Scottish Weddings - How To Hire A Wedding Band

When you are planning a Scottish wedding it is normal to have a band at your wedding night. However, before you rush out and hire the first band that you see, you should consider what type of band would be most suitable for your wedding.

This is important, as the band you book will have a huge impact on your wedding and guests.

In Scotland, there are essentially four main types of bands you can choose for your wedding: Pop Covers, Ceilidh, Jazz, and Tribute Bands. Each band has it own advantages and disadvantages. So, let us take a look at each type in more detail.

Pop Bands
These are the normal types of wedding bands in Scotland and they play songs recorded and made famous by other artists. Most cover bands, who specialise in weddings, will play a wide range of hits from the 1960's right up to current chart hits. As weddings comprise of a fairly broad range of people and ages, the cover band's plan is to play a wide range of music that will keep everyone happy. **End Summary** Topics: scottish wedding band hiring tips bands weddings scotland
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Weddings - A Guide To The Different Styles Of Wedding Photographs

Your Scottish wedding is going to be one of the most wonderful days of your life and you will want the best Scottish wedding photographer you can find to capture the day for posterity. However, before you book a wedding photographer, you should decide on what style of wedding photographs you would like from him.

When most people think of wedding photographs, they tend to think of the traditional type of photography where the bride and groom pose for a series planned shots with different members of their family and friends. However, this is only one of the styles you can choose for your wedding photographs and many photographers will specialise in either one or many of these styles.

So, before you even start thinking about actually booking a wedding photographer, you should try and work out what type of photographic style you would like for your wedding. Having decided that, you will be able to make a more informed decision about which photographer will turn your dreams into a reality.

Traditional or Formal

These are the classic wedding photographs and provide a good record of everyone who is at the wedding. **End Summary** Topics: scottish wedding photography photographs styles weddings
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Weddings - How To Hire The Best Wedding Photographer

If you are having a Scottish wedding, then the wedding photographs will be a lasting memory of your wedding day. Therefore hiring the right Scottish wedding photographer is essential. While selecting a photographer who lives locally might be the most convenient option, he might not be the best person for your wedding. So, you should always shop around. Unless you already happen to know a talented, professional photographer, then you will have to rely on wedding magazines, the Yellow Pages, the Internet, or word of mouth.

The Internet is a good place to start because it allows you to compare the previous work and styles of many photographers and read the testimonials from other couples. It will also open your eyes to the fact that wedding photographs do not have to all look the same! They can be styled in many different ways to make your wedding look unique and different. The only limitation is your own imagination and the creativity of the photographer.

However, be aware that unless the photographer has whole wedding albums on his site, then the photos on display will tend to be his very best ones. **End Summary** Topics: scottish wedding photographer weddings photography tips
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Buying A Wedding Cake - Do's and Don'ts

A wedding cake is the centre of attention at any wedding reception. It can also reflect the personalities of the couple and any themes they have incorporated into the wedding. The traditional fruit wedding cake is supposed to represent fertility and the cutting of the cake symbolises the first act of the couples working together in a caring, sharing way.

If you are a good enough cook, then you can bake the cake yourself but lesser mortals will have to buy a cake from a cake shop, bakers, or department store. However, before buying a cake, there are some basic factors that you will have to consider.

Style of Cake
What style do you want? Traditional, elegant or fun? What type of cake would best fit in with your wedding theme? If you are having a traditional wedding, then does it really make sense to have esoteric cake? Also, make sure the company you are using can provide the cake you want. Before commissioning the cake, always have at look at their portfolio to assure yourself that they are up to the job. It may also give you some good ideas for the type of cake you want. **End Summary** Topics: wedding cakes cake choosing weddings tips advice syle
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - The Travelling Card

Yet another devious trick from Scotland to amaze your friends and family.

How it looks To The Audience

The Magician counts two even piles of cards onto the table. He then takes an odd card and asks the spectator which pile he would like it added to. With a mysterious wave of the hand, he causes the odd card to jump from one pile to the other!

How The Trick Is Done

This is a very effective trick and it all depends on suggestion and the way the cards are counted.

STEP ONE

Ask the spectator to place both hands flat on the table, as though he is playing a piano.

Take two cards from the deck and hold one in each hand, face down.

Say 'Two cards, a pair, always even' and place the two cards between the little and third fingers of the spectator's left hand. The spectator clips them between those fingers, so the cards are held vertically.

Take another two cards from the deck and hold one in each hand, face down, and again say 'Two cards, a pair, always even'. **End Summary** Topics: free magic tricks scotland conjuring fun party entertainment
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - Reading The Cut

In this puzzling trick from Scotland, you can tell how many cards a person spectator has cut from the deck.

How It Looks To The Audience

The Magician asks a spectator to cut a small amount of cards from the top of the deck and count them. He is told not to tell the Magician how many cards he has.

