iPhone and Mobile Applications in 2010

2009 has been the year for Apple's iPhone, in 2010 will see businesses develop more applications to enrich their clients experience when consuming their products or services. The iPhone has not only revolutionised the way mobile phones function, but it has changed the way large businesses want to sell products. iPhones can help businesses in many different ways but the main two are - they can be your business or they can help you business.
Applets or Apps as they are known can really enhance the way you offer your products or services below are some key benefits of iPhone and mobile applications:

Ease of Access
iPhone and mobile applications enable stakeholders, employees, suppliers and clients to access information quickly over the internet whilst being remote. Both large and small businesses now understand the benefits of mobile applications and how they can be utilised for enhancing business process. Employee productivity and accountability, eradicating duplication, speeding up information flow, and selling products are just some immediate benefits an organisation can gain. **End Summary** Topics: mobile application development mobile applications mobile computing
About the Author:
Integrous are one of the UK's leading <a href="http://www.mobileapplicationdevelopment.co.uk">mobile application development</a> companies.
Why Mobile Applications Will Change Your Business For Good And For Better

When the economic climate demands greater efficiency and productivity from your workforce, and one of the greatest opportunities for increased efficiency lies with organisations that utilise mobile workers.

Efficiency Gain - Mobile Applications, workforce automation and PDA's

Typically, mobile workers get little help from the hundreds of billions invested in ERP, SCM, CRM, and other enterprise systems. Recent advances in handheld computers and the emergence of high-speed wireless networks has laid the groundwork for tying everyone into your information systems-any time, any place. Imagine empowering mobile workers by extending your automated workflows out to wherever their work takes them.

What are the Benefits?

Mobile Field and Mobile Plant Workers link into back-end systems and reshape business processes for greater efficiency in servicing equipment for customers or on production lines. Technicians use handheld devices to access equipment maintenance histories, repair instructions, and parts availability. Field service engineers receive and respond to new service requests, record time and materials, order parts, and document customer approval.
Mobile Workforce Automation using PDA technology - Data is collected and received in real time to speed ultimate service completion and to allow faster and more accurate invoicing for services - revenue leakage is virtually eliminated. **End Summary** Topics: mobile application development mobile applications mobile computing
About the Author:
Integrous are one of the UK's leading <a href="http://www.mobileapplicationdevelopment.co.uk">mobile application development</a> companies.
Clifton Suspension Bridge - Bristol's No 1 Tourist Attraction

Sitting on the beautiful River Avon, Bristol was once England 's second largest town and a major port, with a floating harbour at its centre. Today, although the docks were closed and the port activities have moved out of town, Bristol remains a thriving city, with a vibrancy that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Bristol has risen to the tourist challenge, celebrating the city's maritime heritage and transforming its original floating harbour and docklands into a flourishing area. Converted warehouses rub shoulders with new buildings to offer attractive shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, bars, museums and apartments.

Where ships once navigated carefully into port, the Harbourside is now a key commercial, residential and leisure area, running from the Cumberland Basin right in to the city centre. Sailing, windsurfing, rowing, canoeing and even waterskiing have all become increasingly popular. More and more boats are using the area, especially during the Bristol Harbour Festival, held every July.

While the ferries and boats give wonderful views of the harbour and the city, one of the most impressive local sights has to be that which greets passengers flying into Bristol International Airport - Clifton Suspension Bridge. **End Summary** Topics: clifton suspension bridge hotels bristol clifton hotels
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.hotelsbristol.org.uk">Hotels Bristol</a> is a price comparison website for hotel deals within the city of Bristol. <a href="http://www.hotelsbristol.org.uk/hotels-clifton-bristol.html">Clifton</a> Suspension Bridge is Bristol's No 1 tourist attraction.

Enjoy Christmas Away From Home - Christmas Hotel Breaks

Love it or dread it, Christmas is inevitable. No sooner have the stores taken down their Halloween displays than they're replacing them with huge spangly icicles, gold stars and beaming Santas. The pressure's on to fight late night shoppers, order turkeys and vast pork pies, and work out how to be in three different places on Christmas Day. There's no escape.

