Nhtsa Closes Volt Investigation Posted By: Bobby Castro

Last Friday, federal safety regulators have formally closed their investigation on the fires that occurred with the Chevrolet Volt. The report found no evidence of a defect and the plug-in vehicles posed no greater fire risk as any other vehicle on the street meeting an accident.

Despite the favorable results, the main problem would be rebuilding consumer confidence in the vehicle. In the larger picture, the safety concerns regarding the reliability of electric vehicles can hurt the advancement of electric cars in the automotive market. According to many industry experts, while the fires were unfortunate, it was good it occurred within testing facilities but these create chilling effect to the interest of the general public to accept new technologies.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also released for the first time photos relating to the aftermath of the Volt catching fire last June. This fire occurred in a remote area near Burlington, Wisconsin and was discovered after it had burned itself out. Also included in the release are videos as to the November testing, where it showed a firefighter fighting flames in a wooden shed where two Volt battery packs were placed under observation.NHTSA Chevy Volt plug in electric fire safety

The Time Ago Did You Get Tires Posted By: sophie w John

Was it like in 2009? Or was it new?.. Hopefully it was more modern because tires don't last forever.

We all want to understand how old our applied tires are because we should know when we must save money to obtain new ones, right?

If you ever definitely look at how to look for the age of a list of usedtires, its easy to recognize when those tires were actually maded by reading its Tire Identification Number - most used tires stores along with other people refer to them for the reason that tires serial number. Different from the automobiles VIN number, the Tire Identification Numbers are really batch codes included upon new AND used tires to spot the week and all four that that specific made use of tire was made.used tires buy used tires cheap tires discount tires

Dui Defendant's Facts On Field Sobriety Tests Posted By: Autumn Lockwood

Are you facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol? When you are, then you most probably had to undergo one or two field sobriety tests so that the arresting officer could evaluate if you were high or drunk. You need to contact your DUI attorney as quickly as possible after you have been arrested for DUI in the state of California. You also must make sure that you inform yourself about field sobriety tests. Your DUI lawyer will want to determine what kind of field sobriety testing was used to determine your intoxication level. This guide can help you understand those field sobriety tests and answer some concerns you might have about them.

Which Kind of Field Sobriety Test Were You Given?

After you have been stopped by a law enforcement officer on suspicion of impaired driving, she or he may compel you to ultimately perform a field sobriety test, or FST, there, along the side of the street.Fst fsts field sobriety test sobriety test

The Volt Upgraded To Address Issues Posted By: Bobby Castro

General Motors, in response to the current federal investigation undertaken by the National Highway Transport Safety Agency, has announced that major structural changes to the Chevy Volt. The new installations would include the upgrade of the steel structure and the liquid coolant system around the battery array.

The changes were needed after two Volts caught fire after being intentionally crashed during tests undertaken by the federal agency. The blueprints for the design upgrades were given to federal safety regulators to directly address the fire risks found with the plug in hybrid. The carmaker is optimistic that with these changes, the fire risk would be diminished altogether and address public concerns about the safety of the vehicle in case of a crash.

In a statement, the NHTSA said that the proposed changes should address the issue but reiterated that the investigation on the Volt is still ongoing. The changes are called as voluntary enhancements and said that both the car and the battery would be recalled. The vehicle just needs to be taken to the dealership in order for the enhancements to be installed.electric car Volt enhancements NHTSA

Honda Faces More Issues With Civic Hybrids Posted By: Bobby Castro

Honda, in response to the latest issues involving its much-ballyhooed Civic Hybrids, have extended the warranties on its 2006 to 2011 gas tanks as recent investigations found that small cracks may develop in the gas tanks, resulting in gas leaks to occur.

According to National Highway Safety Administration's guidelines, gas leaks can be basis for auto recalls. Honda officials though responded saying that the Japanese automaker that the gas leaks is not a safety issue meriting such drastic action.

Chris Martin, a Honda spokesperson, said "The potential fuel leakage is very small from the top area of the tank where the fuel filler meets the tank." He added that this was not in an area where a possible ignition source can set the gas aflame. Furthermore, Honda engineers said did not expect every Civic Hybrid to have the same leakage issues.

In case leaks occur, the automaker promised that they would replace the fuel tanks of their car. Honda made the NHTSA aware of its extended warranty in a filing as required under the law.electric cars Honda Civic hybrid gas leak

Tire Recalls For Tread Separation Still Plague Automotive Sector Posted By: Hiteshbhoi

Firestone had to undertake a massive tire recall back in 2000 involving tires made for SUVs. Out of some 14 million sold, the approximately 6.5 million still on the road were recalled.

