Protected species in the UK

There are a multitude of protected species in the UK, including great crested newts, pool frogs, badgers, bats, water voles, otters and dormice as well as several species of reptiles, birds & plants, which can be very important when planning the development of a plot of land.

Since many of these species have suffered diminishing numbers due to a loss of habitat, legislation has been brought into place to protect these species. Alongside this, there is increased pressure for developers during the planning process to acquire detailed ecological surveys of potential sites at an early stage, with ongoing monitoring during the construction work.

It should also be remembered that environmental surveys are the responsibility of the developer. It comes down to the developer to ensure no protected species are disturbed, even if the Local Planning Authority have omitted the need for an ecological survey. Proceeding without a relevant mitigation license can be problematic since if any protected species are found during the construction, all work must be halted until mitigation licenses have been obtained, which is likely to take several months.

In most cases, work can proceed so long as mitigation plans are put into place. **End Summary** Topics: protected species surveys ecological impact assessments ec
About the Author:
The author works for an ecological consultancy who specialise in ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys

Will the Royal wedding save struggling business sales?

January proved to have a promising start for 2011, with retail sales resulting in an estimated growth of 29% when compared to January 2010. With January sales and VAT freeze promotions assisting with soaring sales figures, frantic shoppers trying to beat the VAT rise, boosted online retail sales by 86% on the day before the VAT rose by 2.5%.
However, the accountancy group BDO spoke of how these fantastic sales figures weren’t predicted to last, with BDO’s Don Williams adding “with January sales and VAT-freeze promotions finished, and Valentine’s day the only significant date, retailers have braced themselves for an ugly February”. It seemed they were correct too. February statistics showed the positive effect of seasonal discounting slowing sharply, and therefore suggesting that the recent VAT rise is in fact harming consumer’s confidence.
February sales ‘saw next to no growth across most sectors’, according to The Retail Gazette and with poor weather and little public holidays, the month turned out to be a miserable one across high street retail sales in the UK. Home ware sales dropped 0.6 per cent compared with January, while fashion revenues fell by 0.7 per cent. **End Summary** Topics: vat consultancy vat registrations VAT compliance VAT reco
About the Author:
The author works for an accountancy company specialising in VAT consultancy , VAT registrations , VAT compliance and VAT recovery .

Deciding on the safest and secure garage door for your home

Although garage doors are one of the most important features of a home, they are unfortunately the most overlooked when it comes to safety and security. There are plenty of designs however that do the hard work for you and help to prevent easy access to your home through the garage.

It’s obvious to firstly look at the most secure material available in the garage door market and it is true that garage doors made of steel offer a secure and affordable solution. However, one of the biggest issues with garage doors is the door not being secured correctly or being too heavy for the homeowner. This means that the design of your garage is just as important as what it’s made of.

The best design for a door that is both simple and secure, is the electric roller garage door. The best designs will have a hidden automatic lock feature installed and this aspect combined with the fact that they are extremely difficult to cut through, makes it near enough impossible for any passing thief’s to attempt to break in. **End Summary** Topics: garage roller doors garage door operators seip garage door
About the Author:

Piling on the pounds in winter

Winter is the season in which people are most likely to flock to the nearest café and snuggle up with a huge hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, rather than head down their gym for a hard workout. But do not fear if you’re feeling that winter stodge, for this article is here to give you all the tips you need to stay healthy and active in the wintery months.
Firstly – Reward yourself
No we don’t mean a huge piece of fudge cake or that giant galaxy bar that’s been staring at you for days. We mean real rewards, small or big but something you want and will work hard to get, like a new book, CD or even a dress?

Set goals for yourself too. Whether it’s to make it through the next marathon this year, to reach 100 lengths in the swimming pool to beat the last 70 you did, or something little like walking for ten minutes. Whatever goal it is, you will feel amazing when you reach it!

Secondly - Motivate yourself with a human
Find a friend who’s always motivated and a real gym goer and then ask to tag along. **End Summary** Topics: kingston fitness club fitness club kingston gym kingston
About the Author:
The author works for a gym who provides access to health and fitness facilities, in quality surroundings 24 hours a day at ...