Or is there? Maybe it's time to start thinking outside the festive box.

For those fortunate families who love the annual round of feeding fourteen relatives, closing the curtains against the drizzle and huddling round for the TV Christmas specials and yet more chocolates - great! But what if you're one of those countless people who secretly yearn to be rebellious and dare to do something different?

Celebrating Christmas away from home doesn't mean that you have to lose the festive atmosphere - unless, of course, you want to! The possibilities are endless. All it takes is a bit of imagination and planning - and, if you stay at home, aren't you doing enough of that anyway?

As with anything involving travel and accommodation, budget will be a key consideration. **End Summary** Topics: christmas hotel breaks christmas away from home christmas travel
About the Author:
This Christmas, why not have a festive adventure away from home?
Take A Break & Escape To London Theatre Land

London's biggest concentration of theatres lies at the heart of the bustling West End, traditionally bordered by The Strand, Oxford Street, Regent Street and Kingsway. Some people also include the complex on the South Bank in this definition of Theatreland. The Strand itself is one of the prominent streets for theatres, together with Drury Lane and Shaftesbury Avenue.

The majority of the theatres are from the late Victorian or Edwardian period, with fascinating histories attached. Most of them retain great character and, for many visitors, entering a theatre's grand facade and taking in its detailed, luxurious interior all enhances their enjoyment of the show itself.

Musicals are the firmest favourite with theatre-goers and so tend to run longer than stage plays, many of them for thousands of performances. In fact, Les Miserables, currently at the Queen's Theatre, has been running for a phenomenal 24 years. It has even earned its own colloquial name of 'Les Miz.' Based on Victor Hugo's 1862 novel bearing the same name, the musical follows the intertwining lives of a cast of poor, unfortunate characters struggling for redemption. **End Summary** Topics: theatre london hotels west end
About the Author:
Cheap Hotel Chains price compares all latest online hotel deals across the world, ensuring you find the very best deal for your chosen hotel and destination.
The History Of Gravestones

The gravestone, in its most literal form, has been around for thousands of years. There is evidence of Neanderthal man having been buried deep inside caves in pits. Over the centuries, this developed into the practice of placing bodies in the ground and covering them with stone in order to protect the deceased from wild animals. This practice lasted for many years and people continued to place stones on top of the grave, as the superstitious believed this would prevent the dead from rising.

Gravestones have become known by many names. These days they are largely synonymous with headstones, tombstones or gravemarkers, although they have also been referred to as memorial markers, companion headstones, double deep markers and headstone for two. As well as serving as a lasting tribute to a loved one, gravestones are also welcomed by today's genealogists and are eagerly sought out by those keen to trace their family history.

Eventually, the concept of the cemetery evolved. At first these were simple graves dotted near the family home and rough stone or wooden markers were used, showing only the person's name, age and year of their death. **End Summary** Topics: gravestones history or gravestones memorials
About the Author:
At <a href="http://www.gravestones.org.uk">gravestones</a> .org.uk, we understand the devastation caused by bereavement, which is why we aim to make choosing the lasting <a href="http://www.gravestones.org.uk/gravestones-memorials-products.html">memorial</a> of a gravestone an easy process.

Iconic Civil and Structural Engineering - Hangzhou Bay Bridge

The Hangzhou Bay Bridge is the longest cross-sea bridge in the world. At 22 miles long (36 km), the Hangzhou Bay Bridge in eastern China links Jiaxing in the north to Cixi City in the south, shortening the distance between Ningbo and Shangai by 120 km.

The bridge has been constructed in one of the country's most prosperous regions and is set to strengthen development of the Yangtze River delta, also referred to as the golden industrial triangle. This triangle comprises Ningbo, Shanghai and Hangzhou and has the most rapidly growing economy in China.

Around eight per cent of the nation's total population lives in the Yangtze River delta area and its booming economy contributes over 21% of China's gross domestic product. The opening of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge offers new economic possibilities, particularly for Ningbo, as it is China's second largest cargo port.

