The history of motoring in Staffordshire-00-3201

Tallent was originally formed shortly after the Second World War in 1948 and produced, amongst other things, cigarette cases, lipstick holders and cosmetic powder compacts. By 1955, the company had progressed to developing car accessories, and during the 1970s they were in full swing, supplying pressed metal manufacturing and working in conjunction with many top names in manufacturing. After a party celebrating its 50th anniversary, when Prime Minister Tony Blair attended along with 200 other guests, the company went through various mergers and joint ventures that have helped this motor industry giant steadily claim its place as one of the top manufacturing companies in the world.
However, the current financial climate has seen many problems arise for other top companies and even though Tallent is seemingly withstanding the gloomy economic slump, Bentley have not enjoyed the same success. In January 2009, its factory in Crewe that specialised in producing the firm’s Continental and Amage ranges was forced to lay dormant for seven weeks, leaving 3500 worker’s with the option of applying for voluntary redundancy or taking the more unusual route of ‘time banking’. **End Summary** Topics: car manufacturing company reliant staffordshire top bentley production history companies motor developing car motor industry takes pride
About the Author:
Burton Mail can help you look for Burton motors and Burton car dealerships in and around the Burton area.Read more on production here.

Things to do in Milton Keynes-00-3187

The move of Wimbledon Football Club (now MK Dons) to the town also created more interest and was a further bonus to the continuing growth that Milton Keynes is enjoying.

Here is a brief roundup of some of the main attractions and a few ideas on what visitors can enjoy on a trip to MK that are suitable for all of the family.

Parks Trust

With offices located at the cricket pavilion in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes Parks Trust is a charitable body that took control of most of the town’s green areas in April 1992 and manages the care of 4500 acres of park and woodland in Milton Keynes. The town was built with nature in mind and instead of trampling the vegetation to make way for houses, roads and shops, new constructions are built amongst lush green areas.

Parks

Also known as the ‘city of trees’, Milton Keynes is home to a massive 20 million trees and they are found in a variety of environs from ancient woodlands and river floodplains to the most central park of all: Campbell Park. **End Summary** Topics: park milton keynes keynes milton theatre mk town lake located indoor entertainment new visitors campbell park valley park gallery
About the Author:
MKWeb keeps you informed of what's on in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area, including a guide of things to do in milton keynes .I highly recommend visiting here for more info about located

The History of TV Listings-00-3184

TV listings first graced the British population with their presence in the Radio Times on 2 November 1936 and the US followed suit on 3 April 1953, a trend that was to grow and grow in both popularity and success. Listings were briefly scuppered during the Second World War when television was cancelled but came back with a vengeance afterwards with more pages. Then, after the introduction of the first ITV commercial channel in September 1955, TV Times was released.

The basic function of a TV listing is to give viewers the dates, times and channels of programmes that will be shown throughout the day, week and sometimes even by the month. The benefits of having a TV listing guide are immense as it allows viewers to plan their days around their favourite programmes so that we should never forget what is on, when and on which channel. Genius!

It may sound like a simple concept but guides have never been so in-depth and complex as they are today, with not only times, channels and days supplied but whole plot lines exposed as well as briefer story summaries for individual episodes being common place. **End Summary** Topics: tv listings times tv listings programmes radio listing channels guides day radio times tv listing channel days viewers publications
About the Author:
With Bedfordshire on Sunday you can check TV listings for today and the week ahead.
The History of Soap Operas-00-3144

The US enjoyed the glossier versions of soap land like Dallas and Dynasty while Britain introduced new programmes like Brookside and EastEnders in the 1980s. Australia joined in to bring us the daily action in Ramsey Street with Neighbours and Summerbay’s very own Home and Away. The Australian offerings mainly appealed to a young audience with teenagers watching the programmes religiously. Taking heed of the success down under, the UK brought in their own versions of teenage friendly soaps with Hollyoaks rating the most popular.

