First Aid & Trauma: Tips to know so you can quickly and competently navigate through your First Aid

Nearly everyone will have to use a first aid kit sooner or later. Sooner or later everyone will need to use a first aid kit. It's important to know where the general groups of items are located in your kit so that in an alarming situation you know where things are. (This is important whether it will be used on oneself or another!) It's also important to know which items should be used to address which situations. Knowing which items should be used to address which situations is also important. Listed below are 3 helpful tips that can assist you in navigating a little easier through your kit during an emergency.

1. Be sure to to open and prepare your first aid kit for use before an accident occurs when you first receive it. Make sure you know when you'd need to use what and where the items are. It might be beneficial to label which group of items are located in which pocket, when exploring through your first aid kit. This can be done by writing with pen or marker on masking-tape, or by using a labeler.

2. Look through your kit before you put it in storage. **End Summary** Topics: first-aid-kit
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.thereadystore.com/emergency-first-aid">First Aid Kits</a>

Need Helpful InformationAbout Water Storage.

One of my most commonly addressed subjects that the general public doesn't seem to know much about is water storage. Storing water is one of the most overlooked items in emergency preparedness, but it is easily one of the most important.
Water is commonly one of the first things to become contaminated after a disaster, but it is essential to living. Death caused by dehydration can occur in 5 days or even less in hot weather, but drinking water isn't the only thing we need to be prepared with. We also use water to clean injuries, cooking and eating supplies, and for personal hygiene.

It's important to know how much water you should store. The Red Cross recommends a minimum of one gallon per person per day in an emergency situation. In colder or warmer temperatures the need for water is even greater. The need for water also increases with exertion.

We recommend that you have at least 3 different way to access your water:

* Large barrels are perfect for storing large amounts of water, but are obviously not portable since when full they can weigh over 400 lbs. **End Summary** Topics: Water Storage Clean Water Pure Clean Safe Water Emergnecy Water
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.thereadystore.com/emergency-water">Water Storage</a>

Home Ready Tips

When preparing your home for a possible disaster, there are many simple things you can do. The 12 listed below are just a few of many ways you can make your home a little more disaster proof.

Windows- One option is to purchase the appropriate wind resistant window and shutters in case of high winds. Another option is to cover windows with plywood if you know a severe storm is on its way. Positioning beds directly beneath large windows is also not recommended.

Doors- Especially in areas prone to high winds, make sure your doors that lead outside have reliable dead bolts and tight secure hinges. Repair any split or cracks in the doors, immediately. It's best for doors that lead outside to be made of either solid wood or hollow steel.

Emergency Kits- A 72-hour kit per person in the home is recommended. These should be kept in easy-to-access places, and should include updated, age appropriate items for each individual. keeping a first aid kit in an easily accessible area is important as well. **End Summary** Topics: Disaster Preparedness Food Storage Freeze-Dried Food MREs
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.thereadystore.com/on-sale">MREs</a>

It's important to think of everyone you're responsible for when preparing for an emergency. This includes you, your children, and also your pets. It's important to have everything ready to go at a moment's notice when you're making a 72-hour-kit for your pet. That means items that do not require refrigerating, and items with a long shelf-life. Be sure that what you choose to include in your pet's 72-hr-kit is easy to carry.

In your pet disaster kit, you should include:

*Food and for at least three days for each pet. Pets can often drink water from nearby pools, lakes, rivers, and steams without getting sick. If you don't have any of these water supplies nearby, include water in this kit for your pet as well.
*Sturdy leashes, harnesses, and carriers to transport pets safely and to ensure that your pets can't escape. You may want to include blankets and towels for comfort and warmth.
*Current information regarding your pets, including a photo to help others identify them in case you and your pet become separated. (This can also be used to prove that it belongs to you.)
*Small pet toys to reduce anxiety and stress. **End Summary** Topics: 72-Hr-Kits Pets Pet Preparedness
About the Author:
www.thereadystore.com

Find Useful Secrets About MREs

Military MREs (Meal Ready to Eat) are a must in your emergency food storage. MREs are used by the U.S. Military to give them the nutrition and energy they need to survive in the most extreme times. Fresh, first-run MREs are great for use during any disaster and are excellent for a grab and go” emergency. It's recommended that you stock up and make sure you have a fresh supply on hand.