So how exactly does the Hangzhou Bay Bridge cross the sea?

This sleek feat of modern engineering is a cable-stayed bridge, which snakes six lanes in either direction in the shape of a massive S. This form is believed to minimise the effects of the powerful annual tidal wave known locally as the Silver Dragon. **End Summary** Topics: civil and structural engineering civil engineering uk Hangzhou Bay Bridge
About the Author:
From their offices in Retford, HBPW have become one of the foremost <a target="_new" href="http://www.hbpw.co.uk">civil and structural engineering</a> companies within the UK.

Many people are surprised to discover that outside of London, Liverpool is the city with more museums and art galleries than any other within the UK. A fact reflected in Liverpool's appointment as the European Capital of Culture in 2008. There are no less than seven national museums within the city centre, including the interactive and award winning World Musuem. Art plays a huge role in the city's culture too, with nearly thirty art galleries regularly exhibiting artwork within the city.

It's not all high brow however, Liverpool is also an energetic city with a many high street treats for the shopaholic. The city's St Johns Centre plays host to over one hundred shops, ranging from international high street brands down to small, independent and quirky outlets. The glass-fronted Clayton Square Centre mixes cosmopolitan, modern shops with an open plan art gallery to represent the city's cultural side. Speaking of which, Concert Square hosts many of the city's performance venues and for those or a theatrical slant, the Liverpool Playhouse and Everyman Theatres offer some of the best and most varied programmes outside of London's West End. **End Summary** Topics: cheap hotel liverpool cheap hotels in liverpool cheap hotel chains
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.cheaphotelchains.co.uk/cheap-hotel-liverpool.html">Cheap Hotels in Liverpool</a> are ever more in demand as the city grows into a primary tourist destination within the UK.
The Most Ancient Books in Britain

In an age where we are now debating the advent of 'book vending machines' it seems hard to imagine a time when printing did not even exist.

The world's oldest known printed book was a seven page Chinese scroll, laboriously printed in 808 A.D. using wood blocks. However, it was to be centuries later before William Caxton was attributed with producing the first book to be printed in English.

Around 1475 Caxton, who had first become acquainted with the printing process whilst travelling in Germany, produced his own translation of a French romantic epic, 'The Recuyell of the Historyes of Troye.' He later printed a great work still reproduced in its thousands today, 'Canterbury Tales' by Geoffrey Chaucer.

Before Caxton came along with his printing press, many other books had been published in England, painstakingly written by hand, although records of these are more nebulous. They would also no doubt have been preceded by Latin codices, produced when the Romans occupied Britain in the first century A.D. **End Summary** Topics: ancient history books ancient britain history books
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.ancienthistorybooks.co.uk">Ancient History Books</a> is a new UK based website dedicated to discovering the best online prices for all kinds of ancient history books.
Iconic Civil and Structural Engineering - Goeltzschtal Brucke

The Goeltzschtal Bridge (or Goeltzschtalbrucke, to give it its true name) has been photographed hundreds of thousands of times across the decades. This remarkable construction standing in the Vogtland region of Germany is 574 m long, with four tiers of arches stacking to 78 m high, making the Goeltzschtalbrucke the world's largest bridge built of bricks.

A true masterpiece of engineering, the Goeltzschtal Bridge was built in the mid 1800s, when the age of the railway was at its most pioneering. The best route for the new railway link between Leipzig and Nuremberg meant that two bridges needed to be built, one of which must span the Goltzsch Valley (the other being the Elster Valley).

In January 1845 the railway company launched a competition, inviting designs for a bridge to cross the Goeltz Valley. Although more than eighty submissions were received, none of them met the specified requirements. The result was that one of the competition's eminent panel of judges, Prof. Johann Schubert, actually proposed the successful design.

As there were insufficient local supplies of natural materials, such as sandstone or granite, it was decided that bricks be used. **End Summary** Topics: civil and structural engineering civil engineering uk Goeltzschtal Brucke
About the Author:
From their offices in Retford, HBPW have become one of the foremost <a href="http://www.hbpw.co.uk">civil and structural engineering</a> companies within the UK.
The Origins Of English Toffee

Some things in life are just downright impossible. Can you keep your eyes open when you sneeze, or not pull a face if you suck on a lemon? Try rushing a piece of English toffee - it simply can't be done. Like sinking into a deep bath at the end of a hard day, lingering over creamy English toffee is a delicious time-out.

