An Introduction to Internet Trojan’s

Trojan’s are computer programs that can be maliciously used to get into someone’s computer. This article offers internet advice on spotting, preventing and getting rid of Trojan’s.

What is a Trojan?

A Trojan is an unwanted programme that can be unwittingly installed onto a computer. It is usually a malicious programme that criminals use to gain control of and access to someone else’s computer. These criminals may offer someone some software of use, but when they download the software they also download a Trojan, causing them many problems. Once installed the Trojan’s inventor may be able to take control of the computer or see everything that is being done on the computer by the owner.

Once someone can view what someone else is doing on their computer they can cause havoc. They will be able to see everything on the computer including secure data such as passwords and bank account details. They can then use this for their own malicious intentions. They will also be able to see any passwords that the computer’s owner enters onto their computer. So any secure websites they access, the Trojan’s inventor will also be able to access them. **End Summary** Topics: <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/Trojan"s" rel="tag">Trojan"s internet computer software
About the Author:
For more <a href = "http://www.knowthenet.org.uk/">Internet Advice</a> visit Know the Net, a not-for-profit website from Nominet.

Internet Safety – Keeping You Children Safe

Internet safety for children is an important subject and something many parents are concerned about. The internet does have many good points, but there are dangers, and parents and children should be particularly cautious.

So, what can you do to protect your children when they are online?

Use A Child Safe Browser

These are browsers that block websites with content that is not appropriate for children to view. Although you can never be completely sure it will block everything, it will at least go some way to protect children from content that is not child friendly.

Observe Children When They Are Using The Internet

It may not always be possible, but where it is, you should observe what your children are looking at, or at least be in the same room as them.

Limit Internet Usage

There are many reasons to limit the time your children spend on the internet. Spending too much time on the computer is not healthy, and the less time they spend online the less chance of them coming across something they shouldn’t.

Stay In Touch

Parents should keep abreast of the latest online threats, so they know the dangers their children could face. **End Summary** Topics: Internet safety for children online safety security
About the Author:
For more information about <a href = "http://knowthenet.org.uk/knowledge-centre/personal/child-safety#tabs-300">Internet Safety For Children</a> visit Know The Net, which has an informative guide.

Types of VoIP Services

VoIP’s popularity is ever increasing. There are many different ways that VoIP can be utilised and some of these are outlined here.

CALLING BETWEEN TWO COMPUTERS

Calling from computer to computer is the original VoIP. It is the most basic type of VoIP whereby two people simple talk to each other through their computers. The caller and receiver make contact through a piece of software that they are both logged into. The main advantage is that these services are sometimes free, with Skype being the best known free VoIP provider. Each user will use a headset, or their computers’ speakers and microphone, to communicate. This type of VoIP has the reputation for not being of the best quality but it has improved over the last few years.

CALLING A PHONE FROM A COMPUTER

As well as using a computer to call another computer it is also possible to call a phone with a computer. You can call any number in the world in this way, including mobile numbers. It is easier than calling another computer as that requires both the caller and the receiver to be logged on and to be at their computers. **End Summary** Topics: VoIP provider phones communication Interoute
About the Author:
Interoute are a pan-European <a href = "http://www.interoute.com/enterprise/voice/interoute-one">VoIP Provider</a> offering a variety of <a href = "http://www.interoute.com/enterprise/voice/interoute-one">VoIP</a> services.

VoIP Bans

Several countries have either banned VoIP or talked about banning VoIP over the last few years. VoIP is cheaper than other forms of telephony and some counties are looking at this as a negative for a variety of reasons. VoIP Providers can often be based anywhere in the world, so as opposed to telephone providers, the profits may leave the country. There are several reasons why VoIP has been banned in certain territories.

Part of the reason is competition. Some claim it is unfair on local telecommunications companies as VoIP providers can offer a cheaper service. This brings up the debate of a free market. Should it be completely free and open to everyone or should steps be made to support local business? If local business cannot complete should they just be allowed to go out of business? The increasing popularity of VoIP will obviously be bad for traditional telecommunications companies. Some have accused countries, such as Russia, of hiding behind the reason of unfair competition, with security being the actual reason.

