Paying Off Your Mortgage Early Can Save You Money, But is it Worth the Effort?

When you've taken out a mortgage you have made a very long-term commitment. For the next 30 years, in most cases, you have just signed on the dotted line at a mortgage closing and you must make timely payments each month for a long time or risk losing everything! So, is it worth it to try to pay off a mortgage early and make this long-term commitment a little shorter? This article examines this question.

There was a time paying off the mortgage as soon as you could was the only way to go. This, of course, is provided the family had enough extra income to make extra mortgage payments. Why was making extra payments such a smart move? Because interest is what you pay for the time the lender is loaning you money. If you don't use this time, you do not pay interest.

I remember a time when an 11% interest rate was an excellent deal for the buyer. The reason why it was such an excellent deal is because in previous years interest rates were as high as 18%! At this rate, hardly anyone could afford to take out a mortgage. **End Summary** Topics: paying off mortgage saving money mortgage payments interest rates
About the Author:
You have found out you can save a large portion of your mortgage payments, now find out how much you are paying toward interest and how much you are paying toward principal on each mortgage payment at <a href="http://www.freeamortizationschedule.net">Amortization Schedule</a> .
An 80 20 Mortgage - What Is Meant By This Term And Why Are They All That Are Available?

80 20 mortgages, and 75 25 mortgages are all that seem to be available these days. The reason for this is the policies of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have ruined the concept of creative financing. These agencies pushed way too many shady loans and because of this, they and the taxpayers and all future borrowers were burnt. So, we are left with the more traditional 80 20 mortgages. This is true even for people with great credit ratings. This article explains all about it.

A mortgage where 80% of the value of the property will be loaned to the buyer is known as an 80% 20% mortgage, or sometimes simply, an 80 20 mortgage. Throughout the years 2006 and 2007, the parameters of mortgages that were written were ridiculous. Some people were able to borrow more money than the property they were buying was worth. These people actually came out of their closings with their new homes and extra money in their pockets. Besides this, some people with extremely low credit ratings were able to buy homes without making any down payment! **End Summary** Topics: 80 20 mortgage
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop has developed EZ Calculator, which is an online financial calculator that shows you how to save $100,000 on your mortgage.
What Is Budgeting? An Overview of Setting Up and Keeping a Budget

It seems every year all of us go on a new budget. On this new budget we will be able to pay all our bills on time and have a little left over that we can use as mad money. However, most budgets seem to fall apart before they really get started. Why does this happen? In this article, we will examine why budgets fall apart and how we can prevent this from happening.

The goal of a budget is to use income in such a way it will pay off all bills and then any money that is left over can be put toward savings and some of the rest can be used to purchase something fun. This would be true whether we are well to do and something fun is a new automobile or if the something fun might be just eating out twice a year.

The first thing we must do in setting up a budget is figure out everything we will need to pay monthly. This is the most important part of the budget and if there are any surprises, your budget will be ruined. So, make sure you remember all your bills. **End Summary** Topics: what is budgeting
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop has developed EZ Calculator, which is an online financial calculator that shows you how to save $100,000 on your mortgage.
Refinancing With Bad Credit - How To Refinance If Your Credit Isn't So Great

Refinancing your mortgage can help you maintain your budget in surplus from month to month. However, if you are now operating in a deficit from month to month you may have developed bad credit. So there is a catch 21 because a new low interest mortgage can help you pay your bills on time but your bad credit will make it more difficult for you to refinance. This article explains how to go about refinancing with a less than stellar credit rating.

Most of the time people develop bad credit from simply not earning enough money to balance their budgets. There are times it isn't neglect that causes a person to ruin his or her credit. Still, many times, people work hard at trying to pay their bills on time monthly, but they are simply unable to do so because their monthly obligations outweigh their monthly income.