This change of target audience to include a wider range has made soaps even more popular and yet many of them will feature similar storylines and characters. With the ratings war as tough as it is in the UK, many of the most watched soaps push the limits further and further to gain more viewers than the other with Coronation Street and Eastenders often going head to head for the best soap awards. A British soap opera will run week in, week out with many making special Christmas episodes that will last longer than usual and feature a daring storyline. **End Summary** Topics: soap soaps storylines uk street world feature popular radio coronation street soap operas operas series characters eastenders british
About the Author:
The Hertfordshire Mercury keeps you up-to-date with all the latest TV listings and soap news .

Making a commitment – home life and beyond-00-3023

Recognizing each other's strengths and finding roles and responsibilities to suit can be the key to success. But be aware that things won’t remain the same over the course of your life together. Be prepared to renegotiate as circumstances and needs change.
Reaching a comfortable compromise means understanding what each of you is giving and what each of you is taking. When you look at the different chores needed to keep your home life running smoothly, try to sort them by the time taken and the frequency – gardening may take time but not be done on a daily basis whereas some chores need to be done every day.
Time together and apart
When a couple first fall in love they tend to spend as much time together as possible, but after a while it is natural to want to have “me” time, time with friends or just to be on your own. ‘Changes and Stages of Relationships’ will help you share your expectations of time you will spend together and apart. **End Summary** Topics: family life partner life together extended getting expectations finding married think things need important new relationships families
About the Author:
Charity, Couple Connection helps parents to work it out by offering relationship support and relationship advice for families and couples.

Dads matter – celebrate Father’s Day-00-3010

...and many people feel that it is largely an invention to make money for the greetings card industry. According to greetings card makers Hallmark, Father’s Day is the fifth-largest card-sending holiday(1). But generally speaking dads themselves don’t place as much importance on celebrating Father’s Day as mums do on acknowledging Mother’s Day.
Father’s Day may still take second place to Mother’s Day but this Sunday might provide a good excuse to show your partner that you appreciate him - as a partner and as a father.
Today’s dads are much more involved with family life and there has been a boom in the number of dads working flexibly. Between 2001 and 2005 the number of new dads on flexible time leapt from 11 per cent to 31 per cent. Dads spend more time with their children than they did in the recent past. Dads also want to spend more time being with their children and supporting their partner. According to a study, 82 per cent of full-time working men said they want to, compared with 70 per cent in 1989(2).
Did you know ... **End Summary** Topics: dads day children <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/father"s+day" rel="tag">father"s day partner <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/father"s" rel="tag">father"s per cent father per dad involved biological father lives biological mother"s fami
About the Author:
Couple connection are a charity which provide relationship support and relationship advice for couples and families.

Make them an offer they can’t refuse: How to tap into the USA market-00-1567

Although the rapidly growing medical tourism industry is viewed as near recession proof, in these tough economic times international providers must be careful on how they target citizens of the USA. The critical factors for US international patients are cost, quality, safety, location and language. Any offering must meet, and some would say exceed, the US medical tourists expectations in all of these areas to truly be considered a viable medical tourism provider. Providers must figure out a way to combine all of these aspects when targeting medical tourists from the USA.

Put simply, the most significant reason US citizens travel abroad for healthcare is money. Procedures in countries outside of the USA can be significantly cheaper than the domestic option, sometimes at just a fraction of the cost of the same procedure in the USA. A hip replacement in the USA for example could cost up to $43,000, whereas the same treatment in India could cost $9,000. This dramatic price difference is particularly attractive to the estimated 47 million US citizens who are currently uninsured. **End Summary** Topics: citizens medical providers healthcare usa international tourists medical tourists medical tourism tourism cost quality surgery people
About the Author:
Search and compare your surgery abroad for cosmetic surgery, eye surgery, dental surgery, plastic surgery, breast surgery, orthopedic surgery & many more medical tourism procedures overseas.

Can I wall mount my flat screen?-00-1556

However, the prospect of mounting an expensive piece of kit to a wall can be daunting: Is the wall strong enough to carry the weight of my screen? What kind of fixings can be attached to the back of my screen? Is my wall strong enough to securely attach a screen to? Some of these questions are answered here as a first step to understanding whether you can wall mount your screen safely and with confidence.

