Plan For Trekking Tours In Cotopaxi Posted By: steave martin

Trekking is one of the favorite activities of people to explore the beauty that lies in a specific region. Unlike other adventurous activities like rafting, scuba diving, etc, trekking has nothing to do with special training or handling equipment. The only thing that trekkers need to do is to select their places of interest and plan out suitable days for this activity.

If you are an adventure seeker and want to have extraordinary trekking experiences, then consider trekking in Cotopaxi. It is located 28 km south of Quito, the capital of Ecuador and is amongst the active volcanoes in the entire world.

Cotopaxi is situated in the mountain ranges of Andes and measures an altitude of 5,897 m above the sea level. The conical shape of the mountain measures about 3,800 meters and its base stretches about 23 kilometers. On reaching the apex, trekkers can have spectacular views of the entire Quito. In 1803, a European climber first attempted to explore the mountain and with the passage of time, it has gained wide popular among adventure enthusiasts from different parts of the world.jungle lodges Ecuador Jungle tours ecuador Amazon jungle tours trekking tour tours Ecuador travel to ecuador Ecuador tours Ecuador travel adventure to

Kuelap - Indiana Jones' Temple Of The Chachapoyan Warriors Posted By: Thomas Carroll

An ancient structure called Kuelap may have inspired the beginning of the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark." The novel tells us that Indiana Jones was looking for the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors in the Andes of Northern Peru. The Chachapoyans, which means "People of the Clouds," did exist and have left behind scores of ruins; most notably Kuelap "The Fortress of the Clouds."

A couple of hours from Chachapoyas city lies the fortress at 9,843 feet above sea level overlooking the Utcubamba Valley. This pre-Inca walled city is presumed to have taken over 200 years to build and millions of cubic feet of stone. Its size is enormously impressive at about 1,968 feet in length and 361 feet in width with walls reaching 60 feet high, making Kuelap one of the largest stone structures in South America and the world. An estimated 100,000 stone blocks compose the outer two defensive walls, which weigh an estimated 10,000 tons. Construction began in the 6th century AD and was occupied until the Early Colonial period (1532-1570).kuelap chachapoyas peru lone wolf adventure peru peru travel

Five Reasons To Visit North Peru Posted By: Karen Ward

Heading up the coast the first major city is Trujilo. Peru' s third city has probably the most impressive main square in the country. Nearby are some beautifully restored colonial mansions such as Casa Ganoza Chopitea . The main reason to visit, though, are the incredible pyramids made by the Moche people around 1500 years ago. The tombs, called Huacas, were built to house important members of society along with belongings, servants and family members; much as the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt did. In Huaca de la Bruja are the remains of an important female shaman and in Huaca de la Luna has incredible, intact, colorfully painted friezes; preserved for centuries by the dry desert. The main part of the largest adobe city ever built still stands at coastal Chan Chan. The Chimu civilization who lived here before the Incas decorated their city with dramatic shapes and symbols; all easily visited from Trujilo.

Chiclayo is also a good place for visiting Moche pyramids including one of the most important finds of modern times. At the Lord of Sipan site, archaeologists unearthed a treasure trove of gold, silver, pots and even some weavings.Peru vacation Peru tour Peru travel agent North Peru Moche Chiclayo Trujilo Chachapoyas visit Peru Mancora

3 Reasons To Do The Ausangate Circuit Trek In Peru Posted By: Karen Ward

Ausangate means snow star and this 4-5 day trek around the sacred mountain of Ausangate is undoubtedly one of the most varied, stunning and adventurous in South America. Add to that easy access from Cusco and hot springs on the first and last days; and you have a fantastic trek for your Peru vacation. This Ausangate circuit is wilder, more dramatic and much less touristy than the Inca Trail making it ideal for lovers of hiking and travelers looking for adventure in Peru.