The Magician then cuts a larger amount of cards from the top of the deck for himself.

The Magician then counts his cards to himself and says that he has as many cards as the spectator has, plus four extra cards, and enough cards left to add up to sixteen.

When the Magician counts his cards, this is shown to be correct - even though the Magician could not possibly have known how many cards the spectator has.

The trick can be repeated again and again, with different results - but each time the Magician's prediction is correct.

How The Trick Is Done

The good news is that you do not know how many cards the spectator has taken. All you have to do is make sure that you take more cards than the spectator. **End Summary** Topics: free magic tricks scotland conjuring fun party entertainment
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - The Cards In Mind

Another magic trick from Scotland to entertain your friends and family. In this trick, it will look as though you can read their minds.

How it looks To The Audience

The Magician gives a spectator a deck of cards and then turns his back on the spectator, so he cannot see what the spectator is doing.

He asks the spectator to shuffle the deck and then hold the deck face down in his hand.

He then asks the spectator to think of a number from one to ten. He is to merely think of it and not tell the Magician.

The Magician tells him that once he has thought of the number, then he is to silently deal that amount of cards onto the table and remember the card at that number.

For example, if the number he thought of is five, he would deal five cards onto the table and remember the fifth card.

Once he has memorised the cards, he is asked to place the cards back on to the top of the deck, so his card is back in the same position in the deck. **End Summary** Topics: free magic tricks scotland conjuring fun party entertainment
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - Cutting a Pencil With A Dollar Bill!

Another great, little mystery from Scotland.

In this great trick, you appear to break a pencil in half with nothing more than a banknote.

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

The Magician borrows banknote, such as five pound note or a dollar bill, and folds it in half length-ways.

He then gets a member of the audience to hold a pencil, one end in either hand, in front of him.

With a sweeping action, the Magician strikes the pencil with the banknote and breaks the pencil in two!

No matter how hard the other people try, they cannot replicate the trick.

How The Trick Is Done

Give a long pencil to a member of the audience and get them to hold it horizontally, one hand at either end, about waist height, in front of them. Impress upon them that they should hold the pencil tightly.

Borrow a banknote from another member of the audience and fold it half length-ways.

Make a show of running your finger down the fold and saying how sharp it is.

Then hold the banknote at one end between your thumb and first finger, with the fold at the bottom. **End Summary** Topics: free scottish magic tricks scotland business conjuring fun
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - Solid Through Solid

Here is another Magic trick from Scotland to enhance your growing reputation as a Magician.

This a great party trick and will really make people believe you have extraordinary powers.

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

The Magician is dressed wearing a jacket with a shirt and tie.

He asks someone to tie his wrists together as tightly as they can with a roll of sellotape or parcel tape.

There is no doubt that his hands are bound together so tightly that he will have to be cut loose.

The Magician tells the audience he will demonstrate how to pass one solid object through another.

The Magician then goes into another room for a minute.

When he steps back into the room, he is still wearing the jacket and tie but has removed his shirt!

His hands are still securely bound and no one has a clue as to how he did it!

How The Trick Is Done

This trick seems impossible but is really quite simple.

To prepare for the trick you take off your shirt and then put it back over your shoulders like a cloak. **End Summary** Topics: free scottish magic tricks business conjuring fun party
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Scottish Magic Tricks - Find The Aces In A Deck Without Looking!

This another great card trick from Scotland.

One of the hardest card tricks in the world is where the Magician finds the four aces in a deck that has been thoroughly shuffled. Such a trick normally requires years of practice and hard work. However, here is a simple version of the trick that is easy to do and will convince people that you must be a master Magician.

How The Trick Appears To The Audience
The Magician hands a pack of cards to a member of the audience and asks them to shuffle the deck thoroughly.

He then asks them to cut the deck several times.

The magician takes the pack and puts it in his pocket.

He says he is going to try to find four special cards.

He reaches into his pocket, and after a bit of searching, removes one card and places it face down on the table.

He does not allow anyone to see the card.

The Magician keeps on doing this until he has removed four cards.

He asks the audience if they believe in Magic.

Regardless of the their answer, he turns the four cards face up, one by one. **End Summary** Topics: free scottish magic tricks business conjuring fun scotland
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.

This is a nice trick which you can perform anywhere. You give a handkerchief a few shakes and after the third shake, a real knot appears in the handkerchief!

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

The Magician takes a handkerchief out of his pocket and holds it by one corner in his right hand. He lifts the bottom corner of the handkerchief with his left hand and places it beside the corner already in his right hand. He then releases the corner, with a quick shake. After a few shakes a knot appears at the bottom of the handkerchief! The knot is genuine and can be untied by a member of the audience.

How The Trick Is Done

Take a handkerchief and tie a single knot about one inch from one corner.

