Politics And The Internet

According to a recent poll conducted by ComputerWorld, about
forty percent of the population believes that people can increase
their political power by going online. Hence, many academics
believe that people in western societies are becoming more
technologically educated in order to gain more influence in the
political sector. For example, Mr. Jeffrey Cole, a director at the
University of Southern California states, This year, 6% of
regular Internet users said they have their own blogs, 16% said
they post pictures on the Web, and more than 10% maintain
their own web sites. In 2003, 3% of Internet users said they
blogged, 11% posted photos, and less than 9% maintained web
sites.(ComputerWorld, 2005: 1) Thus, the question raised by
many is, Is the Internet providing a more democratic and
participatory human society for the future?

Mr. Cole agrees that the Internet plays a pivotal role in
providing a more equitable society that encourages
participatory development. He argues that due to the
younger generation having the ability to effectively
communicate through Internet forums, they are more
willing to express their political opinions online. **End Summary** Topics: liberal political discussion forum liberal politics political forums
About the Author:

The Politics Of Fashion

Everyone knows that clothes make the man. From the executive
suits that litter Wall Street like the remnants of a ticker-tape
parade to the coveralls and work boots worn by construction
workers and mechanics, clothes tell the story of who we are and
where we're going. Even when the workday is done, what we
choose to wear on our own time is still a reflection of our
personalities. From the sweat-suit to the wet-suit, our clothes
are meant to be not only functional, but forthcoming as well.
Clothes tell others what we like, and often, how we spend our
time. Sports franchise logos are constantly on display on Main
Street America. T-shirts with well known television, film and
music icons can be seen almost anywhere. Clothes have
something to say, and people are beginning to realize that the
responsibility of being a walking billboard requires us to choose
wisely.

Now, more than ever, politics are entering the realm of fashion.
Blatantly political phrases and slogans are becoming more
prevalent on the backs of the public than the bumpers of
cars. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:

Surviving Office Politics At Your New Job

Whether you are just starting your first job or your 10th job,
you will find that office politics is consistent in all companies.
Office politics is something that is inherent in any company
you may work for. It's part of the culture and you won't be
able to avoid it. So just how do you survive office politics and
still get to make your talents shine? Simple, you need to
market your talents everyday, just as you did during the
interview that got you the job.

You basically need to focus on fitting in with the scheme of
things around the office. Be friendly and outgoing and offer
support to your co-workers and management when possible.
Refuse to engage in the sleazier side of office politics and
soon management and your peers will take notice of you.
You will win their support and respect.

Don't be afraid to toot your own horn to management. Don't
assume that they should know what you do all day. They
have their own agenda and may take notice of some things
that you do, but many things may go unnoticed. **End Summary** Topics: liberal political discussion forum liberal politics political forums
About the Author:
Author Bio::

Power And Politics

Many of the leaders in our society are guided by unhealthy
intentions. Instead of seeking to serve the people and heal
our nation's ills, their actions and decisions are primarily
motivated by their desire for power. Many of the people
running our country are run by their addictions to approval,
sex, power and control. Unfortunately, few truly healthy
individuals want to submit themselves to the necessary
abuses inherent to our political races - the verbal abuse
both given and received, the huge amounts of money spent,
the integrity sacrificed through the concessions, lies and
manipulations offered in order to win. Our system of
electing our officials is so corrupt that there is little
possibility of attracting a person with a strong, personally
responsible, loving inner adult self. This is not to say that
none of our elected representatives are honest and caring.
Some are certainly motivated by positive intentions but,
unfortunately, they constitute a minority.

There is no training required in personal responsibility to
run for office. Our leaders are not required to heal their
dysfunctional aspects in order to become honest and
trustworthy people. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:

Not Your Traditional Office Politics

I spent years in deep denial about office politics. I flatly
refused to believe it was necessary to "play" politics in
order to succeed. And - with a symbolic if not actual
stamp of my foot - if it was necessary, then I'd sacrifice
my career on the altar of my disdain!

Many people confound themselves with the same denial and the
same definition of office politics: bad, deceitful, backstabbing,
brown-nosing - all of the slimy things we often think of, both in
and out of the office, when we hear the word "politics."

