How To Eat Your Cake and Have It Too

If you are an overweight adult, you probably eat too much. By "too much," we mean more than you need. Your body needs a certain amount of calories to keep it going, and if you eat more than that amount, you will gain weight. If you consume fewer calories than you expend, you will lose weight. It's that simple, and you must not allow charlatans and mountebanks to persuade you otherwise. Unless you have some sort of illness, this method will work for you. So read what I have to say, discuss it with your doctor, and follow it if he or she approves.

A pound of fat represents approximately 3500 calories of stored energy. In order to lose a pound of fat, you have to use 3500 more calories than you consume. It's best not to do this over the course of a day; you'd probably hurt yourself, and your body (knowing it, the uncooperative creature) would probably have some extreme reaction which does not involve you losing any actual weight. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Irritable Bowel Colonic Irrigation Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
What To Look For In Weight Loss or Weight Maintenance Programs

During any one year, more than half of all Americans go on a diet to lose weight. For many people, it is difficult to lose more than a few pounds -- and few succeed in remaining at the reduced weight. The difficulty in losing weight and keeping it off leads many people to turn to a professional or commercial weight loss program for help. When considering joining a weight loss program, choose wisely.

Almost any of the commercial weight loss programs can work, but only if they motivate you sufficiently to decrease the amount of calories you eat or increase the amount of calories you burn through physical activity each day (or both).

What Should I Look for In a Weight Loss Program?

Make sure it is safe. Whether you create your own weight loss program or use a commercial one, make sure it is safe. A safe diet should include all of the recommended daily allowances (RDAs) for vitamins, minerals, and protein. The weight loss diet should be lower in calories (energy) only, not in essential vitamins or minerals. In general, a diet containing 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day should be selected for most women; **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Irritable Bowel Colonic Irrigation Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Can High Protein Diets Help You Lose Weight?

Low-carb diets are last year's news, but high-protein diets are emerging as the latest buzz in weight control. That's because emerging research has hinted that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates. Can a high-protein diet really help you eat fewer calories (and thus lose weight) by keeping your hand out of the cookie jar?
What Studies Show

Participants in a study recently published in the 'American Journal of Clinical Nutrition' reported greater satisfaction, less hunger, and weight loss when fat was reduced to 20% of the total calories in their diets, protein was increased to 30%, and carbohydrates accounted for 50%. The study participants ate some 441 fewer calories a day when they followed this high-protein diet and regulated their own calorie intake.

Another study, reported in the 'Journal of Nutrition', showed that a high-protein diet combined with exercise, enhanced weight loss and fat loss -- and improved blood fat (lipid) levels.

"Our research suggests that higher-protein diets help people better control their appetites and calorie intake," says researcher Donald Layman, PhD, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise Slimming Protein
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
This May Be The Answer To Your Obesity Problem

You are overweight because you overeat! That is, you eat too much for your particular body.

But the question is: why do you overeat? When you've found this out, you will have solved your problem of obesity.

Many people believe that they have no willpower. They say, "I just seem to feel hungry all the time," or "If I just had enough willpower, I could lose weight." Often they believe they are powerless to break the habit.

Most of the time, overeating is often a symptom of something deeper. Just like the alcoholic, the overeater is often craving for the next 'fix'; only the poison is not alcohol -- it is food. The first step to overcoming food addiction is to recognize the reasons why you do it. We are all different, but here are the five most common reasons why the obese eat too much:

ONE: Stuffing Down Emotions

Many of us grow up in culture that frowns upon expression of negative emotions. We are told to "put on a happy face", or that "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." It is true, sometimes we have to be diplomatic; **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise Overeating Eating Habits
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
How to Live a Long and Contented Life

If you've been thinking about all the horrible things that can happen to you if you are overweight, I'm sure you've decided to become thin -- and to live a long and contented life.

You realize, of course, that like all other seemingly easy things, there's a catch to it. Yes, you're going to think yourself thin. But you're going to do a lot of other things in addition. Thinking is part of it -- a big part. But you've got to do a great deal more than just sit and think. Your telephone, the chair you're sitting in, the clothes you're wearing, these words you're reading -- they were all thoughts, first of all. But the thoughts were translated into action before they became material things. So your thoughts about getting thin, if you really want to be thin, will have to be translated into action, too -- and the result will be you -- the way you'd like to be.