First of all find out whether your screen is VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) compliant. This means that the screen has holes in the right places for standard screen mounts or brackets. Check the number that appears after the letters “VESA” corresponds with your wall mount before making a purchase.
Hertfordshire Hamilton-00-1477

Even from an early age Hamilton showed his inherent natural talent at racing cars. Aged just six, he was already racing and beating adults in remote-control car championships. Just two years later, this precocious Hertfordshire talent made the inevitable jump to karting at the Rye House Kart Circuit in Hoddesdon.

Hamilton made what was to become a customary instant impact by quickly amassing race victories and Cadet Class Championships. However, the biggest impression he shortly made was on one of F1’s then top dogs.

Still only ten-years-old, this confident youngster approached the Mclaren F1 team boss Ron Dennis at a race meeting to get his autograph, but also took the opportunity to boldly declare his future intentions: “Hi. I'm Lewis Hamilton. I won the British Championship and one day I want to be racing your cars." A stunned Dennis responded with: “Phone me in nine years, we'll sort something out then." It was the start of a hugely successful racing relationship.

In fact, it took just three years for Dennis to call Hamilton himself. By this point, the mercurial talent had won an additional Super One series on top of his second British championship. **End Summary** Topics: hamilton racing f1 dennis mclaren race years champion first season made championship tewin point hertfordshire world champion racing
About the Author:
Hertfordshire Mercury brings you all the latest news and sports information for the area.

The task they face is to race 1,877 miles through the Australian Outback, from Darwin down to Adelaide, using cutting-edge environmentally-friendly technology that will hopefully make the jump to the next generation of consumer-focussed electric cars.

The Cambridge University Eco Racing (CUER) team have created a car, or technically speaking a craft, codenamed Bethany, which can cruise at 60 mph using, incredibly, the same amount of power as a hand-held hairdryer - about 1500 watts.

The independent student team, sponsored by Cambridge Precision and HP, hope to give fans something to cheer about by securing the UK’s best ever finish in the 3000km endurance race. However, competition will be stiff as some of the rival corporate teams they will be facing have budgets of over £1 million at their disposal.

The CUER team have managed to design a craft that weighs just 160kg and sports the world’s highest efficiency silicon solar cells. In layman’s terms the car uses up to 50 times less power than a normal petrol car. In fact, if conditions are suitable the craft could effectively drive forever without stopping. **End Summary** Topics: team car cambridge race craft the cuer team vehicle cuer university japan cambridge university three speed electric using australian
About the Author:
Cambridge News can assist with enquiries about Cambridge motors including reviews of new cars and a directory of used cars .

If you build it they will come: Emerging nations in medical tourism-00-1457

While traditional destinations such as Eastern Europe, South-East Asia and South America have cornered the medical tourism market for at least the past decade, the increasing size and buying power of the medical tourist segment is enticing governments, corporates and private medical practices to invest in their domestic tourism trade, and thus the emergence of previously unthought-of medical tourism destinations.
A key variable in this phenomenon is that while overall global spending on healthcare has increased dramatically as investors realise the potential of the healthcare demand, this is however particularly more evident in emerging markets. Emerging nations, such as those in Africa where the population is largely debt free and with increasing wages, are seeing their Governments faced with increasing demand for services and as a result have turned to the private sector to fulfil these needs. This of course is opening the doors for corporate infrastructure and high standards of care.
The African continent is a prime example of an emerging medical tourism destination, with the health tourism sector truly evolving to offer a unique tourism destination with high standard medical care. **End Summary** Topics: medical tourism medical tourism kenya destination destinations tourism destination establishing africa nations emerging standard medical
About the Author:
Yoursugeryabroad.com provides information guides on medical tourism and surgery abroad .
Government’s broadband tax likely to cause more problems than it solves-00-1454

The answer is that we will be taxed to pay for it. Ben Bradshaw the Culture Secretary who introduced the Digital Britain Report, has announced that a broadband tax will be applied to all home phone lines in the UK to ensure “maximum next generation broadband coverage”.
The report proposes a 50p-a-month tax on all home phone lines, with the £175m per year it raises given to an independent “Next Generation Fund” that would provide subsidies for operators to deliver super-fast (fibre optic) broadband to areas where it would not normally be commercially viable.
Virgin Media already have a fibre optic broadband network which covers approximately 50% of UK homes. And BT has committed to invest £1.5bn in a fibre optic broadband network that will cover 40% of the country by 2012. The problem is that BT’s footprint would be very similar to Virgin Media’s (being focused on urban areas), so it doesn’t really help the other 40 or so percent of the population.
But following the government’s announcement of the broadband tax, BT is now indicating that they could extend their fibre-optic broadband network to 90% of the population, in keeping with the government’s objectives. **End Summary** Topics: broadband fibre fibre optic optic optic broadband fibre optic broadband network uk broadband network bt digital bt"s report government
About the Author:
Simplifydigital.co.uk offers a unique service in the UK to Compare Broadband .

Bedford was a leading international truck manufacturer with substantial export sales of light medium and heavy trucks throughout the world. It was GM Europe's most profitable venture for several years.

The large Vauxhall Motors factory; the head office of Vauxhall Motors is still situated in the town. Car production at the plant began in 1905 – it was the largest car plant in the United Kingdom.

Prior to 1925 General Motors assembled in Brazilian trucks manufactured at their Canadian works. This enabled them to import vehicles into Britain under Imperial Preference, which favoured products from the British Empire as far as import duties were concerned. Such trucks were marketed as "British Chevrolet". After GM took ownership of Vauxhall Motors production was transferred from Hendon to Luton, Vauxhall's headquarters, production commencing there in 1929.

A large part of Bedford's original success in breaking into the UK and British Empire markets lay in the OHV 6 cylinder Chevrolet engine, now known as Chevrolet Stove Bolt 6 well ahead of its time this smooth running inline 6 cylinder engine was to form the basis of Bedford and Vauxhall petrol engines almost until the marque ceased building trucks and buses. **End Summary** Topics: vauxhall british bedford trucks motors production vehicles large vauxhall motors town chevrolet headquarters plant factory 6 car
About the Author:
If you would like to buy or, are looking to sell a vehicle visit Beford Motors where you can look at local vehicles or advertise your own.
Bed and Breakfasts or should that be B&Bs?-00-1401

Many people would happily refer to B&Bs as a British institution but before we begin it would be useful to clarify what is a Bed and Breakfast? When trying to envisage a “Bed and Breakfast” all sorts of images can be conjured up; from the wayward traveller looking for a warm bed for the night before continuing his travels in the morning, to those looking for a little home from home luxury. Wikipedia provides the following definition “A bed and breakfast (or B&B) is a small lodging establishment that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast, but usually does not offer other meals.”
As a large and established industry Bed and Breakfasts make a significant and valuable contribution to the UK economy, The Bed and Breakfast Association states that “£1.7 billion is spent staying at B&Bs by just UK residents alone (ie excluding incoming tourists).” One English region which has a thriving Bed and Breakfast community is Milton Keynes, with a huge number of B&Bs of varying styles and prices to suit every traveller.
Bed and breakfast establishments have been transformed over the last few decades. **End Summary** Topics: bed breakfast bed breakfast <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/"bed" rel="tag">"bed <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/breakfast"" rel="tag">breakfast" looking specific bbs search b&b milton "bed breakfast" breakfast milton bed breakfas
About the Author:
Use the MKWeb Accommodation Guide to find accommodation in Milton Keynes including Bed and Breakfasts in Milton Keynes .