Many telecommunications networks around the world are state controlled. Therefore VoIP can literally threaten governments’ income. This is obviously an incentive for countries to stop VoIP usage. **End Summary** Topics: VoIP telecoms telecommunications telephony telephones
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interouteone.com/">Business VoIP</a>

Affects of the Conservatives Child Trust Fund policy

The worth of the Child Trust Fund is a subject that has been much debated since its inception in 2002. The Conservative Party have now said that they will reduce the Child Trust Fund so only children from the poorest families will receive it should they win the 2010 general election. The have not yet specified by which specifications it will be decided who will receive it, and who will not.

Most people would agree that the poorer areas of society should receive more help from the state than those who don’t need it, and this is something that the Conservatives have taken on board with their Child Trust Fund policy. Poorer children can have a disadvantage when they are young adults, as wealthier parents are more able to help their children with University or getting on the housing ladder. Less wealthy parents are unable to help in this way even if they would like to. Some though, have argued that this benefit should not be limited in this way. Is this something that all children should be entitled to and not based on a child’s background? **End Summary** Topics: Child trust fund best child trust fund child savings
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.jumpsavings.com/">Child Trust Fund</a>

Driving Offense Punishments

There are a number of crimes related to driving in the UK, with some more serious than others. Different punishments apply depending on the offense as well as its nature and whether it is a minor infraction of the law or a more serious one.

DRINK DRIVING

Drink driving is an issue that has got more and more coverage in the media, and is being cracked down more than ever. The legal drink driving limit in the UK is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Being caught drink driving, or driving under the influence of drug (including some prescription drugs) could lead to up to six month imprisonment and a fine of anything up to £5,000. In most cases this will include a driving ban of between one and three years. Refusing to co-operate if stopped by police is also an offence and can carry the same punishment. By law, anyone who is asked by police must agree to a breath test, and failure to do so is illegal.

If a death has been caused by someone driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, then the potential punishment is more severe. **End Summary** Topics: Driving law crime criminal law car drink driving
About the Author:
<a href = "http://www.steelandshamash.co.uk/our_services/-/page/criminal_law/">Criminal Law Solicitors</a>

In recent weeks a legal dispute between Skype’s former owner and current owners has hit the headlines. Former owners Joltid Ltd have accused the current owners, eBay, of infringing copyright rules with regards to the technology used to run the VoIP service. Joltid have revoked the licence for the software and eBay, who deny they have done anything wrong, are taking the company to court, with the case due to begin in June 2010.

eBay bought Skype in 2005 for around $2.6 billion, which has since gone up to $3.1 billion due to Skype’s impressive performance, as set out in the original contract. Since this deal Skype’s success has continued on an upward curve. In 2008 Skype’s pay-for service, Skype Out, was responsible for almost eight and a half billion calls worldwide. eBay have been looking to sell the company since the beginning of 2009 for an estimated $4 billion. In the deal with Joltid, eBay didn’t buy the technology used to run the software but leased it. eBay have revealed how the technology works in some other legal cases and according to Joltid this breaks the rules of their agreement. **End Summary** Topics: Voip business VoIP Skype eBay technology
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interouteone.com/">Business VoIP</a>

Portable Appliance Testing Procedure

Portable Appliance Testing (or PAT Testing) is a legally required method of testing portable appliances. There are many stages that go towards the testing process. It will end with either a pass or fail result.

Portable Appliance Testing needs to look at certain safety elements. Amongst the things that can cause the failure is damage to cables, plugs and wires, overheating and signs of water damage. There should be no bare wires and no sign of internal damage.

The testing needs to be done according to the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) guidelines. Before testing takes place anyone who is not part of the testing team should leave the premises.

The most basic part of the testing process is the visual inspection. Over 90% of problems are said to be found during this part of the process. It consists of the tester looking at the appliance and seeing if there are any obvious issues. Here the tester will be able to see any poor wiring, cracked casing, bent pins and other damage. These are the most basic areas where appliances fail the PAT test.

