Plan Out Your Yearly Vision For The Retirement Life You Really Want

When creating your retirement plan (and getting the life you've always dreamed) it seems most corporate executives and solo entrepreneurs hope for the best. You keep doing what you've always been doing and don't have a strategy for creating the life you'd truly be deeply happy with. This is a big mistake, and just doesn't make sense. Think about it, you've been planning your entire lives, that's what made you so good at what you do. Why is it that when you retire you think you don't need a plan for your life?

I have tried writing out my goals, breaking them down into what I was going to do today, this week, this month, this year, I found it never really worked for me. I could get the plans on paper, but it was difficult to stay on track, it felt like I was being micro-managed -- by myself! It didn't excite me enough to stay on track to be able to achieve my new goals, I'd get bogged down in the process. They didn't catapult me into motion. I viewed them as being useless, eventually abandoning even the attempt at setting goals. **End Summary** Topics: retirement transition goal plan life retire midlife women executive entrepreneur
About the Author:
Tracey Fieber, Retirement Transition Expert is founder of http://www.NewFaceOfRetirement.com and Secrets to Retirement Success tm, a step-by-step program to create the retirement of your dreams, have fun with more friends, make more impact in your life, while having more time off to enjoy it all .
When A Successful Retirement Isn't Enough

Karen had a "dream" retirement: loyal friends, assets, holidays and status. But something was missing. To anyone looking at Karen Smith's retirement from the outside, she was a very successful retiree.

Prior to retirement, after 15 years in the corporate world, Karen had a significant number of loyal friends, a healthy amount of assets and a consistently good annual income.

She was well regarded by her peers, her employer and coworkers. Her significant other had been with her for a number of years, and she enjoyed a strong reputation in the community.

And since retiring, Karen maintained her contacts and friends, and didn't need to worry about finances.

So, why was Karen telling me something was missing --- that she wasn't where she wanted to be?

"I can't fully explain it," Karen said, "I just have this sense that I should be doing better."

"What does 'doing better' mean, Karen?" I asked. "is it more friends, more holidays, more assets?"

"Those things would all be great," she acknowledged. "But they are only ways of keeping score. The truth is that I feel I have reached a plateau in my life and I am stuck. **End Summary** Topics: retirement transition goal plan life retire midlife women executive entrepreneur
About the Author:
Tracey Fieber, Retirement Transition Expert is founder of www.NewFaceOfRetirement.com and Secrets to Retirement Success tm, a step-by-step program to create the retirement of your dreams, have fun with friends, make more impact in your life, while having more time to enjoy it all .
Overcoming Your Perfection Paralysis in Retirement

Have you ever become a victim of your own perfection paralysis when it comes to doing things yourself? I talked to a few friends who have been toying with the idea of getting together for months but haven't done anything about it. The problem is they're waiting to have everything complete, a place arranged, other things placed on hold, and have a list of places they would want to go, things to see, destinations to discover before actually selecting a date and getting it done. NONSENSE!

If I had waited to have all things perfectly settled before moving forward with my next step in life, I'd still have only a few friends in my life, and believe me, I wouldn't be moving forward very quickly. Instead, I believe in scrapping the traditional route and going backwards. Ask any friends or family of mine and they'll tell you I make a plan and move forward towards it.

For example, my family holds a 'girls weekend' every two years or so. All of the girls in our family (my Mom, sisters, sisters-in-law) all get together for a weekend of FUN!
Aim to Over-Fill Your Retirement

Too many people have an up-and-down flow of friends, especially successful entrepreneurs and professionals. Some months they have almost too many things to do, places to go, and people to see, and are WAY too busy, and other months, they're feeling like famine, wishing they had people to do things with. I've been there in the past, and there's nothing worse than experiencing those two extremes on a regular basis. It'll make you want to go back to a regular job for good, just for the consistent comraderie! (not me!).

I take a 'no excuses' approach to getting what you want out of retirement life. That means that the number one rule I have is that I do 'something' to bring friends towards me every single day. Otherwise, you'll find that no matter how good you are, and no matter how well liked you may be, your supply of friends will eventually dry up.

The key is to shoot for overfilling your retirement life. Most people just aim for having some people in it. That's not enough.
