Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are professional major league baseball team. They play on Chicago's North Side. They are in the National League's central division. The Chicago Cubs are owned by the Tribune Company and managed by Lou Piniella. John McDonough and Jim Hendry are the team's president and general manager, respectively.

There are actually two major league teams in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to the Chicago Cubs, there is also the Chicago White Sox, who play in the American League. Both the Cubs and the White Sox are charter members of their leagues. They have also both won championships for their leagues, with the Cubs scoring theirs in 1876, to be followed a quarter of the century later by the White Sox. They were each referred to as the White Stockings when winning their first championships.

The Cubs were once owned by the Wrigley family, famous for manufacturing chewing gum. One eccentric deed reputedly orchestrated by P.K. Wrigley, who owned the team during the Great Depression, was the hiring of a man to put an evil eye hex on opposing players for an entire season. The procedure allegedly failed, although the man was paid several thousand dollars. **End Summary** Topics: mlb baseball
About the Author:
The author's favorite URLs for MLB baseball include: MLB Scoring Report | Sports Betting Baseball | Sports Web site Marketing

China Travel Points

China is a land of ancient wonders. It's so different from the norm of western travelers that a first visit there can be a bit intimidating. Today, we will become acquainted with some basic traveler information on China. We'll talk about the time of year to go, when to avoid China and some points of interest.

Times to Go

China can get pretty cold in the winter. For instance, Temperatures in Beijing are average highs of 40F and lows of 14F. In Hong Kong, the temperatures are more bearable”58 F 75 F. The summers can get a little warm for some, but it's the best time of the year to visit China. Temperatures can reach 90 F in Beijing and Hong Kong.

When To Avoid China

The worst month to travel in China is February. In early to mid-February, the Chinese hold their Spring Festival”we also know it as Chinese New Year. February is when most Chinese either take a vacation or limit work time. Therefore, the country is crowded with travelers and businesses are closed or operating during limited hours.

Festivals

As with many countries, festivals are held throughout the year at various locations within China. **End Summary** Topics: travel vacation china
About the Author:

Downtown Las Vegas

Some locals call downtown Las Vegas "Vintage Vegas." It's where much of the action took place back before the late 1980s. It's still a good place to visit. Many well-known casinos are located in downtown Las Vegas. It's a great place to go if you want to gamble with lower minimums. Over 17 million people visit downtown Las Vegas annually.

Downtown Las Vegas Gambling

As mentioned, the minimum bets in downtown Las Vegas are lower. They also have high-limit gambling. For instance, finding Blackjack tables with $1-$2 minimum bet is commonplace. Try finding a bunch of $2 Blackjack tables at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip.

Downtown Las Vegas Casinos

At the very end”almost disconnected from the rest of the casinos”are the Western and El Cortez. They are really down the street by themselves. The Western is a very low-end casino, and not something I recommend visiting”unless you want to sell drugs while you play Blackjack. The El Cortez is better and features a lot of gambling for your dollar. They even have 40-cent Keno. However, there are better casinos up the street. **End Summary** Topics: las vegas travel vacation
About the Author:

Destination Las Vegas

As a long-time resident of Las Vegas, I'm never amazed when people ask me whether or not there are actual homes here. For many, Las Vegas is nothing but casinos. The Las Vegas Strip spans just a couple miles of the city, but many who have never been here think that's all there is.

There are entertainment and sights off the strip, but today I will run down some basic Las Vegas information. The main tourist area is divided into two parts. The first part is called "Downtown Las Vegas" and it was where the glitter used to be. I still remember when you could drive your vehicle through where the Fremont Street Experience is today. It was a sight to behold.

In downtown Las Vegas, you'll find classic casinos such as the Plaza, the Golden Nugget, Binions Horseshoe, the Fremont, and others. For gambling, I like Binions. It's still a place that feels like a gambler's casino.

