The Difficulties of Implementing a Dual Diagnosis Programme

Recovery from substance misuse is difficult for any users trying to get their lives back on track but, for those people who suffer from dual diagnosis issues, the journey back to normality or as near to normality as possible in terms of their underlying illness is compounded by a number of underlying issues. One of these is the constant confrontation of everyday medication for their underlying illness. Another is their sense of underlying self-worth. Still another concern is a perception problem: this includes perception of other people and, more fundamental, a problem of low self-esteem in their perception of themselves as valued members of society. While substance misuse is of increasing concern world-wide, the recognition, in its own right, of problems associated with dual diagnosis has been rather overlooked. Despite dual diagnosis having been with us for many years, it is really only comparatively recently that resources have been made available to tackle the problem and institute a dual diagnosis programme in its own right. **End Summary** Topics: Dual Diagnosis Dual Diagnosis Program
About the Author:
Dennis is the owner of this website for people ho want to know more about Dual Diagnosis , you can also read up on Dennis he has some great articles on his Squidoo lens about Dual Diagnosis

A Joined-Up Approach to Drugs and Alcohol Abuse

Drug and alcohol abuse are completely separate issues while at the same time, two sides of the same coin. There is a dual perspective on the acceptability or otherwise of what is abuse and what is not. After all, some drugs are legal nicotine, caffeine, alcohol but where is this invisible line beyond which it is unacceptable to go? What about the recreational drug user or the elderly person who has found that marijuana eases the various aches and pains of old age? This is not a simple problem because, what is acceptable to one person is anathema to another. How far over the boundaries of social acceptance does drugs and alcohol abuse have to go for it to become a problem and, is it the abuse itself that is the problem or is it the abuse compounded by the addiction, the total inability to live without the dependency? **End Summary** Topics: Dual Diagnosis Dual Diagnosis Program
About the Author:
Dennis is the owner of this website for people ho want to know more about Dual Diagnosis , you can also read up on Dennis he has some great articles on his Squidoo lens about Dual Diagnosis

Killing craving for marijuana through marijuana detox
The Marijuana plant is one of the oldest psychoactive plants. It grows as weed and is cultivated all over the world, all kinds of climates and soils. It has been used as remedies for thousands of years. The active ingredients of the plant can be put to use in a multitude of medical conditions. Its effects include increasing creativity, provoking mystical experiences, heightening the capacity to feel sense and share etc. After alcohol, it is the most popular recreational drug.
The residue from marijuana in the addict’s body creates craving for marijuana. The goal of marijuana detox is to eventually eradicate the drug. To increase the chance of a successful recovery, all its associated traces are also required to be removed from the body. The human body continuously expels the marijuana residue through urination and sweating. However, some marijuana detox facilities have the capacity to speed up the marijuana detox process. This in turn, makes for a faster and easier recovery.
Residues of many drugs including marijuana are known to accumulate in the body. These compounds can be maintained for extended period of time. **End Summary** Topics: Marijuana Addiction Marijuana Detox
About the Author:
Dennis is the owner of this website for people ho want to know more about Marijuana Addiction Treatments , you can also read up on Dennis he has some great articles on his Squidoo lens about Marijuana Addiction Treatments

How To Get High With Mary Jane

Statistics show in 2001 that 83 million Americans (about 37 percent) starting the age of 12 have tried marijuana at least once according to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA).
Marijuana is often called grass, pot, reefer, weed, herb, mary jane or mj. It is made of dried leaves, stems, seeds and flowers of the plant with the scientific name Cannabis sativa. Delta-9-tetrahydrocaanbinol (THC) is the active ingredient that causes intoxication and produces mind-altering effects to whoever is taking it.
There are many variations in usage of this addictive substance. Some combines it with other drugs such as crack cocaine, while some replaces the inside of a cigar with it. Others brew marijuana and serve it as tea while others still, cook and mix it with food.
THC from marijuana when taken, travels through the blood stream and reaches the brain affecting the cannabinoid receptors within the nerves which influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movements. The effect starts immediately upon entry to the brain and can last from 1 to 3 hours.

Planning an Alcohol Intervention

Planning an Alcohol Intervention

If you have an alcoholic for a friend or even as a family member, you are probably well aware of the results of alcoholism. You have probably already seen the alcoholic pry away from friends and family and become depressed and unhealthy. To top all these problems off, they might even be involved in criminal activities!

Alcoholism is often described as progressive” in nature: this means that with the course of time the problem will actually get worse. The state in which your friend or family member is in now is probably much better than the state he will be in a few years from now.

Alcoholics are often brilliant when it comes to devising tactics and mechanisms to keep away from people who are trying to convince them to get help. However, keeping quiet would be impossible when seeing your loved one fall prey to this horrid disease.”

