It's tempting to think that most sports problems would go away if only the gazillionaire owners would act more like fans. If they bled team colors like we do, they'd never let beloved free agents walk or threaten to leave town unless they got new stadiums…right?

Well, no. Being a fanatic and an owner means never having to admit you've gone too far. Just ask Al Davis, whose Raiders are one of only a few franchises to continue to go backwards year after year. What happened to this once proud franchise?

Since losing Super Bowl XXXVII, Oakland has churned through head coaches (four) and QBs (nine) on its way to an embarrassing 24-72 record, wrecking one of the great brands in the history of sports. But admit it: If you got your hands on a pro team, you'd probably run it the way Davis does. Drafting big-name super athletes: Darren McFadden! JaMarcus Russell! Throwing money at key players: $45 million to Nnamdi Asomugha! Publicly savoring every victory, while stewing over defeats for years. **End Summary** Topics: NFL Oakland Raiders Al Davis
About the Author:
NFL and fantasy football fans check out my new site http://www.oaklandraiderscentral.com for commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.
2009 Pittsburg Steelers Fantasy Football Preview

The Pittsburg Steelers won their 6th Super Bowl title and 2nd in 4 years in 2008 by defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in a heartstopping classic. Ben Roethlisberger rebounded from his poor showing a couple years earlier against Seattle by completing 21-30 passes for 256 yards and the game winning TD to Santonio Holmes with just seconds left. Although the Steelers capped their impressive season by winning the Super Bowl they were an inconsistent bunch all year long in terms of fantasy performance. With pretty much the entire team returning this year will the Steelers offer fantasy owners more week to week options heading into 2009? I examine that now.

As good as the ultimate result was for Roethlisberger and the Steelers last year the QB proved to be a nightmare for owners last year with his inconsistent play. Roethlisberger finished2008 with 3314 passing yards along with 17 TD's and 15 Int's for a rating of 80.2. Not exactly the type of numbers you are looking for out of your number 1 QB. **End Summary** Topics: Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Fantasy Football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.
2009 Cincinnati Bengals Fantasy Football Preview

The 2008 Cincinnati Bengals finished 4-11-1 thus once again living up to their famous ineptitude and giving their fans virtually nothing to cheer about for the majority of the season. Well, what do you expect when you have Ryan Fitzpatrick leading your team? The teams downfall last year can be directly attributed to the elbow injury that sidelined QB Carson Palmer much of the season leaving the reigns to a signal caller who is completely incapable of throwing a downfield pass. Palmer only played in 4 games last year and that clearly impacted the rest of the offense especially the receivers. What do the 2009 Bungles have in store for fantasy owners? Let's dissect that very topic.

It is amazing to me that teams do not invest more in their backup QB's and it is absolutely astonishing that someone like Fitzpatrick (now with the Bills) is in the NFL. I watched a few of their games last year and he literally never attempted a pass more than 10 yards downfield. **End Summary** Topics: Cincinnati Bengals NFL Fantasy Fooball
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.

The 2008 Cleveland Browns were a complete disaster finishing 4-12 and bringing up the rear in the AFC North. The teams meltdown cost Head Coach Romeo Crennell his job and he was subsequently replaced by one half of the Belichick deciphels that NFL Network's Jamie Dukes so eloquently refers to as "Mickey and Mouse" Eric "The Mangenious" Mangini. Mangini looks to take a team that seemed on the verge of playoff contention a couple of years ago to that very level. Let's examine the Browns fantasy potential heading into 2009.

The first thing the Browns must decide is who their starting QB is going to be and at press time this has not been decided. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson are in an open competition although Quinn is said to be in the lead. Quite frankly, I don't understand why the Browns won't give Quinn a chance. This will be his 3rd year and he has hardly played at all. Why spend a first round pick on him if you don't intend to play him?? Quinn is obviously smart and while not having the arm strength of Anderson I believe is the better overall QB. **End Summary** Topics: cleveland Browns NFL Fantasy Football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.
2009 Baltimore Ravens Fantasy Football Preview

Joe Flacco and the 2008 Baltimore Ravens came out of nowhere finishing 11-5 and winning 2 playoff games before finally succumbing 23-14 to the Pittsburg Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. Nobody and I mean nobody could have predicted Flacco's success as he clearly demonstrated that he has the mo-jo and leadership qualities necessary to be a success in the NFL. However, historically the Ravens have not been known to produce many fantasy studs and that was no different last year as with the exception of WR Derek Mason and RB LeRon McClain no Raven invoked fears amongst fantasy owners.