So where did this mouth-watering confectionary come from? Nobody really knows, although according to the Oxford English Dictionary, its name first appeared in 1825. Some claim it links to 'tafia', a West Indian rum made from molasses, suggesting that the toffee was once made using the treacly syrup from the rum's distillation.

In the late 1800s sugar and treacle became much less expensive, making the chewy sweet more popular. Many people in the North of England began to hold toffie parties, getting together with friends to make slabs of this great family treat. Closely-guarded recipes have been handed down through the generations. Plenty of these are now used by family-run businesses, as English toffee remains as popular as ever. Its natural habitat is dark, vaguely mysterious places, such as the glovebox or the bottom of a handbag. **End Summary** Topics: english toffee toffee sweets candy
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.englishtoffee.co.uk">English Toffee</a> is a new website that offers browsers quicklinks to the best places online to buy the finest, real English Toffee.
Taking On The Great British Winter With Your Caravan Cover

As the autumn nights draw in and you say goodbye to your caravan, don't be tempted to abandon it with little more than a quick tidy round. Emptying the bin, closing the curtains and locking it up for several months are not enough to see it safely through the harshness of a British winter. Your caravan has served you well, so treat it to some care and respect and put it lovingly into hibernation. By putting in effort now, you'll be rewarded in Spring by a caravan all ready to use in the warm months to come. How much nicer than facing last season's newspapers, fusty cushions and an alarming smell from the fridge!

Your first job is to take out all the contents of your caravan, including all its cushions. If you have room to store the mattress inside your house, this is even better. Then give the inside a thorough clean and polish, not forgetting the appliances, and leave the fridge door open to stop mould developing. Leave all taps in their open position and plug the drain holes. That's the inside done.

Now turn your attention to the outside and see to the tanks. **End Summary** Topics: caravan covers caravan cover
About the Author:
<b>Specialised Accessories</b> are the original innovators of bespoke, protective <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_caravan.htm" ><b>caravan covers</b></a>, <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_motorhome.htm" ><b>motorhome covers</b></a> and <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_trailor.htm" ><b>caravan trailer covers</b>.

Burials and Funeral Directors From Around The World - Amish Bereavement

We live in an age where every day millions of us are grabbing burgers, squeezing onto the tube train or rushing along with a cell phone to our ear. So it seems hard to grasp that in the heart of America there is a community that actively resists this 21st century way of life.

The Amish community lives as simply as possible, shunning all things modern, including cars, television and even electricity. They are well known for their dark toned (predominantly black) clothing and very plain, old-fashioned appearance. Amish women, for example, all wear long dresses, while the men have beards.

When a member of the Amish community dies, grief is expressed privately, rather than openly shown. Friends and members of the family may visit the deceased in their home for the three days between the person's death and the funeral. The room itself is cleared of all furniture.

Although the Amish mourners still wear their traditional black to the funeral, the deceased person is dressed in white. For males, this usually comprises white trousers, shirt and vest, while for females it will be a white dress, cape and apron. **End Summary** Topics: funeral directors amish bereavement
About the Author:
With origins dating back to 1853, E.F.
Why Your Caravan Needs A Cover!

We all know the potential damage caused by leaving a vehicle outside in all weathers. Would you leave your car out on the street when you can put it safely in the garage? You protect your car from the elements as much as possible, so it makes good sense to do the same with your caravan. Just like your car, your caravan needs care and attention, both inside and out, to reward you with many years of pleasurable caravanning and, when you come to replace it, keep depreciation to a minimum.

It's not only the hail, storms and snow of a harsh winter that can cause damage. Rain contains the same acids all year round, from a light April shower to a torrential downpour, and a build-up of sludge and green algae on your caravan roof is not only unsightly but very time-consuming to remove. As much as we all love to see it, the sun can also be a problem, with powerful UV rays attacking paintwork, tyres and upholstery. Windows too can be subject to damage, as their rubber seals are perishable.