The other section, which is more commonly known, is the Las Vegas Strip. Corporate entertainment at its finest”as I like to say. You could say that this is the themed part of Las Vegas. **End Summary** Topics: las vegas travel vacation
About the Author:

Five Internet Business Start-Up Steps

Starting a new business can be very fun. For some, this is the best part of the business' life. The uncertainty and optimism of a brand-new business can be intoxicating. For others, just getting to this stage is a challenge. Today, I will present you with ten steps you need to take to get your small business off the ground right. Just because you are starting up an Internet business doesn't mean you should jump in without thinking first.

Let's get right into the steps.

Step One: Set up a business entity”preferably a corporation or LLC. If you are going to run a business, you should set it up as a corporation or LLC to limit your personal liability.

Step Two: Get a business phone number. Yes, I'm aware that you probably have a phone number already, but you should give your new business its own phone number”even if it's just a virtual number tied to your home phone.

Step Three: Set up a business address. If an office or virtual office is too expensive or just not possible, set up an address at your closest mailbox place (not the post office). **End Summary** Topics: business internet business
About the Author:

Avoid The Information Trap

I've been doing business on the Internet for about 12 years now and I've seen the amount of information on how to make money online grow to staggering amounts. Everywhere you look there is some "guru" of this or that trying to peddle ebooks, seminars, software, and other doodads. It's absolutely mind-boggling.

There's so much information that confusion has set in. In the old days we cried for information, because we thought it would make us informed and wise. However, with the barrage of good information comes even more bad information. The end result is a world of confusion”especially for those trying to figure out how to make money on the Internet.

There's a common state of being among people trying to make money on the Internet now. It's a state of do nothingness. I've run across plenty of people who started out researching how to make money on the Internet”like through buying ebooks”and lost months of their life. Time flew past them and they didn't actually build anything. Rather, they just kept reading and hoping from one "guru" to the next.

That state of being is really the topic of this article. **End Summary** Topics: business internet business
About the Author:

Mortgage Loans For People With Bad Credit

There are a number of mortgage lenders that will work with people who have bad credit. When it comes to obtaining a low mortgage rate, the information on your credit report will play a pivotal role in the interest rates you are given. In most cases, those with less than desirable credit will be given mortgages that have much higher interest rates than applicants who have good credit. In addition to this, most lenders will provide more favorable terms to those that have good credit. To get an excellent interest rate on your mortgage, you will at least want to have a credit score of 720 or higher. Fortunately, there is a sizeable market of potential homeowners who do not have good credit, and there a number of lenders who cater to these people.

To get a 30 year mortgage that has a fixed rate, you will want to have a minimum credit score of 620. If you have bad credit, statistics shows that you will have a credit score that is lower than this amount. There are two things you can do if you want to get a mortgage but are concerned with your credit rating. **End Summary** Topics: mortgage credit bad credit bad credit loan bad credit mortgage
About the Author:

Knott's Berry Farm

Nestled inside beautiful Southern California; lies an entertainment park that could give any Disney World a run for their money. Knott's Berry Farm, one of the most popular amusement parks in the country, is a great place to visit if you are looking for something adventurous to do. From scary attractions to live music and theatre, this destination is clearly a hotspot for children and adults alike.

Due to the fact that Knott's Berry Farm is almost always crowded; it is recommended that you visit the area during off seasons. However, if you have no choice, you should try getting there right when the park opens. As a result, you will not have to wait hours just to get on one ride. This way you can enjoy the entire park, before the rush begins. Although Disney Land is right down the road, Knott's Berry Farm still acquires a large crowd. While Knott's Berry Farm is a hot destination, the prices are a bit expensive. Adults are $40 each, whereas children are roughly $30. Although this may sound like quite an increase in price, the majority of amusements parks are rarely ever less than $30. **End Summary** Topics: knotts berry farm california travel vacation
About the Author:

St. Louis Rams Preview 2006

The St. Louis Rams struggled last season going 6-10. They closed out the 2005 season by going 1-4 over their last five games. The lone win was against Dallas (20-10) in a meaningless game. This season the rams have a new coach”Scott Linehan. Are the problems gone as well? Linehan not only steps into the Rams coaching job for the first time, but as an NFL head coach too.

