The very controversial switchblade knife has been around a very long time. This blade is the size and shape of most of you average pocket knives but with a twist. With the push of a button a spring pops the blade out and is ready to be used. There are two sorts of switchblades one opens though the top, and one from the side.

The blade that opens from the side is much like other pocket knives. You push the button and the blade swings out the side like any other knife. The out-the-front or the OTF switchblade, pops out the front as the name suggest. Single action, and double action are the two types of OTF blades. The single action is when you push the button and the blade pops out and then you have to manually push the blade back in. The double action is the same this the different of that to put the blade back in you just push the button again. These knives have been at the center of controversy for years, because of the popularity with criminals. because of the quick opening systems of these knives people that might brake the law like them. **End Summary** Topics: pocket knives hunting knives switch blade knives
About the Author:
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store called pocketknivesdepot.com I started this for two reasons I wanted to offer great quality knives at low prices. Now the actual design of the bowie knife is very sound design the curved top part of the edge is for skinning a carcass. While the strait part of the edge is for straight cutting. It is said that the bowie knife is long enough to use as a sword, sharp enough to use as a razor, and heavy enough to use as a hatchet.
survival knives the most important item in a survival kit

Survival knives are some of my favorite knives. These knives are used not surprisingly as tools for survival. People that might carry one of these knives are hunters, hikers, or any outdoor sports fan, Pilots in case of crashing, or if in the military being shop down behind enemy lines. Or for that matter any reason being behind enemy lines. Basically any one that might find them self?s lost in the woods. Survival knives are normally on the thicker heavier side for the reason that if you are lost in the woods, you would have to use them for hunting. Many people make them apart of a survival kit, people sometimes get a smaller lighter knife to save room for other things that might come in useful. But a survival knife is probable the most important thing that you could put in a survival kit. Other important things would be first aid and things to keep warm, food and water.

What we think of as a survival knife did not get in the picture until the turn of the century. Before then men would use knives that looked more like a butcher knives. **End Summary** Topics: pocket knives hunting knives survival knives
About the Author:
Hi I am James Huff and I started a online store called pocketknivesdepot.com I started this for two reasons I wanted to offer great quality knives at low prices.
The bayonet I has been around senses the 16th century

The modern bayonet most of the time is a knife shaped weapon and can be found on, or a attachment to put a bayonet on. One of the guns that you will almost always see a bayonet on is the SKS. You can find knife, cruciform, or triangular shaped blades. With modern war the bayonet has sort of out lived its usefulness. You have almost no chance of being killed with a Bayonet.

The name bayonet I has been around senses the 16th century. There is no evidences that what it is used for today is that it was used for back then. It could have just been the name of a knife. There really is no hard evidence for what it was used. I think that most of us could guess it was used for military purposes. The legend is that in 17th century France there was a conflict in a southern French town called Bayonne. The people of this town after running out of ammunition stuck there knives down the muzzle of there muskets and that this was the beginning of the bayonet. Others think that the Bayonet was made for hunters. **End Summary** Topics: pocket knives hunting knives bayonet knives
About the Author:
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store.
Knives have been around for a very long time

Knives made to day are much more complex then the stone or even bronze knives of the past. With a wide variety of medals to make knives out of. Depending on the metal your knife will have very different strong points and weak points. If your knife is made out of carbon steel it will be able to get very sharp, and hold its edge for a long time. When it is no longer sharp it is very easily sharpened. On the down side carbon steel will rust and stain easily. Now stainless steel will not rust and stain as easily but will never be as sharp as the carbon steel.

Knives start to look more like what we know as knives about five thousand years ago. This is when man started to understand how to work with metal. At this point knives where made out of copper, then bronze, iron, and now steel. There are many alloys, such as carbon fiber, and titanium that are used today that make knives the sharpest and strongest they have ever been. **End Summary** Topics: knives pocket knives hunting knives
About the Author:
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store I started this for two reasons I wanted to offer great quality knives at low prices.
There are now a number of knives makers in the U.S that make balisongs or butterfly knives. One of them is Benchmade. Another well known knife make is Emerson. Emersons very first knives where balisongs that he made while studding Filipino martial arts in California.

All those now no one is really sure where the name balisong comes form that are a few thoughts as to what it is referring to. In the Tagalog language balisong or Baling sungay means broken horn, and because the first knives where made of animal horns many think that is where the name comes from. Others think that they are called balisong for the reason the they are thought to first be invented in a town called balisong. These pocket knives origins are from the Philippines and though discouraged now for hundreds of years where once used to fight in duels.

when the Spanish came to the Philippines, they brought these knives back to the western cicilization, and they became very popular. the balisong knives has been a long time tool inthe filipino fighting arts. **End Summary** Topics: butterfly knife pocket knives hunting knives
About the Author:
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store called pocketknivesdepot.com I started this for two reasons I wanted to offer great quality knives at low prices.
Other pocket knives have what is called a locking system of some sort. All those Locking knives have been around since the 15 century they started being made on a much lager scale. By knife makers such as Buck knives, Case, Gerber, and Opinel. Most of these knives where made with a lock back system. The maker that rose to the top of this pile is Buck knives.

Pocket knives are older than you think. They have found these knives dating as far back as 600-500BC. All though it is very rear to find one. In thoughts days people used fixed blades. Pocket knives really stated to take off in recent years. For the reason that in many place it is against the law to carry a fixed blade knife with you. Because of this Pocket knives really started to make there way into our lives.

A lot of pocket knives have what is called a slip joint. These knives do not lock, and if there is enough pressed placed on the back side of the knife it will close. I think that most of use out there have cut them selves with one of these knives before. **End Summary** Topics: pocket knives hunting knives buck knives
About the Author:
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store.
Other things that you might want to include are toothpaste and tooth Brush. Along with other hygiene related objects. Deodorant dental floss, shaving cream, Razors, and mouth wash. You might even want to throw things like toilet paper in there as well. A well stocked first aid kit is a absolute must, rubbing alcohol, and a small tools box.

There are many things that go into a well built survival kit. Some of the obvious things are none perishable foods, bottled water. For the reason of you will want to be able to eat and drink if things get to the point that food is hard to come by. try to get three months of food and water to store with the kit. It is better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it.
