Guhagar ' Posted By: Flin Martyn

Guhagar is a coastal town in the Ratnagiri district of the state of Maharashtra. Guhagar is primarily known for its virgin beaches. Unlike the other beaches in Maharashtra where the sand is a mixture of black and white particles, Guhagar is said to have white sandy beaches.
Guhagar is one of the most prominent upcoming tourist destinations in Maharashtra. The main reason of this popularity is due to the fact that the sea at Guhagar beach is not considered to be rough thus making the beach a very safe place for families with children. A lot of tourists thus can venture out into the sea for a bath. A lot of shacks and small eateries have come up around the beach.

Guhagar is also known as a temple town. There are a lot of temples in and around Guhagar. Vyadeshwar Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is the main deity of a lot of Kokanastha Chitpavan Brahmins. The Velaneshwar Shiva temple located right on the sea shore is also frequented. This temple has sub-shrines dedicated to Vishnu, Ganesha, and Kalabhairav.Guruvayur Guruvayur hotels hotels in Guruvayur

Hospet is the gateway to the ruins of Hampi, a World Heritage site under the archaeological survey of India. The new city or Hosapete as Hospet is officially known is located in the district of Bellary in the state of Karnataka.

Hospet was built by Krishnadevarraya of the Tuluva Dynasty and one of the main rulers of Vijayanagara in memory of his mother Nagalambika. Hospet was initially named Nagalapura, and even now a small village between Hampi and Hospet is known by that name. Hospet was also considered as the entry point to the Vijayanagara for all the travellers who came from Greece and China during the Golden Era of Krishnadevarraya.

On the banks of the Tungabhadra River, 12 km from Hospet is the fallen medieval city of Vijayanagara, now known to tourists all over the world as Hampi.

You can set up your base in Hospet if you are visiting Hampi. A lot of hotels in the budget, middle and high end can be found in and around Hospet.
Kannur- A Coastal Beauty Posted By: Flin Martyn

Kannur is a beautiful sea side district in the state of Kerala. Also called by its colonial name of Cannanore which was coined by the British during their reign, it is the largest city in the north of Malabar.

This beach town has a rich colonial past, the relics of which can be seen even today. Kannur has in fact been voted one among one of the ten best tourist destinations in the country in a popular survey. Its popularity is mainly owed to its serene beaches, which has till date kept commercialization at bay. The Payyambalam Beach, Meenkunnu Beach, Mopila Bay and Kizhunna Ezhara Beach are some of the popular beaches in the Kannur region. The Payyambalam beach is one of the popular beaches here and is 2 km from the town of Kannur. This idyllic beach is famous for the beautiful sunset and sunrise view it offers. Lapped by the Arabian Sea, it has a garden that houses a massive sculpture of a mother and child sculpted by noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.

The town is also dotted with several religious places of worship that is flocked by devotees especially during the festive seasons.Kannur Hotels Hotels in Kannur Kannur

Trip To Jogulamba Temple, pushpagiri, Vontimitta Posted By: hoparoundindia

Day 1

We visited some of the ancient temples in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh long time back.I just want to share some of my experiences here. We started our journey early in the morning i.e at 6:30 a.m( it s early for me :-) ) in the car from Hyderabad.Alampur is 230 kms from Hyderabad. It is on the left side of the road, road is a bit confusing we asked some guys about the route. We traveled for 15 to 20 mins on a small road. We found many auto rickshaws and bullock carts in this way.We passed through a small railway station on our left side.Name of that station is Jogulamba halt. Then we confirmed that we were in a correct route. We reached Alampur in 2 hours. There are 3 temples to see in Alampur.

Navabrahma temple
Sangameshwara temple
Jogulamba temple

First we went to Navabrahma temple. There are nine small temples with Siva shrine in different colours

Nava Brahma Temple

Taraka Brahma.
Swarga Brahma.
Padma Brahma
Garuda Brahma
Bala Brahma
Kumara Brahma
Arka Brahma,
Vira Brahma
Vishva Brahma.jogulamba temple nandalur devuni kadapa ameen peer dargah rayala seema temples shakthi peeth 108 temples pushpagiri

Makara Sankranthi (pongal) In India Posted By: hoparoundindia

Pongal (Makara Sankranthi) is one of the major festivals of India. This is the only one Indian festival which falls on the same date i.e January 15th of every year. From this day The Sun moves from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn or from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana. Many people believe that Uttarayana is very good season.Legend Bheeshma (Grand father of both Pandavas and Kauravas) wanted to die only in this Uttarayana and for that he waited for nearly 21 days on the bed of arrows. I can say that this is a festival of Farmers ( of course all the people celebrate this festival). It was very good when I was in the school because we used to get 15 days holidays for this festival.Ladies put rangoli in front of their houses for one month during this season. They decorate this rangoli very well.

People celebrate this festival for 3days.
1.Bhogi
2.Sankranthi
3.Kanuma
Bhogi: First of these 3 days is Bhogi.Andhra Pradesh Makar Sankranti Sankranthi telugu south india crops celebrations recreation holy cow haridasu muggulu rangoli

A Pleasant Break In A Long Walk.... Posted By: hoparoundindia

We were on our way to do the Circumambulation of Tiruvannamalai and visiting the Lord Arunachaleshwara in Tamil Nadu. Six of us started off by mid day of 6 Jan 2012, on this 17km walk; it was a hot and sunny day. We kept crossing many foreigners on our way and one of them a school teacher named Voila from Canada was also walking along with us. She told us that after reading the teachings of Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi which impressed her deeply, she came down to India to spend a couple of months here. We were pleasantly surprised to note that she is checked into a small home stay at Tiruvannamalai and does walk up and down to the Ramanasramam daily. After walking for 3 hrs we reached Ramanasramam and walked in with lot of expectations.
First we stopped by the big hoarding detailing the Asram site map. After checking out all the places to visit we went on to Bhagavan Samadhi Shrine. It is a huge and peaceful hall where a Shiva Linga is placed on the Samadhi of Bhagavan and a close to real life idol is also there.travel pilgrim Arunachalam Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi Gosalas Ramanasramama Ved Pathasala temple religious

A Pilgrimage Turned Picnic- Murudeswara Posted By: hoparoundindia

We keep travelling at every given opportunity. We capped our travel calendar of the year 2011 in December with a trip to Murudeswara in Khatkal district of Karnataka state in India. It was a completely unplanned trip as we were at Sringeri on 4 Dec and had planned to return to Bangalore. We realized that few tourists were proceeding to Murudeswara which is at a distance of 150km and not more than 3hrs from Sringeri. As it is on the Arabian seashore my two boys were excited to go on the trip. So, there we were on NH13 by 11 am on 4 Dec moving towards Murudeswara in our family car. We got on to state highway after some while and were back on to NH 17 and a left from Indian Oil petrol filling station lead us to our destination Murudeswara.

Murudeswara is a temple of Lord Shiva and is popular for the 20 storied and 237 ft high Raja Gopuram. We had to strain our necks to get a complete view of the Gopuram. It is built on the Kanduka Giri hill surrounded by sea on all three sides. The temple premises are very clean and pleasant.travel temple vacation nature murudeshwara lord shiva shore statue height temple at shore statue on goupram south india temples