Quarterback

Marc Bulger will be the guy again in St. Louis. The main question surrounding Bulger isn't his ability”it's his health. He's had arm problems in the past. However, the QB position is one of the more solid ones on the offense. Waiting in backup is the competent Gus Frerotte. They also have Ryan Fitzpatrick. He's had limited duty, but he impressed.

Running Back

Marshal Faulk is gone. He had knee issues and will miss the entire 2006 season. He's technically retiring, but there a chance that he returns for one last season in 2007. The man for the Rams is Steven Jackson. While Jackson gained over 1,000 yards last season, he wasn't a "great" running back. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports st louis rams
About the Author:

Arizona Cardinals Preview 2006

For years the Arizona Cardinals have been good for one thing”taking up space. Their best season came back in 2001 when they won seven games. Last season they were a paltry 5-11. Could this season really be any different? Since the Arizona Cardinals had money to spend this off-season, they went out and picked up running back Edgerrin James. Will this move be enough to propel the hapless Arizona Cardinals into a possible playoff scenario?

Quarterback

It's hard to believe that Kurt Warner is still around. He had some great years, but he's highly injury prone. When Warner is healthy and on his game he can toss 300 yard games with the best of them. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. If Warner goes down, the Arizona Cardinals have no viable replacement. It's really going to come down to the offense line protecting their quarterback. Perhaps the addition of a superstar running back will help some.

Running Back

Anyone that's been watching the NFL for a least one year knows the name Edgerrin James. He's a former cog in the wheel of the Indianapolis Colts high-powered offense. Now he comes to the desert hoping to revive a struggling offense. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports arizona cardinals
About the Author:

New Orleans Saints Preview 2006

After last years disgusting 3-13 season”thanks partly to hurricane Katrina”the Saints are hoping 2006 brings better fortunes. Unless you have been in a coma, you know the Saints drafted one of the top college players, Reggie Bush. He recently signed a deal. Could the Saints actually improve? They were averaging about 8 wins per season prior to 2005.

Quarterback

The New Orleans Saints get a major improvement at the QB spot thanks to the signing of Drew Brees. He will be a huge upgrade, and the Saints now have a formidable passer leading the offense. Brees is coming off of shoulder surgery. Although he will be fine come the season opener, it's something to keep an eye on. With Brees at QB, the Saints have an above average man at the position.

Running Back

Deuce McAllister tore an ACL in his right knee last season. He's been working hard and will come back with a vengeance in 2006. He better come ready to play, because first round pick, Reggie Bush, is waiting in the wings. Bush really isn't a full-time running back, but he can severely eat into McAllister's playing time if Deuce fails to perform. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports new orleans saints
About the Author:

The Minnesota Vikings have won 9 games per season for the past three years. It's been a while since they have broken that mark. Could this year be the one? In the weakened NFC, winning 9 games just might get you into the playoffs. The Vikings caused off-season waves by signing OG Steve Hutchinson. They also let QB Daunte Culpepper go.

Quarterbacks

As mentioned, Daunte Culpepper finally took off. The offense will rest on Brad Johnson's shoulders”yes he's still in the league. It seems like Brad Johnson has been around for quite some time. In fact, he's entering his 14th year in the NFL. Johnson is 38 and there are concerns about his durability. He still has some talent left, but it's fading. The Vikings also need to bring up a solid possible replacement for Johnson. Overall, the quarterback position is about average.

Running Backs

Chester Taylor figures to get the bulk of the carries this season. He's unproven though. He came over from the Ravens where he had 292 yards over 41 carries. He showed some potential, but we will have to see how he does in the starting role. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports minnesota vikings
About the Author:

Green Bay Packers Preview 2006

Since 2001 the Green Bay Packers have won fewer games than the previous year. Their alarming slide came to the forefront last season when they finished a paltry 4-12. The team was riddled with injuries and problems. It looked like Brett Favre's last season would be one to forget. However, Favre has decided to come back for a 15th season in 2006. This upcoming season has to be better than 2005, right?