There are a lot of questions about MREs. Here is a quick review. Or in other words, "MRE 101."

 * You can buy MREs. The Department of Defense contractors make them to military specifications, the only difference is they come in civilian packaging.

MRE's store about 5-7 years if stored at 75 degrees or less. If you store them in cool temperatures, they will last longer.
Since MREs have no expiration date, it's hard to know when they have gone bad. They do however last a very long time. Use the smell test to see if they have gone rancid.
* How do I read the manufacture date on my MREs? **End Summary** Topics: MRE MREs MRE's
About the Author:
For the best tips on emergency preparedness go to <a href="http://www.thereadystore.com/">http://www.thereadystore.com/</a>

Disaster Preparedness: Mental and Emotional Preparation for Our Little Ones

There’s often no way to know when you’ll find your family in an emergency situation. These events might be frightening for adults, but they’re terrifying and traumatic for children. (Especially if they haven’t been taught what to do.)

In case of a disaster, children should not only be equipped with physical protection, like a 72-hr-kit, shelter, food, and water, but they should also be prepared mentally and emotionally. If danger is near, children may become anxious, confused, and shaken. They need to be taught what to do and given guidance that will help reduce their fears. It’s also important to remember that children look to adults for help. If you react to a problem with alarm, a child can see evidence that the danger is real. If you stay calm, the child will also try to be calm. An emergency will have a lasting impact on an observing child based on your response.

Mental Preparation

• Plan a meeting place a safe distance for your home where your family can meet if a disaster requires evacuation. This place can be a relative’s or family friend’s house, a school, or a church nearby. **End Summary** Topics: Emergency Preparedness Mental Health Childrens Health Disaster preparedness
About the Author:
For the best emergency tips visit http://www.thereadystore.com

What to Do in the Case of an Earthquake: supplies to have, how to be prepared before, during and aft

If you know your history, you understand the life changing effects the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake had. The quake lasted only a minute, but was one of the worst natural disasters in the nation’s history. Everyone can be affected by an earthquake, even if they’re not located by a fault line. Everyone should be ready for an earthquake regardless of their location. When preparing for any emergency, it’s important to be supplied with even the most basic tools for survival, (safe shelter, clean water and food.) Grab-n-Go supplies, including 72-hr-kits, food, and water, should also be kept in an easily accessible location at all times.

Know of a Safe Location
People are often injured during and earthquake by falling objects. You should hide underneath a stable object during an earthquake. Be aware of the location of all low sturdy furniture in your home, school or workplace. (Metal door frames, desks, sturdy, and low tables are ideal objects to get under.) If sturdy furniture is not available, be aware of an interior wall or hallway far from windows and potentially unstable furniture. Know where to locate these areas before an actual earthquake happens. **End Summary** Topics: Earthquake Earthquake Prepardness What to do during an Earthquake
About the Author:
The Ready Store is your one stop for expert preparedness information and supplies visit http://www.thereadystore.com.

Calories vs. Nutrition

There are many different opinions about what is more important in an emergency: calories or nutritional value. Ideally, you want to consider both in your food storage plan. Quite a few storage kits ignore proper nutrition and emphasize calories to sustain life. Sugars, that are made up of empty calories should be kept to a minimum. A great many of these products give you mostly powdered fruit drinks, potatoes and other sugars. Just like in your daily diet, you should have a balanced food storage diet that includes: vegetables, fruits, protein and carbohydrates. Make sure you know how to use your food storage. A bucket of wheat might make you feel good, but if you don't know how to use it, it most likely will not be used.

Nutrition is the science of foods and the nutrients they contain. Nutrition includes the study of the actions of the nutrients within the body, including ingestion, digestion, absorption, transport, metabolism and excretion. There are seven major types of nutrients which are: carbohydrates, fats, fiber, minerals, protein, vitamins, and water. Fats, carbohydrates, and proteins provide energy but minerals, fiber, vitamins, and water do not. **End Summary** Topics: Food Storage Freeze Dried Food MRE Health Emergency Prepardness
About the Author:
Take full advantage of our nutritional freeze dried food products and visit <a href="http://www.thereadystore.com/">http://www.thereadystore.com/</a>