Give Me One More Chance

This means there are many people who deserve another chance to get out of debt and pay their bills on time so they can recover their good credit rating. **End Summary** Topics: refinancing with bad credit
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop has developed EZ Calculator, which is an online financial calculator that shows you how to save $100,000 on your mortgage.
Economy Facts - 3 Basics of Capitalism

We are not being taught economics too well in the US anymore. Yes, there are lots of subjects to learn and little time to learn them in. However, some basic economic knowledge is necessary just to be able to implement a home budget. Beyond that, having a good understanding of basic economics helps one determine when politicians are shooting straight or when they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

In this article, we will talk about three basic tenets to a capitalistic economy. The first is: "the law of supply and demand," the second is "automation represents progress" and finally "governments act as impediments to economies."

Law of Supply and Demand

The most fundamental of all basic capitalism rules is the law of supply and demand. This law states that when a good or service is in great supply its price will tend to fall. If a good or service is hard to find, the price of this good or service will rise. If a good or service is in great demand, this will also make its price rise. If very few people need or want a good or service, its price will fall. **End Summary** Topics: economy facts capitalism
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop has developed EZ Calculator, which is an online financial calculator that shows you how to save $100,000 on your mortgage.
The Definition of Economics - Gaining A Better Understanding Of How The Economy Works

Knowing the definition of economics doesn't mean anything as far as having a good understanding of how the economy works. In capitalism, the economy works because its rules coincide with the rules of human nature. Therefore, when anything interferes with these laws business growth will be squelched and the economy is stifled. This article explains.

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines economics as follows: "A social science concerned chiefly with description and analysis of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services." In other words, goods and services are traded for money and economics studies these relationships.

To some degree, everyone probably knows this definition. Still, this does nothing to help one's understanding of what makes an economy good or bad. This takes a deeper understanding of economics.

Replace Myth with Economic Facts

One problem many people have is understanding why certain goods and services cost what they do. Many people think a company has total control over the prices it charges and if somebody's prices are higher than customers think they should be they believe the company is somehow evil or simply there to exploit them. **End Summary** Topics: definition of economics how the economy works
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop has developed EZ Calculator, which is an online financial calculator that shows you how to save $100,000 on your mortgage.

You've probably heard cleaning your computer's registry files will help you in your quest to keep your computer running fast. A registry needs to be cleaned when it becomes bogged down with information it is no longer using. This will cause a PC to slow down. Also, a computer in this condition will be prone to crashes and freezes as well as error messages.

So, just what is a registry and why does it need to be cleaned periodically. A registry is a key part of a Windows operating system. Actually the registry is a file system that is very similar to any Windows file system. In other words, the registry uses folders and files just like your Word documents use. There can be folders inside of folders inside of other folders or in some cases simply files inside of a main folder.

Files and Folders in Folders

Similar to the way all your Word documents are stored, all information about a computer's user, the computer itself, and anything else that pertains to the way operations will be performed on your computer is stored in the registry. **End Summary** Topics: cleaning registry files slow computer error messages
About the Author:
The author is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
Eliminate PC Errors and Keep Your Computer Running Fast

A computer that is giving error messages is synonymous with a computer that is running slowly and generally giving the user poor performance. When a computer slows down over time it generally is an indication of an operating system that is becoming somewhat tattered. This is the normal M.O. for Windows operating systems, and though Windows is, in my opinion by far and away the best operating system available, it does need periodic maintenance to keep it performing at its best.

When a computer slows down, many times it will also be prone to committing errors. Once again, this is because Windows files tend to become disorganized. When we speak of Windows files we are really talking about a part of the Windows operating system known as the registry.

The Windows Inventory Keeper

A Windows registry keeps track of all the computers inner parts, its external parts and even the users who log on to the computer. In other words, the Windows registry is the go-between of the deepest inner parts of the computer and the external world. **End Summary** Topics: computer speed computer errors
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
Registry Repair Ratings and the Fine Art of Understanding Them

The way registry repair ratings can be calculated is sometimes a very mysterious thing. Sometimes registry repair programs are rated with a number from 1 to 10. Also, I've seen them rated by using numbers from 1 to 100 and or even from 1 to 1,000. Of course, the old standby of rating registry cleaners is by using a number of stars, usually one to five.