Burton - how it became the place it is today-00-1388

..."a comen passage to and fro many countries to the grett releff and comfort of travellyng people (sic)", according to the abbot.
Burton was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1878. The incorporated area was split between the counties of Staffordshire and Derbyshire - the Local Government Act 1888 incorporated the entirety of the borough in Staffordshire, including the Derbyshire parishes of Stapenhill and Winshill. It became a county borough in 1901, having reached the 50,000 population required. However, it never substantially exceeded the population of 50,000, and at a population of 50,201 in the 1971 census was the smallest county borough in England after Canterbury. The population total has changed little in the time since with the town having a population of 54,348 according to the 2001 census.
The town, which lies within the National Forest, became entirely parished on April 1, 2003, when the following parishes were created Anglesey, Branston, Brizlincote, Burton, Horninglow & Eton, Shobnall, Stapenhill, Winshill.
Burton is the administrative centre for the borough of East Staffordshire and forms part of Burton (UK Parliament constituency). **End Summary** Topics: burton borough centre town trent population staffordshire football having river museum river trent burtons incorporated shopping club
About the Author:
Burton Mail bringing you the lastest Burton news and Burton sport from in and around Burton-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
The 5 foot 8 inch tall model enjoyed making fashion statements as a teenager with her shaved head and self confessed eye for style. Deyn still stands out from the crowd, an important commodity in the fashion world, with her punk hair and madcap dress sense.

Born as Laura Hollins, she changed her name after speaking with a numerology expert and family friend about how to grab positive attention with name spellings, in order to further her budding modelling career. Deyn was born on February 16th 1983 and has three sisters but the famous fashionista is the only one who successfully broke the modelling scene. Her fashion sense is off the wall and her natural personality gives her an edge in the competitive modelling industry and Deyn can regularly be spotted enjoying the party lifestyle with an array of famous friends.

Deyn is well known in the UK and the US due to her unique fashion sense and wacky styles that are worthy of pop pal, Peaches Geldof, with brightly coloured knee high socks becoming her trademark. The blonde model is a regular on the catwalk and her blue eyes mixed with her quirky look has appealed to worldwide audiences. **End Summary** Topics: deyn fashion model sense outfits name fashion sense hair modelling music famous world new across hand unique leggy model looks
About the Author:
The aim of UNIQLO UK is to continuously provide fashionable, high quality, basic casual wear at the lowest prices in the market.

Medical tourism is an industry experiencing rapid growth and development worldwide. According to Deloitte, the major international accounting and consulting firm, throughout 2007 over one million American, British and Canadian patients undertook surgery abroad and this figure is predicted to rise beyond 15 million by 2017. Deloitte also reported that with over 47 million people in the US (2006) being uninsured and not able to receive state-funded domestic medical surgery and treatment, an estimated six million of these will travel for surgery abroad by 2010.

Commonwealth nations are already heavily involved within this advancing industry – major existing medical tourism destinations include South Africa, India, Singapore, Malaysia (where according to Deloitte the number of foreign patients tripled between 2001 to 2006, reaching nearly 300,000), Malta and New Zealand to name but a few, while numerous Commonwealth nations within the Caribbean, Africa and Asia have started to consider the potential for promoting international surgery abroad within their borders. **End Summary** Topics: surgery medical nations tourism commonwealth abroad medical tourism surgery abroad destinations international commonwealth nations travel
About the Author:
Yoursurgeryabroad.com offers surgery abroad and medical tourism guides for anyone looking to compare and contact international cosmetic surgery, eye surgery, dental surgery and orthopedic surgery clinics and hospitals across Asia, South America, Central America, North America, Africa and Europe

Are you wasting money on your home phone calls?-00-1274

But it is the humble home phone line that often gets overlooked, particularly as we all rely increasingly on mobiles for the majority of our calls. Indeed, recent research shows that a third of households have not changed their home phone provider in over 5 years. The net result is that the majority of households are sitting on a big potential savings without even knowing it.
Home phone costs consist of the line rental (paid monthly) and the cost of the call plan on top. There is not much variation in the cost of line rental, which varies from £10.50 to £11.25 per month depending on your home phone supplier. But there is a huge potential difference in the cost of the calls depending on which call plan you choose from which supplier, relative to where you make the majority of your calls.
Identifying the exact potential cost saving for a household is complex as it is dependent on the household’s unique pattern of calls. So for simplicity we have grouped households into categories to determine a likely potential cost saving. **End Summary** Topics: per calls month per month plan daytime phone cost free daytime calls per minute line family mobiles home minute calls mobiles
About the Author:
Simplifydigital.co.uk offers a unique service in the UK, providing a free and impartial consultation for anyone looking to save money and compare home phone deals and compare broadband .

