What's the true goal of a family vacation? Its an escape from the everyday, some "quality time" and maybe a little bonding, right? So is lying next to a pool really gonna cut it? How about getting the gang involved in something new or challenging, maybe even a bit intimidating? Somewhere in between the Bahamas and Everest, lies a great mountain getaway that combines luxury and outdoor recreation. Steamboat Springs, Colorado is that somewhere.

Steamboat is home to many small companies offering all types of outdoor activities. Each of the activities are unique yet all offer their participants exposure to the magic of the Rocky Mountain wilderness. Options range from the mild and scenic to adrenaline stirring adventures. Its not tough to find an activity for a group of mixed ages to enjoy.

Steamboat Springs is blessed with four great rivers weaving through the area, making whitewater sports highly accessible to locals and visitors alike. Kayaking and rafting can practiced privately (without a permit) or with a commercially permitted business. The best months of the year for whitewater are May, June, July and August. **End Summary** Topics: steamboat springs colorado vacation to steamboat steamboat fly fishing summer in steamboat summer vacation colorado river in steamboat rafting in stea
About the Author:
Steamboat Vacations is a local company that specializes in connecting travelers with amazing Outdoor Activities and Tours in Steamboat Springs.
The Best Place To Snowmobile in Colorado

Ski Town USA is getting rowdy. In Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the approaching ski season is in the air. Just driving down the main drag, you can see and feel the difference. Gear swaps and sales, classes at the rec center specifically designed to get your skiing legs back, and my personal favorite- the roller-blade inspired "roller-skis" that dedicated souls all over town are using to cruise up and down the cement slopes. There is no denying it- this is a ski town. But there's another snow sport that has a strong and growing presence in Steamboat. It's one that may not be noticed as you pass through. In garages all over town tune-ups and repairs are being performed, snowmobiles are being prepped. Snowmobiling has been gaining momentum as one of the area's most popular winter activities. And slednecks, (defined by the Urban Dictionary as "a person from a mountain state that tears it up on a snowmobile") are enthusiastic about the promise of another epic season here in northwest Colorado. Skiers and snowmobilers alike await the snow.

A central reason for the prevelance of snowmobiling in this area is Rabbit Ears Pass, in the Routt National Forest. **End Summary** Topics: steamboat springs snowmobiling steamboat snowmobiling steamboat snowmobile tours snowmobiling in colorado Rabbit Ears Pass Rabbit Ears Pass Snowm
About the Author:
Claire Chappell spent years as a professional guide in sports such as snowmobiling and whitewater rafting, and now helps visitors plan sensational vacations to the Rocky Mountains.
Steamboat Springs Has a Wealth of Winter Activities

In northwest Colorado lies a small mountain town with big opportunities for outdoor adventure. Steamboat Springs was originally a ranching community, and it maintains that old-west feel. Locals are friendly and the snow is light and abundant. In the 07/08 ski season, almost 500 inches of snow fell on the mountains of Steamboat. Steamboat Ski Resort is known for its plentiful tree-skiing through its endless Aspen glades. There is 3,000 acres of terrain for skiers of all ability levels.

Steamboat has been appropriately nicknamed "Ski town U.S.A", but if you find yourself here for a week in the winter, don't stick to the slopes. Steamboat has many other outdoor adventure opportunities. Visitors can try a new sport and take advantage of this winter-wonderland. Activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, horseback riding, sleigh rides, tubing and snowcat skiing in the backcountry. After participating in one of these adventures, visitors can utilize another of Steamboat's delightful attributes...its secluded mountain hot springs.

Snowmobiling has become a favorite pastime in Steamboat Springs. Riders come from far and wide to play in this area. **End Summary** Topics: steamboat vacation steamboat vacations steamboat ski vacation steamboat lodging steamboat snowmobiling steamboat horseback riding steamboat acti
About the Author:
Claire Chappell spent years as a professional guide in winter & summer adventure sports.