The location that a particular appliance is used needs to be inspected. **End Summary** Topics: Portable appliance testing pat testing pat test
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.londonpattesting.co.uk/">Portable Appliance Testing</a>

Reasons for Divorce

There are many reasons why people get divorced. This article explores some of the most common reasons that result in the end of a marriage.

ADULTERY
It will come as no surprise that adultery is an extremely common reason for divorce. However, research shows that many people are wiling to forgive someone for cheating once. If the behaviour is common though, that often spells the end of a marriage. Adultery results in a lack of trust within a relationship.

DESERTION
There are times when one half of a married couple will up stick and walk away, possible with the other person unaware that the marriage was on the rocks in the first place.

ADDICTION
If someone is addicted to alcohol or drugs then it will inevitably have a major affect on his/her marriage. Addiction takes control of someone and means they are unlikely to function normally, resulting in them being difficult to live with and a whole host of other issues.

ABUSE
Abusive relationships are a lot more common that most people think. Most of the time they involve a man abusing his wife, but there are also many cases where it is the other way around. **End Summary** Topics: Divorce family law marriage relationships
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.flip.co.uk/">Divorce Solicitors London</a>

Family Law: The differences between married and cohabiting couples

Cohabiting couples are unmarried couples who live together. There are now more cohabiting couples than ever, with over two million in the UK. The family environment in many of these cases is very similar to married couples, but the legal rules applying to them are very different. There are many differences in Family Law between married and unmarried couples who live together.

Contradictory to common belief there is no such thing as a common law husband or wife. Many believe that after a couple have lived together for a certain period they are for all intents and purposes a married couple, but this is not the case. They do not benefit from any matrimonial legislation; in fact the same rules apply as anyone else who live together, such as two friends living as flat mates. Whereas a married couple are treated by the law as a family, cohabiting couples are not. This means that if there is a break up of the relationship one can’t claim maintenance from the other. **End Summary** Topics: Family law cohabiting couples divorce and separation legal separation
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.steelandshamash.co.uk/">Family Law London</a>

Shutter Myths King Louis XIV and Lady Godiva

There have been some interesting myths surrounding window shutters over the years. Some of these involve the French monarch King Louis XIV, who was the French King in the late 1600’s and early 1700’s. The first suggests the invention of shutters. Back in his time, the King’s headquarters was the Louvre in Paris. King Louis XIV decided that a change was needed and moved to nearby Versailles. It is rumoured, although not widely accepted as likely, that upon this move, shutters were designed for him by Philipe Louvrier.

This brings up another two myths about Shutters, both with regard to where the name Louvered Shutter came from. Where shutters came from is obvious, as they open and ‘shut’. There is more debate, though, around the term louvered. One possibility is that the term was already used in other areas. The are two suggesting it came about in connection with Shutters though, both of which involved Philipe Louvrier and King Louis XIV. One suggestion is that they are named after the (alleged) inventor Louvrier. The other is that they were name after the King’s previous residence, the Louvre.

There is another, more likely story surrounding shutters and King Louis XIV. **End Summary** Topics: Shutter plantation shutters louvered shutters window shut
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.plantation-shutters.co.uk/">Shutters</a>

The Child Trust Fund is a scheme introduced by the British Government in 2002, to help parents save for their children. Under the scheme parents are given £250 when their child is born, to invest on their behalf. They are then given an extra £250 when the child turns seven. Friends and family are allowed to add to this up to the sum of £1200 each year. The child gets the invested money plus the interest accumulated when (s)he turns eighteen.

There has been much talk of the lack of parents taking advantage of this scheme. It has been reported that over 50,000 families haven’t invested their CTF voucher, meaning that the government invests it on their behalf. This appears to show a lack of interest in the scheme, but this is not completely accurate.