Many years later, and after teaching myself and others to
navigate successfully through a lot of political undercurrents,
my viewpoint has turned around completely. Successful
personal politics, both at home and in the office, is nothing
more - and certainly nothing less - than the art of
understanding and practicing meaningful, alert, and complete
communication.

Let's look at these three components individually.

Meaningful communication has a wide scope, ranging from
avoiding the use of jargon and overly technical explanations,
to simply being sure we're giving our audience what they need. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:

Creating An Environment For Innovation In The Office

The environment of the office coupled with other crucial
factors acts as a determining factor in the overall thinking
process and eventual reactions of your workforce at any
specified time. The overall environment plays a
fundamental role in shaping the outcomes of events and
can result in desirable circumstances or deviations from
the goals if not paid appropriate attention.

A normal working individual spends at least eight to ten
hours a day in the office, not including the travel time.
They pass the rest of the time engaged in the other daily
chores of life. If you add onto this the travel time,
accounting for the increasing traffic in cities, and the time
spent in dressing for the office or preparing for the next
day, the time dedicated toward the office could increase
to twelve to fifteen hours a day. Now consider a situation
wherein you are spending the chunk of your day at a
place you don't enjoy. The environment is stuffed and
managing office politics is more crucial than any other
part of the day's work. **End Summary** Topics: liberal political discussion forum liberal politics political forums
About the Author:
Author Bio::

Preacher Gets Religion; Is Overcome By Tolerance

The Reverence Gregory Gird, preacher at a thriving megachurch
with 5,000 devoted members, caused quite a stir and lost 1,000
adherents when he gave a sermon in which he came right out
and defended tolerance.

There were early warning signs that he might advocate the now
intolerable virtue. When asked repeatedly by members to
announce that he was against all the things right-thinking
people are supposed to abhor, such as gay divorce, abortion
for recreational purposes, and Democrats in general, he
repeatedly demurred.

Apparently, he finally could no longer restrain himself from
divulging his true thoughts. He preached, not only one, but
six sermons in which he actually advocated the separation
of church and state, cautioned members against the
superimposition of their own guidelines on sexual inclinations,
advised them to stop referring to America as a Christian
nation, and encouraged them to make a place in their hearts
for that radical document, The Bill Of Rights.

Most calamitously of all, he dared to advise them that having
Christ in their hearts meant they should love everybody, even
people who don't agree with them. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:
Author Bio::

Hall Of Fame - Vienna City Hall

The ambitious program of architectural improvements to Vienna
introduced by Emperor Franz Joseph I, including the Ringstraße,
the Rathauspark (City Hall Park), and the Opera. Friedrich von
Schmidt, who had been one of the architects working on Cologne
Cathedral, designed and built the Vienna City Hall between 1872
and 1883. It is the most significant secular building in the neo-
Gothic style in the city.

As Vienna is Austria's federal capital as well as a federal
province in its own right, it is the seat of the mayor and
governor of Vienna - two posts held by the same person.
The Provincial Assembly is composed of 100 members
and elected for a term of five years.

The huge chandelier in the historicist style is the most
striking feature of the 14-metre-high Council Chamber
where the members of the Assembly convene. It has a
diameter of five meters and 213 lights. It was cast in one
piece, weighs 3,200 kg and can be entered by maintenance
personnel to change the lamps. The coffered ceiling of high-
grade larch and spruce wood is decorated with 22-carat gold-
leaf rosettes. **End Summary** Topics: liberal political discussion forum liberal politics political forums
About the Author:

Got Communication?

Do you know what "communication" really means to you,
personally? Does it mean the same to you as it does to
your friends, family, and co-workers?

Most people think they understand communication, but even a
dictionary describes only a sadly pale representation of the
potential reality. Definitions do usually include the notion that
communication involves more than just the written or spoken
word - but did you know that ants and iguanas communicate
with chemicals, and bees by dancing?

So, what do you communicate with your choice of personal
scents (chemicals)? Do you realize that this includes perfumes,
deodorants, soaps, shampoos, and laundry products? What
messages do you send with your individual style of dancing?
Did you know that the pupils of your eyes dilate when you are
attracted to someone?