Quarterbacks

Brett Favre is past his prime and clinging onto the glory days gone by. Sure, he still has some gas in the tank, but he commits far too many errors to lead the team anywhere meaningful”like the Super Bowl. What's worse is the fact that the Packers don't have a bona fide replacement for him. Of course, many will say there's just one Favre. Still, the Packers are just average in this category. A QB that throws 29 interceptions and 20 TD's just isn't getting the job done.

Running Backs

Who's going to step up and be the man? Ahman Green is an injury waiting to happen. Last season was cut short”he had 255 yards. If Green is healthy, he should rush for about 1,000 yards. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports green bay packers
About the Author:

Detroit Lions Preview 2006

It’s no surprise that the Detroit Lions had a miserable season in 2005. Over the last five seasons, 2004 was their best with six wins. In 2005, they finished 5-11, which is around average for them. Their worst season recently was in 2001 when they had just two wins. Are the Lions doomed for another season of 2-5 wins? Is there any reason for hope?

Key Additions

One of the major additions for the Lions is actually their new coach. Mike Martz is going to change the Lions for the better. Even if their talent level remains the same, they will be a tougher team under Martz. The Lions won’t become the St. Louis Rams, but they should improve and no longer be a doormat on the way to the win column for the opposing team.

Quarterback

The quarterback position is always a sore point with the Lions. To improve their QB situation, the Lions signed Jon Kitna, Josh McCown and Shaun King. Who’s going to start? Right now, this position is a toss up between backup-level quarterbacks. Kitna has the most talent of the three, but he’s not someone that will bring a team to the next level. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports detroit lions
About the Author:

Chicago Bears 2006 Preview

The Chicago Bears had a great season in 2005. They finished 11-6 and went to the playoffs. Their one problem was scoring. Many in the media have touted the Bears as the NFC North champions. Are they correct? Let's take a look at the 2006 Chicago Bears. Fortunately for them, their division is not that tough.

Key Moves

One major move by the Bears was the addition of Brian Griese. The offense was up and down last season. Griese will be fighting for a job. He comes in as a backup, but if Grossman fails to impress, Griese could take the reins. Their defense loses a good player in Jerry Azumah. Despite being only 28, he had to call it quits. His body got the best of him.

Quarterbacks

One of the issues last season was the health of Rex Grossman. He's expected to be healthy this season. Grossman could help the Bears offense soar. The signing of Brian Griese gives the Bears a solid backup. Even is Grossman goes down, they won't experience a horrendous drop. Neither quarterback is upper echelon. The Bears QB situation is just above average. **End Summary** Topics: nfl football sports chicago bears
About the Author:

Americans Fear Crime

Are you afraid of crime? Do you think about becoming the victim of crime often? According to the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics, many Americans fear becoming the victim of crime often. As I will show in this article, the fear crosses all lines—sex, race, education, age and profession. Subjects were asked if they were afraid to walk alone around their neighborhood or any area within one mile from it at night. The results may surprise you. They will clearly show that fear of walking alone at night is one of the most common fears among Americans.

According to the most recent data available, only 19% of all men surveyed said they felt safe walking at night alone around their neighborhood. In stark contrast, 47% of all women surveyed said they felt perfectly fine walking alone. Looking back at the earliest numbers available, which would be from 1973, illustrates that this response is normal. In 1973, only 20% of men surveyed felt safe walking alone at night verses an astounding 59% for women.

Among white individuals, an average of 30% feel safe walking at night in their neighborhoods. Contrast that to the 41% of black individuals that felt safe. **End Summary** Topics: federal prison prison jail criminal justice legal law court judge lawyer police inmate corrections crime
About the Author:
