Adult Orthodontics Can Help Transform Your Smile at Any Age

Many adults are not happy with their smiles, and more and more of them are doing something about it. The popularity of adult orthodontics has increased over the last decade. The growth continues as new products and treatment options become available. What you'll find is that there are a number of opportunities for adults to enhance the straightness and beauty of their smiles.

When the only option was wire braces, some adults were hesitant to participate. In addition to having an obvious impact on their looks, some adults worried that they would not have time for many follow-up appointments required. With the introduction of Invisalign® and other quick braces or invisible braces, adults had another option for fixing their smiles. Of course, in addition to those who choose Invisalign® and other quick braces or invisible braces, many more adults still opt for traditional wire braces. For some, the benefits of adult orthodontics outweigh any inconvenience.

In addition to the aesthetic benefits, and the boost in self-esteem that comes with that, there are potential health benefits as well. Teeth that are crowded or crooked are often more difficult to keep clean. **End Summary** Topics: adult orthodontics candidates cost benefits invisalign wire braces health concerns
About the Author:
Considering Invisalign or another form of adult orthodontics? If you are considering this dental care treatment, you likely have a number of concerns about what it entails. The list of frequently asked questions below will help address a number of potential worries one may have.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin cosmetic shells that can hide stained teeth, crooked teeth, and teeth that have been chipped or damaged. Instead of the using crown’s to encase a natural tooth, veneers are installed on the front. A dentist will prepare a tooth’s surface to effectively receive a joining compound, and then the porcelain veneer shell is bonded to the outside of the healthy tooth.

Dental Crowns FAQs – Learn More About Porcelain Dental Crown Options

Crowns are able to improve the smile, restore the functional balance of the teeth, and improve general oral health. Dental crowns are able to restore the function of damage, missing, or decayed teeth. Below we explore some of the most frequently asked questions about crowns.

What is the purpose of putting a crown on a tooth?

One of the primary purposes of a dental crown is to restore the function of a damaged or broken tooth. Without restoration a damaged tooth will only continue to deteriorate, and increase the risk of infection not only to the gums, but to other teeth also. By crowning the tooth, it is made stronger, reducing the possibility of damage to other surrounding teeth, and gums.

Will my insurance pay for a dental crown?

If the crown is being installed for the purpose of restoration most dental insurance policies will pay for part, or most of the expense. If the crown is for cosmetic purposes only insurance may not pay for the procedure at all. It is best to check your individual policy to be certain which coverage is in place regarding dental crowns. **End Summary** Topics: dental crowns frequently asked questions broken tooth missing tooth dental implant dental bridge
About the Author:
Some cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments used in smile makeovers include porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, dental bonding, dental crowns , and dental implants .
Breast Lift Surgery Information: Questions from Actual Patients

State of the art technology has progressed to the point that cosmetic surgery is no longer something to dread or be feared. Thousands upon thousands of women each year choose to undergo breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, using either breast implants, or simple series of incisions. Both methods have their plus and minus balance points, and as a result, many women have a lot of unanswered questions. Here, we address the most frequently asked questions concerning breast lift surgery.

I’m in my thirties and the mother of three children. I noticed after my last child stopped breastfeeding that my breasts were sagging and full of stretch marks. My question is really twofold: First, am I too young for this type of surgery? I hope not because I believe it would really help me. Secondly, will I be able to breastfeed if I have another child?

What well-thought out and very valid questions you’ve presented. First, although young adults are cautioned to reconsider, you are in the age group that benefits most from this cosmetic surgical procedure. Many women who have given birth to multiple children and have breastfed have the same question. **End Summary** Topics: breast lift surgery mastopexy frequently asked questions cosmetic surgery silicone implants saline implants elective procedure
About the Author:
Plastic surgery performed by an experienced professional can be a life-changing experience.
Silicone Breast Implants - General and Basic Cosmetic Surgery Info

Not very long ago, tons of horror stories about silicone breast implants were found on the news. The stories told of women whose implants had leaked or burst, causing silicone to leak into their bodies and making the women very ill. This has caused many women to mistrust silicone breast implants and to believe that they would be bad for them. But in reality, the new silicone implants put in by plastic surgeons during a breast augmentation are a great option for those who are looking for a breast augmentation.