A new road makes means the access town of Tinqui is just a 4 hours drive from Cusco. Once off the road, you are into a wild area where alpacas outnumber humans and electricity and modern life has had little impact. Ausangate is recognized as one of the best treks in the world for its combination of traditional lifestyles and stunning scenery. Every day on this trek there are spectacular vistas with glaciers coming right down to the passes, turquoise lakes and jagged peaks.Peru vacations Machu Picchu vacation Peru holiday Peru adventure best trek best hike Peru hike Ausangate circuit Ausangate hike Q'eros

The Inca Trail And Peru Treks: What To Take? Posted By: Jonathan Clarke

Hiking in Inca Trail or any other high altitude trek in Peru can be very unlike hikes you do back home. Being prepared will ensure that you get the most out of your Peru trekking holiday. Here is a list of what to take on the Inca Trail, or any Peru trek.

You don't need to buy expensive kit and you should not overload yourself but there are a few essentials that you should have. On the Inca Trail, you only need to carry the essentials for the day as porters carry everything else. For other Peru treks such as Lares, Huayhuash, Ausangate or Santa Cruz, you can carry everything yourself or hire local mules to take your hiking gear.

-Good boots that are already worn in, not new.

-Socks - wearing liner socks with thicker ones on top can help prevent blisters. Alpaca socks are cheap and cosy to wear at night. You can pick up a pair in Cusco before you start your trek.

-A back pack that fits as well as your boots. This might sound strange, but if it is not right for your body you can end up with back ache.Inca Trail Peru trek Peru trekking holiday Peru vacation trekking in Peru hiking trekking gear coca leaves

Inca Trail To Machu Picchu Alternatives: The Lares Trek (weavers Way) Posted By: Jonathan Clarke

One of the most fascinating all round treks in Peru takes you through the Lares valleys near Machu Picchu. These alternatives to the Inca Trail offer an outstanding combination of fine trekking, mountain scenery, and unforgettable real life experiences with local Andean people.

There are a number of alternative treks around Machu Picchu and Cusco; all excellent in their own ways, so why would you chose the Weavers Way, more commonly known as Lares?

The Inca Trail is full; or you've already done it
Probably the main reason people chose an alternative trek in the Cusco area. Only 500 people per day can start the Inca Trail and that includes all guides and porters. In the high season around May to September places go fast and many visitors to Peru and Machu Picchu find that they are not able to do the Inca Trail, but would still like to do a beautiful high Andean trek. Lares is therefore a good option.

To Get Away from the Crowds
The Lares area is still much less visited than the busy Sacred Valley and Inca Trail.Inca Trail Lares Trek Community Tourism Peru tours Peru hikes Peru vacations Cultural tours Weavers Way Machu Picchu trek Sacred Valley

Oldest Gold Artefacts Posted By: Post Gold For Cash

In 2008 a team of scientists who were led by an archaeologist from the University of Arizona discovered the oldest collection to date of gold artefacts found in America. The discovery indicates that early human life with limited resources still understood status symbols and their value. The site, at Jiskairumoko in the South American Andes was explored by professor of anthropology Mark Aldenderfer. It is in a drainage basin here where groups of hunters and gatherers began to make the transition to a more settled existence.

The excavated site included a burial which contained a turquoise and native gold necklace. This had been shaped by a hammer and could have belonged to someone with a higher status in the community. Carbon-14 dates for Jiskairumoko date from 2155 to 1936 BC so the necklace is around four thousand years old. This makes it 600 years older than previous artefacts thought to be the earliest ever made throughout the Americas.

Gold metallurgy is practically exclusive to societies who hold the expertise to create agricultural surpluses and hereditary elite members.gold prices scrap gold buy gold

Machu Picchu - 5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Too Posted By: Jonathan Clarke

Have you heard of Machu Picchu? If not, you've probably never heard of Peru, or South America! Machu Picchu is a famous Inca Citadel located in the Andes mountains of Peru.

It is a destination that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists a year on Peru vacations. Here are five reasons why you should follow in their footsteps and go and see Machu Picchu for yourself.

One of the 7 wonders of the world
In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the new 'Seven Wonders Of The World' in a worldwide internet poll involving millions of people. Other sites included the Taj Mahal in India, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Colosseum in Italy and the Great Wall of China in...China.

If there was ever a place to see before you die, Machu Picchu is globally recognized as one of your best options.