Flacco was a nice surprise in 2008 but that doesn't make him any more attractive in 2009 as a fantasy starter. It is not so much Flacco but the system that he plays in and the receivers that he has at his disposal that makes him fall well short of a number one fantasy option at QB. Furthermore, teams will not be surprised by Flacco much in the same way that they will not be surprised with Atlanta QB Matt Ryan. **End Summary** Topics: Baltimore Ravens NFL Fantasy Football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.
2009 Oakland Raiders Fantasy Football Preview

Ahhhh my Oakland Raiders. I have been a lifelong Raider fan and it just pains me to witness what my beloved team has become. The Raiders finished 5-11 in 2008 leaving the Raider Nation with yet another year of heartache. I have written (and will continue to write) several articles about the Raiders prospects as a team heading into 2009. For the sake of this article however, I will be examining the Raiders solely from a fantasy prospective. With that in mind let's look at the fantasy potential of the Silver and Black for 2009.

It is no secret that I am not sold on JaMarcus Russell as an NFL QB and I am even less fond of him as a fantasy QB. To be blunt, Russell has shown me and fellow Raider Nation members very little in his 3 years in the league. Obviously, he has the cannon arm but it takes much more than that to be a successful NFL QB just ask Jeff George. Furthermore, Russell has not shown much of a work ethic since the Raiders invested pretty much their entire franchise with him 3 years ago. **End Summary** Topics: Oakland Raiders Oakland Raiders fantasy football AFC West
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.
2009 Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy Football Preview

The 2009 Kansas City Chiefs will sport a completely new look from '08 and those changes start at the top. Gone are Carl Peterson and Herman Edwards and in their place come former Patriot Scott Pioli and former Cardinal Offensive Coordinator turned Head Coach Todd Haley respectively. Furthermore, the Chiefs have a new starting QB in former Patriot Matt Cassel and the three newbies will attempt to bring some excitement back to a franchise that has been doormat for years. What impact will Cassel have on the rest of the Chiefs in terms of fantasy? Will Cassel have another successful season or will he be a bust? I examine these questions and more when analysing Kansas City's fantasy potential heading into '09.

Cassel was one of the biggest surprises of the 2008 NFL season stepping in for the injured Tom Brady and throwing for 3693 yards with 21 TD's and just 11 INT's. The numbers are much more impressive when you consider that Cassel had not started a game since High School when he found himself thrust into the limelight. **End Summary** Topics: Kansas City Chiefs NFL fantasy football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.
2009 San Diego Chargers Fantasy Football Preview

2008 represented a up and down year for the San Diego Chargers. The team started horribly then somehow rebounded to finish 8-8 and managed to steal the AFC West from the Denver Broncos by beating them 52-21 on the final week of the regular season. The Bolts then defeated Indianapolis 23-17 in the Wildcard round before finally bowing to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Pittsburg Steelers 35-24 in the Divisional Playoff. The year saw QB Phillip Rivers emerge as one of the NFL's elite and also witnessed the first sign that LaDanian Tomlinson may be on the decline. What kind of options do the 2009 Chargers provide fantasy owners? I now offer my thoughts on the topic.

Rivers really came into his own in 2009 by throwing for 4009 yds and 34 Td's with only 11 Int's. The former NC State product was on point all year long despite the teams early struggles and it was a complete joke that Rivers failed to make the Pro Bowl as he clearly was one of the best QB's all season. Rivers returns this year with pretty much the same offensive unit however it will be hard to duplicate last year's numbers. **End Summary** Topics: San Diego Chargers NFL Fantasy Football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of OaklandRaidersCentral.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL.

