Where To Learn Self Defense Posted By: Jared Lil

Martial arts dojo's in good standing with the community, offer self-defense classes in Boston to individuals wanting a realistic program that helps the new student mentally and physically grow in personal self defense skills.

Proper self defense is about a strong mind filled with self respect, a conditioned body that will just react when put in a bad situation, and a survival spirit from self confidence. From the beginning, the martial arts schools figured out that practitioners needed to train techniques and self awareness as one during the training sessions. They new a weak mind would disable and hinder the results from training and make everything they worked so hard for a waste of time.

You have the right to prevent other individuals from attacking or doing bodily harm to you. You must understand that difference between protecting yourself and becoming the aggressor. Self defense is all about protecting oneself and finding a path of escape from a bad situation.

Benefits Gained

Everyone understands that training Boston self defense will help you protect yourself from getting hurt, but there are many other hidden benefits that come along with self defense training.Boston self defense

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Beginning Posted By: Travis Lutter

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be classified alongside the sports of Judo and Taekwondo, being a martial art and combat sport. As well as being used for the art of self defense, it is great in character building in the young person, giving them a focus and aim in life.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is said to have come about due to a large immigrant population of Japanese in Brazil, its' invention being a relatively new one, in the twentieth century. It is derived form the Japanese martial art of Judo, and although is very similar in many aspects, ranking being gained by stripes and bjj belts, it sets itself aside from Judo by being a sport that is more focused on ground fighting.

The main focus of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the capability to grapple your opponent to the ground, locking them into a position from which they are unable to move, regardless of the weight of the opponents.

The Jiu Jitsu Gi is the formal uniform used when training and fighting Ju Jitsu. Again, it is very similar to that of Judo, but the legs and arms are slightly less loose.MMA Muay Thai Sports Self Defense Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The Effects Of Bullying Posted By: Paul Halme

Bullying has lasting effects on everyone from the individual that is being bullied to the individual that performs the bullying to the individual that witnesses the actions of bullying. Studies show that bullying has significant and lasting effects on anyone that is involved in bullying no matter their role.

Those that are Bullied

Individuals that find themselves the victims of bullying are much more likely to not just miss or skip school but also to drop out of school before graduation. The increase in drop-outs over the years is unbearable to many and to think that bullying is a cause of some of these drop-outs is rather alarming if you ask me. Aside from the above-mentioned, here are some of the effects that bullying can have on the victims:

Are at a higher risk of developing anxiety and depression, which includes a number of systems such as loss of internet in school activities, changes in eating habits and sleeping patterns and increased feelings of loneliness and sadness. These problems are not just problems that the children face as adolescents, but also into adulthood - possibly forever.MMA BJJ Muay Thai Kids Martial Arts Kids Mixed Martial A

Kids Martial Arts Posted By: Paul Halme

Putting kids in martial arts may be a way to help treat a growing number of problems affecting children these days that are caused by the ease and constant distraction of modern life.
Gradually, bit by bit, all of the things that required sustained focus, mental exertion, or physical exertion have been removed from our lives. If we ever feel bored it is with the constant stream of entertainment we have constant access to. This has led to children having problems focusing in the classroom, with weight and related problems such as diabetes, lashing out at school or at home and many other things.
Getting kids into martial arts can help get there mind and body working together again and help improve their performance in school, their social development, their behavior at home and their future by helping them rebuild those long lost skills and mental strengths.
Martial arts introduce a respect for routine and structure with the order of the class. There is a strong imperative that a child will feel to adhere to the appropriate mode of conduct within the group and show respect in all the appropriate places. The class itself is also highly structured.MMA BJJ Muay Thai Kids Martial Arts Kids Mixed Martial A

Bully Prevention Through The Learning Of Martial Arts Part 2 Posted By: Paul Halme

Bullying is and always will be a problem. Let's continue learning how martial arts can help the prevention of bullying by learning about leadership, stress relief, self-control and self-defense - all of which are taught to children through martial arts.

Developing Strong Leadership Skills

For bullies, they are more likely to develop disorders such as anti-social personality disorder because of their bullying behavior. This particular condition causes the person to ignore the fact that others around them have feelings. Martial arts can help these children learn to develop the needed ability to see and understand empathy in others.

For those being bullied, they are less popular and others have less empathy for them. This is why they are targeted in most instances. Your child is at higher risk of being bullied if they have fewer friends. A martial arts program can train these children to be more socially open so that they can easily make friends.

Learning to Relieve Stress

For bullies, it is hard for them to regulate their own emotions. They generally have no way to control their frustration and anger leading them to bully others in severe ways.MMA BJJ Muay Thai Kids Martial Arts Kids Mixed Martial A

Bully Prevention Through The Learning Of Martial Arts Part 1 Posted By: Paul Halme

Bullying is present in our everyday life whether it is at work, school or in the community. Whether we open our eyes and see that bullying is taking place is a completely different thing; however, understanding that bullying is present everywhere is the first step to bully prevention.

As a parent, you need to take action to help prevent bullying or at the very least, help your child prepare himself or herself for bullying on either side of the spectrum. Martial arts is an incredible program that helps children learn a number of factors such as confidence, respect, discipline, leadership, stress relief, self-control and self-defense; therefore, it helps both a child that has turned into a bully as well as a child that is being bullied.

In this two-part series, we will help you understand how each of the above-mentioned factors can help your child, as a bully or as a bullying victim, to overcome this type of behavior and step foot in the right direction.

Building Self-Confidence

For bullies, their behavior comes from a need to be the person on top. They enjoy that others fear them and require a lot of attention.Keller BJJ Keller MMA Keller Muay Thai Keller Kids Martia

I Lift Weights Posted By: Matthew McKernan

I lift weights. I also run and hit things. At 43 I'm just as active now as I ever was. "Active", what an old person term. In your teens, 20's and 30's you worked out, in your 40's you're fucking active. Be careful, when people start calling you "vibrant" or telling you how good you look you're going to take a dirt nap soon. Anyway, there's no reason to slow down. The way I figure, the Spartans were in the active military from 20 to age 60 (sometimes 65) so I'm not slowing down until then. Plus given medical technology today as compared to 1500 years ago, there's no reason why in your 70's you still can't be going strong.

I'm going to ask you to be honest with yourself. Given your overall return on investment, is your time better spent learning katas (forms) or lifting weights? Would you get more benefit practicing esoteric methods of harmonizing your chi or dead-lifting?

Years ago in Tae Kwon Do, the instructor was drilling us while we were practicing blocks in the air.martial arts self defense

What To Do If You Witness An Act Of Bullying Posted By: Paul Halme

Not everyone is the victim of bullying and not everyone is the actual bully. In fact, there are others in the world - some of which who actually witness bullying taking place. However, the witness is just as afraid of the bully as the victim and is too scared to tell an adult of the bullying behavior. Because of this, it may just be easier to stand by and watch the bullying take place, watch the bully be mean and watch the victim get hurt; however, you should never just watch the bullying occur and do nothing about it. Never ignore that bullying is happening.

Here is some brief information that can help you understand how you can make a difference as an observer, or witness, of bullying:

Never, ever join in on the bullying. When you see a peer being bullied by someone, don't jump in and help the bully. The bully is not the one in need of help and is not the side that you want to be on. Should the bully see you and ask you to come join in on the fun. Simply refuse, walk away, and seek help.

Stand up for the bullying victim.Keller BJJ Keller MMA Keller Muay Thai Keller Kids Martia
