Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales Posted By: Jimmy

Dealing with autism spectrum disorder (ASD or autism) means dealing with constant observation, early interventions, and countless forms of screening and diagnostic processes, to confirm diagnosis as well as help in planning different interventions needed to help enhance a child's way of life and prepare for his future. Among the different screening and diagnostic forms is the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS).

Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales "" Second edition

Sara S. Sparrow, Domenic V. Cicchetti, and David A. Balla developed the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, 2nd edition (VABS-II) in 2005. It is a useful tool in the diagnosis of autism and other mental disorders such as mental retardation and Rett's disorder. It is a diagnostic tool that will help measure the capabilities of both children and adults in dealing with everyday life (i.e., communication skills, motor skills, functionalities needed in everyday life, and socialization). VABS-II can be completed in 20""60 minutes, depending on what format is being used during the actual evaluation.

VABS-II uses four different formats:

-Teacher Rating Format (TFR) - Teachers commonly use this format in a school setting to identify what specific adaptive behavior a child is presenting while in class.Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment asperger syndrome

Support And Help From The Autism Community Posted By: Keira

There is a wealth of support and information available in the autism community. There are many advocacies or charitable organizations that provide necessary help and information regarding autism spectrum disorder (ASD or autism) and among them are Autism Speaks in the United States (www.autismspeaks.org) and the National Autistic Society (NAS) in the United Kingdom (www.autism.org.uk). These organizations also provide links to other organizations or groups and other useful sources of help and support.

Organizations such as these can provide a range of services from the early years right through to adulthood. The aims of these types of organizations are:

-Raise awareness and understanding of autism and the effects on those individuals who care for a person diagnosed with autism
-Provide education, training, and support to all those living with or involved with autism
-Provide advocacy
-Fund research into causes, preventions, and treatments

Awareness and understanding can be gained from campaigns and also from different kinds of workshops or conferences where service providers, professionals, and parents can be trained and educated about the different aspects of autism (i.e., interventions, therapies, and approaches or understanding behavior).Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment

Studies On Autism And Antidepressants Show Ssris May Cause Autism Posted By: Adriana Bustos

Most people look at genetic makeup as the main cause of autism. An autistic child's neurons and synaptic processes are different because of an anomaly in their genes. What you may not know is there are also existing autism causes you need to watch out for. Scientists continue to study many external factors believed to cause the condition. One of these is the use of antidepressants during pregnancy.

Brief Background on Autism

Autism is a group of neuro-developmental disorders affecting a person's behavior, social interaction, and communication skills. About 1% of the population, or one in every 110 children in the United States, has some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Boys are more inclined to develop this condition than girls.

Genetics plays a huge role in the development of autism. Children with ASD either have rare genetic mutations or a rare combination of common genes. Many children with ASD also have other health problems like tubular sclerosis, which researchers say is also a cause. Other hypothesized autism causes include exposure to mercury and lead and excessive vaccination, although studies have not established a solid link between vaccines and autism.autism causes autism and antidepressants

The Importance Of Getting An Autism Lawyer Posted By: Adriana Bustos

Autism Spectrum Disorders or ASD, is a complex developmental condition that's marked by reduced social interaction, communication, and repetitive behavior. Some conditions are Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Individuals with autism have limited interests that inhibit them from functioning normally at home, school, and society.

Signs of this disorder start to become visible at three years old. Listed below are signs you should watch out for to determine if your child is autistic:

-If the child does not babble by age one.

- If the child cannot utter a word or phrases by age two.

- Poor social skills. If the child doesn't smile, avoids eye contact and will not play with other children and ignores them, the child could be autistic.

- A child who has intense focus on one object for a long period of time.

- If the child does not respond to his name.

- If the child has repeated movements such as twirling and rocking.

- If the child engages in self-injurious behavior such as head-banging and biting

Today, one in every 110 American children is diagnosed with autism. About 1.5 million people in America live with ASD.autism attorney autism lawyer

The Autism Friendly Home Posted By: Mich Lee

Home is a place where everybody feels a sense of security, serenity and peace of mind. It gains even more importance when it houses a person or child diagnosed with autism. The home must be more autism friendly in such cases. Understanding the key requirements and how you can make an autism friendly home is very important.