Alcohol intervention might be the right option for the sufferer and you! Alcohol intervention is a process designed by friends and family members of the alcoholic. It is solely an attempt to put an end to the anti-social and fatal behavior of an alcoholic. **End Summary** Topics: Drug Intervention Alcohol Intervention
About the Author:
Dennis is the owner of this website for people ho want to know more about Drug Intervention , you can also read up on Dennis his stuff on his Squidoo lens about Alcohol Interventions

Even if there are few connected problems, the severity of addiction itself ranges widely among different people. Likewise different sort of drug intervention is required for every different individual.
Drug intervention addresses the individual's physical, psychological, emotional, and social conditions. Continual decrease in alcohol or other drug use and nonstop increases in personal health and social function are the prime goals.
Various types of alcoholism treatment
It is estimated today that just in the United States, almost eight thousand Americans receive some kind of alcohol rehabilitation treatment daily. It is an undeniable truth that today alcoholism is a phenomenon that touches and affects quite many people, which made the need for rehabilitation centers bigger as well. Alcoholism treatment in these centers occurs as a combination of medication and therapy, as well as psychological support and encouragement. This is something that helps alcoholics not only to stop drinking but also to avoid relapsing in the future. This is actually the biggest problem when it comes to alcoholism, because there are many people who go through a program successfully but when there is some kind of problem they relapse and need to start over again.
The effectiveness of alcoholism treatments can actually vary for different people; different people have different and specific needs , which means that they need some particular kind of treatment, which can address their personal needs and requirements.

The Differences in Alcohol Treatment

There are many types of alcohol treatments programs that are available today. Some believe that a 12 step program is better than the traditional 2 step program. The traditional program consists of detoxification and the rehabilitation. This is great for many but some feel that there needs to be more to it than that.
The twelve step program involves not only the detox, rehab and AA but also consists of the psychological therapy and interventions as well. Keeping in mind that the alcohol abuse not only effects the body but it also affects the mind as well.
When the patient is drinking, they can forget about all of the problems and issues that they were facing in everyday life and just ignore what is going on around them. This gives them the opportunity to go off in their own little world and leave all of their troubles and woes behind them.
The treatment for alcohol will take the patient through the steps of re-learning how to deal with everyday life and the problems that come with it. **End Summary** Topics: Alcohol Rehab Alcohol Treatment
About the Author:
Dennis Draking is he creator of this website for people ho want to know more about alcohol treatment clinics , you can also read up on Dennis his stuff on his Squidoo page about alcohol treatment clinics

Detoxification and Alcohol

Detoxification and Alcohol

Going through a detoxification program is essential in the recovery process for alcoholism. If you skip this step than the chances of backsliding into old habits are very great. This process will clean the alcohol out of your system so that you can start with a clean slate and begin your rehabilitation process.
The detox program is very difficult and hard for most. This is done as a inpatient process so a trained professional medical staff can watch over you to ensure that you do not need hospitalization. This can become necessary if the addiction is severe.
Most facilities will try to make the detox program as comfortable as possible while you are going through withdrawal. If your addiction is severe enough, the withdrawal from detox can be extremely rough on someone. You cannot even begin to recover from alcoholism until you go through the process of detox.

12 step program: Information on Alcoholism Treatment Methods
The 12 step program of AA standing for Alcoholics Anonymous is a self-help program for people suffering from alcoholism and is an outline for alcoholism treatment and recovery. When following the 12 steps, the alcoholic can rid himself from alcohol addiction. It is not of course the only alcoholism treatment program but it’s quite popular and common, especially in the Northern America and is recommended in conjunction with other types of treatment.
The 12 steps program consists of 12 mandatory steps and starts with the admittance and acceptance of the problem, which is of course the most important part of the treatment and recovery process. Actually people who have issues with alcohol rarely admit their problem, until it’s already late. Unless they admit the reality of their life and severity of their problem, obviously they cannot begin the process of treatment.
Once a patient starts with the program he will be asked to create a list consisting of people that were affected, hurt or harmed by their drinking problems. The idea is to start making amends, although this is something that sounds and is very hard for some people. **End Summary** Topics: Addiction Recovery Drug Addiction
About the Author:
Dennis created a site for people that need more addiction recovery , if you want to know who Dennis is he has a Squidoo page where he write more one the subject of addiction recovery

The second step is to seek help and counseling of professionals and healthcare providers who can help him address his problem effectively. Before undergoing any sort of treatment, the experts should be able to evaluate his condition and problem and try to create a personalized program that will be able to meet the particular needs of every individual.