Tips for landlords

As a landlord there is no doubt that the main reason for renting a property is for your own income. So therefore the following advice should help to ensure the money is easily accessible, your property reaches its full potential and the process is almost hassle free.

The first step is to make the property as attractive as possible to potential tenants. It’s a good idea to perhaps make a list of the things you would not put up with in your own home. These are things such as are the carpets clean? If there is a garden is it clean and cut? Do the walls need a lick of paint? Is there any mould in the house? The next step is to action these to dos.

The next is to make sure everything besides cleanliness is working. Are locks, appliances and lights all working in the property? Are there any leaks or broken things that you may have put off fixing for too long? Issues like these are extremely important to get fixed before the tenant moves in; otherwise a very angry tenant will be continuously trying to contact you and could take matters further in some circumstances. **End Summary** Topics: buy to let furniture landlord furniture landlord furniture
About the Author:
The author works for a company who specialises in landlord furniture london and landlord furniture packages with buy to let furniture ...

Renting furniture for Christmas

Throughout the year there are plenty of occasions where the need for a little extra furniture in the house is needed, however Christmas and the period surrounding the day are the times when people are in desperate need for extra seating etc.

Whether its a few extra family members visiting this year, you’ve just moved into your first house or you’ve lent the extra furniture you did have out in the summer and still haven’t had it back yet, furniture hire is the answer to every problem.

Firstly to purchase new furniture around the Christmas season may be cheaper if you find some good sales on, but who has the money to buy attractive and good quality furnishings around this period? Then there is the dilemma of whether the furniture is even going to be delivered in time. Bouncing bank accounts and beanbags on the floor is not a great way for anyone to spend time fixing on Christmas day.

The second reason NOT to buy furniture for Christmas is the added hassle of getting rid of furniture you now have cluttering up your house once it’s over. **End Summary** Topics: Furniture Rental London Furniture hire london furniture hi
About the Author:
The author works for a company where you can you find furnishings for any occasion with Furniture rental london and Furniture hire london with furniture hire

Japanese knotweed; from weed to wine!

Japanese knotweed is more than often associated with being an annoying weed; however its sensational sweet and delicious tang has also lead to a rise in cooking recipes with a variety of meals. From Japanese stir fry’s to winter soup, the weed is becoming highly popular in simple recipes both at home and in restaurants. One of the most common of these being the delectable Japanese knotweed crumble.

However, before you start thinking that the transformation from weed to wine is a difficult one, I’m sure the following recipe will shock your wine making skills at how easy it really is. With a few simple steps Japanese knotweed wine pretty much makes itself.

Firstly it’s time to get chopping. You will need roughly 2kg of knotweed stems for a gallon of wine from your garden and before you start weighing, be sure to take the leaves off them first. To make life easier, cut the stems into small chunks and then it’s time to give them a good soak in fresh water.

Next you’ll need roughly 1.5kg of sugar with the freshly squeezed juice of one orange, yeast nutrient and water. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Control Japanese Knotweed Japanese Knotw
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
Japanese knotweed is still causing chaos!

The news has recently featured many news stories claiming that Japanese knotweed is still a growing nuisance across the UK. The BBC featured a story about an attempt to save the native plant life at Moulin Huet, by cutting back the invasive weed whilst the Reading post claimed the plant is now actually endangering wildlife species such as slow worms.
As well as wildlife across the country, Japanese knotweed is also causing the construction industry substantial financial concerns running into millions of pounds in costs to eradicate the dreaded weed throughout the British Isles. This has also lead to banks refusal to provide mortgages to potential homeowners with the weed surrounding the building.
Japanese knotweed was first introduced to this country from Japan in the middle of the 19th Century and along with its destructive nature, it is now classed as the most invasive alien species in Britain. Nevertheless, is it completely viable to attempt to wipe out this alien species or rather control it whilst still enjoying its intrinsic worth. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Removal Japanese Knotweed Eradication Ja
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
5 Top Gym Mistakes

If you are a new member to the gym or have been working out for years, there may still be some mistakes that you are making whilst working out. Whether your weight loss goals have yet to be reached past their completion date or you seemed to have reached a brick wall, the following tips will help you to recognise the mistakes you are making, and guide you on how to stop them.

1.	Your always going for a workout by yourself
If you find that visiting a gym on your own is easy and you can stay focused then by no means carry on, however even top athletes use training partners. Training buddies support every step of your workout process, from giving you the motivation to get down the gym every morning to competing against your weight loss goal to push you harder. Finding a partner is a great step to keeping fit.

2.	Not even flu can stop you visiting the gym
Whoever said to exercise is the best way to get over an illness is completely mad! I’m afraid if you are ill the gym is not going to help. **End Summary** Topics: leeds fitness club fitness club leeds gym leeds
About the Author:
The author works for a gym who provides access to health and fitness facilities, in quality surroundings 24 hours a day at ...

Outdoor Garden Lighting Solutions

As the summer months draw to a close and the nights start drawing in, you don’t have to pack away the barbeque or the table and chairs. Why let the changing seasons force you inside, when there are plenty of great solutions to garden lighting available outside the natural one? Whether your outdoor seating is set directly outside your back door, or set further into your garden, there is a lighting solution available, whether it’s set, portable, solar or wired.

Lampposts are a serious solution to outdoor lighting issues. As well as giving off plenty of light they are solid, durable, and the best quality will last you a lifetime. They do however require a bit of digging and a lot of wiring to install, so it might not be for everyone. Also, it means you’d better be sure that you’re not going to be remodelling the garden any time soon, as trying to move one won’t be easy!

Portable garden lighting is perfect for those of you who want quick, easy and non-permanent lighting. **End Summary** Topics: Outdoor lighting Garden lighting Modern lighting
About the Author:
The author of this article works for a company that specialises in outdoor lighting , <a href="http://www.onlinelighting.co.uk/shop/garden-lights.html

Japanese knotweed: our friend or foe?

The telegraph recently stated when discussing Japanese knotweed that “In not much more than a century we've become blind to its delicate flower tassels and gracious leaf sprays, and now regard it as the most dangerously invasive plant in the country”. However, how many gardeners, homeowners and even mortgage advisors would take into account an invasive weed’s beauty?
Although there has been a recent rise in the domestication of the plant into a source of food the fact is simply that a weed is defined as a plant in the wrong place and so Japanese Knotweed fulfils this definition. It was first introduced to this country from Japan in the middle of the 19th Century and along with its destructive nature, it is now classed as the most invasive alien species in Britain. Nevertheless, is it completely viable to attempt to wipe out this alien species or rather control it whilst enjoying its intrinsic worth. Famous philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson's argued that a weed is "a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered" but what virtues does this invasive knotweed really hold for Britain’s habitat? **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Removal Japanese Knotweed Eradication Ja
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed removal and Japanese Knotweed eradication in the UK.
The reasons for a VAT increase and its effects

Back in June 2010, Chancellor George Osborne increased VAT from 17.5% to 20% and cut welfare spending as he moved ‘decisively’ to tackle Britain's record debts. Unveiling his first Budget to MPs, Mr. Osborne said "tough but fair" action on debt was “unavoidable”. According to the British Government, UK households, on average, will be about £400 a year worse off, with the poorest 10% losing £200 and the richest £1,800, although the poorest will be hit harder than most as a percentage of their income.

So what is VAT (Value added tax)? It is tax that is charged on most goods and services that VAT-registered businesses provide in the UK. It's also charged on goods and some services that are imported from countries outside the European Union (EU), and brought into the UK from other EU countries. **End Summary** Topics: VAT Compliance Reporting Services TAX Consultancy tax recovery
About the Author:
The author works for Accordance VAT specialises in tax consultancy and VAT recovery .