An autism friendly home is the place where the person or child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has available all the facilities and amenities that are used in their therapies and routine daily life. There are many factors that need to be considered when establishing the priorities for an autism friendly home. These considerations depend on the special conditions of the child or person diagnosed with autism, the therapy that is being executed and the prescription of the consultant.

Following are the very basic and necessary features to be considered for an autism friendly home:

*Security zone: Security should be a top level priority. The level of the ASD of the child diagnosed with autism is a very important factor that defines the level of the security zone in the home.Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment asperger syndrome

Aba Implementation Posted By: Special Learning

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy teaches social, motor, and verbal behaviors in addition to reasoning skills that are useful for everyday living. ABA treatment specializes in teaching behaviors to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who may otherwise not learn on their own as other children would. The ABA approach can be used by a parent, counselor, or certified behavior analyst.

The ABA approach attempts to teach desired behaviors by providing teaching tools that focus on simplified instructional steps and consistent reinforcement. It aims to help children with autism lead more independent and socially active lives. Research shows that this positive outcome is more common for children who have received early intervention, when the brain is critically developing during the preschool years.

ABA is considered by many researchers and clinicians to be the most effective evidence-based therapeutic approach demonstrated thus far for children with autism. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, thirty years of research on the ABA approach have shown very positive outcomes when it is used as an early intervention tool for autism.Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment

Angelina Jolie Takes No Prisoners In War Drama News Posted By: knsukhy

we are not crying for Angelina Jolie. Still, one downside to celebrity is that the individual gets pigeon-holed. Every time Angelina strays from what the public and the media expect, she takes a risk. Steal Jen's man? OK. Get a new tattoo? All right. Adopt a kid? So Mia Farrow!
But write, direct, and produce a serious movie? Wait a minute. Has she gone too far?

Case in point: Angelina's directorial debut, the R-rated "In the Land of Blood and Honey." Here's a serious-as-death drama. It's in Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian, with English subtitles. It stars unknowns with unpronounceable names. Read: box-office poison. Angelina Jolie takes no prisoners in war drama news

On its opening weekend, "Blood and Honey" earned $18,854 playing in three theaters. Its first week found a gross of $55,000. That's not even Angelina's nanny budget. In contrast, even the roundly slammed "The Tourist" opened at $16 million and eventually turned a profit, with an international gross of $278 million.

And, despite a Golden Globe nomination for best foreign-language film, Angelina's movie has run aground on grudging reviews that often pay more attention to the woman behind the camera than the story on the screen.asd

Autism Statistics Posted By: Jimmy

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is a group of multi-faceted developmental disorders that is accompanied by symptoms such as delays in social, communication and behavior skills. According to the center for Disease Control and Prevention, autism is identified to affect all kinds of racial, ethnic and social groups.

Prevalence

The average prevalence of ASDs identified among children aged 8 years increased 57% in 10 sites from the 2002 to the 2006 surveillance year. Although improved ascertainment accounts for some of the prevalence increases documented a true increase in the risk for children to develop ASD symptoms cannot be ruled out (CDC, 2006). It is said that an average of 1 in 110 children in the United States alone has ASD (CDC, 2010).

Birth Rates

Roughly 1 percent of children born each year will eventually be diagnosed with ASD, according to the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD). That means that out of the 4 million births in the United States every year, almost 40,000 children will eventually be diagnosed with mild to severe ASD by age 8.Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment asperger syndrome

Bringing Aba Into Your Home Posted By: Mich Lee

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis or ABA is a scientific method used to predict and control how humans behave. It uses empirical and observable evidence through assessments of cognitive, behavioral or communicative activities to develop a treatment plan for children with ASD. Children are taught to perform and function on their own by using techniques known as observation, prompting, reinforcement and fading. (Behavioural Neurotherapy Clinic, 2009) A very high rate of successful skill maintenance, repeatability and development are achieved by using the ABA therapy. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1999)

Incorporating ABA into Your Life

One of the best things about ABA is that it does not require the use of expensive equipments or tools, making it easy to do at home. Teaching your preschooler with Autism can be done by using objects and toys around the house. Each member of the family is encouraged to get involved in implementing ABA therapy in your home.

How to Make ABA Interesting and Fun for the Whole Family

Supplementing ABA therapeutic techniques for children with Autism can be done in a fun way.Autism ABA Therapy Autism Treatment
