(See '...the Axe to the Root..'., Part 1) )

We've been hearing about President Obama's proposal that Israel return to her pre-1967 borders. Hamas has taken it further and suggested pre-1948, and 'suggested' is probably not really an accurate word to use here. The plot to, if at all possible, thwart the plan of God never ceases. It seeks whatever approach might possibly work. If not through obvious & sworn terrorist intent, then let's try the Obama route, let's attempt an American Presidential disguise. ( And how ironic is it that it was, in fact, an American president who came to Israel's aid during the Yom Kippur War, when her enemies tried to take back land lost to Israel in the 1967 Six Day War. That same Israeli victory is now being threatened by...an American president. )

I cannot recall a time when, one way or another, Middle East conflict has not existed. I can, however, recall a time when it first occurred to me that those very lands are host to those places 'where Jesus walked'. Where he was born, preached, healed, died & rose again. There's got to be a connection here. **End Summary** Topics: Abraham Adam and Eve Middle East terrorism grace law Israel
About the Author:
Christina_3's articles appear on her website <a href=" http://godhistoryandyou.wordpress.com" ><b>Jesus, the Revolution & You</b></a>, which presents Revolutionary War history, the Founding Fathers, and the stories of some who came before, alternating our stunning, monumental past with thoughts and articles about history-in-the-making today, the Scriptures and how, sometimes, they are all related.

Countering Extremism with a Different Kind of Weapon

This past July, I posted "Countering the Narrative in Extremism", a piece about former Islamic extremist Maajid Nawaz, who today works ceaselessly to, as the title suggests, counter the teachings of radical Islam. For some reason, I pulled up that post a few days ago. As I re-read it, I felt impacted by Maajid's mission more immediately, more here-and-now than I had when I wrote the post. In it, I quoted Nawaz as saying:

"There are people who are as frustrated as we are with extremism in their own country, in Pakistan. But they've never had anyone to articulate that frustration, to organize them and to help them work along those lines...That means work. It means we have to be in it for the long haul. And it means the solution isn't going to come through bombs or through prison. It has to come through the ideas debate, which is by definition a long strategy."

"...in it for the long haul", "...by definition a long strategy." These are the phrases that caught my attention, and prompted an Internet search of Nawaz. **End Summary** Topics: counter-extremism Maajid Nawaz Islamic ideology Quilliam
About the Author:
Christina_3's articles appear on her website <a href=" http://godhistoryandyou.wordpress.com" ><b>Jesus, the Revolution & You</b></a>, which presents Revolutionary War history, the Founding Fathers, and the stories of some who came before", alternating our stunning, monumental past with thoughts and articles about history-in-the-making today, the Scriptures and how, sometimes, they are all related.

"There"s growing concern that under President Obama, the United States of America will turn into the United States of Europe. "- Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel, American Center for Law & Justice, "Is Our Sovereignty at Risk?"

A lot of times, until one is changed, things happening around a person don"t seem "real". Until one is changed, or unless it affects you"it"s easy (and perhaps better!) to be oblivious to certain realities. Though it causes me a certain amount of tension, even suffering, I thank God that He has, in this respect, changed me. I am glad that, sometimes, I am far more aware of national & international events, events that may threaten American life & Liberty.

There is a praise/worship song I used to hear with lyrics that went something like this: "He did not bring us out this far, to take us back again"" Did God really bring America to this point of her existence in time & history, to let her be trampled and destroyed by the very ones who should be upholding her, and her Constitution? **End Summary** Topics: American sovereignty AZ immigration laws
About the Author:
<a href="http://godhistoryandyou.wordpress.com/2009/04/re-visiting-pre-election-concerns.html">Re-visiting Pre-Election Concerns</a> ,

...more Thoughts on the Ground Zero Mosque

In late August of this year, I posted ""but What is our Goal? (concerning the Ground Zero Mosque)" (see Resource Box). In that post, I "thought out loud" as regards differing viewpoints on this controversial issue. Knee-jerk reactions of outraged opposition pitted against the possibility of a genuine healing & restoration. Perhaps understanding could foster, ultimately, forgiveness.

Earlier today I participated in a brief "Ground Zero mosque" survey. It forced me to be more definite in my own position. While not wanting to entrench myself in a hostile mindset"and wanting to be open to the mind of the Lord, if I could"I had to choose. I don"t want a mosque built on that particular piece of ground. I think President Obama should comment on the wisdom of such a move, not back away from it, leaving the American people with a sense of void. And I"m undecided on a couple of points, still"

"but taking the survey reminded me that I wanted to add a few more facts to my original article, facts recently learned. Facts which unsettled me.