When the first silicone implants were created, they were made with two sections that were glued together. This is what kept the silicone inside of the implant and outside of the bloodstream. This gluing method, however, lead to tears and leaks and were ultimately not a good idea. So in the 1970s, manufacturers created shells that were thinner so they could try to fix the scar issue that the previous implants had caused. Unfortunately, these implants broke after only 10 years of being inside of a woman, causing the silicone leak and once again causing serious health issues to the women who had undergone the surgery. **End Summary** Topics: silicone breast implants breast augmentation plastic surgeon memorygel pros and cons
About the Author:
A plastic surgeon can help you learn more about the latest advances in plastic surgery .
Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Having a Facelift

Many people, both male and female, are taking advantage of modern technology and the exponential leaps and bounds made in the field of cosmetic surgery; and they’re asking smart, pointed questions. Many see the advantages in the youthful appearance, the uplifting self-esteem, and the overall feeling of self-improvement that having a facelift brings. If Gene Simmons from the rock group KISS can have a facelift, you know you can too.

On that note, many people have questions concerning the safety of the procedure, what to expect, the healing and recovery time involved as well as the costs. Let’s address some of those frequently asked questions here.

I’m really considering having a rhytidectomy (facelift) and I’m wondering who would be considered a good candidate for this procedure. I’m well into my forties and just don’t heal like I used to.

Thank you for writing! Your question is a good, solid question that many people have. You say you’re in your forties. You’re the perfect age to have this type of cosmetic surgery. A good candidate for this procedure is between ages thirty and seventy, with no significant medical problems. **End Summary** Topics: facelift frequently asked questions good candidate cosmetic surgery rhytidectomy facial surgery cosmetic surgeon
About the Author:
If you are interested in a procedure such as facelift surgery or BOTOX treatment , it’s important to research each treatment.
The Basics of Restylane® Injections - Info on Non-Surgical Aesthetic Enhancements

Restylane® is a clear gel that is injected into wrinkles and acts as a filler, smoothing out even very deep wrinkles such as those on the forehead or those that run between the nose and the mouth called nasolabial folds. Restylane® can effectively treat even wrinkles that are not helped by Botox or chemical peels. The filler can also be used to give extra fullness or enhanced shape to the lips.

One unique feature of Restylane® is that the results can be removed if a patient is not happy with them. The same cannot be said for all fillers. It is important to seek out a doctor that has a lot of experience working with Restylane. Be sure to look through the doctor’s portfolio of other patients that have had Restylane® injections at his hands.

Because it is not required that a doctor perform this procedure, it is not uncommon for nurses or even “cosmetic technicians” to provide the treatment. Since the quality of the results depend largely on the skill of the person who injects the filler, it is a good idea to request that your procedure be performed by a doctor. **End Summary** Topics: restylane injections wrinkles risks benefits reversible frequency cost results filler
About the Author:
For Restylane treatments in London or cosmetic dentistry in London , visit

Invisalign® - Who is an ideal candidate for this dental care and orthodontic treatment option?

Many teenagers get braces, almost as a rite of passage, but it is not always an easy road. Even though they are common, there is a stigma associated with them that can cause social awkwardness and embarrassment. Unlike in the past, now teens have another option with Invisalign®. It is not metal or even clear braces on the teeth, but rather a series of clear plastic custom-made “aligners” that you put over your teeth. You take them out to eat and brush your teeth or for a special occasion like prom.

In addition to teenagers, adults often decide that they want to have their crooked teeth or overbite corrected. Perhaps they did not have braces at all when they were younger or maybe they did but their teeth have shifted over time to make gaps or perhaps their teeth have crowded together. Even more so than teens, adults do not want to be subjected to a mouth full of metal in order to have straight teeth.

For that reason, Invisalign® is a great option for adults. **End Summary** Topics: invisalign braces teeth issues aligners overbites underbites
About the Author:
Teens looking for an orthodontist in London who offers invisible braces in the UK should visit Harley Street Dental Studio, offering cosmetic dentistry to Central London .

Dental Implants - General Cosmetic Dentistry and Implant Dentistry Information

It is very easy to become self-conscious when you have lost a tooth, especially when it becomes readily apparent when you smile. But, cosmetic dentistry can provide a solution that will restore your confidence, and smile. The procedure is safe, takes no more time then installing a dental crown, and is a permanent procedure. Those who’ve had the procedure have rated it as an excellent solution for tooth loss.

The cosmetic procedure we are talking about is dental implants. What is a dental implant? Dental implants are permanent replacements for lost, removed, or damaged teeth. Unlike a crown that fits over a tooth, or a dental bridge that sits on the gum, dental implants are permanently fixed to the jaw. They feel and function much like your other natural teeth. With the development of advanced materials it is difficult to detect the difference between a dental implant, and a natural tooth.