The story, highlighted by numerous rollover deaths, remained in the news for months, and had a severe impact on the manufacturer. Among other things, angry consumers often were told that replacement tires were not in stock. The recall did not go smoothly. Congressional investigations followed, and new tire safety legislation was enacted.

Reminiscent of those days are two recent tire recalls involving the same defect that prompted the 2000 recall, namely tread separation and high failure rates, risking dangerous blowouts. The danger is exacerbated in hot summer months.

Now, as if there are not enough woes with recalls of Chinese products, you can to the list of tire recalls some 450,000 tires imported from China. This recall is especially troublesome as will become evident from the story.

The current problem arises out of instances of tread separation of truck tires sold to U.S. distributors. The tires are light truck radials imported from the Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co. located in Hangzhou, China.hyundai maryland cars automotive autos car dealers car

Ways In Which A Car Accident Attorney In Los Angeles Will Get You Out Of Trouble Posted By: Darreil Palmer

Los Angeles is renowned for freeway traffic and freeway car crashes. Thousands of automobile wrecks occur on California's roadways each year. L.A. possesses the highest rates of fatal and serious car accidents in California. These cause several injuries like amputation and brain injury, which might end in coma or even wrongful fatality. A serious car crash can also cause permanent and severe disability. Injuries to the head, the spine as well as the bones brought on by the direct force and trauma of a serious car crash can disable people temporarily or permanently. In such worst case scenarios, a car accident attorney in Los Angeles may come as a savior to aid you in getting compensation from the people accountable for your accident.

A survey of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that 80 % of car accidents and up to sixty-five percent of near-miss car accidents occur due to distraction of drivers for not over 5 seconds prior to the collision. Dialing and talking on cellphones multiply the risk of accidents by 2.8% and 1.3 % respectively. Texting, on the other hand, multiplies this likelihood of automobile accidents by 23.2%.personal injury attorney Los Angeles car accident attorney Los Angeles

Confidence In Volt Dented With Recent Issues Posted By: Bobby Castro

The recent federal investigation into the Chevy Volt battery pack after one had caught fire and two had overheated after crash tests have not only become a technical issue for the carmaker but also a crisis in the confidence in the safety and reliability of their plug-in hybrid.

The first reaction from the GM leadership was to offer its Chevy Volt purchasers a buy back of their vehicles. Once dozens have turned up to avail of the offer, the company changed tact and instead offered free loaner cars for the Volts until such time that all safety issues have been resolved.

One forgotten fact is that the battery fire issue was found back in June, when a Volt was crash tested and a fire had occurred three weeks after such test. It was surprising though that it took both the carmaker and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration five months to apprise customers and users on proper safety protocols on battery safety and draining power after any accident occurs.

On another front, GM is now working on a technical solution to the problem.electric car Volt battery fire NHTSA

Orlando Child Injury Lawyer: Best And Creative! Posted By: jonyparker

A school bus accident is accountable for over one hundred sufferers each year in the United States according to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) with an supplementary seventeen thousand more children who undergo injuries. This type of accident most usually occurs when the school bus is in a collision with other motor vehicles or when a child is getting on or off the bus. While it seems to puzzle all logic, most school buses do not have seat belts in place or any type of self-control system. Injuries persistent on a school bus do not unavoidably have to engross a collision; many children are offended when a driver slam on the breaks, takes a turn too sharp or too sudden, etc. A child can effortlessly be unnerved with proper fetters. Because a lawmaking entity, such as a school district, is frequently named in a school bus accident, the ensuing legal claim is often quite multifarious.Orlando child injury attorney Orlando child injury law firm

Car Safety Ratings: What Do They Mean? Posted By: Hiteshbhoi

Every car commercial tells you that their car has a five-star safety rating. Does this score really mean anything? What tests are being performed and who does the measuring?

The Organizations

In the United States, there are two organizations that score cars on safety ratings, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The NHTSA is run by the Department of Transportation and is sometimes called the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) or the government five star rating.

Frontal Collision Ratings

The NHTSA gets its data by running a car directly into a wall at 35 mph. The IIHS does a different test, where the impact is offset, and not directly in the middle. The IIHS test does a better job of mimicking real-life accidents. While most cars do well in directly head-on collisions, most real-life collisions are offset.

The NHTSA scores with five stars. Five stars means that there is ten percent or less chance of injury. Injury is defined as something life-threatening or for which you will need immediate hospitalization. Four stars is between eleven and twenty percent chance of injury. Three stars is between twenty-one and thirty-five percent chance.auto parts Pontiac Pontiac auto parts Pontiac accessories

One of the best things you can do to help increase your automotive safety is to learn defensive driving.