The Tennessee Titans came of age in 2008 posting a 13-3 record and claiming the AFC South title knocking the Indianapolis Colts off of their perch. However, the season failed to end the way the Titans hoped as they were defeated 13-10 by the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Playoffs. The end of my fantasy season was far more favorable than the Titans as I claimed my 2nd Super Bowl title in 10 years. One of the big reasons I was celebrating around Christmas time when other owners were crying in their beer is Titans RB Chris Johnson. It all started in August when I saw Johnson break a long TD run during a pre-season game and I was amazed at his speed andI kept that vision in my head when my draft day came rolling around. I managed to steal Johnson in the 14th round of my draft and rode that train along with fellow rookie sensation Matt Forte to a championship and about $1100.00. Will Johnson be able to duplicate his success for 2009? Who are some of the other Titans to keep an eye on for the upcoming season? **End Summary** Topics: Tennessee Titans Fantasy Football NFL AFC South
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of Gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raider/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

When analysing the Raiders selection of Darrius Heywaryd-Bey I choose to be more open minded about the selection than many in the Raider Nation have proved to be. My only beef with the Raiders concerning this pick is the fact that they could have traded down numerous spots to get Heyward-Bey so I greatly question his value at number 7 overall. However, in terms of all of these receivers coming into the NFL from college nobody and I stress NOBODY knows how this will all play out. This is the NFL not the NCAA and all the stats and TD's that Crabtree put up in college doesn't mean crap at this level. Let me repeat. All the stats Crabtree put up at Texas Tech do not mean CRAP at the NFL level. Just look at all the WR busts throughout the years in the NFL who were studs in college. Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Troy Williamson, and Reggie Williams are just a few of the first round busts that come to mind. **End Summary** Topics: Darrius Heyward-Bey Michael Crabtree
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of Gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raider/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.
Raiders Blueprint for Success in 2009

Historically, it is no secret that Al Davis has been noted for his love of the bomb. Tell Cliff Branch to run as fast as he can and let Ken Stabler and Jim Plunkett throw it as far as they can and hope for the best. For years this worked but the 2009 Raiders offense will prove to be far different than from era's gone by. If he is wise, Head Coach and former offensive line coach Tom Cable will lean on a talented trio of running backs and a rebuilt offensive line to pound defenses into the ground with the running attack.

The Raiders boast a 9-23 record over the last 2 years and have a current streak of 6 straight years with 11 plus losses. However, although there has not been a whole lot to cheer about in the Black Hole recently the running game is one source of optimism. The Raiders running game has ranked in the top 10 each of the past 2 years and has real potential to become one of the NFL's elite. The Raiders possess 3 backs all of whom are capable of pounding out 100 yard games. **End Summary** Topics: Oakland Raiders
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of Gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raider/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.
2009 Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy Football Preview

The year 2008 is a year in which the Jacksonville Jaguars would simply like to forget. The team finished with a disappointing 5-11 record after losing in the Divisional Playoffs in 2007 at the hands of the New England Patriots. What went wrong? Maybe a better question is what didn't go wrong? For starters, the offensive line was in complete shambles due to various injuries and the misery climaxed with the shooting of Richard Collier who was left paralyzed from the waist down as a result. The end result was the Jags were left unable to do what they really want to do and that is to pound the rock on the ground with their Mighty Mite Maurice Jones Drew. The offensive line was clearly one of the main reasons that the Jags didn't perform up to expectations. Furthermore, Jacksonville’s WR corps (past and present I might add) was more concerned with blasting lines of Coke than catching TD's and this also contributed to the teams decline. However, in my estimation things are looking much better for Jacksonville heading into '09 with the addition of tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton via the draft last month. **End Summary** Topics: Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy Football NFL AFC South
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

The year 2008 was kind of a down year for the Indianapolis Colts. For the 6th time in his career Peyton Manning was one and done in the playoffs losing 23-17 to the San Diego Chargers in the Wildcard round. Moreover, last year was somewhat of an off year for Manning statistically despite winning his 3rd league MVP award and I witnessed firsthand what it is like to have a QB that is trying to shake the rust off after having off season knee injury. Manning heated up later in the year but unfortunately many owners did not have the supporting cast that I had to hold the fort down and thus missed out on the post season party. In fact my Manning experience of last year has soured me on Tom Brady this year. You just cannot afford to play without a QB for the first 4 or 5 games of the season and that is what I endured last year. Furthermore, Brady's injury is said to be far more serious than Manning's was a year ago. The Colts will once again be good but will they make the playoffs? **End Summary** Topics: Indianapolis Colts Fantasy Football AFC South NFL
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