The weather is only the start of the problem. **End Summary** Topics: caravan covers caravan cover
About the Author:
<b>Specialised Accessories</b> are the original innovators of bespoke, protective <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_caravan.htm" ><b>caravan covers</b></a>, <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_motorhome.htm" ><b>motorhome covers</b></a> and <a href=" http://www.caravancovers.com/accessories_trailor.htm" ><b>caravan trailer covers</b>.

Textile Recycling and How We Can Implement It

Recent research has shown that within the EU, 5-10% of our total environmental impact comes from the clothing and textiles industry.

Negative environmental impacts include:

- energy consumption and greenhouse gas production from the washing, drying and pressing of clothes
- resource depletion and emission production as a result of processing fossil fuels into synthetic fibres
- significant water use, fertiliser, pesticide and herbicide use in the production of cotton
- hazardous waste from products used during the dyeing process
- carbon emissions as a result of the transportation of large quantities of fabric and clothing worldwide

There are also a number of social and ethical impacts:

- poor working conditions, predominantly in developing countries, for those producing fabric and clothing
- limiting trade agreements and resource loss in countries producing the raw materials
- animal welfare

Textile waste is currently the fastest growing stream in household waste and is forecast to continue increasing as sales of new clothing continue to rise. The UK generated almost 2 million tonnes of clothing waste in 2006; of this, 63% (1.2 million tonnes) entered the household waste stream going to landfill. At least 50% of this could have been recycled. **End Summary** Topics: recycling bins textiles
About the Author:
Ware 4 Recycling Bins Ltd are a <a href="http://www.ware4.co.uk">recycling bins</a> specialist with a variety of custom bins, trolleys and <a href="http://www.ware4.co.uk/recycling-office-waste-bins-products.htm">waste containers</a> available online.

Documentary DVD Greats - Sir David Attenborough

Over the years, Sir David Attenborough has become a household name throughout Britain, known best for his pioneering natural history films, bringing wonder and amazing beauty to our television screens. In a career spanning almost five decades, both as a broadcaster and then a naturalist, there are few places left on earth that Sir David has not visited. In fact, it is said that, apart from astronauts, he has travelled further than anyone else in human history.

Having studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, Sir David graduated in 1947, completing two years National Service in the Royal Navy before joining a renowned publishing house in London. In 1952 he was to begin his long-standing relationship with the BBC, joining them as a trainee producer, travelling to remote parts of the world to capture rare wildlife footage for Zoo Quest.

His first expedition was with a team from London Zoo out to Freetown in West Africa, a trip that took three days simply to get there. Today we take air travel for granted, but in the 1950s it was far more problematic, taking Sir David and the crew up to five stages to reach destinations in the Far East. **End Summary** Topics: documentary dvds david attenborough dvds
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.documentarydvds.co.uk">Documentary DVDs</a> is a new UK based website dedicated to discovering the best online UK prices nature, history and science DVDs.

Ask in any pub quiz "who captained the Enterprise in the original series of Star Trek?" and every team will score a point from scribbling 'Captain Kirk.' He was, after all, the most famous time-travelling captain of the Federation Starfleet, in command of their starships for more than three decades. Yet ask those same quiz teams what the 'T' stands for in Captain James T. Kirk and most will resort to hazarding a guess or looking round to cheat. A soldier and diplomat as well as commander, Kirk managed to retain a slightly enigmatic quality.

Equally well-known is Kirk's First Officer, Mr Spock, half human and half Vulcan, renowned for his large ears, steeply angled eyebrows and strange haircut. Gene Rodenberry, originator of the show, believed that Spock's slightly devilish appearance might appeal to Star Trek's female viewers, but he never achieved sex symbol status (a label that actually became attributed more to Capt Kirk).