I was not familiar with the concept of "hudna". **End Summary** Topics: Imam Rauf Ground Zero mosque 9/11 hudna Shari'ah law
About the Author:
<a href="http//godhistoryandyou.wordpress.com/2010/08/but-what-is-our-goal-concerning-ground.html">"...but what is our Goal..."</a>

...a McChrystal Follow-up

In almost no time at all, the resignation/removal of General Stanley McChrystal from his leadership position, as the top commander of the forces in Afghanistan, became water-under-the-bridge, it seems. Another event in the fast moving, many faceted world of current events , foreign policy & politics. I myself, even, am over my brief period of almost mourning. General David Petraeus is now top dog.

As, I believe, he should be.

I say this, not because I have become a Petraeus ‘fan’, but because I believe God is large and in charge! I braced myself with that belief as I waited for the axe to fall on Stanley McChrystal, and it has served me well. Other considerations aside, to every thing there is a season, and a time…General McChrystal’s time as US/NATO commander was over. In a way, it doesn’t matter what confluence of events, or carelessly tossed out remarks, brought his curtain down. It was time.

I began my last post (see Resources below) on the General’s firing with the following Scripture, which expressed the truth of a behind-the-scenes Force effecting the placements & removals of those in power. In this post, I’d like to elaborate on that principle a bit. **End Summary** Topics: Gen.Stanley McChrystal Gen.McChrystal's resignation
About the Author:
<a href="http://www.slate.com/id/2259431/?hpid=topnews">Slate</a>

Ceasing to be a Free Enterprise Nation?

About a month ago, I was watching an episode of 'Meet the Press'. As the discussion progressed, I began to discern a mildly alarming trend in it. I'm expecting someone in the group of participants to pick up on it, challenge it, but no one did. I'm sitting there, thinking, "Uh...is this Constitutional? Sounds like a socialist takeover to me...Why isn't someone saying something?"

The issue up for debate was the financial reform program. Senators Reid, Dodd and Shelby, and host David Grogory, were explaining/debating the different aspects of this & that. What caused my mental 'ears' to perk up was when the issue of consumer protection, through "making sure that no financial institution's going to be unregulated (emphasis mine) in our country"(Sen.Dodd), was laid out on the table. To prevent the need for any future bailouts, Secretary Geithner, on the previous week's program, had made the following statements:

"They will make sure if a large institution ever again managed itself to the point where it can't survive on its own and it has to come for {to? **End Summary** Topics: AEI Founders free enterprise government control freedom
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle, and current event perspective is offered as well.

Back to my Hero, George Washington!

Quite often of late, I find myself thinking about a particular aspect of George Washington's life, and that aspect is his death - the manner of it and the timing of it. I can't help but be impacted by its swiftness. Washington stood strong in time & history, but it seems as though, once his monumental purpose was fulfilled, he was almost immediately removed from the stage. And I have to wonder, why was that?

Previous research has shown me that our first President ofttimes fervently desired a return to the privacy of domestic life. One such example, taken from my post "You're Only Halfway Home, General" -
"After the {Revolutionary} war's end, Washington wanted to retire. He very much wanted to retire! In a letter written to a former colleague, in February of 1784, Washington expressed these sentiments: " I feel now, however, as I conceive a wearied Traveller must do, who, after treading many a painful step, with a heavy burden on his shoulders, is eased of the latter, having reached the Goal...and from his House top is looking back...tracing...the Meanders by which he escaped the quicksands and Mires... **End Summary** Topics: George Washington George Washington's death Tobias Lear
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle, and current event perspective is offered as well.

'tis the Season !

Ah yes, it's that time of year once again - when just about all of America, one way or another, gets caught up in the rush, pressure and joy that is Christmas. Last year, I had published the below post, & had been thinking of a re-publish. I decided to go with that, when someone in my 'real life' (although I often prefer my blogging one!) commented negatively on Yuletide gift-giving. In its defense, I found myself reciting facts from...

"...on the Giving of Gifts, etc. at Christmas"

For those of you who may have read my recent Christmas posts, I direct this, uh, warning: my next words will make it appear that I'm doing a complete 180' on the whole 'keeping Christ in Christmas' theme. Be assured, that is not my intent at all! I just have a real problem with religiousness. Some don't realize, so did Jesus...

