Hsc Tutoring- Tips For Success In Your Hsc Trial Exams Posted By: Amit Kothiyal

At the time of writing this article, w are in the middle of term 2. Most year 12 students have their HSC trial exams in early term 3, which means while theres still (almost) an entire term left, it is about time students begin to prepare specifically for their trial exams.
Learn to use the HSC Standards Packages
For almost all HSC subjects, the Board of Studies has standards packages publicly available for students to read arc.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/go/hsc/std-packs/. We recommend students look at the standards packages for their subjects they will give you an idea of the quality required for a band 6 response. Standards packages are particularly useful for humanities subjects like HSC English where your expression and writing style also come into play. Get a feeling of what is acceptable expression, and details like general paragraph length, the way literary techniques are referenced, how often a text is quoted and the length of quotes etc.Hsc tutors hsc tutoring maths tutoring mathematics tutor physics tutoring physics tutor chemistry tuytoring chemistry tutors hsc tutoring Sydney

Hsc Physics Tips For Success Posted By: Amit Kothiyal

Doing well in HSC Physics requires a good mix of different skills. You shall mainly need to be great at understanding physical concepts, understanding their impacts on society / environmental issues, being able to form cohesive arguments to support your answers, and command some basic maths skill. There are already a tonne of articles on the blog or forum posts dealing the more conventional study tips, so we thought we might cover some often missed points on the subject. So doing well in HSC physics involves:
Always refer back to the syllabus
All HSC physics exams, whether internal or external, will have to test students within the bounds of the syllabus. Syllabus dot-points are worded in a way that makes them look like exam questions (or the exam questions you get are simply paraphrasing certain syllabus dot-points). If you prepare brief notes covering every dot-point before each exam, you shall guarantee yourself the knowledge needed to score a decent mark at the least. It is therefore a great idea to make yourself syllabus dot-point summary notes for this subject.hsc physics physics tutoring physics tutors physics tutor

Year 10- Hsc Subject Selection Tips Posted By: Amit Kothiyal

Year 10 is a critical time for prospective HSC students. The reason is that the Preliminary subjects you choose in year 10 for year 11 will determine what subjects you ultimately do for the HSC. If you get your subject selection wrong, you may be stuck doing subjects you don"t particularly enjoy, or subjects that offer limited benefit in terms of scaling.
HSC scaling "" a brief reintroduction
The subjects you choose in year 10 determine how much you will benefit from the process of scaling. Briefly, scaling refers to the process by which raw assessment marks (e.g. from your internal exams and external HSC exams) are converted into scaled marks, which are marks on a common scale that allows the degree of achievement in different subjects to be compared against one another in a statistically fair way. The scaling process is undertaken by the UAC and the result of this process - your aggregate scaled mark (out of 500) "" is the sole determinant of your ATAR. Therefore we can safely say that HSC scaling is a big deal if you intend on scoring a high ATAR.hsc hsc subjects hsc tutoring hsc tutor hsc coaching hsc tutoring tips hsc tutors hsc year 10

Dux College Offers Biology Tutoring For Years 11 And 12 Posted By: Amit Kothiyal

We are happy to announce that we will begin to offer tutoring in HSC and Preliminary Biology to years 11 and 12. This completes our HSC sciences offering, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics tutoring being offered at Dux College.
Term 4 will be the first term of Biology classes, and commences on the 9th of October 2010.
Our Biology course will be taught in the same way as our proven Chemistry and Physics courses. Each week consists of a 2 hour class where a small portion of the syllabus is look at in detail. At the end of each module, we give a practice exam to reinforce and consolidate students" knowledge.
Preliminary course
Our Preliminary Biology course will focus on giving students the skills and conceptual foundations required for maximum success in year 12. Classes will cover the preliminary course, with particular attention being paid to areas relevant to the HSC course. Developing skills is prioritised, such as how to structure extended responses, and how to deal with the different types of HSC exam questions students may face. Students will receive early exposure to HSC exam questions through homework and mock past papers at the end of each term.biology tutoring biology tutor hsc biology tutoring hsc biology tutoring biology tutor Sydney biology tutoring sydney

Why Hsc Coaching Is Necessary Posted By: Hyun Kim

Over the past decade, HSC coaching has become an integral part of the culture of HSC preparation. A significant portion of all HSC students, whether they are from public, selective and private schools, attend some sort of HSC coaching outside of their normal school hours. The motivations of these students range from wanting to maximise their ATARs, maintaining their already high internal assessment ranks, or to catch up with the rest of the class.HSC coaching is an interesting phenomenon, in that it is a symptom of the extremely competitive HSC environment, where students compete for limited places in highly sought after University courses. The fact that an ever-increasing portion of students who score a high ATAR have received some sort of HSC coaching during their senior study makes HSC coaching a self-fulfilling requirement of success to many. What this means is more and more students are finding that they need to attend some sort of HSC coaching service (whether it be private or class tuition) just so they can keep the playing field level with their peers at school.hsc coaching hsc tutors hsc tuition hsc tuition in sydeny mathematics tutors mathematics tutoring

