How to Avoid Credit Repair Rip-offs

As the major credit issuers continue to raise interest rates, fees, and payments many card holders will be looking to transfer balances to companies with, for example, lower minimum payments and fixed interest rates. For those with solid credit scores, finding new issuers that will accept balance transfers at agreeable terms will prove to be much easier than for card holders with low credit scores, large balances, and/or high ratios of debt to available credit.

For many, the inability to transfer accounts that have suddenly become too expensive to maintain will provide the motivation to seek credit repair in an attempt boost their credit scores. One form of credit repair comes in the form of offers for major credit cards at a small fee. The cards are then used as a means to show consistent payments as a step toward rebuilding a credit score. Like any situation where a combination of need and desperation exist, there will be companies that use the situation to take advantage of consumers that don"t look before they leap. **End Summary** Topics: Debt settlement Debt Settlement Company debt consolidation credit counseling Debt settlement services credit card debt consolidation debt settle
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Fixed Rate Credit Cards on the Endangered List

Interest rates with seemingly nowhere to go but up and recently passed legislation by Congress are threatening to turn fixed rate credit cards in to a dying breed. According to bankrate.com, approximately two thirds of credit cards outstanding currently carry variable rates, a number that is expected to grow quickly as card issuers switch their fixed accounts over to variables. Fixed rate cards, even for promotional purposes, now account for only one in ten of the offer letters mailed out to potential new card holders according to Mintel Comperemedia, a database and media monitoring firm from Chicago. That"s a 75% drop from the total of fixed card offerings in 2008.

Part of the reason for the move away from fixed rates is the current low interest rate environment. With the prime rate at a low of 3.25% and indexed to the Fed Funds rate of .25%, interest rates in general can"t go much lower but have plenty of room on the upside. With all challenges facing credit card issuers, they are not about to allow card holders to borrow money at below market interest rates should the Fed start raising their rates in the near future. **End Summary** Topics: Debt settlement Debt Settlement Company debt consolidation credit counseling Debt settlement services credit card debt consolidation debt settle
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Debt Settlement vs. Bankruptcy in the US market

A recessed economy and bursting of the real estate bubble have pushed borrowers to the point where they can no longer keep up with payments on their credit cards and consumer debt. For those searching for solutions, the decision often comes down to choosing between a variety of debt relief options. The options include debt counseling, debt consolidation, bankruptcy, and debt settlement. Of the four, debt settlement and filing bankruptcy have become the most popular of the solutions due to their advantages relating to decreasing current payments and the reductions in outstanding balances of debt.

For consumers, the two most common filings are chapters 7 and 13. Of the two, chapter 7 allows for much better outcomes for filers with steep reductions or outright dismissals of debt. Prior to the overhaul of the bankruptcy code in 2005 chapter 7"s were immensely popular for just that reason. Since the overhaul, the choice of which of the two chapters would be available to the consumer is decided by the court depending on the outcome of a means test which is the required first step in any bankruptcy filing. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USA Debt Settlement has debt settlement programs that will reduce your credit card balances.
Obama Versus the Credit Card Issuers

As debt settlements, bankruptcies, and the unpopularity of credit card companying continue to increase, the Obama administration reiterated its support behind legislation in Congress that would put restrictions on the imposition of higher fees and interest rates on consumers. Following on promises made during his campaign, President Obama met with top brass from the largest credit card issuers in the country to push them toward action that would reduce abusive practices.

The meeting at the White House occurred as the House of Representatives worked to finalize new curbs on credit card fees. In addition to the curbs, senior White House officials pressed for a provision that forces require credit card companies to prioritize payments so that the first money to come in from a consumer is applied to debt carrying the highest interest rate.

In a separate action on Wednesday the House Financial Services committee passed a bill that would decrease and/or limit a variety of fees and penalties currently being charged by credit card companies. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, D-N. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Debt Settlement, Credit Counseling, and the Difference Between the Two

As struggling consumers start looking at debt relief options it"s critically important that they understand the difference between their options, the overall effect each option will have on their financial picture, and whether there is another agenda at work when an option is suggested. Part of the confusion for consumers comes from how companies title themselves.

For instance, credit counseling was once a service originally provided to consumers by nonprofit organizations like The National Foundation for Credit Counseling and its affiliates, Consumer Credit Counseling Services. The original mandate for these organizations was to work as a liaison between consumers and credit card companies, negotiating lower interest rates and monthly payment plans for consumers that were falling behind in their payments.