Mr Spock often had to fight against his human emotions, preferring scientific reasoning and steely logic. **End Summary** Topics: star trek the movie star trek dvds
About the Author:
With <a href="http://www.startrekdvds.co.uk/star-trek-xi.php">Star Trek The Movie</a> set for UK release in November this year, <a href="http://www.startrekdvds.co.uk">Star Trek DVDs</a> bodly goes where no price comparison website for UK Star Trek Fans has gone before.

The Rise of UK Hotel Chains

Millions of British people will have experienced bed and breakfast accommodation at some point in their lives and most will know that the stereotypical days of strict landladies, nylon sheets and clunky plumbing are over. Thankfully, the dated establishments and mediocre service of the good old 'B&B' have been refurbished with a more attractive, competitive approach.

Bed & Breakfasts and guest houses originally proliferated in places where the working classes took their holidays, largely British seaside resorts, although they also became firm favourites with business travellers, and many are still going strong. However, changes in the hotel market over recent years have sounded what many see as the death knell for countless Bed & Breakfast establishments throughout the country.

Although Britain's B&B's continually strive to offer value for money, they are rarely able to compete with the relative newcomers to the market - the UK hotel chains. With the advent of these chains came the beginning of a new era. Holiday-makers and business travellers alike were suddenly offered fresh choices. En suite became the affordable norm, rather than a facility only for those with bigger budgets, pushing the shared bathrooms of many a Bed & Breakfast into the shade. **End Summary** Topics: hotel chains uk uk hotel chains
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.hotelchainsuk.co.uk">Hotel Chains UK</a> believe that everyone deserves at least one night a year in a great hotel at an even greater price.

Burials and Funeral Directors From Around The World - Bereavement in China

As in many cultures, burials are taken very seriously in Chinese society. The rituals of Confucius Chinese tradition support prolonged mourning and to this day improper funeral arrangements are perceived to wreak ill fortune and disaster on the deceased's family. A widow could be perceived as 'the unlucky one' for the remainder of her life, because she had brought bad luck to her husband.

The Chinese funeral ceremony traditionally lasts over 49 days, with prayer services held every seven or ten days until the final burial. The wake must last at least one day to allow for the offering of prayers and a monk chants at night to ease the passage of the deceased's soul into heaven.

The corpse is cleaned and dressed in his/her best clothes, although never in red, which is the colour of happiness. All other clothing of the deceased is burned and before being placed in the coffin the face and body are covered with cloth.

Mourners are positioned around the coffin according to their rank in the family. Children and daughters-in-law wear black, as they are considered to grieve the most, whilst grandchildren wear blue and great-grandchildren light blue. **End Summary** Topics: funeral directors iconic funerals funeral services chinese funeral
About the Author:
With origins dating back to 1853, E.F.

Channel 4's Time Team would have been proud of a find in West Yorkshire that brought the Iron Age to life in the sleepy village of Ferry Fryston near Castleford just five years ago.

That's when a rare and nationally significant Iron Age chariot burial site was discovered as work was taking place on the A1(M) link road.

The Iron Age in Britain covers the period circa 700 BC to 43 AD and radiocarbon assay gives dates for the Ferry Fryston burial all lying within the 4th century BC.

It was only the twentieth such burial to be discovered in the UK, all of them unearthed in Yorkshire. Furthermore, it was only the second where the chariot was buried complete, with its wheels upright in the ground, a practice usually associated with burials on the continent. In Britain it was more common practice for the chariot to be disassembled and the wheels then either stood up against the side of the pit or laid flat in the ground.

The chariot at Ferry Fryston had been placed in a large oval pit in the centre of a square ditched-enclosure. **End Summary** Topics: funeral directors iconic funerals funeral services iron age funeral
About the Author:
With origins dating back to 1853, E.F.
Burials Through Time - Funeral Directors of the Past - The Saxons

The term Anglo-Saxon is a relatively modern one. It refers to settlers from the German regions of Angeln and Saxony, who made their way over to Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire around AD 410.

The Anglo-Saxon settlers were effectively their own masters in a new land and did little to keep the legacy of the Romans alive, bringing their own religious beliefs, although the arrival of Saint Augustine in 597 converted most of the country to Christianity.