Flat screen technology for computer users-00-1226

How much difference is there between the various technologies of screens now available? And when it comes specifically to computer use is there one that is more fit for purpose than the others? It would seem so, but the technology that drives the screen is not the only important issue to be aware of when it comes to choice of computer screens and their use.

We tend to assume a technology that supersedes another is by definition superior, but in the case of screen technology this is not the whole story. CRT screens have a very high contrast ration 20,000:1 or greater; this is much higher than modern LCDs or plasma displays. It was less the technology than the size of traditional CRT screens that made them redundant.

LCD is said to be the most appropriate technology on the market for computer use and gaming because it displays static images better and with full colour detail, no flicker and no screen burn-in. Moreover the number of pixels per square inch is typically higher than other display technologies. **End Summary** Topics: screen technology health screens vdu computer enable technologies way comes crt screens health safety contrast screen technology users
About the Author:
Colebrook Bosson Saunders are designers, manufacturers and worldwide distributors of award-winning ergonomic office furniture accessories . and launched the market’s very first monitor arm .

Burton’s Beer Brewing History-00-1212

It is the home of Marmite, as well as the place where Branston Pickle was first created.

However, many would argue that Burton’s position during the 18th and 19th centuries as the beer brewing capital of the world makes the previous two creations pale into insignificance.

Local history shows that Burton helped shape the drinking habits of not just the British Isles, but places as far flung as Prussia and India. At its peak in 1890, 32 breweries in the area were producing three million barrels of ale a year, while employing more than 8,000 workers.

Of all the beer that was being sold in Britain, 25 per cent came from Burton. In order to link the breweries with their distribution partners, 87 miles of railway track was laid in the town to support the 25 ale trains which left Burton every day. At this point there were 32 level crossings dotted around the town.

And the building of rail links between Burton and the ports in Liverpool and Hull opened up new opportunities to export across the world to the outer reaches of the British Empire. **End Summary** Topics: burton beer ale breweries world century <a href="http://www.articlesnatch.com/topic/burton"s" rel="tag">burton"s helped shape 20th century beer brewing decline decline breweries 20th british burton"
About the Author:
Burton Mail bringing you all the latest local news and Sport for East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire areas.

Archaeological Sites in Hertfordshire-00-1191

After the Norman Conquest in 1066, Hertfordshire began a period of extremely rapid population growth that led to the creation of many archaeological sites that have stood the test of time and enriched the area’s history. Arguably the most important are the examples of the earth and timber built castles –traditionally referred to as ‘motte and baileys’. Renowned for their sturdy defensive fortifications, these castles were perfectly designed for repelling enemy attacks.

The most visually stunning is Hertford Castle, completed in 1174, after full-scale reconstruction during the rule of Richard I. Spanning centuries, the castle has a rich and intriguing history, and, nowadays, the grounds have been converted into public gardens and the castle itself acts as the offices of the town council.

Undoubtedly a little-known fact about Hertfordshire is that it contains over 200 ‘moated sites’. These constructions were built in the 12th and 13th centuries and are rectangular water-filled moats that surrounded the farms and manors of the affluent. As these moats are too small and narrow to have been used for defensive purposes, the presence of a moat was merely a sign of the person’s great wealth and success. **End Summary** Topics: hertfordshire history castle black death death black church moats county medieval local history "moated sites" important examples sit
About the Author:
Visit Hertfordshire News for the number one site for all local news and to be able to keep up to date on Hertfordshire Business News .