It's easy to see that a lot of these ratings are being done by people trying to sell a particular brand of registry repair software. So, obviously these folks are going to rate their product the highest. Does this mean they will arbitrarily make up numbers so as to put their product on the top of the list? Well, yes.

Towing the Company Line

A lot of people who sell programs that scan and fix registries online really don't know too much about what parameters are used in concocting the charts you see on their Web pages. Most times, these charts were made for them by the manufacturer of the product that is on the top of the list. **End Summary** Topics: registry cleaners registry repair slow computer
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
PC Too Slow? Here Are 3 Things to Try Before You Throw Your Slow Computer in the Trash Heap

There are several problems that could make a PC run too slowly for any computer users liking. Of these many problems, there are three that stand out amongst the rest as the reasons usually causing the computer to run too slow. In this article, we will reveal these three reasons and tell you how to combat them.

Most computers come equipped with virus and spyware protection. This is a good thing because not only can viruses and spyware make your computer run slowly, possibly freeze and crash, but spyware can steal information about you. Much of this information you would rather keep private.

Use Antispyware and Antivirus Software

Whether you keep the spyware/virus protection program that came with your computer or you've added a new one, you've done a good thing. If you don't have spyware protection, you should install an antivirus program on your computer very soon! In any event, viruses or spyware are one of the top reasons why a computer could be running slowly. Yes, there is other harm these parasites can do to your PC, running slowly is simply one of their side effects. Make sure you're not being victimized by spyware or viruses. **End Summary** Topics: spyware and viruses Windows operating system PC too slow
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
Registry Fixer Download - Using Registry Fix Software to Get the Most Speed Out of Your Computer

If you have a computer that is stalling, slowing down and/or freezing up on you, it is a good idea to get a registry fixer download so you can use its free scan function to see if the problem is in your registry. One of the functions of registry fixer software is that it will clean the corruption out of the registry. This function will only be activated after you purchase the license to use the registry cleaner function of the software.

However, after downloading the registry fixer program and before making any purchase, most registry fixers will allow you to use them to scan for registry corruption free of any charges. After you run the free scan, you will know if your computer's registry is corrupt and, if so, exactly how corrupt it may be.

It isn't Always the Registry

This is useful information because if your computer is behaving badly, it isn't always registry corruption to blame. So, if you can eliminate registry corruption as the culprit, free of charge, you can continue to track down your computer problem without having wasted money. **End Summary** Topics: registry fixer download registry fix computer speed
About the Author:
Can using a registry cleaner harm your PC?
Is Windows Vista 64 Bit Compatible With All 32 Bit Programs?

Many people ask me whether or not Windows Vista 64-bit is compatible with 32-bit programs. The answer is a very definite yes. Windows Vista 64 is compatible with many 32-bit programs, but not all of them. Actually, though your 64-bit Windows Vista will not be able to install all 32-bit programs, it is a big improvement over XP 64.

Microsoft suggests updating your computer before you try to install a 32-bit program on your 64 bit Vista operating system. After this is done, all you have to do is run the install program from the 32-bit install disk or downloaded file like you would on any computer. To get the latest updates, click start-all programs-Windows update. From there you simply follow the prompts to let your computer, or more accurately your operating system, update itself.

A True Advancement

This is quite an advancement over the Windows XP 64-bit version. This operating system was basically only compatible with 64-bit programs. Having said that, every 32 bit program will not install on your 64 bit Vista either, though many will.

I do commonly use Vista 64 on a laptop I own. I have no complaint with the operating system. **End Summary** Topics: Windowsw Vista 64 bit 32-bit programs
About the Author:
Is there such a thing as a 64-bit registry cleaner, do I need one to for my 64-bit system and how do I know where to find one?
How Do I Clean My Registry? My Computer is Slow Because it Has Registry Corruption

There are three ways to go about cleaning a computer's registry. The first way is not so highly recommended. The second way is definitely not recommended at all. And the third way is the only way to fly when trying to get corruption out of the computer's registry.