The Houston Texans represent a virgin regarding the NFL Playoffs since their inception into the league in 2002. Head Coach Gary Kubiak and Texans fans have reason to believe that will change in 2008 and quite frankly I am on the bandwagon as well. The team has developing skill positions and a defense that has been built around DE Mario Williams (remember when everybody ridiculed the Texans for taking Williams over Reggie Bush?????) and now features first round draft pick LB Brian Cushing out of USC. Basically, the Texans are trying to build a foundation whose main purpose is to stop Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts and I believe they are getting closer towards that objective. Furthermore, the Texans have multiple players who possess significant fantasy value including Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton, Kevin Walter, and Owen Daniels. Let's analyze the fantasy prospects for the Texans heading into 2009.

I have never really been sold on Schaub since his departure from Atlanta but I am slowly moving closer in that direction. **End Summary** Topics: Houston Texans NFL Fantasy Football AFC South
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/fantasy football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

If you are like me then you cannot wait for the start of the 2009 NFL season and fantasy season in particular. A lot has transpired this off season and I just thought that I would share some of my thoughts with everyone.

First, I cannot start anywhere other than Jay Cutler. A lot of people disagree with me but I agree with Cutler here. Why would McDipshit oh sorry McDaniels come in and try to first overhaul one of the top ranked offenses in the NFL rather than the Broncos porous defense. McDaniels must truly believe in his heart that Cutler is not a good QB for his system. I have no problem with that but McDaniels is wrong here because he lied to Cutler about it. This would have never gotten to the level it did if McDaniels had not lied and been slim shady about everything. I wouldn't trust McDipshit either. I believe Jamie Dukes from the NFL Network summed it up best when he referred to the Belichek disciples as Mickey and Mouse. Gotta love Jamie Dukes. He is the man. **End Summary** Topics: NFL Fantasy football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL or fantasy football.

Well here we go again. Another season of Oakland Raider football is rapidly approaching. What will the Oakland Raiders be like in 2009? Will it be more of the same or will the Raiders finally make some headway in an AFC West that in my estimation is wide open. First, I will start off by saying that I like Tom Cable as a coach and I believe that the Raiders made a smart move by keeping him aboard. I think that the Raiders have shown more promise under Coach Cable than any coach since Gruden. When one looks at the realistic candidates for the Oakland job one realizes that keeping Cable in an effort to bring some stability to a franchise that has lacked it for years makes sense. Cable is a former OL coach and with McFadden, Fargas, and Bush this team is built to be a power running team and I think that Cable will really work on establishing the run this year.

Unlike past off seasons where the Raiders have tried to land some big name free agents this year's free agency period has proved to be relatively uneventful for the Silver and Black. **End Summary** Topics: Oakland Raiders
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL or fantasy football. The site is still not completed as we are still trying to ensure consistency on all of the browsers including Firefox, Safari, and of course Internet Explorer. However, I couldn't wait any longer to start posting and blogging about the 2 things that I am most passionate about: fantasy football andthe Oakland Raiders. So without further a due here we go.

The year 2008 saw yours truly capture his 2nd league championship in 10 years using a 12 team head to head format. My starters were as follows: Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson, Larry Johnson, Matt Forte, Calvin Johnson, Jericho Cotchery, Jason Witten, John Casey, and the Eagles defense. In my estimation there are many fantasy owners in denial regarding certain changes that have come full circle the last few years. Being a lifelong Raider fan I know full well what happens when you have individuals who are incapable of adjusting to change. I am obviously referring to Al Davis here. Mr. **End Summary** Topics: fantasy football drafting running backs
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fantatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL or fantasy football.
Analysing the Fantasy Football Impact from the 2009 Draft

2008 represented a tremendous year for rookies in terms of fantasy football. I know because I rode 2 of them (Chris Johnson and Matt Forte) to a league championship. What will the draft class of 2009 have in store for fantasy owners come this fall? Personally, I don't believe that this years class is talented as last years but time will tell. The following represent my preliminary takes regarding the 2009 draft class:
--Matthew Stafford QB (DET)

What kind of pro QB will Stafford be? Will he be like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco or will his fate be more similar to Tim Couch or Joey Harrington? Fantasy owners likely won’t have a chance to find out next season. Although Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he will keep an open mind in the battle for the top spot on the depth chart, more than likely Daunte Culpepper will be the starting QB for Detroit when they open the season against the Saints in the Superdome September, 13th. That scenario doesn't allow Stafford much of a chance to make an impact in fantasy circles. **End Summary** Topics: nfl draft fantasy football
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

Hello to everyone from gothicfootball.com on this Easter Sunday. This is the first installment in my series that will offer readers fantasy previews for all 32 NFL teams in the coming weeks. The first division I will cover is the AFC East and I will start with the Buffalo Bills.