You'll have to make yourself over! Your overweight condition has been caused by wrong thinking -- by a wrong way of life -- for you. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Rules That Can Help You Lose Weight

We would all like to be slim, young and good looking. I wish I could wave a magic wand and transform all of you into glamorous, radiant creatures. However, if you are overweight, I believe you can become comfortably thin, and look and feel younger and healthier -- and have a good chance to live longer, too -- if you will just put your mind to it.

There are millions of adults in America alone that weigh too much -- and would be better off if they didn't.

I'm taking it for granted that you weigh too much, or that someone in your life weighs too much. Otherwise, you would be pretty foolish to waste your time on this article.

I can make definite promises that you'll lose weight -- and look and feel better if you follow my rules.

If you want to lose weight, and be healthy and strong, my advice to you is: First study yourself; second, go to a good physician for a thorough examination; and third, follow this sensible eating plan.

Protein stimulates metabolism and is essential for cell maintenance and growth. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Irritable Bowel Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Eating Disorders 1: Bulimia Nervosa

One of the most unpleasant -- and dangerous -- ways of weight reduction is by expelling food from your stomach after it has been swallowed -- otherwise known as Bulimia Nervosa.

When you have Bulimia Nervosa, it's common to live in a world of secret shame and self-disgust. But you may feel trapped by this addiction-like relationship with food.

Bulimia is a type of eating disorder in which you're preoccupied with your weight and body shape, often judging yourself severely and harshly for perceived flaws. With bulimia, you engage in episodes of bingeing and purging, where you eat a large amount of food and then try to rid yourself of the extra calories by such unhealthy ways as self-induced vomiting or excessive exercise.

Bulimia is a serious, potentially life-threatening eating disorder. Because it's so intimately related to self-image -- and not just about food -- bulimia can be difficult to overcome. But effective bulimia treatment can help you feel better about yourself, adopt healthier eating patterns and reverse serious complications.

Symptoms

When you have bulimia, you regularly engage in episodes of binge eating followed by attempts to prevent weight gain. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise Bulimia Vomiting Purge
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Can Salt Help You Reduce Weight?

Experts believe that too much salt is one cause of obesity. A salt-restricted diet has proved successful in many cases of obesity. However, as with other weight reduction diets, this information must be taken with a pinch of salt -- for a diet calls for far more than just salt restriction.

Salt may not cause your body to gain or lose fat. And, more importantly, salt has no calories. High consumption of salt causes temporary weight gain because it causes your body to retain water. And, consumption of lower amounts of salt results in temporary weight loss because it causes your body to expel water.

Most importantly salt causes weight gain because high levels of salt in our diets generally come from calorie-dense low-fiber processed foods like fast food and restaurant meals. If you stick to a low salt diet, it consists of lower calorie, healthier foods associated with weight loss.

Does Sugar Cause Weight Gain?

When we eat, our body converts digestible carbohydrates into sugar, which is the main source of energy. Our blood sugar level affects our hunger and energy levels. It also determines whether we burn fat or store it, and gain weight or lose weight. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Being As Thin As A Model Is Not A Good Idea

The professional model is today's ideal, as far as figures are concerned. Before you accuse me of trying to turn all American men and women into professional models -- in size, anyhow -- I want to tell you that I don't want, expect or advise you to become this slender.

Psychologists and eating-disorder experts are worried about the same thing. They say the fashion industry has gone too far in pushing a dangerously thin image that women, and even very young girls, may try to emulate.

"We know seeing super-thin models can play a role in causing anorexia," says Nada Stotland, professor of psychiatry at Rush Medical College in Chicago and vice president of the American Psychiatric Association. Because many models and actresses are so thin, it makes anorexics think their emaciated bodies are normal, she says. "But these people look scary. They don't look normal."

The widespread concern that model thinness has progressed from willowy to wasted has reached a threshold as evidenced by the recent actions of fashion show organizers.

The Madrid fashion show in 2008 banned overly thin models, saying it wanted to project beauty and health. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise Bulimia Anorexia
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Why You Should Become Thin

Why should you get thin? You may know the answers as well as I do -- or you may not know all of them.