These counseling services were backed by credit card companies with the intent of reaching out to consumers with a third party that was positioned on the side of the consumer. A negotiation" on behalf of the consumer would take place where interest would be reduced enough to keep the consumer on track and paying his or her credit card bills instead of walking away from the debt. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Debt Relief Options Explained

With consumers awash in debt and an economy that doesn"t look it"s going to save them anytime soon, the debt relief industry is thriving as new companies offering one or more of the services open for business on a daily basis. Each debt relief option has attributes that can make it the best choice for relief depending on the circumstances of the consumer. The following lists the four major debt relief options and under what conditions they would provide the best outcome.

1) Credit counseling - Credit counseling was a service originally provided to consumers by nonprofit organizations like The National Foundation for Credit Counseling and its affiliates, Consumer Credit Counseling Services. These organizations worked as a liaison between consumers and credit card companies, negotiating lower interest rates and monthly payment plans for consumers that were falling behind in their payments. Most credit card companies work with credit counseling agencies and will often encourage consumers who are having trouble paying their bills to enroll in a Debt Management Program (DMP) offered by a reputable credit counseling agency. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Debt pros and cons

Pro: Less Harassment

If you have ever had credit card debt before then you know how annoying it is to receive calls, letters, and even e-mails asking for payments. Once you enter a debt negotiation program, you"ll be on your way to reducing and paying off your debt, and those calls will often stop almost immediately.

Con: Temporary Setbacks

Sometimes with credit card negotiation, your credit score will temporarily take a hit. This may have you running for the hills, but do not give up just yet. As the phrase goes, some times you have to take a step backwards to take two steps forward. And remember, by making your payments on time your credit score will eventually come back up.

Pro: Improved Credit

If you have been in debt for a while then your credit may already have been affected. However, it is never too late to get your credit back together. Debt specialists will usually work hard to negotiate your debt down to a manageable amount, which will help you improve and manage your credit.

Con: Creditors Get Stingy

Occasionally when creditors are being negotiated for less, they start to get a little stingy. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Is Debt Negotiation for You?

Debt negotiation is a relatively new form of debt relief that is gaining popularity for its results in reducing credit card and consumer debt and because the process can also help homeowners avoid foreclosure by making home loan modifications more likely to be approved. There are two schools of thought on the subject; one that focuses on broken settlements, credit scores and direct negotiations while the other centers on the short and long term benefits of the practice. First, the arguments against debt negotiations:

* Broken settlements A settlement can be broken by either the party executing the negotiation or the customer. True, there have been instances were companies didn"t follow through on their promises to see the negotiation from beginning to end. The percentage of customers involved in those situations has been small and could have been prevented with some due diligence. Many companies have been drawn into the debt relief industry by the sheer numbers of borrowers and their escalating debt starting in the late 90"s. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
How To Escape Chase

In reaction to the passing into law of The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act (aka The Credit CARD Act), credit card issuers are raising rates, fees, and charges prior to the phasing in of the acts provisions beginning in August. Reaction to the bill has been swift as banks are notifying card holders that their fixed accounts are being switched to variables, grace periods on purchases will no longer apply, and that annual fees are being reinstated. Among the most severe of the increases is Chase"s hike of its minimum payment on balances to 5% from the standard 2%.

For card holders targeted by the hike, that increase will have an immediate and drastic effect on already stretched budgets. For those carrying substantial balances it could be devastating. For example, for a card holder with carrying a total of $40,000 the current minimum payment is currently about $800. With Chase"s new minimum, that payment will go up to $2,000 per month. With other options, like a refi to pay down the balance likely to be unavailable, a card holder still has a couple of choices on how to handle the increase. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.

The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act, which was recently passed into law, is intended to protect consumers from arbitrary and unannounced interest rate hikes, fees, and penalties charged to them by credit card companies. Despite being passed in May, the protections provided by the bill don"t go into effect until late February of 2010 which has given the credit card companies the opportunity to make everything in sight more expensive for their borrowers. Lenders have been raising rates and fees on credit cards since the fourth quarter of 2008, when the mortgage crises began taking big bites out of the profits of the issuers. Credit card companies, while fighting the passage of the bill for the first half of 2009, also anticipated its ultimate approval. That anticipation, combined with increasing losses in their credit card portfolios spurred a gradual upward creep in what it will cost a consumer to hold a credit card account. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.