As I mentioned I am originally from Western, NY so I am very familiar with the Bills. Lets face facts people the Bills have been non existent since Jim Kelly and crew left town 10 plus years ago. In terms of the fantasy impact that Bills players will make this season lets do some dissecting. First, lets start with the receivers. Obviously the main move the Bills made this off season was the acquisition of T.O. when he was released from the Cowboys. Although I was shocked at first that the Bills went after him the more I thought about it the more it made sense. As I mentioned before in a previous post the Bills are desperate for anyone who can bring some excitement to town and the fact that T. **End Summary** Topics: Buffalo Bills Fantasy football NFL
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

The Miami Dolphins came out of nowhere in 2009 to win the AFC East before succumbing to the Baltimore Ravens in the first roundof the playoffs. The two main factors for the dramatic turnaroundnd rest with the acquisition of QB Chad Pennington who was released by the NY Jets after the team signed Brett Favre and the rise of the Wildcat formation that proved to catch several team (ie New England) off guard. In terms of fantasy though the Dolphins really don't have much in the way of players who fantasy owners would feel comfortable starting week in and week out. Let's dissect Miami in terms of fantasy potential heading into 2009.

After building a foundation along the offensive anddefensive lines in last year’s draft, the Dolphins added to the framework with more skill position players on the second day of the 2009 NFL Draft. That was a good move because the Dolphins have very few play makers on the offensive side of the ball. Chad Pennington is back for another year but Chad Henne appears to be the future QB for the team. **End Summary** Topics: Miami Dolphins fantasy football NFL
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

The Brett Favre era is over in NY. Yesterday, the Jets released the veteran QB leaving Favre a free agent if he decides to make yet another comeback. The Jets were a major player in last weekends draft by moving up to the 5th spot via the Cleveland Browns and former coach Eric Mangini in order to select their QB of the future Mark Sanchez. With the selection of Sanchez, the Jets now have taken six quarterbacks in the first round in their 50-year history. Joe Namath was taken higher than anyone, drafted No. 1 overall back in 1965 and delivering the Jets their only championship four seasons later. In terms of the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets the future is more than likely now seeing as though the incumbent QB's are Kellen Clemens and Eric Ainge. Brett Ratcliff was part of the deal that made Sanchez a Jet. So, who will be the Jets' starting QB when they open their season at Reliant Stadium against the Houston Texans on September, 13? Moreover, does any Jet QB have any sort of fantasy potential for the 2009 ? In my estimation the answers to those questions are Mark Sanchez and no. **End Summary** Topics: NY Jets fantasy football NFL
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.

2008 witnessed the worst possible nightmare for both fantasy owners and New England Patriots fans alike as QB Tom Brady went down with a torn ACL during the second series of the Patriots opener last year against the Kansas City Chiefs leaving everyone devastated and wondering what course of action to take next. I easily could have been one those owners because I would have selected Brady myself. I had the 5th pick in my draft and it was going to be either Brady or Peyton Manning with that pick (see my previous article "Draft RB's Early: Buyer Beware to see why I go with QB's first) and the owner with the 2nd pick selected Brady leaving me with Manning at number 5. After Brady went down Matt Cassel filled in admirably after not having started a game since high school by leading the Patriots to an 11-5 record despite missing the playoffs. Moreover, Cassel helped countless fantasy owners sustain deep playoff runs on the basis of his back to back 400 yard passing performances during the stretch run. **End Summary** Topics: New England Patriots fantasy football NFL
About the Author:
Chris Limburg is the fanatical purveyor of gothicfootball.com: A Oakland Raiders/Fantasy Football blog that provides commentary on everything that is the NFL and fantasy football.