First of all, but far from the most important, is vanity. The average overweight person is awkward -- with 10, 20 or 50 superfluous pounds strapped around his or her body! The average overweight person does not look well in his -- or her -- clothes. You have to wear large sizes -- so the cut is not youthful -- and the result is a shapeless bag.

It's not just vanity that makes weight important -- it's health, most of all. Your weight has a definite bearing on how long you are likely to live. People who weigh too much have a far greater mortality rate than people of normal weight.

Have I frightened you? Well, that's what I've tried to do. In fact, I mentioned the very worst first of all, to jolt you into seeing the seriousness of having too much weight. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise Thin
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
What To Do To Lose Weight

People are fatter now than ever. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been tracking it, and the picture isn't pretty. Last year, only Colorado had an obesity prevalence of less than 20%. This is pretty shocking. Of note here is the fact that obesity is defined by CDC as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more. There is a lesser category called "overweight" that is somewhere between a healthy weight and being obese. Even being overweight can put the heart and cardiovascular system at risk, however.

A poll of 1,000 people randomly sampled from across the U.S. released by McClatchy in Washington showed that about 50% of those surveyed thought that obesity was either a minor problem or no problem at all for their families. Two-thirds of the respondents thought that they were at a healthy weight. Statistically, given the data from CDC, this isn't possible.

As a researcher and healthcare professional, this poll is troubling to me for a few reasons. First, it begins to show that many people are not aware of the true definitions of "overweight" or obesity. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Can One Call Obesity A Disease?

Is obesity a disease? This isn't as simple a question as it might appear, because the answer has a cascading effect in terms of implications. For example, if obesity were classified as a disease, it could take much of the stigma away from being severely overweight, make it easier to get treatment, could help provide insurance coverage for people grappling with weight problems -- and could even speed up the approval of new diet drugs.

However, for many of these positives there also are negatives. For example, if insurance companies were forced to cover people's efforts to reduce their weight, this could increase insurance premiums and the already skyrocketing cost of health care in the US. Opponents of classifying obesity as a disease say that it is just a risk factor, not a disease, and that such a formal shift in how it is viewed could actually divert resources from legitimate diseases.

Besides these issues, it is interesting to see how people respond to this question on a personal level. Opinions about this issue vary, and the debate is almost polarizing.

One person said, "Obesity is not a 'disease'. It is a product of confusion and misinformation. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Irritable Bowel Colonic Irrigation Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
The Weight of All Flesh

When are you going to begin losing weight? Don't get impatient about it! Just sit back and relax -- and learn about yourself. When you've learned the principles of sensible living for you, then you can begin to lose weight.

After all, you've probably been overweight for a long time. You're not going to lose weight suddenly. In fact, there is no way to lose a lot of weight at one time that is not dangerous to your health. Also, weight lost quickly, unless you understand the underlying reasons, comes back just as quickly. A firm, slender, healthy body and a youthful face -- aren't those things worth waiting for?

The best weight tables are those devised by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. These are based on numerous Medico-Actuarial studies of hundreds of thousands of insured men and women. Find your own height and weight by the simple method of standing up against a wall, and asking someone to take a ruler, put it on your head, and mark your height on the wall -- then measure the mark. When you've found your height on the tables, you'll have found your perfect weight. **End Summary** Topics: Health Weight Loss Slimming Detox Diet Exercise
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is a writer and publisher, passionate about helping people achieve and maintain good health and fitness.
Here it is! The Secret Key to Affiliate Money

Starting an online business can take time, especially if you don't know what you're doing or are trying to do it on your own. This is why online marketers use affiliate programs to earn more money and become successful in their internet business. Earning affiliate money can be a very successful way of generating a lot of revenue. Whether you are the owner of the main website selling the product or the owner of a secondary website, which directs visitors to the main page, there is a lot of money to be made. That is, of course, if you've had good training on how to be a successful affiliate.

An affiliate or associate is an individual that works with an owner of a website to help sell the owner's product. There are many ways this can be done. As an associate, you can develop a website or blogging page and put advertising materials promoting the product for the owner. Each time a customer checks out the advertisements on your webpage and it results in the sale of the product, you'll get a commission off the sale, which is known as affiliate money. **End Summary** Topics: affiliate money best affiliate programs become an affiliate top affiliate programs merchant
About the Author:
Anthony Churchill is an award winning writer and a regular contributor of rewarding articles and blogposts.