When you are ready to perform the trick, reach into your pocket with your right hand and take hold of the knotted corner in your right fingers, then pull the handkerchief from your pocket.

Hold the handkerchief in your right fist with the knot hidden in your fingers and the inch of handkerchief above the knot protruding from the top of your fist. **End Summary** Topics: free magic tricks scottish magician conjuring fun party
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agency in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
How To Be A Great Groom At Your Wedding Reception

Being the perfect groom is not about pleasing yourself. It is about pleasing your bride and making sure she has a wonderful wedding day. She has been dreaming about this day for a long time and it is your job to help her realise her dream.

So remember to smile, be romantic, be charming, be diplomatic, be cool, and be a gentleman - no matter what anyone says to you.

On The Way To The Reception
If you are travelling together by car or carriage from ceremony venue to the reception venue, then again take the time to compliment your bride on how beautiful she looks and how much you love her. Do not, under any circumstances, start a conversation with the driver about football or the limo - and ignore her completely! That is the kiss of death for romance. So, focus your attention on your girl.

The Wedding Photographs
You must understand that wedding photographs are a very important part of the wedding for your bride. To her, the photographs will be a lasting, romantic record of your special day. **End Summary** Topics: groom.wedding ceremony advice tips bride weddings
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agent in Scotland called The Magic Agency.

Many men think all they have to do on their wedding day is turn up on time and make sure they have the wedding ring. However, if you really want to ensure your bride has a fantastic wedding day, then you really need to empathise with her feelings and work a little harder. In other words - be a super groom.

Be A Gentleman
Being a gentleman is the key to success for any groom at their wedding. You may not be handsome, you may not be rich, but you can be a gentleman. Whatever happens on the day, whatever people say to you, you must be charming, diplomatic, and keep your cool.

Be Romantic
Never miss an opportunity during the day to be romantic to your bride. Although the time for intimate moments will be scarce, there will always be time for a quick kiss, a few tender words, smiles, and hugs. Even if she knows you are not normally the most romantic guy in the world, she will love you even more for making the extra effort.

Smile
Another important thing for a man to remember to do on his wedding day is to smile. **End Summary** Topics: groom.wedding ceremony tips advice bride weddings
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and runs an Entertainment Agent in Scotland called The Magic Agency.
Protect Your Wedding Day With Wedding Insurance

With the average cost of a wedding in the UK being about £15,000 ($22,000), it makes excellent sense to have wedding insurance to cover yourself in case something goes wrong. Although many people do not even want to think about such things, when planning a wedding, or any important event, you should always keep one golden rule in mind - hope for the best - and plan for the worse.

That is what makes a good event planner.

For example, what if the groom or a member of your family becomes ill and the wedding has to be postponed? Although you may be able to arrange another date with your suppliers, they will still want paid for the cancellation. After all, it is not their fault that you had to cancel and they run a business. If they did not charge you a cancellation fee, then they would be out of pocket.

If you have wedding insurance, then you will have the money to pay the cancellation fees and pay for the
new wedding date. No one will be out of pocket. **End Summary** Topics: wedding insurance weddings public liability cover accidents
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
Scottish Magic Tricks - The Invisible Deck of Cards

Magic is an excellent way of entertaining your friends and family. It is also very useful in business and can be used as a great "ice-breaker" when meeting new business contacts. This series of articles will teach you some simple tricks, that you can perform anywhere, without any special equipment.

The Invisible Pack Of Cards

This is an excellent trick and will allow you to do a card trick anywhere you like - even if you do not have a pack of cards!

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

You pretend to take an invisible pack of cards from your pocket and give them to someone to shuffle.

You can have some fun by telling them they have dropped one card and asking them to pick it up and put it in the pack. "Hey, that's the Ace of Spades. That is my favourite card!".

You then ask them to take one card from the pack but not to tell you what the card is.

You then tell them to silently multiply the value of their card by 10. An Ace counts as one, Jack as eleven, and Kings as thirteen. **End Summary** Topics: scotland scottish free magic tricks
About the Author:

In Scotland, Magic is an excellent way of entertaining your friends and family. It is also very useful in business and can be used as a great "ice-breaker" when meeting new business contacts.

This is a great trick for the bar, restaurant, or dinner party. It will literally drive people mad as they try to work it out! They never will How The Trick Appears To The Audience You place three glasses on the bar in a row. The glass in the middle is mouth upwards and the other two glasses are mouth down. You say the aim of the game is to turn the three glasses upright in three moves. However, the cardinal rule of the game is that each of your hands must turn a different glass on each move. You count "one" and turn over two glasses. You change hands to two other glasses and turn them over on "two". You say "three" and with another switch of hands to different glasses. All three glasses are now mouth upwards. However, no matter how hard people try, they can never duplicate your remarkable feat. Even when you do it slowly, they still cannot do it! **End Summary** Topics: scottish scotland magic tricks trick
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.