When dental implants are inserted into the gum, they are anchored to the jaw bone. This gives the implant a tremendous amount of strength, and stability. To accomplish anchoring a titanium screw is inserted into the jaw bone, tightened, and allowed to heal in place. **End Summary** Topics: cosmetic dentistry dental implants dental crown dental bridge
About the Author:
For dental implants in the UK , visit a leading implant dentist in London Dr. Nick Fahey at Harley Street Dental Studio .

There are five main types of personal injury lawsuits. They are: bodily injury, economic injury, injury to reputation, intentional injury, and product liability. Keep in mind these are just the types of lawsuits, and not all the potential types of personal injury cases that can be filed in a court.

In order to better help you understand personal injury lawsuits, this article will give an example of injury to reputation, intentional injury, and product liability and why those are considered to be personal injury lawsuits as opposed to some other form of civil suit.

Slander and Libel (Injury to Reputation)

Slander and libel refer to the communication of a false statement that is implied or stated to be the truth that could cause your business, yourself personally, your group, or your product to suffer a negative reputation. In order for the statement to be considered slanderous or libel it must have been heard or witnessed by another person. **End Summary** Topics: personal injury lawsuits bodily injury economic injury injury to reputation intentional injury product liability slander libel lawyer
About the Author:
Personal injury law is designed to protect individuals and families from financial and physical injuries caused by negligence. Fort Walton Beach personal injury attorneys , wrongful death lawyers , auto accident lawyers have the knowledge and expertise to protect your legal rights and help resolve your case.

Common Injuries Experienced in a Motorcycle Accident in Florida

Motorcycle injuries tend to be more severe than the injuries suffered in most car accidents. Recent statistics have shown that eighty percent of all motorcycle accidents result in a traumatic injury or death, while only twenty percent of accidents that involve cars end the same way. Some of the most common types of injuries as a result of a motorcycle accident are discussed in this article.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

When most people hear the term, “post traumatic stress disorder” they immediately think of veterans of wars. However, victims of motorcycle accidents can and do often experience this disorder.

People who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder may have a hard time sleeping, or may relive the motorcycle accident over and over in their minds throughout the day. Treating post traumatic stress disorder is possible, and often very successful, but many insurance companies do not cover this type of treatment.

If you have been involved in a motorcycle accident and believe you may be suffering from this disorder, you should contact your attorney as you may be eligible to receive damages and compensation for treatment for this injury. **End Summary** Topics: motorcycle accident personal injury attorney lawsuit mental trauma head injury broken bones spinal cord injury post traumatic stress disorder
About the Author:
Personal injury laws can be difficult to navigate without the assistance of a lawyer. Pensacola motorcycle accident attorneys , auto accident lawyers , and personal injury attorneys can help victims receive the compensation they need in order to recover both physically and financially from an accident.

TMJ Disorders - General Dentistry and Oral Health Information for Patients

TMJ disorders affect the lower jaw hinge which is located just below the ear. The causes of TMJ can be attributed to the joint, surrounding muscles, or problems with the teeth. If an injury has damaged the joint, or if the muscles that the joint depends on for proper functioning have been damaged, then symptoms of TMJ may be experienced. Misaligned, impacted, or damaged teeth can also affect the lower jaw joint and produce TMJ symptoms.

The most common symptom of TMJ disorders is the pain associate with biting down. A dentist in the attempt to diagnose the disorder will use a bite test to measure the amount of pain experienced when clenching the jaw. If pain is experienced during the bite test it will unmistakably localize in the lower jaw, hinge area. Most TMJ disorders can be diagnosed preliminarily from the results of a bite or clench test.

A major cause of TMJ disorders is the misalignment of the jaw. Sufferers of TMJ disorders will often experience a clicking, or popping of the lower jaw when chewing, or opening and closing of the mouth. **End Summary** Topics: tmj disorders damaged teeth dentist jaw alignment dental work
About the Author:
Considering TMJ treatment ?
Information on Lap Band Surgery - What any Prospective Patient Should Know

If you are thinking of having weight loss surgery, you should know that the Lap Band surgery is one of the safest there is. This procedure is done laparoscopically, which will reduce recovery time, as well as cut down on scarring. The Lap Band surgery is also completely reversible, it is meant to be permanent, but reversible if needed.