Drug treatment programs are the most effective solution for those who have developed a dependency on drugs or alcohol. There are many different types of programs, ranging from establishments with all inclusive services, where patients spend some particular time on order to detox without any external influence, or less formal, such as the outpatient programs; in this case the drug treatment consists of an advocated series of meetings and emotional or even medical support, without isolating the patient at any case from his ordinary life and habits.
The main target of the drug treatment programs is to eliminate the dependency in alcohol or drugs and prevent further abuse. Some of them though offer a rather short term aid , aiming at breaking the usage immediately, and is applied in cases where the a life threatening danger is more than obvious or present, such as overdoses and illnesses. It is estimated that more than 25million people seek medical help just in Northern America so as to deal with their drug and alcohol problem. **End Summary** Topics: health addiction Drug Treatment Alcohol Rehab
About the Author:
Dennis Draking is he creator of this website for people ho want to know more about drug rehab centers , you can also find more information on his Squidoo lens about what you need to know about Drug Rehab Centers

Care To Know If You Have Dual Diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis is sometimes called co-morbidity, concurrent disorders, co-occurring illness, co-occurring disorder, double trouble, and dual disorder. Even the professional field of literature is full of confusion as to what term should be used to describe dual diagnosis.
A person should be diagnosed as having dual diagnosis if one has a psychosocial issue and at the same time experiencing multiple illnesses of which it can be more than two. Example is a person which has both a psychiatric diagnosis and a substance abuse diagnosis from either drug or alcohol or perhaps both.
This problem affects an individual’s physical, psychological, social and spiritual functions and therefore unable to relate to themselves and to others. Actually, each of the illnesses interacts with each other causing more complications than it already is. Sometimes, the symptoms overlap from each other creating a mask and difficulty for its diagnosis and treatment.
Usually, a person does not acknowledge that he or she has a co-occurring disorder and may sincerely try to be treated from just one illness. Normally the psychosocial disorder is unacceptable to many. **End Summary** Topics: Dual Diagnosis Dual Diagnosis Program
About the Author:
Dennis Draking is he creator of this website for people ho want to know more about Detox 24 , you can also read up on Dennis his stuff on his squidoo page about detoxing!

Plenty of people who try to quit marijuana after having been addicted for a long time find the strength of their cravings extremely surprising. Cravings can actually control the behavior of the person!
The cravings can be a result of a variety of reasons. Different people respond to varied triggers.

Alcohol and drug Intervention is a very fragile method to treat addicts. Drugs or alcohol intervention requires full knowledge of what to do and how to do. Hence, you should never get in to this practice until you are well qualified. If you have some expertise and you want to practice, never do it without help of a professional counselor.
Today most scientists consider addiction as a brain disease. This is a condition which is caused, by relentless changes to brain structure and its function. Using certain drugs repeatedly over time transforms brain structure and function in fundamental and long lasting ways. This can persist long even after the individual stops using the drugs. After a certain quantity of a drug is being taken, and this quantity is different for everyone, it happens that as if a switch in the brain is turned over from normal to addict. In such cases drug intervention is the only way available to recover the patient.
Addiction is actually defined as out of control and compulsive drug craving, seeking and even using in terms of negative health. This also inflicts dangerous social consequences. **End Summary** Topics: Drug Intervention Alcohol Intervention
About the Author:
Dennis created a site for people that need more Alcoholism Treatement Center Information , if you want to know who Dennis is he has a Squidoo page where he write more one the subject of Alcoholism Treatement Center Information

This sensation, in the words of a drug addict, may be described as a ‘trip’ or a ‘kick’. Now, medically speaking this is nothing but a neurological excitation of the brain or better put, a set of complex hallucinations which the subject begins to enjoy.
Some of the factors that govern drug abuse are disturbed childhood, problem families, peer pressure, ease of availability, western culture, non availability of parents for supervisory duties and last but not the least availability of monetary resources. **End Summary** Topics: Alcohol Rehab Alcohol Treatment
About the Author:
Dennis created a site for people that need more alcoholism information , if you want to know ho Dennis is he has a Squidoo page where he write more one the subject of alcoholism information

When going through detoxification from an alcohol addiction, it can not only be painful on a mental level but a physical level as well. During the detox process, medications are used to help with patient go through the withdrawal symptoms with a little more ease.
There are times when someone’s addiction has taken over their body and caused the liver and other parts of the body to deteriorate. Because of this, detoxification can sometimes result in death or further illness if the proper precautions are not taken.
There are a few different medications that detox and rehab facilities use when going through the process. The most popular of these are benzodiazepines. They help to give relief for the insomnia and anxiety that people feel during the cleansing process. They will also help you to relax. Two medications in this family that are used are clonazepam and diazepam.
Another drug that is used is barbiturates. These help with the symptoms of withdrawal by working on the central nervous system and act as a sedative. They have an anticonvulsant also so that it helps the body to relax and adjust to the new changes. **End Summary** Topics: Alcohol Rehab Alcohol Treatment
About the Author:
Dennis Draking is he creator of this website for people ho want to know more about drug rehab centers , you can also find more information on his Squidoo lens about what you need to know about Drug Rehab Centers