With Japanese knotweed you’ll never get loan-ly

Unlikely as it sounds, weeds do not just have an affect on your garden image or quality of your garden wall or floor tiles; believe it or not an article from the Metro last month proved that they can also stop you getting a mortgage.

Dave Williams from Cornwall attempted to borrow money from his Santander branch but was turned down the request of £83,000 due to the very tiny amount of Japanese knotweed on a land that he has recently purchased to extend his garden. Mr Williams claimed that if the weather had been winter the surveyor would not have noticed the plant and he would have been granted his wish, however irritatingly knotweed stays around as dead canes throughout the winter months and are not hard to spot.

Although it may seem to some that this is a ridiculous situation to be in with a simple garden weed, you will also be surprised at the damage this deadly plant could potentially do to affect your home. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Removal Japanese Knotweed Eradication Ja
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
Introduction to Forex Trading

Forex trading is the practice of exchanging currencies to either increase investments or protect companies’ capital from fluctuating currency values. Due to the huge amount of trading that goes on daily, around 70-90% of the trades are speculative, which means that the buyer has no plans to actually accept delivery of the currency, but is simply speculating on the movement of that currency relative to others.

The rest of the trades are typically initiated by businesses who will buy into a currency to protect their capital. This can also be useful for multinational companies, since they can then avoid paying conversion rates when payments are due in other currencies. For example, a company with an income in Euros could purchase Chinese goods and pay in Yuan.

Of the speculative trades, around 77% of transactions are performed by the 10 most active accounts. These are the large international banks, who provide buy and sell prices on all currencies while the market is active, 24 hours a day 5 days a week, from 2200 GMT on Sunday, through until 20:15 GMT on Friday. **End Summary** Topics: Forex traders forex broker
About the Author:
The author has an interest in forex traders and forex broker s.

Treating knotweed with herbicide

Japanese knotweed control comes in all shapes and sizes, however although herbicide methods are though to be very effective, using them alone can take several years to eradicate your Japanese knotweed problem.

As herbicides are known to mainly rely on the presence of living Japanese knotweed foliage for them to be effective, the difference between the knotweed being in leaf or dormant is necessary when choosing a suitable herbicide for its control. Glyphosate, widely sold under brand names such as, Rodeo or Roundup, can be applied as a foliar spray directly onto the plant. The majority of herbicides however is not effective during the winter dormant stage, (and also depends on the amount of Japanese knotweed that needs to be treated) meaning the best time to apply it is ideally between July and September when the plant is in leaf.

Japanese knotweed cannot be eradicated by winter alone, like many other plants. As cold weather hits, the plant survives as an underground rhizome and through the autumn it then successfully lives on the food stores drawn from dying leaves and canes. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Japanese Knotweed Removal Japanese Knotw
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
Moving can be a very daunting process for any home buyer or seller and typically any good estate agent will be the one to calm nerves and assuaged fears with their comprehensive services to setting up a new life.
The effects of Google’s new property search application however will undoubtedly take their toll when considered as an easier option. Google maps can not only let you view the street view of your chosen house and download the relevant details regarding room size etc, but also finds the estate agent letting the house for you, to ensure a quick deal. You can also search around the house looking at the space around it and type of neighbourhood the house is situated.
However a couple of clicks will miss some important factors in other sectors, which is unfortunately the disadvantage of technology replacing human contact. The roads may look clear and the house may look close to school and supermarkets, but how do you know what kind of traffic there is in the day or what school you are sending your children to through a computer screen? **End Summary** Topics: Furniture Rental London Furniture hire furniture rentals
About the Author:
Laura room works for a company where you can you find furnishings for any occasion with Furniture Rental London and Furniture hire with furniture rentals

Living in London

Being the capital of England, everybody knows how big and exciting London is as a place to live. Finding the right place to live in this area however may prove to be more difficult. Accommodation in London is extremely expensive and the very diversity of the city means that finding a suitable place to live is most likely to be a challenge.

So if you are still in desperate need to live in the most expensive place to live in Britain (according to times online), than budgeting in other ways seems the most reasonable option, to being able to afford to live. Budgeting in this sense could be a number of ways other than where to shop for food and staying in every weekend.