If you have a credit card, a checking, or a savings account you"ve probably already noticed that the attached fees, charges, and interest rates are going up. Consider the first half of the year a warm-up for the really big increases going in effect between now and the end of February 2010. Financial institutions of all sizes are reacting to Congress" passage of The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act (aka The Credit CARD Act) in May and the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency by raising every charge they possibly can prior to the implementation of the bill next year.

The new bill puts in a list of protective measures preventing credit card issuers from raising interest rates without prior notice, and puts caps on fees, penalties, and other charges. The problem for credit card holders is that the issuers can do whatever they want before most of the protections take effect next year. Judging by their recent actions, rather than wait for regulations to limit what they can do starting in February, the issuers are going to make everything more expensive across the board over the next seven months. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.

Struggling consumers have more choices today than ever when it comes to debt relief options. These choices include credit counseling, debt consolidation, debt settlement, and bankruptcy. Opinions vary widely on each option but making the right decision is a matter of assessing a borrower"s specific circumstances in relation to how each method works and what the ultimate result of each would be. The following are five questions to help get the decision making process started:

1) What types of unsecured debt are you struggling with? Consumers are struggling with all kinds of debt including credit cards, medical payments, department store, and revolving debt. If the answer includes more than just credit cards, consolidation, settlement, or bankruptcy could be viable options.

2) How many accounts are you struggling with? If you are struggling with payments on one or two accounts, especially if the balances are small, you might try seeing what those creditors might be willing to do for you directly. If your balances are larger (totaling over $10,000) you"ll want professional representation to guide you through the options for debt relief and the execution of the proper strategy. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
If you"re struggling with unwieldy credit card debt or other financial obligations, you may be wondering what your options are for relief.
usadebtsettlement.org How Debt Settlement Can Help Against Banks

The great thing about debt settlement companies is that the really good debt settlement companies will give you straight answers. For example, banks are currently in a survival mode" that could last for years. Thing is, banks will never actually admit to this for various reasons. Banks may still be a safe place to stash your cash, but after years of lending money out to people who are in a financial bind, the entire banking industry is paying a steep price. So, banks, lenders and other financial institutions are changing the fine print in certain agreements, covering their losses, charging you more and so forth. Quality debt settlement companies around the nation are informing their clients that their debt and debt problems are due in part to the inner workings of troubled banks.

Customer service is getting worse (it wasn"t that great to begin with) and banks are cutting jobs so that less people are trying to do more work. That means if you"re trying to settle a debt and get rid of your debt problems, you need more time to handle the situation than you probably have available. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
usadebtsettlement.org What Banks Won

Debt settlement companies are accustomed to hearing how people aren"t getting true answers from banks, at least not complete truth. Every good debt settlement company will help educate you about the way banks and lenders take advantage of everyday people by only partially informing them.

For example, if you are a young person, do you know that banks and credit card companies target you? Students on college campuses and people who are under 25 are courted by banks because they don"t think about their purchasing choices over the long term. More than 120 universities have cut deals with banks to issue student-ID cards that are also ATM and check cards. Schools make millions of dollars from those deals. In essence, colleges are offering up their students as sacrificial lambs to credit card companies. No wonder people are in so much debt today, they"re taught from college that credit card debt is a good thing. Debt settlement companies can help you grow out of the mistakes of your youth, and become financially free.

Courts may seem like a haven for those suffering under mountains of debt, but in all honesty the courts don"t care about your debt problems. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances. Here are some shocking facts about bankruptcy that you should know before considering it as an option

Debt Settlement and the Obama Administration

President Obama has promised our country a comprehensive plan to bail the economy out of recession. In so doing, he may have accidentally misled some people into believing that money will be directly earmarked to help rescue individuals from the personal debt crunches. Now that news in this area is progressing, more and more people are realizing the truth: While funds are being distributed to large social programs such as Medicaid, as well as corporate bailouts and infrastructure spending, there is not now, nor was there ever any pan to bail individuals out directly as regards personal debt. While taxpayer money is being used to fund projects and bail out companies, consumers are getting nothing. What this really leads to is an increase in taxes, and an economy where almost nobody is willing to lend.

