's important is that you realize you want to make a change! So the exploration begins.

2) Contemplation Stage

Once you realize that changes in how you use your time can be made, you still may be beset by self-doubts. Old patterns have trade-offs, after all. For every change you want to introduce, some other time choice must be let go.Paula Eder Finding Time Time Finder Expert productivity time tips Time management tips Prochaska

Time Management Tips - How To Energize Your Time Priorities Using A Values Journal Posted By: Paula Eder

Time management tips can best help you when you have created crystal clear priorities. Once you anchor your priorities with values, your day will be infinitely more rewarding!

What Makes a Value a True Value?

For a value to be a true value, it must meet these seven criteria as defined by Louis Raths. Sidney Simon, Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts, credits Raths as "the true father of values clarification".

1. It must be freely chosen.

2. It must be chosen from other alternatives.

3. It must be chosen after deliberate reflection.

4. It must be prized and cherished.

5. It must be publicly affirmed.

6. It must be acted upon repeatedly.

7. It must be consistent with your other values.

Journal Your Way to Clearer Values with This Simple Exercise

One way to clarify your personal values is through the use of a journal. Sidney Simon calls this a "Values Journal".

Over a period of three to six months, record your most important thoughts, feelings and ideas. Review your entries, identify emerging and consistent patterns and write them down.

How do they represent your strongest and clearest values?Paula Eder Finding Time Time Finder Expert productivity time tips Time management tips values