The first thing we should do at this point is straighten out our terminology. A computer doesn't have a registry. So, the computer cannot have a corrupt registry. A Windows operating systems use a registry to direct all of its operations. When someone says he/she has a computer with a corrupt registry, he/she is really saying the computer's operating system has a corrupt registry.

Now, let's go back to taking care of the problem of registry corruption. The first and not so highly recommended way to clean registry corruption is by using a free registry cleaner. Yes, there are free registry cleaners available. However, they are anything but free. True, they don't cost anything at first, but they give you a limited amount of cleanings and then you have to pay to continue using them. **End Summary** Topics: clean registry computer is slow registry corruption
About the Author:
Can using a registry cleaner harm your PC?

There is a lot of talk these days about how and why we would need to repair corrupt registry files in our PC's. The short answer is because a damaged and corrupted registry can cause a computer to run slowly and sometimes crash or refuse to start up. In an effort to fix a computer that has been acting up because of damaged registry files; even trained technicians have reformatted their hard drives, erasing all their files while they were at it, when in reality solving the problem didn't require such a drastic step.

Registry corruption makes itself known in many ways. A computer running slowly, giving error messages, freezing or crashing or just being unstable is telling you to run a registry cleaner to check for registry corruption. Even the blue screen of death is often the result of corruption running rampant in the registry.

What is Registry Corruption?

When a PC is said to have registry corruption, it is in a state where more entries are in the Windows registry than are needed. These additional files get in the way when the computer's CPU is trying to execute an instruction set. **End Summary** Topics: registry corruption corrupt registry files damaged registry
About the Author:
Can using a registry cleaner harm your PC?

A friend told me her computer was in her words, "aggravatingly slow." I asked her the normal questions a technician asks in such a situation, like does she have a virus cleaner program installed on the computer, or does she have spyware protection. I also asked her if she installed any new programs lately. To the first two questions she said yes and to the last one she said no.

The computer was a laptop. It is running a Vista 32-bit system with 1 MB of RAM, which seems to be enough for the type of thing she was doing with this PC. The reason I asked her if she had virus protection and spyware protection is because if infected with any of these parasites, a computer can certainly become "aggravatingly slow." The reason I asked her if she installed any new programs lately is that many times a new program will put a strain on the computer and thereby causing the computer to need more RAM to ease that strain.

Scans are Free - Cleanings are not

From working on computers, I see slow ones all the time. In the overwhelming majority of these cases; **End Summary** Topics: help slow computer 32-bit Vista
About the Author:
How can you get your computer's lost speed back?
Windows 7 32 Or 64 Bit - Which is the Better Choice?

Now that Windows 7 operating systems and 64 bit dual processors are becoming popular, many people are wondering if it would be better for them to get their Windows 7 in a 32 or a 64 bit version. In this article we will discuss the difference between 32 and 64 bit and even touch on which one is better.

Through the last several years we have enjoyed the extraordinary power the 32-bit computer has brought us. Along with the computer, of course was the 32-bit Windows operating system we used to run these formidable computer systems.

However, a couple of years ago high power computers took yet another leap forward on the power scale when the 64-bit system came on the scene. Because the number 32 is half the number 64, it sounds like the 64-bit system would have twice the capabilities of the 32. This is not true. Potentially, the difference would be more in line with taking the number 1 billion and adding 9 more zeros to the end of it.

Actually, CPU's and chipsets available are not able to take full advantage of all the computing ability 64 bit has to offer. **End Summary** Topics: Windows 7 32 or 64-bit which is better
About the Author:
Can using a registry cleaner harm your PC?
Fix Registry Errors - Can I Stop Annoying Error Messages From Popping Up on My Screen?

