Overwhelmed With Addiction Discover How To Overcome the Cravings

Someone who has never been addicted may have trouble comprehending drug and alcohol cravings. For the individual who is an alcoholic or drug addict life usually depends on getting and using the substance in which they are addicted to. To the addict nothing is more important not ones family, home, job or anything else. No one wants to be an addict but, for those who are addicted finding a way out of the trap is harder than meets the eye when drug and alcohol cravings exist. Whether the addictive substance is alcohol, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine or marijuana when the cravings are in full effect, stealing, lying and other non optimum actions are completely insignificant compared to the overwhelming need to satisfy the intense cravings to prevent sickness, pain and withdrawal. These feelings of sickness and pain are nothing more than recorded memories retained by the user to remind them of how torturous withdrawal can be. When a person consumes drugs and alcohol they retain a recorded memory of the experience, good or bad. **End Summary** Topics: drug addiction rehab alcohol abuse detoxification
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
Children of Addiction: Why Suicide

Suicide in adolescents is a major public health problem. According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) over 15,000 emergency department visits by adolescents aged 12-17 who attempted suicide in the year 2004 involved drugs. Of these attempts three quarters where drug related and were serious enough to merit the patient's admission to the same hospital or transfer to another health care facility. Pain medications were involved in about half of these suicide attempts while antidepressants or psychotherapeutic medications where involved in about 40 percent of these suicide attempts by adolescents who were admitted to the hospital. Now you might be asking yourself at this point how are these children getting access to these drugs and why so many of our children are attempting suicide at such a young age. The truth of the matter is substance abuse and addiction severely compromise or destroy the ability of the "parents" to provide a safe and nurturing home for their children. Most children who are abused or neglected by their parents will find their way somehow to drugs: whether it is on the street or from the medicine cabinet. **End Summary** Topics: suicide drug addiction drug rehab
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
The After Holiday Downside Of Drugs and Alcohol Abuse

Many people have a hard time getting through the holidays and tend to drink more alcohol and abuse drugs more than normal just to get through this time of the year. The holidays are often stressful for reasons unknown to the individual who can be trapped in past experiences which means the person is not tracking with present time. Sometimes a person is sort of thrown into the past and is actually reliving past experiences instead of being able to be in the present time situation. For the individual this means they don't know that this is happening to them and they don't understand why they are so unhappy since the holidays are supposed to be a happy time of year. The reason a person will turn to alcohol and drugs is to cover up the pain and the problems that they themselves are dealing with and probably don't even know why they are having these problems. So what happens with these individuals after the holidays are over? Do they just stop using and abusing alcohol and drugs or do they continue? **End Summary** Topics: Holidays drug addiction rehab addiction
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
What Is The Language Of Alcohol: Does Drunk Really Mean Drunk

The language of intoxication is remarkably different when it comes to men and women. There have been studies done by researchers at the department of psychological sciences at the University of Missouri, which report that tremendous variations occur depending on the amount of alcohol a person consumes as an individual and how the effects differ on different occasions. In these studies it was found that men tend to use more heavy intoxicated words such as "hammered" to describe their state of intoxication between moderate to heavy and are relatively more forceful in their tone. Women tend to use more moderate words such as "tipsy" to describe their level of intoxication of four drinks in a two hour period, which actually meets binge-drinking criteria for women but not men. Since women use euphemistic terms such as "tipsy" to describe their level of intoxication more so than men, women are potentially mislead and often feel as though they are capable of driving after drinking because they are "only tipsy". This is also similar to other gender differences in slang use such men sweat and women glow. The discrepancies between these objective and subjective effects can help the clinician assess tolerance and sensitivity. **End Summary** Topics: alcohol drug rehab addiction treatment
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
A Faster High: Methamphetamine

Like fast forwarding a movie the stages of progressive addiction and loss of function move much more quickly than other drugs when talking about methamphetamine addiction. It sometimes only takes months compared to decades to see the loss of function in emotional development, education, employment, relationships and parenting. The high of methamphetamine is stronger, faster and lasts longer making the onset of dependency more intense and rapid. Methamphetamine is relatively cheaper than other drugs making it more plentiful. It is also synthetic and can be made anywhere. The rise of addiction to Methamphetamine has soared over the years due to its powerful addiction level and its users are also becoming not only addicts but criminals at a faster rate than other addiction users. The crime rate of methamphetamine addicts as reported by law enforcement for violent crimes is 71.3 percent and 74.4 percent for property crime in 2006 and is still climbing. These crimes such as identity theft are an easy way for addicts to get money for their habit. **End Summary** Topics: Addiction rehab drug rehab drug rehab center
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
Millions Seek Self Help: Addiction Treatment Failure Possible Cause

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 5 million people sought self help groups to handle their addiction over the past year. While 1/3 of those people had previously attended specialty rehabilitation programs prior to seeking the self help avenue for reaching sobriety, 2/3 of the total decided on self help as the primary method of getting and staying clean.