Many parents who have decided to take up the scheme are using it to good affect on behalf of their children. A survey by TISA has looked at 1.77 million child trust fund’s, and according to their findings 23.3% of parents have a direct debit that they are using to pay a monthly amount towards the fund. **End Summary** Topics: Child trust fund savings ctf voucher investing
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.jumpsavings.co.uk/">Child Trust Fund</a>

Russia set to ban VoIP

Russia could be about to introduce legislation that limits or even bans the use of VoIP technology. Members of the government along with Russia’s prime business lobby, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, are looking to introduce the measure to prevent Russian telecommunications companies from going out of businesses. They are concerned that local landline and mobile companies such as TransTeleComs and MegaFon will struggle to compete with foreign VoIP competitors. VoIP offers big savings, and is becoming increasing popular, with 40% of all calls expected to be via VoIP by 2012.

This isn’t the first talk of measures being brought in to slow down the inevitable increase in VoIP. In Germany, Deutsch Telekom tried to prevent the use of Skype over the T-Mobile network’s platform. They were, however, unsuccessful in this attempt.

Although helping local telecommunications companies seems to be Russia’s main issue with VoIP, there are also thought to be concern regarding security. The government are apparently worried that VoIP can’t be wiretapped like landline telephone’s and have expressed concern that it could be a risk to national security. **End Summary** Topics: Voip Russia telecoms telecommunications
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interouteone.com/">Business VoIP</a>

Advantages and Disadvantages of VoIP

VoIP is becoming more and more popular as an alternative to regular telephones. There are numerous advantages and disadvantages, some of which are outlined here.

ADVANTAGES

CHEAP CALLS
With VoIP calls are much cheaper than with regular telephones. The technology is cheaper for the provider, and these savings are passed on to the customer. This is especially the case with long distance calls, where huge savings can be made.

UNLIMITED CALLS FOR THE SAME PRICE
With almost all providers, there are packages available that include unlimited calls for a flat monthly fee. This also means that you know exactly how much you will be spending, making it easier to budget. This is particularly useful for businesses who make a lot of calls, or those who regularly make calls long distance.

GOOD ONLINE SUPPORT
There tends to be good online support with VoIP. This means it is quick to troubleshoot any problems. There are usually tutorials online that will help you if you have problems connecting.

PORTABLE
VoIP is much more portable than a landline. With a landline you have to be in the exact location of your home or business. **End Summary** Topics: Business VoIP telecommunication VoIP provider
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interoute.com/product_groups/voice/one">Business VoIP</a>

Why choose Colocation?

Colocation is a type of web hosting, where you store you server at a Data (or Colocation) Centre. The server is owned by the customer but they then hire rack space where they store the server.

In terms of price Colocation is cheaper than hosting your own server, but more expensive than basic hosting. Therefore whether it should be considered a cheap option or not should come down to the specifications you require. If you want control of your server, and have the skills necessary to perform tasks on the server, then Colocation is a cheaper option than fully hosting the server yourself. The control you can have over your server is one of the main factors why many go for Colocation. You can customise the server exactly how you want and upgrade it as you please. This gives you a high amount of flexibility, as anything you want to do, you can.

The condition where the server will be stored is favourable to hosting. The area where it is stored is specifically designed for the purpose. **End Summary** Topics: Colocation web hosting colocation hosting Interoute
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interoute.com/product_groups/colocation">Colocation</a>

Portable Appliance Testers

Portable Appliance Testing is the testing of electrical equipment used to make sure it is safe for use. It is often referred to as PAT Testing. PAT Testing is a legal requirement for any qualifying appliances that are used in public areas, including places of work. Portable appliance testing can either be performed by experts, and many companies offer expert testers, or it can be done by business in-house. You do not have to be qualified to perform your testing, although some training is recommended.

Portable Appliance Testers are the instruments that are used to test portable appliances. There are a number of different types of testers available from the most basic ones that don’t require expertise to more advanced alternatives.

Pass/Fail tester are the most basic portable appliance testers on the market. The result they produce is simply either pass or fail, and they are the cheapest option. They do not give any other information other than this simple result. They are mainly aimed at those without expertise in PAT testing; mainly business performing their own in-house testing. You don’t have to be highly skilled to use a Pass/Fail tester. **End Summary** Topics: Portable appliance testing PAT testing PAT testing
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.londonpattesting.co.uk/">Portable Appliance Testing</a>

The relationship between a recession and crime

The UK, and much of the world is currently in recession. Crime is generally considered to rise during tough financial times, but in which ways and why?