Early Saxon burial rites included both cremation and inhumation cemeteries, featuring a large number of grave goods. Cremation cemeteries were common in the first two centuries of Saxon settlement, although archaeologists use the inhumation sites as the major source of historical evidence.

Early Saxon graves were sometimes too big or too small for the individual, suggesting they were not custom dug, and there was no consistency with the alignment of graves, with some lying North-South as well as East-West. East-West burials were common in pre-Christian cemeteries and may simply have been adopted because it was the same orientation of the church. **End Summary** Topics: funeral directors iconic funerals funeral services saxon funeral
About the Author:
With origins dating back to 1853, E.F.
Burials Through Time And Funeral Directors From The Past - The Vikings

The Vikings had a fearsome reputation as violent raiders and some would say that their funeral rites were no less horrifying than their reputation.
In Viking culture the 'level' of violence appeared to depend on the deceased's social standing.

Chieftains for example, were often 'buried' on burning ships and one of the leader's thrall girls - a slave in Scandanavian culture - would voluntarily accompany her master in death. Prior to cremation, she would have sexual intercourse with many men, a ritual believed to give her spiritual insight into the next life and report back whether her master was at peace. This was achieved by lifting her into the air so that she could 'view' the afterlife through a doorframe.

That done, the girl would have a rope put around her neck in preparation for sacrifice to her master and, as two men pulled the rope, an old woman, known as the 'Angel of Death', would stab the girl between her ribs with a knife. Men would beat on their shields so that the girl's screams could not be heard. **End Summary** Topics: funeral directors iconic funerals funeral services viking burials
About the Author:
With origins dating back to 1853, E.F.
My Fragrance - Direct From A Favourite Memory

Scientists have long said that scents from our pasts evoke memories that are just as strong as other cues, such as visual and aural recollections. Smells have also been known to heal, relax or heighten your moods. Aromatherapy has been in use for hundreds of years. Scent is a very powerful tool, so why not choose a special fragrance to wear especially for your holiday?

Think about scents that take you back to a fantastic memory. For some it is fresh sheets just put out to dry, or fresh rain falling on a hot sidewalk. Maybe its your mom's favorite Sunday perfume. For me it was tobacco flower, where I would spend my time playing amongst the tobacco fields. The scent was thick in the fields and the farmers would smoke it whilst they harvested the crop before hanging it on racks to dry. The tiniest linger of the plant unlocks my childhood growing up in Kentucky.

Think about the location you will be visiting. What items do you associate with the trip you would like to experience? What notes reflect its scenery? Culture? Cuisine? Common perfume notes are floral scent, woodsy, citrus, smoky, oriental, earthy. **End Summary** Topics: fragrance direct mens fragrances womens fragrances
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.fragrancedirect.org.uk">Fragrance Direct</a> is a new UK website, launched this summer, that seeks to dig deep and reveal the best online prices for <a href="http://www.fragrancedirect.org.uk/mens-fragrance.php">mens</a> and <a href="http://www.fragrancedirect.org.uk/womens-fragrance.php">womens fragrances</a> .
Things To Love About Hotel Chains

Out of all the years of traveling throughout Britain as the director of a marketing company in Bristol, I have learned that hotels are a better option for the professional traveler in many ways. Let's face it, bed and breakfast owners are not as flexible as a hotel reception when it comes to the common delays in airports and train stations. Late arrivals and early departures make hotels more convenient when arrivals and departures go wrong. Its nice when you have had a long day of meetings, conferences, and sales calls to arrive to an anonymous room, where you don't have to tell your whole life story and what you do for a living. This bit of privacy, quietness and calm is worth all its weight in gold for the business traveler. Owners of bed and breakfasts usually serve your meals, clean your room, they do it all, so they also know more about you then you might feel comfortable sharing, especially if you will be gone the next day anyway!

What is nice about hotel chains is that you know the standard you are going to get before you arrive. **End Summary** Topics: budget hotel chains budget hotel offers hotel chains
About the Author:
Phil Byrne believes everyone deserves at least one night a year in a great hotel at an even greater price.