Legend has it that an unknown card sharp won $1,000,000 from the gangster Lucky Luciano with this card swindle. No one knows if the card sharp lived to collect his money, but it still remains one of the greatest bar bets of all time.

Requirements
A deck of cards, a poker face, eyes like flint, and nerves of steel.

The Scam

Have a friend pick a card from the deck, look at it, and remember it. Impress upon them they must not show it to you nor tell you what the card is.
While they are looking at their card, sneak a peek at the bottom card of the deck, and memorise it.
Cut the deck into two halves, holding one half in each hand.
Get the spectator to replace his card face down on the top half of the deck.
Place the bottom half of the deck on top of his card.
The card you have memorised is now on top of his card.
Tell him that you are going to try to find his card and he must not help you. **End Summary** Topics: gambling bar bet bets card sharp swindle trick magic
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
Weddings in Scotland - Strange Scottish Wedding Traditions!

Whether you are getting married in Scotland, or being married abroad, here are some great Scottish Wedding Traditions that can add a flavour of Scotland to your wedding!
Luckenbooth Brooch
Give your love a Scottish brooch, called a "Luckenbooth", as a token of your love or as a marriage gift. It is usually made of silver and is engraved with two hearts entwined. Many couples will then pin this to the blanket of their first baby for good luck.
Show Of Presents
Every lady who sent a wedding present is invited by the bride and her mother to their house for tea and cakes (or something stronger). All the wedding presents are opened and laid out for everyone to see. Scottish men have long suspected that this is just an excuse for a party. However, so far, there has been no actual evidence to substantiate this outrageous and scurrilous claim.
After The Show of Presents
The bride is dressed up by all her friends who parade her through the town, while banging pots and pans. Although embarrassing for the bride, it was financially rewarding as onlookers were encouraged to throw a coin into a bucket or pot for good luck. **End Summary** Topics: scotland scottish weddings traditions wedding luck lucky
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
Have A Scottish Ceilidh At Your Wedding!

One of the great ways to add a touch of Scotland to your wedding is to have a Ceilidh Dance.

Scottish Ceilidh Dancing is among the most exciting, exhilarating, and fun types of dancing in the world! It's fast, lively, and it doesn't matter if you've got two left feet or three! You'll dance as you've never danced before and think you've got wings on your heels!

What is a Ceilidh?
A Ceilidh (which is pronounced "kay-lee") used to mean a visit or informal gathering of friends and neighbours. However, these days in Scotland, it means a Ceilidh Dance where everyone can get up on the dance floor and enjoy themselves.

What is a Ceilidh Band?
The modern, traditional, Scottish ceilidh band is composed of fiddle, accordion, and drums; however, these days, the line up can be more eclectic with other instruments such as penny whistle, mandolin, big scottish drum, piano, and even bagpipes! There is no set rules about the line up, so just pick the band you like the best.

Won't some people be left out?
Not at all. **End Summary** Topics: ceilidh band dance scotland wedding scottish weddings
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
Wedding Bands - The Safest Way To Book Your Band

When you are looking for a band for your wedding you will have two choices - either trying to find a band yourself or going through a booking agent.

Obviously, if do it yourself you will have to find suitable bands, go and see them perform, and then try to negotiate a fee which is acceptable to both of you. This can be quite time-consuming and hard work.

It may also be impossible to judge the reliability and disposition of the band. The last thing you need is a band that is not going to turn up because of internal bickering or one that does turn up but acts like they are "God's gift to music" and they are doing you a favour by being there. Not exactly the kind of atmosphere you want at your wedding!

However, going to a reputable and established booking agent can make the process it a whole lot easier and painless for you.

A good agent will have already vetted all the bands on his books and he will know these bands are good, friendly, professional and, most importantly, reliable. **End Summary** Topics: wedding band bands booking tips agent
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
Choosing Wedding Invitations - The Easy Way!

Your wedding stationery is the channel of communication between you and your guests. Think of it as your "official wedding channel". The wedding stationery will tell everyone about the "when", "where", "how", and "what" about your wedding day.

Your wedding invitations are your first official announcements of your forthcoming wedding and they are the first important communication between you and your guests. As well as letting your guests know where and when the wedding is going to take place, you will also want the invitations to set the scene for what type of wedding you will be having.

For example, if your wedding is a very formal at an elegant venue, then you will want to reflect this in your invitations. It will give your guests an idea of what type of wedding it is and what to wear. Alternatively, if you are having a less formal wedding, then the invitations could reflect that in colour and design.

The wedding invitations, and indeed all of your wedding stationery, will reflect the mood, style, and colour scheme you have planned for your wedding. **End Summary** Topics: wedding stationery tips invitations weddings cards
About the Author:
Michael Breck is a professional Magician and Entertainment Agent in Scotland.