An incredible setting
2,430 meters above sea level on a mountain ridge in cloud forest, Machu Picchu was hard to find and was never discovered by the Spanish conquistadors. Despite improved access for the high numbers of tourists, visitors can still get a sense of the remoteness of the site.Machu Picchu Machu Picchu tours 7 wonders of the world Huayna Picchu Peru vacations Peru tours Peru holidays

A Highlight Of Your Peru Vacation: The Inca Trail Challenge Posted By: Jonathan Clarke

This iconic trek to Machu Picchu is often misunderstood and confused with other alternative treks around Cusco . Here we explain the basics of the Inca Trail and why it's one of the best treks in the world.

What is the Inca Trail?
The fact is there isn't just one Inca Trail. The Incas built a massive system of trails all across their empire for transporting goods, soldiers and sending messages. Quapaq an, or Great Inca Road, was the principal highway and it ran for a staggering 6,000km from Colombia, through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and down into Chile. It is possible to follow the whole trail though only 25% is still visible. Just ask Laurent Granier and Megan Soon who walked the whole Inca Road in a mere 18 months!

What's the Classic Inca Trail?
The best preserved part of the massive network of Inca Trails is the 43 km section running from the Sacred Valley to the Inca site of Machu Picchu in Peru. The normal time for walking along the Inca Trail section is the much more manageable 4 days, though the 5 day Inca Trail is highly recommended.

The Wonders Of Arequipa Posted By: Archie Blazer

Arequipa is a very prominent city in Peru and is right after the capital city Lima in terms of size and importance. The city has a very long history as it was established back in the 16th century by Garci Manuel de Carbajal, a man sent to the region by the conquistador Francisco Pizzaro.

The city is impressive through due to its looks and its location. Erected on volcanic grounds in the heart of the Andes Mountains, Arequipa is also referred to as Ciudad Blanca, or White City. The rock on which the city stands has a white shimmering glow in the morning light, which inspired the inhabitants and people moving to the location to give it this alternate name. One of the first things you will notice when you travel to Arequipa is the fresh air of the mountains which is not something you can usually enjoy in large metropolitan areas.

Because of its location, the most important attraction in Arequipa is the nearby volcanoes. They are called El Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu, and their heights are stunning if you want to trek across them.Vacation Travel

Mendoza - A City Of Great Wine Posted By: Archie Blazer

Mendoza is the fourth largest city in Argentina, and the capital city of the Province of Mendoza. It is on the Eastern part of the Andes, where it was founded in 1561. The city derives its name from the Governor of Chile during that time, when the area was still under Spanish colony, Governor Garcia Hurtago de Mendoza.

Three tribes occupied the region before this period, namely the Incas, Puelches and Huarpes. The Huarpes designed a method of irrigation that the Spanish developed later, which resulted in a significant population increase. There are still wide trenches running along the streets that point back to this system.

In 1861, a massive earthquake rocked the city, resulting in the destruction of many of its buildings. The design of Mendoza was changed significantly when it was reconstructed. Plaza Independencia, a very impressive plaza, became the center of the city. There is a very large fountain at the center used for irrigation purposes, making the city strikingly green in a surrounding that is relatively dry. There are viaducts that go from the fountain to the square before flowing to other squares and up to the rivers flowing from the mountains.Vacation Travel

Lima is the largest city in and capital of Peru. The city, which was established in 1535, gives you the chance to enjoy the old and modern world in one place. Having been the headquarters of Spanish rule for about 300 years, Lima boasts of some of the best colonial architecture in the world. These include churches, monasteries and cloisters.

Lima is endowed with a number of archeological sites, with the largest situated about 10 kilometers to the south, in Pachacamac. In addition to seeing the special colonial architecture, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the country's history from several museums.

Some of the things that make Lima unique, and which you will see soon after your arrival, are the orderly large slum dwellings. The city has a population of more than 10 million people, with a high percentage having no work. Many people moved to the city from the Andes Mountains in search of work without much success.

It is better to pack tightly and travel light if you want to limit the hassle at the airport, which tends to be crowded.Vacation Travel