Now in its 800th year, the university has a long and proud history of educating and nurturing some of the great intellectuals who went on to leave their mark on fields such as politics, science and literature. Nevertheless, in today’s fame-obsessed world many have achieved adulation and stardom across the globe and this article will take a whistle-stop tour of Cambridge University’s celebrity alumni.

First under the spotlight is a certain Sacha Baron Cohen, creator and performer of the controversial comedy personalities Ali G, Borat and Bruno. He graduated from Christ’s College where he read History and wrote his thesis on the Jewish involvement on the American Civil Rights Movement. After graduating, Cohen dabbled with minor TV roles as well as fashion modelling before striking fame on The Eleven O’Clock Show on Channel 4 - first aired in 1998.

Only two years later, Cohen landed his own TV show, Da Ali G Show which won the BAFTA for Best Comedy in 2001. **End Summary** Topics: university cohen world film celebrity ali g enjoying won cambridge g tv ali show comedy borat bruno student drama mummy returns
About the Author:
For up to date news and events visit Cambridge News and for all of the latest sport from Cambridge .

Creation of the MK Dons-00-842

The inspiration behind the idea was music mogul and town resident Pete Winkelman. His vision was to build a stadium complex that would host music concerts and other events but, most crucially of all, a football team that would give the people of Milton Keynes something to support with pride.

And so Winkelman set about making his dream a reality and embarked on a project that had never been undertaken quite so radically before – trying to persuade a struggling football team to uproot and relocate to a new home. The basic concept of this idea caused enough controversy in itself as the thought of a club casting off its history, fan base and tradition for pastures new was a concept English sport had not encountered, let alone football.

Nevertheless, talks were instigated with Barnet, Luton Town and Queens Park Rangers in a bid to convince them that their footballing futures lay in Milton Keynes. These negotiations were unsuccessful but Winkelman later contacted Charles Koppel, chairman of then Wimbledon FC, who was already considering finding a new home for his team. **End Summary** Topics: winkelman milton team keynes home football milton keynes club season new home football team wimbledon fc idea dons milton keynes dons
About the Author:
MKWeb is now in its 9th year and continues to grow and develop as the definitive guide to Milton Keynes and Milton Keynes Business Directory .

Planning your life together means thinking about money matters - how much you will have to live on, where you will live, how much you can save and whether you need to borrow money. It is never as simple as pooling everything you earn and dividing up the bills. Sorting out ‘my’ money from ‘our’ money is a really common issue for couples and once you have children decisions about money often become even more charged.
But often it is our feelings about control, independence and commitment that are really behind those arguments about money.
Often couples find they have different attitudes towards money. Each partner’s attitude will be unique as it will have been shaped by the values they were brought up with, various life experiences and how much money they earn.
One of the hardest parts of living together as a couple is how you manage your money together whilst holding on to some independence and freedom. For example one of you may have a ‘live for today’ attitude, and want to spend every spare penny on the things that make you happy. Whereas your partner may see saving as being very important. **End Summary** Topics: money spend together couples partner really penny everything arguing spends money really bills attitude issue budget independence
About the Author:
Over the last 35 years One Plus One has been investigating what makes couple relationships work or fall apart.
Friends and Family – Family Matters-00-835

For many couples this isn't a problem at least not at the beginning of the relationship but when children come along difficulties with partners' families often crop up.
Difficult decisions have to be made about parenting and a competition between 'my family' and 'your family' can arise. Often each of you wants to raise the children in the same way as you were brought you up.
It is important to remember that grandparents can be a support to you and your children. Research shows that most children view their grandparents as fun companions, and many children say they confide in their grandparents when they are worried. Each week a quarter of families in the UK use a grandparent to provide child care.
If you feel that your partner’s parents interfere it is worth remembering that this is just a way of showing they care. Often it helps to try to focus on what you do like about them rather than the things or ideas you find difficult.
If this doesn’t help it is important that you and your partner show a united front. **End Summary** Topics: friends partner children relationship interests others people family part way grandparents partners made balance difficult
About the Author:
Over the last 35 years One Plus One has been investigating what makes couple relationships work or fall apart.