Error messages pop up on a computer's screen in order to let the computer user know the operating system can't find a particular file or files. In the early days of computing, files would be missing because a program installation did not go smoothly, or media, such as a hard drive, was not retaining information effectively.

Usually, the remedy to the situation in either case was to reinstall the program that was being used when these error messages popped up on the screen. Though it was very common for installations to go bad years ago it is not common today. Also, the hard drives of years ago and the floppy disks that ran our computers before hard drives used to, lost data commonly. In other words, some of the information stored on the magnetic media would get lost without anyone doing anything wrong in any way.

A Re-install

So, reinstalling this lost data was the only solution and the only way to restore it was to reinstall the program or in some cases the operating system. Bear in mind, reinstalling an operating system over an existing operating system usually doesn't get the desired results. **End Summary** Topics: fix registry errors operating system registry error messages
About the Author:
Can using a registry cleaner harm your PC?

A computer can lose some or all of its speed for any of several reasons. However, there is one reason that causes more computer slowdowns than any other. What is it? We will discuss the culprit in this article.

Viruses and spyware can cause our computers to lose some or all of their speed. In some cases, viruses can shut down the computer altogether. Virus programs are written with the sole purpose of destroying computers. So if a virus actually infects your computer it could disable it.

Spyware on the other hand is written to get information about you. However, as it is doing its work it uses many of your computer's resources and therefore slows it down. This is relatively common in today's world. Fortunately most computers have good virus and spyware programs installed on them. In fact, Windows operating systems will always remind us if our computer does not have virus protection.

Corruption Just Happens to Happen

Probably the most common reason a computer loses speed is registry corruption. Registry corruption happens when code is added or subtracted from our operating system. **End Summary** Topics: Fix My Slow Running Computer Computer Speed
About the Author:
How can you get your computer's lost speed back?
The computer's registry must be cleaned regularly or errant entries will build up inside your Windows operating system and potentially, be a major affront to your computer's performance. In this article, we will explain registries and why they can be behind a myriad of PC troubles.

In order to explain what a viable computer registry fix is, it is important to answer the question "What is a computer registry?" In technical terms, there is no such thing as a computer registry because the registry is actually part of a Windows operating system and not the computer itself. However, the term computer registry is widely accepted.

In short, a Windows based operating system has a hierarchal data base. It is this data base that is known as the registry. Data about anything the operating system has to work with, either internally or externally is contained in the registry. Windows has to have access to the registry to do even the smallest job.

When any command is given by computer software or a computer operator, the CPU looks to the registry for directions to the information it needs to complete this operation. **End Summary** Topics: computer registry fix registry corruption
About the Author:
You've learned a lot about registry cleaning software and why it is so important.
Panic Attack Causes- Our Thought Process Could Be Our Worst Enemy!

Whatever state of mind anyone is in at any particular time is determined, to a large extent, by what he or she is thinking about. Our fears can only be effective if we are imagining the things we fear as being realized. Generally speaking, we don't fear things we have already experienced; we only fear things we dread may happen. There are exceptions to this rule but usually we fear the unknown most.

In other words, the outcome of a particular situation may sadden us, but prior to this outcome we can only be hurt by fearing it. So, when we do fear what do not know will happen or what we do not know has happened, we essentially use fear as means to prevent sadness. Of course, this doesn't work.

Using Pleasant Thoughts

On the other hand, convincing one's self the desired outcome is about to happen at least, postpones fear, worry and sadness, while visualizing the worst outcome makes one experience these negative feelings unnecessarily.
In real world situations, the things we fear most are rarely realized. So, our fear of them does two things.

The Microsoft people have come up with a new version of an operating system in recent months. In an interview to Newsweek, Bill Gates announced this version is meant to be more user centric than previous OS's. This is a new wrinkle of an upgrade. Certainly, earlier versions of the Windows operating systems were never said to be centric, though in some ways, they were.