Years back, I listened to a Christmas Eve message, via radio, broadcast by Jack Hayford, at that time pastor of the Church Along the Way (I think that was the name) in California. 'Born-again' celebrities attended his church. I think he is a very cool guy. **End Summary** Topics: Christmas gift-giving Jesus Magi religiousness Romans8:1
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle, and current event perspective is offered as well.

"The point is that the Taliban, who have had a very clear aim and means from the very beginning, have been able slowly and steadily to get better at what they're doing." (Washington Post)

This remark was recently made by an unnamed European official, whose country's armed forces are combating the Taliban alongside U.S. troops. Concurring with this statement, top U.S. commander in the AfPak arena General Stanley McChrystal evaluates the situation as 'serious'. The Taliban are fighting smarter.

They have shifted their focus of attack to small bases and checkpoints, manned by Afghan forces, isolated and easy to infiltrate, thus obtaining intelligence. Gone are the more large-scale confrontations with American troops, from several years ago, which resulted in large numbers of insurgent fatalities. And the confrontations themselves are more sophisticated in method, observed to be similar in style to U.S. Army Rangers training, which equips soldiers for small scale engagements in 'austere' surroundings. They are considered by one U.S Army general to be developing into a more 'disciplined force'.

Among their newly acquired skills - being able to estimate response times for U.S. fighter jets, helicopters, and artillery cannons. **End Summary** Topics: Afghanistan AfPak war strategy government corruption Pakistan Taliban
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle, and current event perspective is offered as well.

Tackling the Economy

Steve Pearlstein, business columnist for the Washington Post, 'guess-timates' that Americans have been living about 6% beyond their means (p.12) for some time now. As most of us know, the culprit is credit. It became very easy to spend $1.06 for every $1.00 earned. Taking into account the size of this country, and its vast population, it's easy to see this runaway horse galloping across the land, leaving a wide trail of debt in its wake.

Though information was out there, it has been suggested that many Americans were not really aware of our impending economic crisis until later in 2008. I remember hearing radio broadcasts predicting the disaster lasting until the first quarter of 2010, and I still hadn't really felt the pinch of it yet. In fact, it was news to me! It seemed to come out of nowhere. I wasn't that worried, as I've never had alot of money and am used to counting my pennies, tightening my purse strings fairly often. But I wondered, how did this happen? Where did it come from? Why didn't more of us see the signs? **End Summary** Topics: credit credit cards economic recovery economy Kalb Report personal responsibility
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle.

They Wanted a King!...or, the Evils of Monarchy

"And ye have this day rejected your God...ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us." (1 Samuel 10: 19, KJV)

It almost breaks my heart to read through the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel in the Old Testament. It was so not in the heart of the LORD to place an earthly king over the people of Israel. He could not have been any more clear, nor more specific, in His warnings to the people regarding such a form of 'leadership'. But "Nevertheless the people refused...and they said, Nay, but we will have a king over us:" (1 Samuel 8: 19, KJV) Eerdman's Handbook to the Bible (p.235) points out that, in those days (and I point out, in days yet to come!) "having a king mean{t} conscription, forced labour, taxation, and loss of personal liberty. But even this does not deter them."

Now wouldn't you think such dire consequences as outlined in 1 Samuel would stop Israel dead-in-their-tracks, so to speak, as concerns demanding a king? **End Summary** Topics: monarchy government Samuel Benjamin Franklin Lucifer grace
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com/">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle.

"I now exist and appear in the land of the living by the miraculous care of Providence"
-George Washington, in a letter to John Augustine Washington, 1755

My personal belief is that, if you have been designed by God to fulfill a specific mission, neither heaven, nor hell, nor anyone or anything in between will be able to remove you from the earth until you have done so. You will get there and you will do it.

The Old Testament man 'after God's own heart', David, the shepherd boy who became king of Israel, had a few close calls. Further down in this article, we'll get to that. Right now, though, let me tell you about some of George Washington's escapes from death.

1} In Recollections and Private Memoirs of Washington (published in 1860), Martha Washington's grandson, (basing his articles on information gleaned from two of Washington's childhood cousins), relates an account of a teen-aged George's perhaps foolhardy encounter with a horse so vicious that no one could even bridle, let alone ride it. **End Summary** Topics: George Washington destiny God's will Thomas Hickey
About the Author:
Christina's articles appear on her website, <a href="http://godhistoryandyou.blogspot.com">"God, History and You"</a> where early American history is presented from a different angle.