Most people are aware of the concept of non-verbal communication,
and generally assume this means body language and facial
expressions. The Victorians, though, could carry on entire
conversations using only flowers. The same is possible with
crystals, colors, animals (use their images to avoid creating
zoos of conversational by-play!), and - with a little bit of a stretch
to accept modern-day interpretations - Celtic knotwork. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:
Author Bio::

Financial and Political Problems Plague the Troubled St. Louis Schools

The 2006-2007 school year for the St Louis schools brings with
it a financial deficit and accreditation problems carried over
from the previous board majority. Additionally, superintendent
Creg Williams' proposed budget was voted down on June 13,
so currently there is no budget for the upcoming school year.

Financial Deficit

The current financial deficit was caused by the state, when
it refused to honor its contract with the St Louis schools
under the desegregation agreement of 1999. Abruptly
during the 2002-2003 school year, the state cut off the
funding and flatly refused to honor the agreement to pay
the required funding -- and has not paid a cent since.

The St Louis schools sued the state and won the lawsuit
in circuit court. The state appealed the decision and has
been dragging out the process ever since, delaying any
decision on the appeal. The total amount in arrears that

How To Hire Qualified And Reliable People

Ask your accounts department to list all the assets of the
company and examine their evaluation. Ask your research
team to estimate the monthly financial requirements in
comparison to the competition. Instruct supervisors to get
the requisite production ready. Instruct the direct marketing
team to create ample demand. What about human resources?

If human resources, falls last on your allocation of time, then
you are missing the most basic key to success behind the
desired implementation in the various fields stated above.
The key that acts as an enabler for all the stated crucial
tasks is the manpower, without which any firm, irrespective
of size or nature, is dysfunctional.

Failures have always been attributed to various factors, but
such case studies always seem to overlook the importance
of hiring high quality and reliable people for the overall
operations.

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Hiring Skill Duplication:
Successful Directors, who started small, believe that they
know it all and this picture motivates them to replicate their
own skills while hiring. There is a tendency to ignore the
requisite diversity and this tends to create a shortage of
skill sets at a later stage. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:
Author Bio::

How to make a man?

When an oscar winner Mel Gibson was stopped by the police in
Malibu and was told that he's being arrested for drunk driving, he
became infuriated and started uncontrollably swearing and
insulting the men in blue. The media quickly grabbed this news
insinuating that he has major drinking problem, but only until they
found out the most important detail. Mel has asked the deputy
sheriff if he was a Jew and with hate in his eyes said: « Jews are
guilty of all the wars happening in the world!« Now he is facing six
months in jail. Meanwhile Mel beggs public for forgivness and
apologizes to the Jew community, many predict that this is the
end of his acting career.

Regardless of how long we could moralize about his outburst of
deep-rooted hatred, the fact is, that our society didn't improve
one bit from the end of the second World War. Evolution is
taking place on a biologial level, but in spirit remains dualism.
Either you are Jew or Catholic, East or West, black or white,
good or bad, with us or against us. **End Summary** Topics: liberal political discussion forum liberal politics political forums
About the Author:
Author Bio::

Is The Removal Of God From Our Government Patriotic?

I fail to understand how this great country of ours is constantly
attacked by civil liberties groups, in an attempt to abolish all
forms of God from all government institutions, or anything that
is government subsidized, like our public schools.

The oath of office to be sworn in with, at most government posts,
whether is be legislative or judicial ends in "So help me God",
including the office of the President of the United States. This
is meant and used as a legally binding factor to hold them legally
accountable for their actions while in office. Shall we remove this
ending from the oath and just take a chance that they will do the
best that they can, because they are such a nice person? When
we are in a court of law, should we not ask a witness who is
about to give testimony to swear under oath, "The truth, the whole
truth, and nothing but the truth", and then not add "So help me
God", which is meant to hold them accountable to a higher
authority as well as the court?

While we are at it, shall we burn all the U.S. **End Summary** Topics: political forums liberal political discussion forum liberal politics
About the Author:
Author Bio::