So, what does Mr. Gates mean by centric and what will it do for us? The word centric is derived from the word center. A centric structure has its main body in the middle and layers form around it which this central body controls. However, the real meaning I get from the way the word centric is being used here is that Microsoft is the central controlling body.

Tracers

The reason I say this is because Windows 7 uses tracers to keep our operating system running. Whereas Windows used to have you click OK to send a report to Microsoft after a crash, this is no longer necessary because Windows tracers will take care of it. While all this sounds 1984ish, it really is not a bad thing. **End Summary** Topics: Windows 7 centric system
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's. For instance, it was next to impossible to get a Windows 95 driven computer to hook up to a network. Since Windows XP was released, our PC's hook up to any network available without hardly any effort on our part. The reason Windows 95 was network unfriendly didn't have anything to do with networking technology not being available because it was available.

High Speed Cable and Windows 95?

However, broadband was not readily available in the Windows 95 days. So, the improvement that made Windows easy to marry with a network was born of the fact technology outside the computer forced the issue. What a wonderful development, by the way! Could you imagine using a dial up internet connection these days!?! Ouch!

However, most improvements to our operating systems have come about because our computers have become more powerful. **End Summary** Topics: Windows 7 Windows 7 Upgrade Windows 7 Improvements
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
Microsoft released a new version in its line of Windows operating system recently. This version of Windows is available for all types of personal computers and laptops as well. It is called Windows Seven. Windows Seven, like its recent predecessors comes in a home version, actually called Windows Seven Home Premium, and a Professional version. There is also a Windows Seven Ultimate and a 64 bit version.

Earlier versions of Windows had a lot of features to provide to the user, this new Windows version expands the user's options even further. The presentations that were given by the Microsoft people in the year 2008 were more focused on the redesigned shell of Windows and the new taskbar it features. They were going to call the taskbar the "superbar," but that name didn't really stick. Still, the new taskbar is bigger, but for all intents and purposes functions the same as the old one. It just looks, in the eyes of some, better.

The Need for Speed

More importantly, Windows Seven has made improvements to its functionality. **End Summary** Topics: Windows Seven Windows Tracers superbar
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.

The new Windows 7 operating system is now here it is full of many really nice new features. This operating system the new upgrade from Windows Vista but unfortunately not everyone is 100% pleased with this new OS. The detractors of Windows 7 are saying they feel it can be a bit sluggish at times.

How is it possible a brand new operating system could be slow? The two reasons we are finding that are responsible when Windows 7 is sluggish are compatibility issues and the iffy minimum requirements Microsoft has set.

New Computer - No Problem

Sure, if you buy a new computer you're all set, it is those who upgrade to Windows 7 who are finding problems. There are two versions of Win7 on the market; a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. The requirements are basic, a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of main memory, a DVD-RW drive, available space of 16GB and a support for the graphics of DX9 with a memory interface of 128 MB.

As always seems to happen, when upgrade a PC that is only equipped with the minimum requirements, you end up getting minimum performance; as in slow! 2. **End Summary** Topics: Windows 7 speed up
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today's PC's.
Why do Viruses Slow Down Computers?

Most people have virus protection installed on their computers. This is a great thing! Many of the virus protection programs around today protect computers against spyware and adware and all other known types of malware as well as viruses. This, too, is a great thing!

The word malware is the quick substitute word for the term "malicious software." It refers to any type of virus or spyware that can get into your computer. Some years ago, the only kind of malware we had to deal with were computer viruses. The job of a computer virus was always to annoy computer operators to one extent or another.

A Nuisance and a Threat

Some viruses were simply written as jokes. A computer geek may actually write such a script to entertain himself. On the other hand, the purpose of a computer virus may be to kill your computer forever! Even worse the goal of a virus might be to shut down a large network of computers. This would usually be referred to as cyber-terrorism.

Spyware are closely aligned with viruses. The subtle difference is a person who writes a virus is out to do your computer harm. **End Summary** Topics: viruses spyware slow computer
About the Author:
The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician.