In a recent post on Find Rehab NOW, the author goes over guidelines to find a good drug alcohol rehab center. As the author points out, “Addiction can be overcome if the proper steps are taken and a good program is selected. There are many types of rehab programs out there. Some honestly are only in it for the money while others are committed to doing everything possible to help people addicted lead productive and responsible drug free lives.” I believe it is this general concept that causes so much distrust in treatment in that the millions who have tried non-successful addiction treatment programs and failed will be less likely to trust in rehabilitation as a whole. **End Summary** Topics: addictin. rehab drug rehab
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
More “Controlled Substances” Gone Astray

In a recent article written by Rebecca Morton, A staff Writer in New Jersey in reporting results from a recent violence and vandalism report at the Freehold Regional High School District Board, drug use and abuse numbers evidently rose.

Based on their yearly report on violence and vandalism, the Freehold Regional High School reported increases in substance abuse, especially Marijuana and Prescription Drugs. The marijuana is no surprise as this drug has found a major market in our school systems for many years. What is not surprising but nonetheless even more disgusting, the youth using more and more prescription drugs, obviously non-medically.

It seems that Ritalin, Oxycontin, Zanax, Percocet or many other “controlled Substances” are not quite as controlled as we would hope they would be. When legally manufactured drugs from the pharmaceutical industry begin to exceed many of the previously predominate illegal drugs on our school campuses, we should critically examine what the phrase “controlled substance” really means.

As controlled substances, these drugs are supposed to be very stringently monitored from the manufacturing process all the way through their distribution cycle to the pharmacy and ultimately to the end user via a doctor’s prescription. **End Summary** Topics: addiction treatment drug rehab drug abuse rehab chemical addiction
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately. www.FindRehabNow.com is a drug referral service that helps locate the appropriate form of treatment for your unique situation.
Successfully Overcoming Addiction

There are many people within the United States that suffer from addiction and who are looking for a way to successfully overcome the addiction so that they can lead a happy, healthy, drug free life. When a person is lost in their addiction it is very hard for them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It seems that there is no way out. The person often feels trapped and is in a constant state of confusion. Since, drugs alter the mind and the body it is harder for an addict to see the effects that drugs are having on them. It is often the family members and friends of the individual who notice that something is wrong. At this point most people start looking for information on drug abuse and drug rehabilitation for their loved one. The road ahead is normally long and tiresome for everyone involved. This is a road that is taken everyday by families who are in need of help for a loved one. There is a lot of information about addiction recovery but, how does a person with no or little experience with addiction know what to look for in a program.
Drug Abuse by Teens: Parents Are Both Part of the Problem and Part of the Solution

A recent study from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) shows that many parents fail to take essential actions that prevent drug use or drinking by their teenaged children. At the same time, the study shows that parents who do take these actions have children with lower rates of drug or alcohol use, meaning that they can be part of the solution. The study is the annual Back to School Survey, published each year in August 2008.

The factors found to discourage substance abuse by teens were:
•	Being engaged in the teens’ day-to-day life
•	Relaxing with them
•	Frequent family dinners
•	Supervision, especially of time spent with friends on weeknights
•	Setting positive examples of healthy behavior.

On the other hand, neglect of these factors was found to coincide with greater drug use.

The study found that 46 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds typically leave home to hang out with friends on school nights, but only 14 percent of parents say their kids usually leave home on these nights. **End Summary** Topics: addiction treatment drug rehab narconon prescription drug abuse
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with and addiction to drugs or alcohol please seek help immediately in the form of a drug rehab . FindRehabNow.com is a rehab referral service that helps locate an apporpriate treatment option in your area.

Prescription Drugs in the Home are the Key to Abuse by Teens

While figures for some kinds of drug use among teens have dropped slightly over the last several years, prescription drug abuse shows no signs of letting up. Supporting this abuse is the ease with which our young people can lay their hands on prescription drugs to abuse, particularly prescription pain relievers, such as xanax and oxycontin.

A recent report from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University shows that one-third of teens who know prescription drug abusers say that these kids get their drugs from home. Another third say they can get these drugs from a friend or classmate. This means that our households are what are providing the drugs for our kids. Shouldn’t our homes be the safest place for our children not the most dangerous?

The annual survey of teen attitudes on substance abuse drew the conclusion that probably half of all prescription drugs being abused by teens are coming from someone’s home medicine chest.

And this ease of acquisition showed in the statistics on prescription drug abuse. By 2007, one in every twenty high school seniors had found and tried OxyContin, a powerful narcotic painkiller with a high, when abused, similar to heroin. **End Summary** Topics: addiction treatment drug rehab narconon prescription drug abuse
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction please seek help immediately by finding an approriate form of addiction treatment

The results of a national survey of teens and parents to identify attitudes about substance abuse revealed the shocking news that kids aged 12 to 17 years old have easier access to prescription pain killers and tranquilizers then they do beer. The survey was sponsored by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University,(C.A.S.A.). Joseph A. Califano, President of C.A.S.A. in the survey’s accompanying statements wrote, “For the first time this year, more teens told us that prescription drugs are easier to buy than beer. The percentage of teens saying prescription drugs are easiest to buy increased 46 percent over last year.”