The Economic Crisis Makes Creditors Willing

Because of the massive worldwide economic crisis, families are realizing that now is the time to tighten their purse strings, take hold of their budgets, and get their families out from under the crushing weight of unsecured financial debt. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company Debt negotiation companies Debt negotiation firms Debt settlement services Debt settlement services
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Too Much Debt

Do you know why debt is a bad thing? Every American has some debt, and even Donald Trump has declared bankruptcy before, but seeing debt for what it truly is can be your first step towards financial freedom. If you make $60,000 a year and you have $10,000 in debt, that"s probably a manageable amount. However, if you"re making $25,000 a year and you have $10,000 in debt, that"s a problem.

Debt Calculator

The Federal government considers a debt burden of more than 40% of your gross income an indicator of financial distress. Think about it this way: if taxes are eating up 25% of your salary, you're saving at a healthy 15% clip, and your loan payments hit 40%, you're left with just 20% for everything else.

To figure out your debt situation, here are some steps:

"	Monthly mortgage payment (including property taxes and insurance) or rent +
"	Monthly home equity line of credit or loan payment +
"	Monthly car payments +
"	Monthly revolving credit payments (furniture, appliance loans, etc. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company Debt negotiation companies Debt negotiation firms Debt settlement services Debt settlement services
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Secured Debt vs. Unsecured Debt

Many Americans don"t understand the difference between secured and unsecured debt. In fact, few Americans even know either secured or unsecured debt exists.

Secured debt - Debt backed or secured by collateral to reduce the risk associated with lending. An example would be a mortgage, your house is considered collateral towards the debt. If you default on repayment, the bank seizes your house, sells it and uses the proceeds to pay back the debt.

Unsecured debt - A debt that is not tied to any item of property. A creditor doesn't have the right to grab property to satisfy the debt if you default. The creditor's only remedy is to sue you and get a judgment. Credit card debt falls into this category.

Difference

The most straightforward way to understand the difference between unsecured and secured debt to is to work out if your creditor can take away any item or property in the case that you are not able to repay the overdue amount in time. Common examples of unsecured debt, other than credit cards, are medical bills and store cards where you aren"t putting up any materials as security for the debt. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company Debt negotiation companies Debt negotiation firms Debt settlement services Debt settlement services
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Why Lenders Don't Want You to Declare Bankruptcy

The economy today is crashing hard, as you probably already know from personal experience. More and more Americans are finding it difficult to stay on top of their bills. As income starts to drop and prices and interest rates start to rise, people start fearing that they will end up in the poorhouse. Bankruptcy is a tough prospect, and nobody wants to have to go that way. Finding yourself in financial trouble and in danger of bankruptcy is an unwelcome feeling at best. Here"s something you may not have thought of, though: Did you know that your creditors are probably just as opposed to the idea of you going bankrupt as you yourself are? Possibly even more so, and the reason is simple: if you go bankrupt, they get nothing.

Here"s the truth: Assuming you"ve dealt with legitimate entities, your creditors are not evil corporations who only want to ruin you. It may not feel that way sometimes, especially when you start getting multiple phone calls every day threatening collection action. The reality, though, is that they just want their money, and if you go bankrupt, they"ll never get it. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company Debt negotiation companies Debt negotiation firms Debt settlement services Debt settlement services
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
Why Ignoring Bills Isn't the Answer

Your bills can start to get the better of you quickly in this economy. When you start to think you"re paying out more money than you have, it"s a frightening feeling. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but once you"re in the situation you"re probably less concerned with how you got there than how to get out. The most important thing to remember is not to ignore your bills. Take action before the problem gets bigger than you can handle. The more you ignore your bills, the harder it will be when you finally have to face them. So, even if you don"t have the ability to pay right now, don"t just ignore them.

Facing Your Bills

In order to face your bills, you need to start off by being seriously examining how much you pay out each month. If you"ve never before made a list of all the bills you have to pay each month, do that now and add the amounts all together. Often, seeing this number for the first time can be a shock. If you are shocked, then you"ve just taken a major step toward understanding you financial problems. **End Summary** Topics: Debt Settlement Debt negotiation company Debt negotiation companies Debt negotiation firms Debt settlement services Debt settlement services
About the Author:
USADebtSettlement.org has <a href="http://www.debtsettleinc.com" target="_self">debt settlement programs</a> that will reduce your credit card balances.