At times you will find the most money saving opportunities for purchasing living places in London is to choose the non-furnished kind. However in these cases, you may have the apartment but a low budget for furniture. You apartment is not going to look its best for a while in this instance and most furnishings dotted around will most likely be from friends, family and car boots but there are other options. **End Summary** Topics: Furniture Rental London Furniture hire furniture rentals
About the Author:
Laura room works for a company where you can you find furnishings for any occasion with Furniture Rental London and Furniture hire with furniture rentals

So we all know the delicious recipes that can be cooked up from the edible weed but what other uses can there be for such an irritating plant in your garden?

Known as the hu zhang, traditional Chinese methods have used Japanese knotweed for very effective medicinal methods, and today the plants potential for treating cancer and many other diseases is currently being investigated in western countries.
Chinese methods however, have been known to find isolated chemicals in the plant that are meant to act as antioxidants and antimutagens with cancer.

The plant is also used as a gentle laxative in large quantities and can be found in the plants leaves. Other uses are as a diuretic, in which the plant can be applied externally to sooth burns and skin lesions and apparently can work to stimulate blood circulation, clear heat and remove toxins. Although you can eat the stalks raw, there are so many delicious recipes to choose from there is every reason to make the healthy treat a tasty one. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed Japanese Knotweed Removal Japanese Knotw
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
Top 5 Reasons to Repair Your Laptop

When your laptop breaks your first reaction is probably to finish the job by throwing it against the wall. When your current laptop breaks it always seems like the perfect excuse to buy a new one and sometimes it is, but before you leap online or down the highstreet, take a minute to ask yourself a few questions and figure out if a new laptop is really the best solution.

1. Transferring all your data from an old machine to your new one can be an arduous process, and often in result in your losing some files permanently. If you simply get your current, although broken, laptop fixed you maintain your data as it was, your desktop as you remember it and all files saved in familiar places, this can be a lot more convenient than getting a whole new laptop.

2. If the cost of getting it your current laptop repaired is covered by the manufacturers warranty or similar such as an extended service agreement. If so then you can get it fixed for no additional cost, which is obviously a lot cheaper than shelling out hundreds of pounds for a new model.

3. **End Summary** Topics: Laptop repairs broken laptop
About the Author:
The author has been working in laptop repair and fixing all range of broken laptops for years now.

What's More Important - Link Building or Meta Data

Search engine optimisation is made up of two main constituents, link building and onsite optimisation. For years the debate has raged at which of these two sides is the most important. A link from another site pointing to yours is a vote of confidence in the eyes of Google. So the more inbound links you have other websites the more popular and trust worthy you'll appear to the search engines, especially if the linking sites are well established with original content and have a high page rank.

Some search marketers herald onsite optimisation as the key element of any successful SEO campaign. This is primarily concerned with aspects such as page titles, meta descriptions and keywords elsewhere in the coding of a landing page. Having well targeted relevant keywords disseminated across a specific page makes that page and its content more visible to the search engine's spiders and therefore perform well in the search engine results pages when related key terms and searched. Onsite copy also plays a big part in this area. **End Summary** Topics: Link building SEO services meta data
About the Author:
White Hat Media is a SEO company who provide bespoke link building strategies and many other internet marketing services.

Wok? You can eat Japanese knotweed?

Yes it"s true! On the edible weed front Japanese knotweed is more than often regarded as a persistent weed in your suffering garden, however now there is a new and innovative way to eradicate the problem.

Eating away your knotweed troubles may not sound too appealing at first, but you will be surprised at the delicious meals that can be made from the not so appealing appearance of the stems and leaves from the weed. Furthermore the knotweed has been now recognised as an excellent supply of antitoxins, vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, phosphorus and zinc, making it not only delicious but good for you as well. Its taste, you may wonder, is more commonly associated with that of rhubarb, however it has also been connected with the sweet and yet delicious tang of asparagus, so if you often favour these two components in your meals, Japanese knotweed is most definitely the ingredient for your cooking book.