As we know, unemployment increases dramatically during a recession. Businesses struggling or going under cause a spate of redundancies, meaning a large increase in unemployment. This inevitably leads to more cases of depression, which can lead to higher crime. The most obvious cases are drugs and alcohol. People suffering from depression often turn to drugs and alcohol for refuge. Increase in drug taking (a crime itself) leads to more drug related crime. Drug dealing will become more rife if demand is higher, and crime’s such as theft may be committed to feed drug habits. It is also more likely that people will commit crimes, such as those involving violence, if they are intoxicated by drugs or alcohol.

A recession leads to more debt. If people spiral into debt they are liable to become more desperate. This particularly increases crimes such as theft. People are more likely to steal so they can pay off their debts. **End Summary** Topics: Criminal solicitors London criminal law lawyers
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.steelandshamash.co.uk/our_services/-/page/criminal_law/">Criminal Solicitors London</a>

Safe Investments Savings Accounts and Bonds

In financial terms, times are currently tough for many. During the current recession many have lost their jobs and are struggling. This has led to less people investing, for fear of loosing even more. And with the fluctuating stock markets it may not be considered the best time for high risk investments. So the question is, what safe investment opportunities are there?

The most obvious safe investment is to open a Savings Account at a bank. As many are currently unwilling to invest” as such, this is a way of keeping your money safe while earning a little interest. It may only be a little but it is better than not earning anything at all. The big advantage of a savings account is that your money is safe. In the current financial situation, you may be asking, what if my bank goes under? Will I then loose all my money? The answer to that is no, unless you have over £35,000 in the account. Up to that amount is guaranteed by the government, so it will not be lost. A Savings Account will not make you a lot. **End Summary** Topics: <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/Safe+Investments+"'"+Savings+Accounts+and+Bonds" rel="tag">Safe Investments "'" Savings Accounts and Bonds
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.witanwealthbuilder.com/">Investment Trusts</a>

Bing The new search engine from Microsoft

Bing is the new search engine from Microsoft, who is aiming to rival Google as the recognised search engine. Bing believes there is plenty of improvement that can be made in search. At the moment only around 25% of searches are successful, so there is room for improvement there. If Bing can return more accurate search results then they could have an advantage of Google, Yahoo, and others.

Bing has some nice features that differentiate it from the other search engines. Once a term is searched for it offers refined search terms down the left hand side of the page. For example if someone search for Times, the results that appear at the top of the page are World Time Server, a Wikipedia page about time, and Time Magazine’s site. In addition on the left hand side of the page are a list of options, including Train Times, Radio Times, Time Online (the Times newspaper site), and World Time. This allows the visitor to refine their search so it is more specific to what they are looking for. Once they refine their search they have further options within this new search. **End Summary** Topics: Seo ppc search engine optimisation bing
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.m-w.co.uk/">SEO London</a>

Savile Row is a street in the Mayfair area of London famous for its tradition for men’s bespoke suites. Many believe that the term bespoke came from the tailors based in Savile Row. It apparently came from suits that were said to be spoken” for by a customer. In other words the suit is being made specifically for that customer. Many well known men are known to have had a bespoke suit designed by a Savile Row tailors, including Winston Churchill, Muhammad Ali, and Nelson and Napoleon. As well as being known for its tailors, Savile Row is also famous due to The Beatles. Their own record label, Apple, has their Headquarters in Savile Row, and the roof of that building is where the Fab Four played together for the final time in 1969.

Savile Row was created in 1695 as part of the development of the Burlington Estate, which was owned by the Earl of Burlington. Prior to this it had been the gardens of Burlington House. Originally the street was called Savile Street, and was named after the Earl’s wife, Dorothy Savile. **End Summary** Topics: Saville row savile row tailors bespoke suite
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.anderson-sheppard.co.uk/">Saville Row</a>

10 Extraordinary Divorce Settlements

There have been a number of high divorce settlements over the last couple of decades. Here are the details of 10 headline grabbing examples.