A Lap Band is a band with a silicone balloon running along the inside of the band. This band is placed approximately one inch below the esophagus, around the top of the stomach. This balloon is attached to a port which is surgically implanted in the abdomen, usually sewn to the muscle wall. When the doctor injects saline into the port, it travels through a tube, into the silicone balloon, which then tightens the opening to the stomach, making it difficult to eat large amounts of food at once.

Sometimes, the surgeon will inject saline into the band while you are still in surgery, so that once you have healed you already have saline in place. This way, you won’t have to have too many fills to get you to the perfect amount of restriction for you. **End Summary** Topics: lap band weight loss surgery lose weight gastric bypass
About the Author:
If you have tried various types of diet and exercise, but have still been unsuccessful in your weight loss, perhaps weight loss surgery is right for you.
Should you Rely Solely on the Body Mass Index, or BMI, for Obesity Determination?

When you are considering the possibility that you are overweight, the first thing you will need to do is to calculate your body mass index, or BMI. Your BMI is determined by dividing your weight by height, squared, and then multiplying that number by 703. While this is complicated equation, there are many BMI calculators available online to help you determine your body mass index.

Generally, if your body mass index is above 25, you will be considered overweight. There are pros and cons to this system however. Consider the body builder who is 6’2”, and weighs 250 pounds. Although he has nearly no body fat, his Body Mass Index is going to be 32.1, indicating that he is not just overweight but obese. This is clearly not the case, however because he used the BMI formula, as his only form of measurement, he is now classified in the obese category.

When using the Body Mass Index formula as an indicator of obesity, you will need to also keep in mind your overall amount of body fat. **End Summary** Topics: body mass index bmi overweight obese weight loss obesity
About the Author:
Not everyone is the perfect weight loss surgery candidate.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - Cataracts and Surgery for Cataracts

Cataracts are one of the most common causes of vision loss, particularly in older adults. This common eye issue is easily treatable through cataract surgery. Generally, this elective procedure is performed once the cataracts have progressed to the point where they interfere with vision or daily activities. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions concerning cataracts and cataract surgery.

What are cataracts?

Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye develops a cloudy appearance. They usually start small, becoming gradually larger and more opaque. Eventually, they will interfere with vision. Untreated cataracts can cause vision to deteriorate to the point of legal blindness.

What causes cataracts?

Many cataracts are age-related. In fact, nearly every adult over 75 will develop cataracts. There is no guaranteed way to avoid cataracts. Cataracts can also be caused by exposure to UV rays, diabetes, eye trauma, and many other conditions.

How are cataracts removed?

The only way to remove cataracts is through surgery in which the natural lens of the eye is removed. It is then replaced with an artificial plastic or silicone lens, known as an intraocular lens of IOL. **End Summary** Topics: cataracts cataract surgery frequently asked questions intraocular lens iol
About the Author:
As people age, they are at a higher risk of developing eye disorders such as presbyopia, cataracts, and glaucoma.
How is LASIK Eye Surgery Done? The Basics of Laser Refractive Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is a procedure involving the use of lasers to correct vision problems. This procedure offers the exciting possibility of creating perfect or near-perfect vision, reducing or even eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. It can be used to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism. These eye issues, known as refractive errors, are caused by the cornea, which is where light enters the eye. If the cornea is imperfectly shaped, the light rays will bend, causing blurred vision.

LASIK is one of the most popular forms of laser eye surgery. What makes it different from the other types of eye surgery is the way that the cornea of the eye is accessed by the surgeon. LASIK itself means laser assisted in situ keratomileusis. This describes the creation of a flap in the corner of the eye, which is done after your eye has been numbed with special eye drops.

The surgeon is able to lift up this flap to access the cornea underneath, which is then reshaped with the use of a computer-assisted laser beam. **End Summary** Topics: lasik laser eye surgery laser assisted in situ keratomileusis refractive surgery laser vision correction ablative laser astigmatism nearsighted
About the Author:
An Austin LASIK surgeon can employ custom LASIK using the CustomCornea or CustomVue systems, or perform PRK, CK, or Epi-LASIK to improve your vision.
Who can file a wrongful death lawsuit? - Legal Matters and Issues

The death of a loved one is always painful, but it is particularly traumatic when the death was due to another person’s actions or negligence. Whether the death occurred because of a work-related accident, car accident, or other cause, if someone was at fault for the death of your loved one you may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

State laws

All states have laws regarding wrongful death and in every state the surviving spouse and children of the person who died can file a wrongful death lawsuit. Because the law varies from state to state not everyone who knew or was related to the deceased is eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