Accelerating An Hsc Subject Posted By: Tis Amit

he term 'accelerating' refers to doing a HSC subject one year earlier than usual. This usually means completing one or several HSC subjects during year 11. Some schools allow some of their top students to choose a subject to accelerate in - this is certainly a common practice in the higher-ranked selective schools. The decision of whether to accelerate in a HSC subject is often made early, often near the end of year 9. This is because the student must complete the required Preliminary component of the course during his/her year 10 (as an elective). The school must approve this, and generally only the top students in each school that offers accelerated learning will be approved to accelerate in a HSC subject. Certain HSC subjects are more commonly accelerated than other subjects; subjects such as Mathematics (2 unit), Physics Chemistry, Economics, Biology etc are examples. Students who accelerate in a HSC subject are often of above-average ability; after all, they were determined by their school teachers to be capable of learning the course content at an accelerated pace.hsc subject accelerated hsc subject hsc subjects accelerated students hsc tutors hsc tutoring

Losing Momentum After The Hsc Trials Posted By: Tis Amit

Now that most students have finished their HSC trials at school, they can relax for a short while knowing that they have finished the last of their school assessments. However, students need to be careful not to lose the momentum they've gained so far.
Now is a good time to remind yourself that in a little over one month's time, you will have your final HSC exams. Each exam is worth 50% of your total assessment for that subject - that's your entire year of school work compressed into one exam! So don't make the common mistake of becoming complacent at this stage. Keep up the hard work and be prepared for your final exams - after these, the HSC will truly be over.
The common trap
During this time shortly after the school trials period, many students take this opportunity to have a break. By all means, a break at this point is well-deserved - you've gone through countless school assessments for 5 or more subjects. Looking back at the year 12 school year so far, you'll see you have travelled quite a distance. Remember that first English assessment in Term 4 last year?final hsc exams hsc exams hsc trials hsc tutoring chemistry tutors hsc scaling

Hsc Study Tips - How To Split Your Study Time Posted By: Tis Amit

Most HSC students are doing 10-12 units for their HSC - that means 5-6 among which you must divide your time. The question is: what is the best way to split up your time between your subjects to maximise your end result?
The answer depends on whether you understand how scaling works. Most students will decide to split their time roughly evenly across their subjects, and for the most part, this works well. The problem, is, this is not the absolute best solution if your goal is to maximise your ATAR.
Remember that your ATAR is a rank which is determined solely by the scaled marks you score at the end of your HSC. The amount of scaled marks you score depends on two things:

Your percentile rank within each subject
The subject's scaling

Well you can't control the second point (since you've already chosen your subjects by now) but you can affect the first point. If you look at the statistics published in Table A3 by the UAC scaling report each year, you'll get to see what scaled marks are scored for each percentile rank.hsc scaled marks hsc marks per unit hsc tutors physics tutors hsc tutoring hsc students hsc

How To Choose A Hsc Tutor Posted By: Tis Amit

Dear parents, Choosing a good tutor for your child is very important. Not only are you investing your money, you are also entrusting your child"s time to your chosen service provider. Your child"s time is, in our opinion, substantially more important than money. From the moment a student knows what subjects he/she will be studying to the time of the final external exams, a student has about 8 terms to prepare. Each term being unproductive is a term wasted. The HSC, being as competitive as it already is, will not stop to wait for anyone to catch up. That"s why it is so important to find a quality tuition service that can bring out your child"s potential. We understand how important time is to a HSC student and we never take this for granted. We know that parents are not just paying us, they are trusting us with their child"s time. We know this is a critical time in a student"s life, and we do everything in our power to help our students achieve their HSC goals.hsc tutors hsc tutoring hsc tution chemistry tutoring physics tutoring maths tutors

Choosing The Right University Course After Hsc Posted By: Tis Amit

Choosing the right university course for yourself is very important as it will most likely determine what you will be doing for your working life. We've had past students who graduate and go onto doing:

Commerce
Law
Engineering
Medicine
Science
Arts

or combined degrees (combinations) of the above.
We will talk briefly about what career paths each degree tends to lead to, and our recommendations for each degree.
What course should I choose?
Unlike choosing HSC subjects, there is no scaling implications or anything to do with special 'rules'. University is purely about yourself - choose the course or courses that interest you. For example, if in the HSC, you did very well for economics and tend to enjoy the subject, choose Commerce or Economics at university. If you really enjoyed chemistry or biology, aim for medicine, medical science, pharmacy, optometry, physiotherapy or veterinary science. There are many possibilities, each with different goals in mind.
We don't have any specific recommendation of which degree you choose, except that you should definitely choose the course you're genuinely interested in.university degree hsc tutors hsc students hsc tutoring

Familiarise Yourself With 'hsc Words' Posted By: Tis Amit

A big part of succeeding in the HSC is knowing how to win marks. Merely studying for your subjects and learning the theory is half the work - you also need to be a master of exams.
In all HSC subjects, exam questions are always phrased using the same keywords. For example, you would have seen questions beginning with: "Describe the relationship between...", "Outline the features of...", "Compare the perspectives of...", "Critically evaluate the implications of..." etc.
ALL the questions you encounter in the HSC would be phrased using one of the words in the HSC Glossary of Terms. In order to excel in all your exams, it is essential that you deeply familiarise yourself with the meanings of these 'HSC words'. For example, know exactly what "Explain" requires you to do; know the difference between 'Evaluate' and 'Assess'; know the difference between 'Describe' and 'Outline'. Knowing the meaning of each word, and what each requires you to do is essential to getting full marks for your answers, especially for longer essay-type responses.
A good place to start is to read the Marking Criteria published for each past HSC exam.hsc markers hsc tutors hsc tution math tutor hsc tutoring HSC scaling HSC exams HSC Glossary