The abundant supply of prescription drugs like Oxycotin, Percocet, Vicodin and Ritalin available to our youth 12 to 17 years old is outrageous. What is even more alarming is the fact that much of the prescription drugs teen are abusing is actually coming from their parent’s medicine cabinet.

According to the study, one-third of the teens who know a prescription drug abuser say that kids who abuse prescription drugs get them from home or the medicine cabinet or from parents. **End Summary** Topics: Drug Rehab Addiction Drugs
About the Author:
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction please get them help immediately by getting them into a drug rehab .

A Young Woman's Triumph over Addiction to Crystal Meth and Oxycontin

Dear Editor,

Addiction to drugs or alcohol is a terrible fate affecting more than 20 million people in this country. Maybe by telling my story, you can help me save others from the kind of desperation I experienced.

Three short years ago, I was smoking crystal meth and snorting OxyContin every day. I was completely hopeless and out of control. My life was spent dancing on a pole in a nightclub, just to be able to afford the next hit that I was going to take in the club’s bathroom.

Self-respect did not exist. Instead, it was replaced by a false sense of confidence that I exhibited to all those who came in contact with me. I hated my parents, my life, and myself. I thought that drugs helped me feel “normal.” I didn’t realize that the drugs just kept the more basic problems out of sight.

On October 9, 2005, I hit that "bottom" that you hear addicts talk about. That moment is as fresh for me as yesterday.

That moment came when I was all alone, sitting in a hospital emergency room. **End Summary** Topics: Addiction Rehab Oxycontin Drug Rehab Addiction Treatment
About the Author:
Contact Find Rehab Now for a free referral into treatment or call 866-331-3772 For the rehab ECF attended: Contact Narconon Arrowhead

Drug Overdoses Become the Second Leading Cause of Unintentional Injury Death in the U.S.

The drug addiction epidemic is taking over the United States. It is killing many people and it needs to have an end to it. The mortality rates from unintentional drug overdoses have been rising steadily since the early 70s, and in the last ten years, the number of these deaths has reached historic highs. Even the “black tar” heroin epidemic of the mid-70s and the crack cocaine peak in the 90s did not approach today’s numbers.

In 2005, the most recent year for which this data has been studied, 22,400 people died of drug overdoses. As a comparison, 17,000 people died from homicides that year, and only traffic crashes account for more deaths than overdoses. This means an overwhelming amount of people have died unnecessarily and this is something that is not displayed in the news. Many Americans are completely unaware of how the addiction epidemic is taking over the United States.

But it’s not heroin or cocaine that’s leading the list of fatal drugs. The top class of drug is prescription drugs such as opioid painkillers which were listed as the leading cause of death in 38 percent of the cases. **End Summary** Topics: Rehab Addiction Drug Rehab Addiction Treatment
About the Author:
Drug Rehab Referral Service.
Women At Risk For Addiction

Many Americans wrongly believe that addiction only, or at least primarily strikes the male population in great numbers. But according to the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health, over 7 million women are substance dependent. This is of course a huge number of Women. Even more alarming is the percentage of those women who won’t receive the help they need to overcome their addiction. 10% or less of those addicted will receive treatment for their dilemma.

Women who have fallen prey to drug and/or alcohol addiction will also be found to be more likely to suffer greater consequences associated with their drug and alcohol use including death. From disease related to alcohol consumption to suicide, women will on average sustain more negative effects from their addictive behaviors than men. This doesn’t mean men are not at risk. It only points out that there is a real substantial reason for women to be cautious of drug and alcohol use and abuse regardless of the commonly promoted male dominance in the area. **End Summary** Topics: addiction rehab drug rehab
About the Author:
For drug rehab assistance and rehab referral in general, contact us today.
Marijuana - Far From Being Harmless

The various proponents of marijuana legalization or use in medical treatment might have you believe that marijuana is a natural and harmless substance. This is promoted despite the fact that millions of families across the nation know all too well how negatively life changing marijuana addiction can be. “It got to where I didn’t even know him any more”, states Elisa wife of a chronic marijuana addict. “He just wanted to sit around and smoke pot all day and didn’t help with the family, our income, our kids or anything else”.

In sheer numbers, marijuana users beat out any other drug users. In 2006, nearly 15 million Americans 12 and older used the drug in the past month. For comparison, abusers of prescription drugs numbered 7 million and 2.4 million were cocaine users. The magnitude of use of this drug is astounding and so are the dollars the sales of this drug represent. This may be one reason for extreme legalization efforts since the income potential for selling marijuana is competitive with most of the strongest pharmaceutical lines on the market.

But the most dangerous change occurred in the potency of the marijuana being smuggled into the U.S. **End Summary** Topics: rehab marijuana addiction treatment
About the Author:
To find immediate help for someone who is having a problem with drugs or alcohol, contact Find Rehab NOW for free addiction consultation and referral helpline at 1-866-331-3772.