The plant is best eaten when eaten around 6 to 8 inches tall and can be transformed into amazing dishes via steaming and simmering. **End Summary** Topics: Japanese Knotweed eradication Japanese Knotweed Removal
About the Author:
The author specialises in Japanese Knotweed Removal and Japanese Knotweed Eradication in the UK.
Keeping up to date with the latest furniture

Nearly every single thing we buy for our homes will need to be replaced at some point in the future due to either damage or fashion, and the cost of replacing various furniture round your home needs to be taken into account. The greatest way to approach this is to first work out how much replacement of your furnishings will cost, and also take into account how often it will need to be replaced.
Of course, many of us do not have the option of replacing expensive items that have become obsolete, however it brings to light the hassle of purchasing furniture on a regular basis. In particular, those who are landlords may suffer with this more often than not and may also have invested in a fund of regular contributions in order to buy items more readily.
New tenants viewing flats are looking for the place to be contemporary, fresh, modern and decorated in a way of which reflects tends of today; particularly those who are younger. They also are going to be looking for furniture that is in the best conditions as shabby furnishings can have a huge impact of the look of the place overall. **End Summary** Topics: Furniture Rental London Furniture hire furniture rental
About the Author:
Laura room works for a company where you can you find furnishings for any occasion with Furniture Rental London and Furniture hire

The Graduation after-party

Graduation day is most definitely one of the biggest days of a student’s life. However, besides the graduation ball and the ceremony itself there are other times when the university venues will need to prepare for large amounts of people.

The moment after the students hand in their last pieces of work and the period after the graduation ceremony, there is going to be party fever around the campuses amongst students. Many venues may hire bouncy castles and DJ’s for the occasion, however there is most definitely a need for furniture. Hundreds of students will need a place to sit, place their drinks and eat their food, so furnishings are extremely important for occasions such as these. Initially it may be thought that purchasing such furniture is the best way forward however with budget and long term use in mind, this is most definitely not the best way around the situation.

What Laptop is Right for You?

Many people are migrating over to using Laptops as their primary hardware, moving away from desktop publishing to something that’s more mobile. However before you take the plunge it’s still worth considering what your key needs are and what sort of Laptop is most suitable for these.

The variety out there is now massive so don’t rush this decision, take time to check out the market and compare the prices you find, online and in stores. Netbooks may be worth considering too; these lightweight, small and inexpensive Laptops are most attributed to general computing, browsing the internet and augmenting your access to other computational devices. However, Netbooks have received much criticism especially from IT professionals for lack of processing power, poor wifi capabilities and inability to match the general performance of Laptops.

There is a new breed of portable computer, the ultra thin and super mobile laptops like that of the Macbook Air and Toshiba Satellite series. These models aim to provide machines that are slim, stylish and highly portable without sacrificing any major computing power. As people enjoy the convenience of being able to work on the move, these forms of Laptops have proved particularly popular with business commuters. **End Summary** Topics: Ultra mobile laptops laptops for sale
About the Author:
The author works in IT and knows a lot about ultra mobile laptops and how to find the best deals on laptops for sale .

An Introduction to Penny Auctions

A penny auction differs to a regular online auction in the following ways. A seller lists an item to sell but at a very low price, lets take for example the person in question lists their computer for 50p but they charge everyone who wished to join the auction 50p for every bid they make. If the person gets 1000 people and each of them makes 10 bids you can see how they easily make their money back even if it’s not on the item directly.

Often the auction is timed and each new bid increases the time limit so that other users can also place bids and be in the position of potentially winning them. Once the timer does reach zero the user who made the highest bid gets the item in question.

So what advantages do penny auctions hold over standard online auction systems? Number one, the companies that host the penny auction benefit as they receive money by selling the rights to take part and make bids, as well as the final payment the winner has to make. **End Summary** Topics: Penny auctions Online auctions
About the Author:
The author used to work for a software developer specialising in online auction solutions for an online auction website .