PAUL MCCARTNEY & HEATHER MILLS

One of the most high profile divorces in recent times was that of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Mills had demanded £125 million, but in the end was awarded a little less than a fifth of that at £24.3 million after their four year marriage. After the case was finished, the singers’ former wife launched a lengthy rant outside the courtroom about the British judicial system.

PHIL COLLINS & ORIANNE CEVEY

In August 2007 another singer, Phil Collins has also been ordered to pay £24.3 million, to his ex-wife Orianne Cevey after 6 years of marriage. This isn’t the first time the former Genesis singer and drummer has had to pay out a large divorce settlement. He has been married and divorced three times, and has had to pay a total of £40 million, almost a third of his total career earnings.

SPEPHEN SPIELBERG & AMY IRVING

Stephen Spielberg and his wife Amy Irving had a pre-nuptial agreement before their marriage in 1985. **End Summary** Topics: Divorce lawyer London divorce solicitor London family law solicitors
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.divorce-london.co.uk">Divorce Lawyer London</a>

The History of Shutters

The origins of shutters are thought to have come from ancient Greece. They were originally made from marble and were designed to control light, ventilation and offer protection. They were invented to protect the interior of homes in times of extreme heat, but could also be used to protect from the cold in winter and from thunderstorms. They could be closed or bolted shut, especially in the evenings. This was before glass had been invented and shutters were considered durable, long lasting and easy to maintain.

Over time shutters became more popular wider afield in the Mediterranean and within the rest of Europe. A significant development in the future of shutters was the use of wood. To begin with wooden shutters were simply solid wooden boards that could be open and shut. Eventually shutters with slats came into fruition, meaning they could be adjusted to let in the right amount of heat, light or ventilation. This would not have been possible with a material like marble, but with the lighter wooden alternative this soon became the norm. In England, the Georgians were the first to design homes that already had shutters installed when new. **End Summary** Topics: Shutters plantation shutters wooden louvered shutters ven
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.plantation-shutters.co.uk/">Shutters</a>

If you are designing a website there are many things to consider. It is important that it is well designed, easy to use, and gives the visitors what they want.

The main thing that needs to be taken into consideration when designing a web site is the purpose of the site. You need to decide what the site is for and then design it accordingly. You need to work out what the visitor will want from the site, and what you want your visitors to do. It is always a good idea to put yourself in the visitor’s shoes. There is no point designing a flashy website that you think looks great if it is of no use to your visitors. Remember the site is for the visitor, not the designer. You need to work out who is going to use the site. Do your research on who the audience are and what they will be looking for.

The look of your website is important. It needs to be eye catching without being over complicated. If it is too bland the visitor’s are likely to leave immediately. You need a hook that makes them want to stay and investigate further. **End Summary** Topics: Web design London web development seo graphic design
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.m-w.co.uk/">Web Design London</a>

How VoIP Works

VoIP is a method by which calls can be made via a digital signal instead of a telephone line. The term VoIP stands for voice over internet protocol, and is basically the term used to describe the journey of voice signals via an IP address.

VoIP uses a high speed internet connection instead of the transmission of voice signals via a regular telephone line. When you talk through a VoIP device the signal travels digitally via your internet connection to the person at the other end. Depending on the device used the signal may have to transfer from a phone signal into a digital signal, and then back into a phone signal at the other end.

The original, and still most common method of individuals using VoIP, is communication through a computer. Two people can communicate by talking through microphones connected to their computers, with the voice of the other person coming through the speakers. This is the cheapest method of VoIP communication as the signal can travel entirely digitally via the internet. Skype is the best known and most popular provider, and with them calls from one computer to another are free, wherever you are calling worldwide. **End Summary** Topics: VoIP business VoIP Ethernet IP telephony Interoute
About the Author:
<a href= "http://www.interoute.com/product_groups/voice/one">Interoute VoIP</a>