In some states minors will be appointed a legal guardian to represent their interests in this type of lawsuit. Distant relatives and legal dependants are allowed to file a wrongful death lawsuit in certain states. An example of a distant relative would be grandparents. Sometimes the parents or siblings of the deceased may be eligible to file a lawsuit for wrongful death. **End Summary** Topics: wrongful death attorney lawsuit car accident legal dependants
About the Author:
Consult with a Fresno wrongful death attorney , personal injury attorney , or auto accident attorney if you have been injured in an accident or harmed as a result of negligence or malpractice.
A resident is certainly able to file on his or her own behalf, but the resident has to be mentally sound and able to testify. In most cases, nursing home lawsuits are filed by the family of the resident. A case could be filed by someone who has a close, personal interest.

Common Reasons for a Nursing Home Lawsuit

You may want to consider filing a lawsuit about nursing home abuse if you know that the care of an elderly parent has been inadequate because of any of the following reasons.

Issues related to quality of care: This includes the development of bedsores, which means that the nursing home resident is left in the same position too long, or not receiving an adequate amount of food and water.

Issues related to physical safety: This includes falls, fractures, improperly used physical restraints, or inadequate supervision.

Criminal issues: This includes physical abuse such as rape or assault.

Malpractice: This may not rise to the level of a fatal mistake, but would include misdiagnosis, the absence of a diagnosis, prescription mistakes, and other medical blunders.

Wrongful death: This can occur because someone does not receive adequate medical care, or because of fatal mistakes. **End Summary** Topics: nursing home abuse lawsuits quality of care physical safety malpractice wrongful death
About the Author:
Fresno nursing home abuse attorneys , personal injury attorneys , and product liability lawyers can provide legal assistance for cases ranging from accidents to malpractice.
BOTOX® Injections: A Less Invasive Route to Facial Rejuvenation

As we age, our body shows it. This is often due to the elasticity in our skin as it becomes looser. As the elasticity becomes worse, the skin starts to droop and we start to look older. This is why many people have facelifts or other cosmetic procedures performed. BOTOX® Cosmetic, however, is a way to improve the appearance of the skin without having to go through a painful cosmetic procedure.

Believe it or not, a BOTOX® injection is actually a toxin that is produced by a bacterium that is known as clostridium botulinum. If it is found in large amounts, this bacterium can cause botulism, which is not something that any patient would want to have to deal with. When it is diluted, however, and used in small amounts, it can create a controlled weakening of the muscles. It works by blocking the signals that come from the nerves that go to the muscles. When you have a BOTOX® injection in a muscle, that muscle is no longer able to contract. This means that the wrinkles are able to soften and to relax, making you have a younger appearance almost instantly. **End Summary** Topics: botox injection frown lines cosmetic surgery
About the Author:
There are a variety of plastic surgery procedures and non-surgical treatments available to improve your appearance.
Legal Matters in the News: High-Profile White Collar Cases

White-collar crime is not a new phenomenon. However, because of several high-profile cases that have been scrutinized by the press over the past two decades, they have drawn more attention. During difficult economic times, cases involving high-profile figures such as Bernie Madoff, Sir Allen Stanford, Kenneth Lay, and Michael Milken seem to incite the public’s anger. Even though white-collar crimes are generally not violent in nature, the idea that someone “cheated” another out of their hard-earned money does not sit well with the majority of Americans.

That is particularly true of Bernie Madoff, convicted of operating an elaborate multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme. A Ponzi scheme is a type of financial investment fraud that offers an investment product and a too-good-to-be-true short-term return that similar legitimate products cannot guarantee in order to lure new investors. Unfortunately, those high returns are not real. Instead of seeing actual profits, investors are being paid from monies generated by new investors. It could go on forever, but the larger a Ponzi scheme grows, the more new money is needed in order to pay existing investors and it can become difficult to maintain. **End Summary** Topics: high profile white collar crimes bernie madoff sir allen stanford kenneth lay michael milken al capone wesley snipes tax evasion ponzi pyram
About the Author:
A criminal defense lawyer who is experienced with white collar crimes can help you defend your rights if you are charged with this type of activity.
Advice, Tips, and Information on Finding a Criminal Defense Attorney

When charged with a crime, finding an experienced criminal defense attorney becomes a priority. On a positive note, you will likely have a large selection of attorneys from which to choose. However, that does not necessarily make the task of finding a good attorney any easier. As the potential stakes are high (possible jail time, large fines, etc.), simply opening the yellow pages and calling the first attorney whose advertisement draws your eyes is not the way to do it.

Instead, you will need to do a little research. You need to find a lawyer that is: experienced in handling the type of charges you are facing, successful in achieving the best possible outcome, committed to making your case a priority, and effective in communicating with you as well as the court.

Personal referrals are always a good place to start. If someone you know faced a similar charge, ask them what attorney they used and if they were happy with how their case was handled. Other lawyers are a good resource as well. Even if they do not practice in that particular area of law, they can often recommend someone that does. **End Summary** Topics: criminal defense attorney lawyer personal referrals state bar association lawyer referral services
About the Author:
An experienced criminal defense attorney can help you understand your rights if you are facing drug offense charges, assualt charges, or other criminal charges.

White Collar Crime Accusations Can Have Serious, Long-term Consequences

White-collar crime can be quite serious, and some are hard-pressed to define what a white-collar crime entails. Compiled below are a few of the more frequently asked questions many people have about white-collar crime.

What is white-collar crime?
White-collar crime refers collectively to a wide variety of frauds committed by business professionals and government officials. White-collar crimes are usually non-violent in nature. They are far more subtle and often involve some type of deception.

What are some examples of these types of crimes?
This list is rather lengthy, but the most familiar include bribery, insider trading, embezzlement, fraud, corruption, identity theft, money laundering, tax evasion, and forgery.

Do these crimes fall under state or federal jurisdiction?
White-collar crimes can fall under state or federal jurisdiction, depending on the nature of the crime. However, because these types of crimes are often complex and extend beyond any particular state’s borders, the federal government will often take the lead in prosecuting.

Are white-collar crimes handled any differently than other crimes?
A crime is a crime, regardless if it is classified as a white-collar crime or not. **End Summary** Topics: white-collar crime frequently asked questions bribery bankruptcy insider trading embezzlement fraud identity theft money laundering forgery
About the Author:
Experienced white collar criminal attorneys can help if you are accused of this type of crime.
Drug Possession Lawsuits: Review Common Questions and Concerns

Drug possession laws can prove to be quite complex, which is why many people have questions about the sentencing and penalty process in such cases. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about drug possession cases.

What are drug possession penalties?
Drug possession penalties vary according to whether a federal or state court hands down the sentence. Federal penalties can be much more severe compared to those imposed by state courts. Other variances at play are if it is a first or repeat offense, the character of the accused, and whether he or she is considered a threat to society. In jurisdictions where mandatory minimum sentences are in effect, judges must set sentences in accordance with the pre-ordained incarceration periods. Drug courts for non-violent offenders offer treatment options with reduced or discharged imprisonment sentences.

What are drug trafficking penalties?
Federal drug trafficking laws have onerous penalties that include both jail and fines. The amount of jail time depends on whether it is a first or second offense. The same holds true for fines. Jail time and fines are also contingent on the amount of drugs involved. **End Summary** Topics: drug possession frequently asked questions penalties trafficking sentences state enhanced truth in sentencing
About the Author:
Depending on the circumstances of your crime, a drug offense charge may be classified as either a misdemeanor or a felony.
Drug Possession Lawsuits: Understanding The Controlled Substances Act

Possession of drugs is a serious crime. Federal and state laws have been enacted to prevent use of illegal drugs and drug-related crimes that outflow from drug manufacturing and trafficking.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration lists the following drugs as included in the Federal Controlled Substances Act: cocaine, heroin, marijuana, MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy), LSD, hydrocodone, inhalants, methamphetamine, OxyContin and steroids.

In 2008, almost 26,500 Drug Enforcement Administration drug possession arrests were made. During this same calendar year, 49,823.3 kilograms of cocaine, 598.6 kilograms of heroin, 660,969.2 kilograms of marijuana, 1,540.4 kilograms of methamphetamine and 9,199,693 hallucinogens dosage units were seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Administration reported discovery of 6,738 clandestine methamphetamine labs in 2008, an increase of 800 laboratories over 2007. Approximately 1.7 million arrests were made nationwide by combined federal, state and local law enforcement officials for drug abuse violations in 2008.

The U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, Office of Diversion Control, maintains a list of physicians who have been investigated, arrested and prosecuted for prescribing controlled substances outside of accepted medical treatment principles. **End Summary** Topics: drugs controlled substances act drug enforcement administration schedule abuse dependence
About the Author:
Drug offense lawyers can help protect your rights if you are charged with a drug offense.
